Duck Stab/Buster & Glen
The ResidentsWOW WE FOUND THE WORST ALBUM this album is fucking weird. also two hours long. This stressed me out to listen to. If I could give less than one star, I would
WOW WE FOUND THE WORST ALBUM this album is fucking weird. also two hours long. This stressed me out to listen to. If I could give less than one star, I would
I always heard people talk about The Smiths with reverence and after we got our first Smiths album, I was like eh I don’t get it. We just got the wrong one first, this album was really good
I'll be brave and say that this is a good album
Listened to this late but I kind of liked it more than I expected
Very good album, reminds me of Veronica Mars and middle school which is fun
Super not for me. Has its highlights but otherwise a genre I don’t care for
Instrumentals are cool and vibes are good but this album is fine
This was not good lol. Mostly just noise
Too reminiscent of Daft Punk for my taste (of which I hate per Grant)
Great album, classic songs. Not my go to music but solid songs
Not as good as Oasis but definitely the vibes and influences are there
It’s giving U2 Achtung Baby which I don’t like. Not my vibe
I liked this one! Vocals and instrumental was fun with the flute and the saxophone
Really enjoyable! No skips album reminiscent of childhood
Surprisingly really enjoyed. Great vocals and solid instrumentation
This felt like a retread of Bowie. Recognizable melodies and themes but nothing super unique
I actually liked this album a lot! Kind of reminded me of Muse. Might not come back to very often but I enjoyed it
Familiar sounds from Joni! The album was pleasant to listen to but not my favorite
I really liked this album. I felt Elliott's influence for current music that I enjoy and it feels like a time of tv and movie soundtracking
Oh I love this. The drama of the rock opera but also incredibly listenable music. So good
I really liked this album. Odd mix of covers that felt like only songs that I listen to but I was a fan
Reminded me of The Wallflowers in a way but also kind of boring
Once you get over the shock of crassness, it’s a great album. Minimal notes other than I felt verbally assaulted
Great vocals, great songs
Very enjoyable listen. Great for vibes
WHOMP this was a dull album outside of Son of Preacher Man
Grant’s favorite genre of hair band. Recognizable songs that I liked some but otherwise don’t love this kind of music
Loveeeee Annie Lennox. New wavey vibes are fun but felt a bit repetitive
I really liked this one! Never heard of them but I enjoyed the album and artist radio on Spotify
Pretty average Prince album. Super long with none of the big hits
Instrumentals were great! A fun listen of a genre I don’t often listen to
Fun reggae album! I liked the drums and beats
Loved this one! Thought that it was a very fun mix of songs
I love this album, such beautiful songwriting and iconic sound that influenced a lot of other music and media that I enjoy
So so good. Easily no skips on this album.
Meh not for me. I actively thought that it sounded like noose
Very moody. Not what I was necessarily expecting going into it. Lyrics and instrumentals were good
I do love some overly earnest sounding arena rock. Not as good as others examples of it. Perhaps a bad sign that The Cars Just What I Needed came on after and was 100% better. Still fun though
Very fun album. Felt like a lot of covers that I enjoyed but also a lot Beatles classics. Definitely one that I would revisit
To be honest it reminded me of ASMR get focused music playlists and the music is fairly undistinguishable from one song to the next. Except the House theme
What a fun blast from the past. Of course, the first three songs are the stars of the album and the rest is definitely filler for this album but I don’t care, I had fun
It’s not good fight me
Well I enjoyed it. I thought that it was nice music of the time
Eminem improperly prepared me for Moby. I actually quite liked this. More like chill focus music than techno that I thought
I’d give this a solid 3. Pleasant to listen to but nothing that stuck with me
Chill background music. Tbh didn’t notice it while doing other things around the house. Probably wouldn’t seek it out but would be surprised if this artist had come up in my sleep music category before
Oh this is fun. Familiar voice with mostly unfamiliar songs to me but you can hear the exuberance of the performance though the recording. Not something that I might seek out all the time but enjoyable nonetheless
Not my favorite. Kept thinking that this was used on Veronica Mars at some point because it reminded me of the vibe of the soundtrack to that.
