some solid songs. too deep in association with ex
some good. most just okay
didn't like the lyrics but the music is a vibe
a very cool bridge between their earlier rock/alt sound and what evolved into the masterpiece of Kid A
it's a banger. great for dancing, great for parties, great for dance parties!
pretty good. it's got a few of his #1s on it
I really like this. my french is rusty but I dig the beauty and theatricality of it
trip hop but not as good as Portishead
it's just okay. good but not spectacular
gonna be honest, I don't really like most Eminem. there's like 2 or 3 songs I like and none of them are on this album
great beat but not keen on the content
I actually really liked this. way different than what I usually listen to
never reaches the power and passion of Rumours. other than the song Tusk, it wasn't very memorable
love doo wop. so bouncy and dancy
I don't like Beck. it exemplifies 90s California rock along with Red Hot Chili Peppers. Where It's At is the standout
classic classic rock. has a few bangers and the rest are respectable
I like most of it if I don't listen to the lyrics too hard
hard to rate this one as it evokes specific feelings and basically defined the 90s. there's some things I like and some things I don't. if a partner put this album on while we were alone, I would consider it a red flag
I don't think I've ever listened to a Joy Division album all the way through but I really liked this one. it was a bit same-y but I liked it
I liked this even though I would call it eclectic. the samples, the lyrics, the pacing felt disjointed when I focused on each, but altogether each track was unique and interesting. not something I'm going to seek out, but I appreciate it
started off a little weak but it gets better. some solid songs too
nothing about this album appeals to me.
I actually like this. it's not terrible but there's nothing standout here either.
I don't have any context for this
I just don't like it. I know I know. It's like an amazing classic of hip hop. Iconic. Influencial. I just don't like listening to it. I like the song Fight For Your Right, but the rest just doesn't do it for me.
not really my thing but I actually enjoyed some things about it. the music was varied and interesting. I wouldn't listen to the album all the way through, but it was interesting for this project.
I enjoyed this a lot. There were many noises with a good beat. Solid
This has one of my favorite songs of all time on it: Audience with the Pope. Otherwise a solid album but not anyting super impressive.
This was just okay. Her distinct voice shines, but the songs aren't good. Her second album is magic.
I didn't enjoy this. I know that's a cop out review. The beat is great and dancey, but I can't give 2 shits about whatever he's rapping about. Also rap skits are universally cringe.
Pretty standard post-Beatles Brit rock pop. It does lean in to the more psychedelic sound, but I didn't hear anything that wow'd me.
This is a pretty solid album, and I think more would've gotten to hit status if it wasn't for the plagiarism controversy.
ZZ Top is so deeply connected to my ex husband for me that I genuinely cannot enjoy listening to them. I guess it's been enough time because I didn't HATE listening to this album, but I still wouldn't specifically seek it out.
I like Britpop. I like folk. I like electronica. It wasn't terrible, but I didn't really like this. This feels like something that people who listen to Ani DeFranco would like. I don't like Ani DeFranco.
I really like this. still hits just right and I like the deep nostalgia of it. not something I'll necessarily seek out but I like listening to it when I encounter it
not really my thing. not a huge fan of dad rock, and this is really indicative of that sound.
I've never heard of this band, so I was excited that this might be an album by a rock group lead by women bc of the cover but it was the 70s so it's just dude rock. This list greatly underrepresents women artists.
That's not really Roxy Music's fault though. I found this album to be mid. Nothing stood out to me, but it wasn't unpleasant either. The lyrics were a whiplash going from songs about religion to love songs to break up songs. It was exhausting in a way that didn't leave me satisfied. Also, I just generally want to leave religion out of my rock music.
One of the greatest albums of all time. I could (and did) listen to it on repeat.
Interesting that I got this the day after Brian Wilson passed away.
I liked this so much more than I was expecting to. A lot of it is different than the Beach Boys typical sound, and the subject matter is so progressive and deep. I'm familiar with Pet Sounds of course, but I think I like this more.
