The Stranger by Billy Joel

*Slightly* better than the usual piano rock dross of Elton John.

Kid A by Radiohead

I used to be a massive Radiohead fan. I remember having my first teenage turmoil over a girl, and avidly consuming their entire discography - my very own 24 hour emo phase. I can't really hold the same regard for them these days. Maybe it's because I played them out in my hormonal years, or because they are massively in vogue in the minute on social media. Maybe I've just moved on. I still like some of their stuff, however. I still revisit The King Of Limbs a lot, despite that albums mediocre reception (or maybe because of it). With that all being said I'd still struggle to give Kid A any less than a 4. This used to be a top 5 album for me, and despite some songs souring on me, many of the elements that make this album special still shine through. It still sounds strange and apocalyptic in an empty, lonely way that no other records capture. It's guitar-heavier tracks still have a groove to them that I can't resist finding cool to this day. Motion Picture Soundtrack and Untitled capping off the album still bring a tears to my eyes. Anyone who seriously devoted themselves to musical exploration knows that it can be hard to gleam the same wonder the records of your childhood could spark, but I think sacking them off completely is erasing a part of yourself. Kid A may not be important to me now, but I refuse to forget what it was to me in some of my most important moments.

Atomizer by Big Black

Probably the most hostile and abrasive rock album that doesn't stray into metal territory. Every element in these recordings - from the searing guitars to Albini's strained vocals and disturbing lyrics make it a near wince-inducing listen - and for that I adore it.

Reggatta De Blanc by The Police

Slightly disappointing to be honest. Really wanted to like it as I have enjoyed the odd police track in past, but I just couldn't dig it. Drumming was impressive though.

The Score by Fugees

Difficult. Clearly a talented group, undeniably even. The production in hip hop means a lot to me though - and it so boring here that it drains me a bit.

Brothers by The Black Keys
Jan 13 2026

Really middling for me. Lots of boring 2010s rock sound. Some of it was ok but I tired of it rather quickly.

Blonde On Blonde by Bob Dylan
Jan 15 2026

Still like this after a re listen. Probs my fave Dylan. Like the guitars and the writing but I can't really immerse myself.

Nilsson Schmilsson by Harry Nilsson
Jan 16 2026

This is really fun. Not my favorite thing ever but there's some super dope tracks here. Coconut I'm familiar with and a big fan of, jump into the fire is also a really cool jammy song. Good stuff Harry.

Exodus by Bob Marley & The Wailers
Jan 17 2026

Reggae done to a superb standard. Hard to beat really.

Lady Soul by Aretha Franklin
Jan 18 2026

I always am hesitant to listen to old R&B/Soul, which is odd because I always end up loving them. This is a lovely record that has some great soulful slow tunes, and some more funky lively stuff.

Jan 19 2026

It's pretty fun. The production of the tracks here really outshine the lyrically content, which is alright at best, and poorly aged at it's worst. Either way, this is a fine record. Not quite hall of fame status, but it's cool.

Metallica by Metallica
Jan 20 2026

After a bit of deliberation, I have decided i'm not going to be re-listening to the black album. I'm not really overly fond of Metallica at the best of times these days, and the black album is kind of a culmination of the issues I have with them. That being said, it's a reasonably fine album, and I can't knock it entirely just because it's fallen out of favor with me. Used to mess with it back in the day.

Jan 21 2026

Tom Waits' stuff is a guaranteed intresting time. This grabbed me less that some of his later stuff I've heard, but was a fun listen nontheless.

Elvis Presley by Elvis Presley
Jan 22 2026

Honestly shocked I'd not heard an Elvis album before. Pretty solid but not entirely for me.

The Real Thing by Faith No More
Jan 23 2026

Really wanted to like this, and some moments are genuinely well done, but there's also a lot of 90s pomp here that I can't get behind. That puts it firmly in middle ground for me.