Sultry spy movie sounding tones. This all reminded me of early 2000s movies and I enjoyed it
This is objectively a good album. It doesn’t hit for me quite as much as it seems others but this wasn’t necessary the music that I grew up on so I don’t have that background. The lack of annunciation really got me because I don’t know what he’s saying most of the time but it’s an album that I would put on again
Another one of this genre??? I liked it well enough
A good debut of Tom Petty and his Heartbreakers. American Girl really cemented the follow up albums from this.
Loved this one! First off so many hits, Proud Mary, Born on the Bayou, I mean cmon. And then it’s only roughly a half hour. Should probably give it a five but I’m giving it a four because I know that there will be better CCR to come
Solid 3 album. Definitely feel the grunge vibe and a better representation than some that we have had come up in here. I like
I liked this as far as background listening while doing tasks (Grant seems to feel the same way though I wrote this before reading his review)
Very good album for The Rolling Stones. Gimme Shelter is such a great rock song
I feel like I could’ve died without hearing this album
Very good listenable album. Fun change from mostly 90s music
Perhaps not the most exciting but quite pleasant and I love Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard. A surprise for me to learn that this was #984 out of the original 1000 when I know of at least 16 albums from our project that are worse than it
WOW WE FOUND THE WORST ALBUM this album is fucking weird. also two hours long. This stressed me out to listen to. If I could give less than one star, I would
Really liked this one! I had listened to this one before from a recommendation from Pop Culture Happy hour and really enjoyed the relisten. Great features
Loved this album! A look at Queen music that I had never heard before but could see all the pathways that led to the music that I know and love
An enjoyable reggae experience
An enjoyable listen but not the kind that will cause me to come back
More enjoyable that I had expected it would be (I was worried about nooo not another random 90s rock adjacent album) but still likely not to return
Sounded a lot like the Superbad soundtrack to me which I liked
I can't say that I liked this very much...
I really liked this one! Unexpected considering the genre but just a really cool vibe
This album had a slight Irish feel to it which was fun
I feel like this is where The Who most sounds like the Beatles in a good album but not a great album
Core memories from childhood of my dad warbling Moondance off key. I think that this album is great straight through. Do I support Van Morrison? No. Have to separate the art and the artist
This was an interesting album that I enjoyed more than I usually would a two hour album
Enjoyable album by a band that I have ignored for years
This album was fine
This was a cool album, I enjoyed the beats
An excellent album from top to bottom for a truly talented artist.
Not something that I loved but was listenable
Wow I did not enjoy this but it is a better example of noise rock than other ones we’ve listened to
Most of these songs blended together for me. Don’t necessarily understand the hipster love this group has
Solid Elton John hits. Did NOT know that Indian Sunset is also used in Ghetto Gospel by Tupac. I think that it works better in that song lol
Knew more of these songs than I gave myself credit for. Thought I just didn’t know any Iggy Pop by the unforgettable What Happens in Vegas commercials featured Lust For Life
A great album. Awesome hits and just the feeling of a gone too soon artist
I think that I must’ve listened to this album more than I thought as a kid because most of it came back to me while listening. Bridge Over Troubled Water has a very annoying theater kid association to me but I love it
I always think of The Martian when Starman comes on and it is a highlight to me on the album. I think that I don't love David Bowie music, it kind of all sounds the same, which vocally is not as fun, but instrumentally is nice.