I don't hate this but I don't love it either. enjoyable to listen to but nothing quite grabs me
not like a standout but also not bad. nothing hit super hard but it wasn't unpleasant either. not sure it deserves a spot on this list but also I might be missing context
I thought I had the wrong album at first because it was so short. 2 songs at under 40 minutes. Apparently that's right though.
It was okay. Not really my thing.
love love love. music as a grounding experience. music to increase awareness of self.
I don't really like Rod Stewart. I think the music is interesting - a blues rock I hadn't really noticed before. But his voice sounds like what chewing on plastic wrap must feel like. The music is good and then bam uncomfortable.
This album has my favorite of his songs - Maggie May. Oh to be shacking up with a beautiful woman so intriguing that you want to cancel all other commitments and stay in bed.
I really hated the cloyingly slow rendition of Amazing Grace in the middle of the album. Music jump scare and a huge misstep.
I don't know how I feel about this. No one song stuck out. I like it more than the first Tom Waits album I listened to. But I don't think I would ever just listen to this album or any one song on it.
I hate Bob Dylan's voice and "singing." There are maybe a few songs I find okay, but I tend to like covers of his songs more than the originals. He's like if the Beatles weren't clever or wholesome. Or if Zeppelin wasn't cool. Or if the Stones weren't edgy. Okay music, okay lyrics, terrible voice. Too much harmonica.
By far the worst song is the degrading and tone deaf Just Like a Woman. Shut the fuck up man.
I mean, I knew who Willie Nelson was, knew his big hits, and love country/folk/American music. But this? It hit me how much I dismissed Willie Nelson.
These covers are unique but immediately recognizable. I think this has convinced me that he's a great musician. I'll listen to this again and again.
ah so smooth and dance-y. I don't know what the lyrics mean but it makes me want to dance!
Message in a Bottle is the standout. Every other song is very forgettable. At least it's short.
I liked this a LOT. Nothing I didn't like about it honestly. Perfect jazz album.
I was ready to give it 1 star and move on, but after the first song it's just...not terrible or anything. there's certainly a vibe to it. a sweaty, stinky, uncomfortable vibe that takes me back to like high school football games. it smells bad but it also smells American teenager rebellion so you know it smells our kind of bad.
I know they're from the UK so don't @ me.
I didn't really like this, to be honest. I mean it certainly has a sound, but it's not a sound I want to spend my time listening to. It's like jangly.
fantastic album. big talking heads fan and this has all the catchy weird beats and words I love from them
okay I like this a lot! Who-inspired in the best way possible. I don't know if I would seek it out, but maybe I will
I've always felt a bit meh on the Beastie Boys despite their seemingly universal regard. this album was super fun to listen to with a good beat, but I don't think I would seek it out specifically
not a Hendrix fan even though I know he's a rock god and all. I find his singing to be unique but monotonous. I know his playing is supposed to be important and interesting but it's just not something I want to listen to.
I like All Along the Watchtower.
literally never heard of the Waterboys before today, but I think they're great! I'm a big fan of folk rock so this hit with me. I gave it 3 stars because I feel like song-to-song the quality is inconsistent and the double disc album is waaay too long. they could've given us a tight 10-12 and it would've been much better. best song is We Will Not Be Lovers
this album feels inconsistent to me. I probably have expectations that EWF are all dance all the time, which I'm 100% here for (sad dancing is a thing!). but this album has a few dance songs and mostly not dance songs including one sermon/spoken word track that I skipped on my second listen.
I thought that I knew and like Ryan Adams, but after listening to this samey-boringness, it turns out that I only like the Ryan Adams album Easy Tiger. this album was so boring, I didn't favorite and couldn't even distinguish a single song even though I love country/folk rock and Americana music.