Jan 24 2026

I think this albums greatest sin is that it's ultimately surpassed by the other Big Beat bands of the time. There's nothing that drives me to Fatboy Slim that I wouldn't be able to find in a prodigy or chemical brothers record. That being said, it has its moment, and Acid 8000 is a phenomenally fun track.

Destroyer by KISS
Jan 25 2026

DNF. This is was pretty tired. Some songs were tolerable, it's not the most offensive record ever, but it's just boring and predictable. Nothing was keeping me intrested.

Odessey And Oracle by The Zombies
Jan 26 2026

It blows listening to this, becuase I really want to love it more than I do. Not that it's bad, its proficient and I really like a couple of the tracks, but a lot of it isn't for me.

Rust Never Sleeps by Neil Young & Crazy Horse
Jan 29 2026

Liked this a lot more then when I last heard it. The electric side is really ace.

Freak Out! by The Mothers Of Invention
Jan 30 2026

Gave the relisten a miss as I'd respun it very recently. Grand record. About as weird as 60s gets. Not zappa best but pretty damn good.

Moving Pictures by Rush
Jan 31 2026

Absolutely class. One of the best prog records going. Such an epic sound.

Nowhere by Ride
Feb 01 2026

An album by a band I've never heard before, which is a first for the list! This was very pleasant. Didn't blow me away but it was cool.

Music by Madonna
Feb 02 2026

Thought this was really fun. Lot a stuff I wasn't as keen on, but some of the tracks are really smooth. The ones produced by William Orbit especially so.

Reggatta De Blanc by The Police
Feb 03 2026

Slightly disappointing to be honest. Really wanted to like it as I have enjoyed the odd police track in past, but I just couldn't dig it. Drumming was impressive though.

Bandwagonesque by Teenage Fanclub
Feb 04 2026

Perfectly alright. Nothing too crazy but it was enjoyable. Unlikely to revisit.

New York Dolls by New York Dolls
Feb 05 2026

Really fun punk album. Had been meaning to listen to it for a while. Will be returning to it.

Next by The Sensational Alex Harvey Band
Feb 06 2026

This really icked me for some reason. Not a fan at all.

Funeral by Arcade Fire
Feb 07 2026

Quite a fun relisten. Not a great deal to say but it's a very solid album.

Scum by Napalm Death
Feb 08 2026

Quite liked this. Not the greatest metal album I've heard but it was punchy and fun. A decent time.

Nebraska by Bruce Springsteen
Feb 09 2026

Really solid. Very different to the other Springsteen stuff I've heard, but in a positive way. Super cool.

Sticky Fingers by The Rolling Stones
Feb 10 2026

Man, this has grown on me so much over time. Just a great collection of absolutely stellar rock songs, so much fun.

There's A Riot Goin' On by Sly & The Family Stone
Feb 11 2026

An absolute classic funk record. I've always been a big fan of this one, it's got a bit of everything you need.

I See A Darkness by Bonnie "Prince" Billy
Feb 12 2026

I really wasn't too keen on this. It wasn't bad by any stretch, but it just didn't grab me, which is unfortunate as I think there probably is some talent at play.

Rust In Peace by Megadeth
Feb 13 2026

Man, every time I listen to this record it grows on me more and more. It kicks a ridiculous amount of ass, the guitar-work straddling a beautiful balance between technical proficiency and outright catchiness. That's not to diminish the other elements - both the bass and drums are done to perfection - and Mustaine's singing does as it needs to. Not nearly as offensive as people claim it to be in my eyes.

Different Class by Pulp
Feb 14 2026

Pulp are probably the best Britpop has to offer. Decent songwriting, classy instrumentation, it's decent.

A Date With The Everly Brothers by The Everly Brothers
Feb 15 2026

Perfectly pleasant but not very impressive. Was nice to hear some pre-beatles pop either way, feels like it's a period of music that gets overlooked these days.

Germfree Adolescents by X-Ray Spex
Feb 16 2026

This is ace. A really cool band that I'd heard of, but stupidly never tuned into. The sax on this is superb, ahead of it's time in my eyes.