Not really my vibe for an album but it was nice to hear more music by Deep Purple than Smoke on the Water
This was a cool album. In the last song, I asked the question of is that a theremin which is fun. Listened to at the airport on an early Monday morning
I liked this album quite a bit, I thought it had some nice covers and enjoyed Willie's voice
I enjoyed this album
I don’t know that I’d classify this in best albums but I enjoyed it
I always heard people talk about The Smiths with reverence and after we got our first Smiths album, I was like eh I don’t get it. We just got the wrong one first, this album was really good
A nice look at early hip hop but it all sounded the same. Stick to SVU
When I waited in line on Ticketmaster in February 2020, I wouldn't have ever thought that I would have funny tales about my experience with Rages Against the Machines but wow, I really like this album and I really like them. I saw most if not all of these songs live and there really is such an electricity that I didn't expect
Very 80s, I liked a song or two but I don't think I'll be returning
Quite cool to listen to pre-Saturday Night Fever Bee Gees but not my favorite
I liked this album, I spent a lot of time trying to think of why they sounded so familiar and Grant said the song America and it allllll clicked
Very cool standards album. Great voice and an easy listen
I liked this album a lot. It definitely sounded more commercially appealing and I understand how it was successful in that
This album was pleasant. Very reminiscent of the Beatles and a fun read on why they weren’t allowed to tour in the United States
I have more of fond memories for the album than fondness for the album. Music really sounded the same throughout and was really one note
This mostly just sounded like noises but it was a pleasant car album
Not the best version of its genre but is fun
Fairly boring music that all sounded the same to me
Similar to other British pop of the time, unremarkable but listenable
This album is great with a lot of standouts and familiar music that was fun to listen to going up and back down Mt Etna
Not very exciting or interesting
I liked this, pleasant for afternoon drive. Vaguely sounded like Lenny Kravitz at points?
Childhood bias for this album but I love this music so much. I used to sing these songs as a kid with my parents
Could not get the voice of Nick’s sports song guy out of my head but I liked the tunes
Space and psychedelic. Probably didn’t need to be over two hours but it was a nice listen
Very nostalgic music for me (at least the stuff that I knew). Otherwise, a fun listen to other Missy Elliott songs that I didn’t know
This album sounds so much more modern that it is and so does the album art. Really liked this and it was fun to find out he’s Chef from South Park.
This album was fun! Don’t know how much I’ll return to it but an enjoyable listen
Great album of classics and fun songs from the Beatles. Not the most cohesive, but a fun mix of songs that I love. Grant finds When I’m 64 to be relatable today.
Forgot that I listened to this and then had a refresher. Not a good album
I enjoyed this album a lot more than I expected to. I thought that the composition was very fun
This album was very good. Amazing how fast their production was
Not as good as the other Iron Maiden album that we had but I liked it enough
My knowledge of The Byrds is Turn Turn Turn and to me, everything sounded like that song. Which isn’t the worst thing
Very enjoyable quick album
Paper Planes was probably the only MIA song I knew before this album and though I enjoy that song and that vibe, the rest of the album just sounded like a lot of the same and just not as good.
This is an excellent album wow. Just hit after hit
I’m so sorry to the Coldplay fans but I just found this so dull
I think that I like metal and not heavy metal, this was too much yelling for me
This was some fun Brazilian music. Made me want to dance along.
This album had some good vibes. ZZ Top just has fun music
Conveniently named album for how I felt about this album!!! Tbh daft punk are just not the robots for me but it was okay
I kept getting confused the this album was from sometime in the 70s/80s rather than 1995 because it was so New Wavey and not Blur/Oasis brit pop. Pleasant listening though
Oui oui, hoh hoh hoh. Very French and something different. Probably won't return but I had fun
I would say this album is fine. Heard a bunch of the songs on the other Deep Purple album so might’ve leant to some of the staleness for me
Killer Queen is one of my long time favorite songs so loved that representation. The rest was pleasant and fun
I grew up listening to this album a lot and honestly never realized just how long it is which may be the only mark against it that it could be shortened. But still incredible songs
Pleasant listen but very similar to most of the other Motown varietals on this list
Well we missed Cherub Rock in trivia so it shows how memorable I thought that album was after listening. Pretty unremarkable
This album was quite boring and dragged on too long
This album mostly sounded like knockoff of the Beatles. Not bad, just similar
I loved this album
This was a pleasant listen of a lesser represented genre on this list
Even though I always loved the song Lovefool, I never dug any deeper into the tunes of The Cardigans. I can mostly see why, nothing really remarkable but the singer has a good voice that translates to other songs. Sexy Iron Man was interesting
Even though I always loved the song Lovefool, I never dug any deeper into the tunes of The Cardigans. I can mostly see why, nothing really remarkable but the singer has a good voice that translates to other songs. Sexy Iron Man was interesting
I’ve liked the song Immigrant Song since the girl with the dragon tattoo movie which does a cool cover of it. We woke to this album on the day that we were supposed to go to Iceland where ironically, the song was written. Great composition but not the best of Led Zeppelin
Not the biggest jazz fan most of the time but I liked having this as background while playing fetch with Alfie at the park.