I went into this with an open mind despite the fact that my ex was super into the Dead and I pretty much always hated when she played them and associate them strongly with her.
but I was pleasantly surprised. I mean, I don't think it's good and I wouldn't intentionally seek out listening to this but they had some great moments and it was certainly a vibe. I could see how you would want to sit in the grass and trip at a show with this playing in the background
listening to this album bumped my anxiety up to 11. I can tell it's good. I don't know what it is, but I don't think I'd ever be willing to listen to this intentionally
I didn't enjoy this. I like sad, bleak music but this was kind of on another level bc it was sad, bleak music that wasn't nice to listen to
I liked it! I've never heard the album or artist before. it was a little same-y throughout, and I didn't think he was saying anything revolutionary but I was pleasantly surprised.
I didn't really enjoy this. the first few songs were nice and polished, but at some point it stops being music and starts being noise. it wasn't bad but I wouldn't seek it out
I've heard this album before and very strongly associate Van Halen with my ex-husband who was a big fan (mostly of Van Hagar). I don't like David Lee Roth or his voice, but the result being this album is classic. it is THE classic rock and is one of the original sounds of the time. it's entertaining to listen to and I usually don't turn it off when it comes on. however, I don't seek out listening to it and so for that reason, I give it a 3.
Best track: You Really Got Me
Worst track: Jamie's Cryin' and On Fire are tied for last place
I don't normally like love albums but this was spectacular. hilarious chatter, entertaining music, special guest June Carter. Johnny Cash had so much charisma
all in all, I really enjoyed this. I'm more familiar with later Belle & Sebastian but this is clearly the start of their later magic. I found it more inconsistent than their later stuff but still good.
Best track: She's Losing It
Worst track: Mary Jo
I really like this, but I'm struggling with how to rate it. like, it's entertaining to listen to and very cool indeed. musically delicious and satisfying
at the same time, would I ever seek this out as something to listen to? jazz rarely fits into my life so how I typically rate albums on here (how likely I am to relisten) doesn't work on this as well.
I landed on 4 stars because it's pretty much a 5 star album that I don't want to listen to
I did a presentation on CCR for a college music appreciation class as an example of southern rock (bc of their sound; I know they're from California). the day before my presentation was scheduled, I fell and hit my head resulting in a concussion. considering it was my very first semester at college, I went into my class the next day, concussed, and gave what probably was a very strange presentation that I remember none of (I was prepared tho). my prof graded me an A but told me that he would've rescheduled my presentation bc of the concussion.
I've loved CCR ever since and this album is no exception. perfect everything. an American, southern rock Beatles
I liked this well enough, but I seek out triphop and lofi so this is right up my alley. the vibe was good and dancey in that slow, flow way that I enjoy. I added 2 songs to my liked songs playlist so this gets 4 stars.
Best songs: Squares and Human Being
this is pure early grunge, but it's not interesting or satisfying to listen to it. there were some okay sounds but the songs were indistinguishable so I didn't have favorites
this is just okay. very same-y all the way through
nostalgia might be influencing me here, but I really enjoyed listening to this. so many hits I remember from the 90s. they were a monster then even though I've never listened to this full album before now. it's great though
every song is too much and not enough
I like this a lot. I like the music, the vibes, the flow. everything is pretty good, but I still consider it a 3 star album objectively. I do think the vocals could be more interesting and the lyrics are okay.
I bumped it up to 4 stars bc I am likely to listen to this again, even with it's flaws
hmm. got a Beach Boys album the day after Brian Wilson passed. got a Sabbath album the day after Ozzy passed. what is the universe saying to me?
I've never listened to a Sabbath album all at once and all the way through. perhaps that dates me. I can see why these are the guys though. everything is good.
I will say that Iron Man is overhyped and overplayed. also, the front half of the album is much better than the second half. still a classic. still a good time.