If You Can Believe Your Eyes & Ears by The Mamas & The Papas
Feb 17 2026

I mean not all of this is jaw-droppingly good, but it's just too pleasant to give any less praise to. A very nice record.

The Köln Concert by Keith Jarrett
Feb 18 2026

Absolutely beautiful, especially so with the context of Jarrett playing this at the request of a young fan, on a broken down, shoddy piano which was the only equipment avalible.

Dance Mania by Tito Puente
Feb 19 2026

Fairly simple but quite fun. Was a perfectly fine listen but I can't see myself returning.

Kenza by Khaled
Feb 20 2026

Perfectly pleasant. At times a bit repetitive at times but when it shines it's really fun.

Pretenders by Pretenders
Feb 21 2026

A solid enough new wave record. For every great track on here there are about 2 that I'd take or leave. Enjoyable listen overall however.

Hotel California by Eagles
Feb 22 2026

Always been against the eagles. Guitar wankery with no real substance.

Headquarters by The Monkees
Feb 23 2026

I enjoy sunny 60s pop music enough to get behind this, but I think I would tire of it if not for that fact.

Born To Run by Bruce Springsteen
Feb 24 2026

A great, if over-the-top at times record. When it fully embraces the theatrical sound, with pianos, saxes etc, it almost feels like I should hate it - but it just works. The title track is wonderful.

Feb 25 2026

I'm a big fan of 60s psych rock in general, so this was always gonna be a win for me. The Byrds happen to it exceptionally well. This record nails that signature Laurel Canyon sound of sunny psychadelia with an slightly sinister undertone.

Orbital 2 by Orbital
Feb 26 2026

It's a real shame to see that Orbital aren't getting much love on here. I carry a level of bias as this is music I grew up around, that has always been part of my life, but I genuinley belive that the Hartnols made some of the most beautiful, human and heartfelt music in the 90s. This record lacks some of the progressivness that elevates their other records, but still stands as a wonderful LP with a lot to love.

Heartattack And Vine by Tom Waits
Feb 27 2026

Not Waits best. Has it's moments but lacks some of the variety that make me love his other LPs.

Bad by Michael Jackson
Feb 28 2026

Unlike some of MJs better work, this has aged poorly, and has a sickly 80s feel that I can't really get behind. Has it's moments in the title track and smooth criminal.

Done By The Forces Of Nature by Jungle Brothers
Mar 01 2026

A bit lacking compared to some of the other more spiritual hip-hop albums of it's time, but nontheless very enjoyable - with some standouts.

Tapestry by Carole King
Mar 02 2026

Really respectable album but I couldn't really get into it as much as id have liked. Still good though.

Amnesiac by Radiohead
Mar 03 2026

Tolerable but easily the most forgettable radiohead record.

Court And Spark by Joni Mitchell
Mar 04 2026

Not the best I've heard from Joni but still incredibly catchy and solid. She's an excellent songwriter.

Damaged by Black Flag
Mar 06 2026

Absolutely class early hardcore. Some really sick heavier tracks on the thing.

Mar 07 2026

Could not get into it for the life of me. Even though there's plenty to redeem it it's just too Elton John.

Histoire De Melody Nelson by Serge Gainsbourg
Mar 08 2026

Singing was a little bit uncomfortable at times but the musical content was actually really good. A very pleasant surprise.

Dr. Octagonecologyst by Dr. Octagon
Mar 09 2026

Fine if pretty bland 90s hip hop. Don't really have a lot to say about it other than that it didn't really strike me as memorable in any sense. It's cool in concept but I'm just not fond.

Ten by Pearl Jam
Mar 10 2026

I can see this appealing to people but it didn't really do anything to me. The vocals were grating and the actual music was way too focused on having a 'large' sound that I really didn't care for.

Hypocrisy Is The Greatest Luxury by The Disposable Heroes Of Hiphoprisy
Mar 11 2026

Almost a 4 !I liked alot about this but none of it hit hard enough to make an impact. He talks a lot of sense though.