Kate Bush paved the way to be a 15 year old musical genius. I had really only heard Running Up That Hill when it was on Stranger Things but listening to this whole album was a cooler experience than I had initially thought
I enjoyed the start of this with a more traditional classic piece and then followed up with the more modern interpretations of the rest. I dug it
So many hits from the 90s that I love and additionally some other very interesting almost spoken word tracks that were deeper than anything I expected from the singer of Soak Up the Sun
A great horny album but devastating back story. Learned a lot about Marvin Gaye on my flight
Wake Up has definitely been in commercials before. Reminds me a lot of Bleachers but perhaps not as good.
I really thought that the song Epic came out in like 1994 because it just feels of that time. We also missed that song during trivia the other week so I am now less likely to forget it. However, I did not enjoy this album lol
Honestly couldn’t help but think every song sounded the same but I love Sabotage and Flute Loop
Beautiful voice beautiful gowns. There are a few lulls on the album but overall an excellent listen
Woo hoo (this album is overrrr) woo hoo (I don’t have to listen to blurr). This album was fine and rather uneventful
Little screamy for me. Reminds me of Coheed and Cambria and tunes of that genre so I like that aspect but wow did this stress me out while working
an enjoyable listen, love Clint Eastwood
I could tell by the name of the band that this would be metal or screaming and I was correct on that assessment. Not enjoyable
Really enjoyed all of the references that go back to this album which was very cool and weirdly coded for Grant and me. A really pleasant listen though. I actively said while listening that I never would consider myself a fan of the genre but I enjoyed listening to it a lot
It is funny to me that I don’t really think that I’ve ever listened to that much Janelle Monae music. I associate her so much more with acting so music from her has been a blind spot. However, after listening, I don’t think that my thoughts behind that weren’t true. This album had some fun spots but otherwise was an uneventful listen
Wow this was long. Nice enough as background but not super resonant with me
I couldn’t tell if these songs were a million years long or just that repetitive. Very much feels like music that may have been in The Matrix or movies of that time period.
Honestly often forget about this variety of 90s trancey club music. Not my favorite but decent as background noise. Very randomly and coincidentally I had heard the song Missing by Everything But the Girl on the radio and I swear it’s one of those songs that I know deep down because it was on so many CD infomercials growing up and I still will mess it up if I hear it in the wild
I really enjoyed this album. Very pleasant listening. Five stars
Honestly a very good album with some standouts
This album was really boring lol, didn’t particularly enjoy but I see the merit for the lyrics to jack off to
Fun global music but nothing that stands out to me
Eh probably will not revisit but it was fine
Nice listening for the evening. Nothing ground breaking but pleasant
Excellent example of the genre and great hits to boot. I enjoyed this while wandering the Charlotte airport
Weirdly I kind of liked this album
Okay I like southern man but otherwise, why did we let this man become a solo artist? I think that the songs would be better not sung by him
Enjoyable album to listen to around California. Fun and familiar songs but outside of the singles, not the greatest songs
Reminded me of romantic comedies and movies from the early 2000s where these songs were probably featured
I liked this album as far as easy listening. I liked his other album better though
Had to laugh that shortly after I said that I really liked this album, I read the Wikipedia where it said the following- ‘it was largely ignored or lambasted by critics and was a commercial failure’.