Elvis Costello is so popular and yet this was boring. lyrics were boring or insulting, music was boring or annoying, and I just didn't feel anything about these songs. there were maybe 2 songs that I wouldn't change if they came on
excellent album! so many great hits and the unknowns are solid
I like most of this. I don't know enough about funk to know how to talk about it but this is entertaining and I would listen to it again for sure
I love The Who but I feel like this live show as an album falls flat. probably was great in person
I have mixed feelings about this album. it's certainly an experience but it falls flat in a number of ways. it's like that kind of artist that doesn't really sing when they're performing but instead speaks musically. I don't have a lot of examples of that that I like.
there are few interesting and solid songs but everything is quite same-y. I like her cover of working class hero even though she is no such thing.
Best: Broken English and Why'd You Do It
at first, I was like "why is this guy's voice so familiar??" and then I remembered his most famous song Red Right Hand.
the name "Murder Ballads" is 100% accurate for this album. weird how incredibly accurate it is.
this album is most songs that I feel like are a great example of toxic masculinity. in a hating women way bit also in a like look at how cool I am way. which means I rate this very low.
shout out to a toxic bi-icon in Stagger Lee. I wish I liked it more.
weird but very enjoyable. it was a rollercoaster from good to bad and back again. overall positive feelings.
I LOVE DAVID BOWIE
a lot of this album is like if David Bowie was doing his Talking Heads impression. and since I love both David Bowie and the Talking Heads, it really works for me.
this is familiar to me but quite boring
I liked it. made me want to hear more from this artist
it's certainly soul. some very recognizable songs and covers. but it was boring. a classic but boring to listen to. I feel like it would be perfect for like dinner party ambiance
perfect timing!! I'm literally going to Chicago tomorrow!
anyway this was okay. I mean, I get the gimmick that they can make their instruments sound like traffic and then name the album "transit authority." I don't think that's something that I'm just dying to hear again
there were some solid hits early in the album, but those are well known. everything else was really on the line between prog (which I despise) and jazz (which I don't have strong feelings about).
I'm not going to listen to the full album again, but I put a few of the popular songs on some like 60s and rock playlists
catchy. I liked every song
this is so entertaining to listen to, even if I have no clue on what's being said
I like the David Bowie mix better. it's more focused and palatable. I know some may consider that a negative but I can't listen to the other versions
I like the song Imagine. it's kind of inconceivable that it came from John Lennon alone when you look at the rest of the songs here. everything else is meh
I couldn't get into this. it was just okay
I like this but don't think I can listen to it like this again. I even like ambient music but there's not enough meat here for me to enjoy it on repeat
I fucking hate prog rock. don't waste my time with this being one of the top 1001 albums of all time. I don't think this is in the top 1 million albums of all time
I love country and honky-tonk music but overall this just doesn't hit for me. I like Streets of Bakersfield. that's a good one. otherwise it's a pass from me. not bad just not something I want to listen to again
I love David Bowie!
I feel like this is my least favorite album of his. I'm reading in other reviews about the strong influences of Brian Eno on this one. it's like the lyrics and voice are definitely Bowie - although even in that not his best work. and the music is not Bowie. you could've put any artist on top of these tracks. it was so disjointed.
but then there's one of my favorite songs of all time - Heroes. it was the only good track on the album to be honest
These songs were played at every prom in 1988, which I love as a vibe.
I was pleasantly surprised by this. Alice Cooper was always shock rock, but other than School's Out, there's a lot of non-shock-rock variety. Blues that's theatrical, lyrics that are thoughtfully constructed, and generally good music. Solid album
"It tastes like roses on your breath
But graveyards on your soul"
goes so hard in Blue Turk.
I like Arcade Fire, and I like this album okay but the religious allusions in this album fall flat for me. not bad, but there's not a lot that I'll seek out specifically
this is fine. nothing standout and nothing egregious
my older brother was so into Prodigy when we were growing up. he would play their album in his car on the way to school and in his car on the way home from school and from his stereo when we were at home.
it was the next album though "Fat of the Land" that I've heard a billion times. this one came out before, but the sound is very consistent between the two. that is to say familiar in a familial way but not something I seek out for myself generally.
it's really danc-y though. I think I had forgotten that. also they wear more eyeliner than I do
It's weird to me that Led Zeppelin is considered one of the greatest rock bands of all time. I mean, not weird. I get it. Weird words, good music, tons of eccentricity, etc. And maybe this is even their masterpiece or whatever, but I don't seek out listening to them. It's great music, but it doesn't stick with me like I need it to to give it 5 stars. Perhaps that's a personal failing, which I accept.