3 Feet High and Rising by De La Soul
Mar 12 2026

Man, I had such high hopes for this but it just didn't really hit as hard as I was hoping. Just failed to have any real punch to it.

Mar 13 2026

Enjoyed this more than I expected myself to. There's some really nice melodies and good songwriting here. Would like to check out more of hers in the future.

What's Going On by Marvin Gaye
Mar 14 2026

Really needed to revisit this. One of the greats soul wise, there's a lot to love. Brilliant record.

Trans Europe Express by Kraftwerk
Mar 16 2026

Out of Kraftwerk's seminal three albums, trans europa express has always taken last place for me. I find some of the tracks in it's first half a bit too martial and cold. Even with that being said, it's still one of the best records of it's time. There's so much warmth and charm to be found in the music, that it's hard to ever really dislike it. I've never listened to a Kraftwerk record and had a worse day because of it, nor do I think I ever will.

Mar 19 2026

Man, this is way better than I remember it being. So fun and melodic. A worthy revisit absolutely.

Queen Of Denmark by John Grant
Mar 20 2026

Pleasant but lost on me. Still gets a fair score.

Off The Wall by Michael Jackson
Mar 21 2026

Enjoyed it a fair bit. Has aged a lot better than Bad. The second half was rather dry though.

Quiet Life by Japan
Mar 22 2026

Wanted to like this as I've heard a few tracks that I've enjoyed beforehand. A lot of it all fell flat.

Rumours by Fleetwood Mac
Mar 24 2026

One of the most solid albums ever released. Not my favourite but it's hard to argue about the consistent standards of this record.

Boston by Boston
Mar 25 2026

Hard Rock done in the most boring way possible. The kind of music your mates lame dad claims is the pinnacle of rock.

Mar 26 2026

When I woke up this morning and saw what album had been generated, I admittedly groaned a bit at he name and cover. It didn't look promising to me to say the least. I recognized Crosby's name though, and opted to give it a fair chance. I'm glad I did, as this is one of the lushest and warm psychedelic records I've heard, just superbly fun stuff front to back.

KE*A*H** (Psalm 69) by Ministry
Mar 27 2026

Not one I see myself relistening to often, but really really cool nontheless. Some of the most crushing industrial tracks I've heard.

Surfer Rosa by Pixies
Mar 28 2026

My fav from the pixies. Excellent harsh sound to it, just brill.

Will The Circle Be Unbroken by Nitty Gritty Dirt Band
Mar 29 2026

Cool, but not really for me unfortunately. Wish I could get more into country.

Bayou Country by Creedence Clearwater Revival
Mar 30 2026

Really really fun. Nothing too groundbreaking but just a really solid bluesy album, as expected from CCR. Great when it embraces jam elements more.

Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd
Mar 31 2026

It don't get much better than this. Dark Side Of The Moon gets it's fair praise for being a brilliant, innovative album - but Wish You Were Here is a perfect example of an absolutey flawless 45 minutes of music. The chilling opening notes of Shine On draw you into an album that can make you laugh, cry, shudder - span the breadth of human emotion, and all while sounding tight as fuck. I've still some reservations on the ethics surrounding how the band writes about Syd Barrett, but that doesn't drag down how high class the music is.

Ready To Die by The Notorious B.I.G.
Apr 01 2026

The flow on this album, especially it's first half, is ridiculous creative and fun. Layered on top of some brilliant spaced out beats, this album is a stunner. Slightly let down by the odd track and shite skits, but a stone cold classic nontheless.

Nixon by Lambchop
Apr 02 2026

Really odd. I have nothing bad to say, but nothing in praise either. Just a very eh record that I will probably not return to.

Fever To Tell by Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Apr 03 2026

Fine I guess. Nothing stuck with me other than a few moments that were solid. I can't really complain about much either. A pretty bland example of 2000s garage rock.