Ugh the prom king rock. I did not enjoy this album as a whole. I liked the singles aka the ones society pushed on me but everything else is dribble.
I liked this overall as a sound. I always find it interesting to listen to Elvis Costello because I never think the music makes sense for when it is coming out (1977).
This album made me fire off my hot take of not really liking Bruce Springsteen. I understand my minority take but most of the time I can’t really understand what he’s singing. Overall though, listenable album but outside the singles, I find the music repetitive
Very pleasant listening. Not sure that any of these songs besides Maybe I'm Amazed are super great but I had fun
Pleasant listening and I liked it well enough.
Outside of Stand and Orange Crush, I didn’t really know much of the other songs but I could see where it was building from here with the mandolin that eventually leads to Losing My Religion that I love
A great album that is basically the magnum opus of what Jack Antonoff can do. Truly not a bad song on the album and vibes that are nearly unmatched
Eh I can’t say that I am a fan of this album. As said in an earlier Bowie, I don’t think that I am a huge Bowie person and this album just seemed superfluous and added just because it’s Bowie.
At first I thought that this sounded like an Irish Bruce Springsteen cover band, but it went downhill from there
Truly a near perfect album. Bangers left and right
Nostalgic album that reminds me of the 90s but not super my vibe
Fun upbeat album. Not always the biggest fan of a live album but I had a good time
Yeah it’s really good
This was a fun album. Didn’t know that Timbaland was producing at this time but I can see the influences
Enjoyable psychedelia rock. I, for whatever reason, thought Sunshine of Your Love was a different song so interesting to me
Fun beats that I would come back to listen to again
A fun album that provides a good level of nostalgia for college years
A lot of songs that I liked with the element of a live album
I had a lot of fun with this one. I don’t consider myself to be vey knowledgeable of BB King’s music but I liked it all while we put up Christmas decorations
Feels very influenced by Joan Jett in a fun way. Grant made reference to the singer sounding like the singer from Rush which also felt similar sounding
Can’t say that I enjoyed. It was pretty standard early 2000s alt that is not really my jam
Fairly standard Bob Dylan. Everything besides Mr Tamborine Man sounded very similar
As I told Grant many times, I have done a deep dive on Walk of Life earlier because I could not remember the name of it for the longest time. Otherwise, a very enjoyable album!
I think that I’ve always had the opinion that Radiohead was kind of boring. Like their biggest song is Creep which is pretty boring. I kind of liked it though
Vibey, reminded me a lot of The xx. Nice for beach listening as we did
The entire time, we said that this is a Nick Lupinetti album. It was quite fun and quite German. Not my favorite type of music but I had a good time listening to it on the beach
Honestly could not distinguish any of the songs from one another
A classic album with great songs and fun
Fun and frothy 80s. Grant made a comment that it sounded like George Michael was trying to do Prince which I think is a fair assessment but I had a lot of fun
I'm back to the stance of The Smiths not being my vibe and I don't have a great understanding why so many people revere them
Another album that I listened to a lot as a kid. Everything still holds up to me except the song Almost Cut My Hair which now feels like a song by the sports guy
I enjoyed this album, The Doors are very much aligned with music that I enjoy so always open. Grant and I laughed when realizing that this album was recorded in the bathroom of the hot dog shop we went to in Los Angeles.
Very pleasant spa music. Would be great for a bath
Funny coincidence in the radio post album that they sang All the Young Dudes when there was a song called Hymn for the Dudes on the album. Otherwise, I found this album to be an enjoyable listen while not being super interesting
Truly an excellent album. No skips listening (though I don’t love Bennie and the Jett’s)
I just still don't get Leonard Cohen...
A little whiny but still pretty good
Reminded me a lot of my brother in law. I think as a music, it takes itself very seriously but overall pleasant to listen to