I get what he's doing here, but it doesn't land for me. Something about white dudes from California satirizing Southern racism is tough for me to get into. Otherwise, there are some catchy songs, and I don't hate it all. Solid 3
I listened to both - the album on Spotify and the one on YouTube. They do sound very different, but I don't have a strong preference either way. I did like the actually album, but I don't have any way to consider the context when it came out as it's apparently very influencial but sounds like a lot of stuff I'm more familiar with.
it's okay. I found out they're all covers of 50s songs so that's why a lot of them are familiar, but there's nothing here that really wows me
I find this to be quite boring
I really like this! sometimes I want a soundtrack and this is an amazing one for so many things - a montage of shopping scenes, an intriguing introduction at a bar, a home invasion, walking through a casino. this is music to romanticize your life to!
it's okay. I wouldn't seek it out
I was expecting more from this trio. I guess it's in line with country music at the time, but I didn't know this existed until it was assigned to me today and I am underwhelmed
aptly named although leaning more toward sad
I like this, but it's not my favorite U2 album. several of their hits and a great sound for them overall but some of the tracks fall flat to me
solid tracks with some filler. I don't know how Love of My Life isn't one of their biggest hits bc it's just so good and full of drama and heartache. drama is what Queen does best
I ended up really liking this. I've never heard any of these songs before, but they all had that easy familiarity that draws me in. Nothing incredibly standout for me, but nice to listen to.
I've never heard this before, but I really like it. I love electronic music. Although I'm not a huge fan of sampling speaking over music, this really worked for me. It wasn't super polished, but I would definitely listen to it again.
this was 3 discs and hard to listen to all the way through. I like The Who but I don't really like Tommy. there's something scary about it to me and everyone I've said that to kinda looks at me weird but it's true
I like Bjork's lyrics and music, but I can't get into her voice. I think I'd rather listen to covers of Bjork's songs than the artist herself
I liked this for exactly 3 stars
there's so much jazz on this list. way more jazz than I've ever listened to in my life. I can't seem to get a feel for it. what's good jazz? what's bad jazz? I almost need a separate list of just the jazz and then I can do a jazz master class and maybe figure out the answers to these questions and more
this is a kind of jazz that's also bossa nova, which it turns out I'm a huge fan of. actually, I don't know if bossa nova is like a subgenre of jazz but that feels right to me. this is a vibe, and I really like it. but it doesn't necessarily fit in to my day to day life
I hate everything about this
I've never heard of this band before this album was assigned to me.
I liked this but I think the songs were too short. I mean, I know it's kind of their thing like they don't want to overstay their welcome or something but this swings too far in the opposite direction to me. like, the cool guy you invite to the party but he has half of a drink and makes an Irish exit 30 min later. it doesn't make him cooler. it makes me think he has anxiety so I stop inviting him to the party
so much jazz on this list. I liked it okay but it doesn't stand out to me
gods this is boring. dad rock at its rock bottom
again reminded that I love bossa nova music and will until my dying day. also women's voices. also songs in languages I don't speak. it checks all the boxes. this album is amazing and I cranked it up to listen to it over and over. it tickles my brain
this didn't really do anything for me. like beatles without the magic. off brand
fantastic. so glad I got to hear this
I liked this but didn't love it
the ultimate 60s rock sound. so fun and entertaining to listen to
I really like this. Good beats and a unique sound. It's nothing super original, but it's dance-y and I'd listen to it again happily.
prog rock. this is not for me.