Ramones by Ramones
Apr 04 2026

Can't hate it. They aren't my fav of the initial wave of punk, I think the Stooges and NY Dolls have them beat to be frank, but it's perfectly fun music at the end of the day. A solid record.

69 Love Songs by The Magnetic Fields
Apr 05 2026

A great collection of charming songs. I've had the virtue of hearing this before, and I don't know if it'd really suited to a challenge such as this by nature of it's length, but it's worth a go.

What's That Noise? by Coldcut
Apr 06 2026

I'm really fond of coldcuts dj mixes but this just doesn't work that well for an album unfortunately.

Fuzzy by Grant Lee Buffalo
Apr 08 2026

Fairly pleasant with a few standouts. Pleasantly surprised me.

Under Construction by Missy Elliott
Apr 09 2026

Pretty fun but lacks much depth. Almost sickly 2000s sounds.

Apr 10 2026

A profoundly peaceful and calming record that's always been a big hit for me. The first and final tracks especially are so beautifully crafted. Music doesn't always have to be catchy melodies or sharp guitar tones.

Stardust by Willie Nelson
Apr 11 2026

Some pleasant moment but ultimately pretty tired. Didn't hate it, didn't love it. Background music.

Face to Face by The Kinks
Apr 12 2026

A bit more stripped back and primitive than some of my my favored kinks records, but still a good time nontheless.

Bug by Dinosaur Jr.
Apr 13 2026

Very so so. Liked it more than not but I've never been too keen on the singer in DJR and that's no different here. Final track was kinda dope.

Transformer by Lou Reed
Apr 14 2026

Not Lous best but an undeniably good record with a lot of smash hits on it. Big fan.

Strange Cargo III by William Orbit
Apr 16 2026

Really ace. William Orbit is a brill producer and he delivers some excellent spacey tracks here. A very chilled out experience.

Rattus Norvegicus by The Stranglers
Apr 17 2026

Class. Very fun and I love the swirly synth noises and the filthiness of it. Brill stuff.

A Love Supreme by John Coltrane
Apr 19 2026

Not a great deal to say here. A brilliant jazz record by all accounts. Less to my taste than some of my favorites but it's hard to deny that Coltrane is a wizard.

Third by Portishead
Apr 20 2026

My favorite Portishead. Delightfully moody and sombre. Got a great variety of sounds going on, works really well.

Physical Graffiti by Led Zeppelin
Apr 21 2026

A great record with some of the punchiest songs Zep ever recorded. The first disc is perfect, second drops the ball a little but still hits pretty hard. Good stuff all round.

Ocean Rain by Echo And The Bunnymen
Apr 22 2026

A warm and textured post-punk album that I've been meaning to listen to for ages. I thoroughly enjoyed this. Excellent stuff.

Apr 23 2026

Cool, I think nirvana were at their best when they *were* plugged so to speaker but this is a cool show of the bands musicianship with some highlight tracks.

Green River by Creedence Clearwater Revival
Apr 25 2026

Honestly find this one pretty bland unfortunately. CCR has much superior work in my eyes.

Black Sabbath by Black Sabbath
Apr 26 2026

A good record, I think sabbath were a bit primitive at this point, and it doesn't hold up as well as some of their later records, but it hit quite hard nonetheless.

Foxbase Alpha by Saint Etienne
Apr 27 2026

A very pleasant surprise. A lush and beautiful record that is very spring-feeling (luckily it's spring for me at the minute). Will be checking out more Saint Etienne.

Siamese Dream by The Smashing Pumpkins
Apr 28 2026

It's amazingly solid but the Smashing Pumpkins can never escape how irritating Corgan is in a lot of ways. Most of the tracks hit so hard instrumentally that it's easy enough to ignore with this record, but he's ever present nonetheless.

Apr 29 2026

I really like Funkadelic but this album is up and down for me. Some great moments with the title track and the rendition of Maggot Brain, but also some stuff I find forgettable.

A Girl Called Dusty by Dusty Springfield
Apr 30 2026

Fine but not really my style. She's a great singer but I just find it kind of boring.

Hunky Dory by David Bowie
May 01 2026

I've a huge Bowie bias to be clear, but I'd struggle to see someone not enjoying this. It's so grand, so fun. The piano is beautiful, the guitars hit when they need to, just a brill album.

Live! by Fela Kuti
May 02 2026

A fantastically fun record, it's hard not to enjoy Fela Kuti, his music is so lively and dance-able. Cracking stuff.

Truth And Soul by Fishbone
May 03 2026

Really icked me. Not a fan at all. I like Ska in some environments but not whatever this is.

The Rising by Bruce Springsteen
May 04 2026

Kinda middling for Springsteen. A bit disappointing. Not nearly as intresting as some of his other records.

Abraxas by Santana
May 05 2026

Love this album to bits, a lush and thrilling rock album all the way through, definitely Santana at his best.

Madman Across The Water by Elton John
May 06 2026

Almost went on a whole rant about how benign and drab I find a lot of Elton John, but I don't even hate this album. I'd just rather be listening to a lot of other shit that does it better.

Ragged Glory by Neil Young & Crazy Horse
May 07 2026

Decent record with a lot of Young's grungier stuff. I'm really fond of a few songs - but other are forgettable or slightly tired. Worth the listen either way.

May 08 2026

Really solid prog album. Yes have always veered a little bit too hard into the whimsical for me, but it's hard to pick faults with Close To The Edge. Especially with a track like Siberian Khatru.

...And Justice For All by Metallica
May 09 2026

Metallica are a very varied band. Their earlier albums are fine, if inferior to what the rest of the 'big 4' were releasing at the time. Their later stuff is poppy and ranges from middling to poor. And Justice For All is infuriating, because it's by far the best of their earlier works in my eyes, with the hardest, no-nonsense sound they would ever carry; and yet after this, they would reduce themselves to pop-metal.

Odelay by Beck
May 10 2026

Just a fantastically laid back record. Hits all the right spots for me, even thought I know it's a bit flawed din places.

Post Orgasmic Chill by Skunk Anansie
May 11 2026

Sadly couldn't get into it. Clearly some cool politically charged writing going on - but it happens to be over quite boring riffs. Instrumentals mean a lot more to be than lyrics unfortunately.

Dusty In Memphis by Dusty Springfield
May 12 2026

A collection of very proficient soul tracks. Lacks the punch that more straight to the point souls has for me, but it's an enjoyable record through and through. Much better than her earlier records.

Rock 'N Soul by Solomon Burke
May 13 2026

A fine album but slightly repetitive. I feel records from the early 60s serve more to lump a bunch of random tracks together rather than to try and create a specific theme.

Highway to Hell by AC/DC
May 14 2026

I really don't know how I feel about ACDC at this point. Back as a teenager - who thought thatguitars were boring - I saw them as the biggest example of my exhaustion with rock music. Later in my life - with a newfound realisation that guitars can be really fucking good - they're alright. I don't think anything here is mind-blowing brilliant, but it's good raucous fun. I think that's what the bands best at. Not everything has to be high art, and I think Highway To Hell serves as a great example of that.

Reign In Blood by Slayer
May 15 2026

No nonsense, tight, heavy. Everything needed from a solid thrash record. Big fan.

Sunday At The Village Vanguard by Bill Evans Trio
May 16 2026

Very technically admirable - but I feel cool jazz just lacks a certain punch. It just doesn't grab me.

Axis: Bold As Love by Jimi Hendrix
May 17 2026

Axis may not show Jimi at his most boundary pushing - but it presents an absolutely rock-solid collection of brilliant tracks. Sublime.

May 18 2026

Honestly I never have high expectation for Blur outside of providing fun poppy in-and-out albums. This kinda hit though, was quite keen on the songwriting.

The Band by The Band
May 19 2026

Eh. Expected CCR esque jamming, was met with watered down southern rock. Not for me.