catchy songs that I recognized and enjoyed listening to
I had never heard this band before, but this is great! I mean weird and very 90s but I enjoyed it a lot. nothing quite stood out to me but I didn't enjoy it
close to a masterpiece but doesn't quite touch Kid A which is their best album. my love of Radiohead can't be understated or diminished. their music has gotten me through some pretty terrible situations and In Rainbows is what started it all for me bc I could download the album for free
this is weird but I actually enjoyed it. I think there's something really smart here but it's buried under layers of like 13 year old boy humor
A classic of the genre but dated to my ears in 2025. I really hate misogyny in rap music. I've never heard a good excuse for why it's so prolific other than it's cultural - which...isn't the argument they think it is. I won't listen to this again if I can avoid it.
Rap skits are cringe.
This is the album of all time which includes the songs of all time. Frequently imitated never replicated. Close to perfect.
I don't enjoy listening to it though.
lots of hits on this one. listening all the way through for the first time, and it strikes me that it's solid, but not every song is a masterpiece like other reviewers say.
dad rock but I don't hate it
turns out I hate too much harmonica and this is mostly harmonica
I used to hate Pearl Jam because the reminded me so strongly of my ex. He listened to these songs over and over while we were in a relationship. Except, now that I'm listening to Ten front to back for the first time in so many years, I'm realizing that I independently like this so much. So many bangers. Eddie Vedder's voice is a bit much for me to consider this for my personal top 10, but it's so distinctive that it makes Pearl Jam what it is.
my least favorite The Who album so far. the only good songs are Tattoo and I Can See For Miles
what a glorious experience of an album. it could have been 5 stars except that the later half was all covers in the FGTH style.
the music is great but something about the vocals just grates on me. the wailing, incomprehensibility of it means my brain can't land on it.
now arguably, music is not always intended to make us feel comfortable and good and safe, which is why this gets 3 stars. I like the music but not the vocals, and the whole package certainly evokes something in me
I love this album. 60s psychedelic blues rock peak for me. I do think it suffers a bit from being repetitive
couple of solid songs and the rest feels very same-y
it's really hard to rate an album that's almost 70 years old. now, in 2025, musical and cultural context is so different than it was in the 50s.
for consistency's sake, I can say that I didn't enjoy this album as much as I was hoping to. some of the songs and the sound was familiar, but I wasn't really wow'd by what I heard
I love this except it doesn't really feature Lorde's amazing voice. The range on the vocals is really narrow, and I think that's a shame.
I was expecting to recognize at least one song on this because I consider myself a Stones enjoyer and know quite a bit of their music. I didn't recognize a single song though!
Overall, I enjoyed this as much as I enjoy most blues rock, although I don't think it sounds like peak Rolling Stones and is very Americanized.
I like this okay until I got to the screaming guitars in Daande Lenol. Bumped down to 2 stars.
I friggin love this. THIS is why I'm doing this sisyphean task and wading through all of the mid Brit rock. I will listen to this album, artist, and genre over and over again. I've never heard anything quite like it. 5 stars hands down
I couldn't get into the vibe of this. I'm not a big fan of trumpet-focused jazz. It's almost like too much energy in the music, and I can never get emotionally or physically comfortable listening to it. I guess that's why some people like it, but it makes a bad experience for me.
Guess this list just revealed something about me. Nice. 2 stars for self reflection through music I don't really like.
I liked this more than I thought I would, although I don't like prog rock other than Rush. It had some solid moments that rocked that would inevitably be ruined with their weird noises or meandering away from something great. There wasn't anything memorable for me, but again I didn't hate it so 3 stars.
Iconic album! These songs played on TV, radio, in stores, in movies, everywhere! Most songs are entertaining but some of them have aged poorly. I find that it's consistent with Beyonce albums that even within a single album, the song messages are wildly inconsistent. This is not a concept album!
While I can tell that for the most part this music comes from a very real and earnest place from the artist, to me it feels almost like a plastic replica of something great. It's cloyingly sweet or too polished or something. There are a few really good songs, but I feel mixed about it overall.