Rattlesnakes by Lloyd Cole And The Commotions
May 20 2026

Listened this morning and yet I genuinely couldn't tell you a thing about it. Very bland jangle pop. Forgettable.

Revolver by Beatles
May 21 2026

The first Beatles album the generator has given me, and it almost feels like a shame. Not due to the quality of the record in question - quite the opposite. Revolver, in my eyes, is the single most cohesive and complete album the fab 4 put out. It's got such a great sound and every relisten yields something new. Simply brilliant.

Snivilisation by Orbital
May 22 2026

When the other Orbital album on this list came up for me, I was slightly shocked and saddened by the poor reception it received. While Snivilisation is one of my favourite records of all time, in an almost parodixical way I understand it's poor reception more. I ultimately it down to Sniv being a rare case of a pschadelics album. The appended S in fully intentional. This is music for when your tripping balls. Once you start to appreciate it as such parts of the Hartnoll's approach to songwriting that may seem puzzling or even boring become brilliant. The approach to texture and feel in their soundscapes and the often cyclical nature of their music. It's not for everyone, that's a given - but for the right person in the right mindset, there's a lot of enjoyment to be had here.

Tracy Chapman by Tracy Chapman
May 23 2026

Very pretty sounding music, but not for me.

Planet Rock: The Album by Afrika Bambaataa
May 25 2026

Of all the genres that compose electronic music, it must be said - sadly - that electro has aged rather poorly. The Rowland just doesn't sound as cool as it did in the 80s. That being said, Planet Rock still does. It's not greatest record you'll hear but it's suitable amounts of fun. Does the job.

Station To Station by David Bowie
May 26 2026

Bowie's best. An album with themes of isolation and downward spiral cloaked under a funky veneer. Brilliant.

The Coral by The Coral
May 27 2026

Not really a fan. Boring and derivative.

Kenya by Machito
May 28 2026

Smooth and fun. Never overly impressive but very enjoyable.

Marquee Moon by Television
May 29 2026

Kickass record. First side is brilliantly manic, second moody and depressive. Both come together to make what is possibly the best post-punk record of all time.

Foo Fighters by Foo Fighters
May 30 2026

Pleasantly surprised me. Wasn't expecting to enjoy a foos record as much as I did but this was actually pretty tasteful.

Atomizer by Big Black
May 31 2026

Probably the most hostile and abrasive rock album that doesn't stray into metal territory. Every element in these recordings - from the searing guitars to Albini's strained vocals and disturbing lyrics make it a near wince-inducing listen - and for that I adore it.

Black Metal by Venom
Jun 01 2026

Eh. Not too bad but I was not massively impressed by it either.

Neon Bible by Arcade Fire
Jun 02 2026

Didn't enjoy half as much as Funeral. It's alright but just less appealing.

Machine Gun Etiquette by The Damned
Jun 04 2026

Was expecting a bit more. Intresting as an early post punk record but I found it a bit boring to be honest.

Chris by Christine and the Queens
Jun 05 2026

Pleasant but not memorable, Production gets a shout for it's smoothness - but aside from that I don't see myself rushing back.

Crosby, Stills & Nash by Crosby, Stills & Nash
Jun 06 2026

On the version I listening to they have Neil Young featured in one of the bonus tracks like some sort of MCU post-credit scene for the CSNY lineup which I find amusing.

Mask by Bauhaus
Jun 07 2026

Very solid airy goth album. Always been a fan of a few key tracks like Kick In The Eye - which sounds incredible. Some others are rather forgetful though.

Jun 08 2026

Decent but none of the tracks stuck with me. The West Coast style of production always ends up leaving a lot to be desired in my eyes.

On The Beach by Neil Young
Jun 09 2026

Very melancholic and toned down. Will have to relisten to catch the lyrics but I enjoyed it a bunch more than I did a few years ago.

Country Life by Roxy Music
Jun 10 2026

Eh fine. I like some of Roxy Musics output but I can never fully immerse myself in it seemingly.

Talking Heads 77 by Talking Heads
Jun 11 2026

Couple of standouts but this is very proto for talking heads. Cool to hear some of the ideas that would go so far in later releases though.

The Contino Sessions by Death In Vegas
Jun 12 2026

Very, very hesitant. But there's some good on it. Kinda very forgettable at times though.

Blur by Blur
Jun 13 2026

There's something about late blur that I just can't stand. It's like they're trying desperately to be edgy and experimental and it's just falls falt. 13 manages it to an alright standard - in fairness - but beyond just you get records like this. Full of shlock that runs out it's welcome very quickly. Some odd redeeming tracks but overall a bit of a messy one.

Future Days by Can
Jun 14 2026

This is an absolutey excellent record the only failing of which is the band that made it. That's not to disrespect Can, but to raise up their other work - which trumps Future Days. That's quite a feat considering how rock solid this album is. 4 stellar Krautrock tracks that serve as a great intro to the genre, you can't get much better. But Can, can.

Spiderland by Slint
Jun 15 2026

The perfect post-hardcore record. Tension, release, texture. I can't even describe how brilliant this album has always been to me. Top 10 maybe.

Led Zeppelin IV by Led Zeppelin
Jun 16 2026

A monolith of hard rock, perhaps the tightest record ever produced. Folk elements are also grand.

Tonight's The Night by Neil Young
Jun 17 2026

Beginning to agree with claims of Neil Young over-representation... Decent record though.

The Gershwin Songbook by Ella Fitzgerald
Jun 19 2026

It's fine. I find a lot of these standards to be fairly boring but I can't overly knock them either.

Sign 'O' The Times by Prince
Jun 21 2026

Another record that really upsets me, becuase at its best points it's phenomenal - but it goes on way too long, and some of that time is wasted on fluff.

Jun 22 2026

Cool stuff, lot of interesting ideas. Was impressed.

Cheap Thrills by Big Brother & The Holding Company
Jun 24 2026

First half was forgettable. Second half was actuslly pretty decent. No one cna deny she's got a unique voice.

The Idiot by Iggy Pop
Jun 25 2026

One of the best 4-stars there is. There's not one part of this album I dislike but some of it's tracks are vastly more memorable than others. The opening 2 and mass production are some of the best, moodiest rock songs ever recorded.

Joan Baez by Joan Baez
Jun 26 2026

Nice record, very Greenwich Village in its folkiness.

Head Hunters by Herbie Hancock
Jun 27 2026

Wicked Jazz record. Like this one a lot.

In The Wee Small Hours by Frank Sinatra
Jun 28 2026

Sinatra undoubtedly has a good voice, but these songs are just so boring to me that it holds it back. Music can't be carried by vocals alone, and while the instrumentals are often pretty, they aren't enough.

Suede by Suede
Jun 29 2026

Alright at points but mainly kind of boring. I've heard better stuff from them.

Brothers In Arms by Dire Straits
Jun 30 2026

Dire straits first record is sick, and outside of the odd track, that makes this poncy shite such a disappointment.

After The Gold Rush by Neil Young
Jul 01 2026

Despite it's popularity, never really been a highlight of young's work for me.

Giant Steps by The Boo Radleys
Jul 02 2026

Booooooring. How is this an hour long.

Lam Toro by Baaba Maal
Jul 03 2026

Decent but way too long. Becomes repetitive fairly quickly.

Raising Hell by Run-D.M.C.
Jul 04 2026

Enjoyable if a bit stripped back. Has some good moments.

The Score by Fugees
Jul 05 2026

Difficult. Clearly a talented group, undeniably even. The production in hip hop means a lot to me though - and it so boring here that it drains me a bit.

Hypnotised by The Undertones
Jul 06 2026

Even in punks first generation - people were insistsnt on taking the edge off of it and falling back to pop sensibilities. The Undertones manage this rather tastefully - but part of me can't help but compare it to it's not-so-distant relative pop punk, which I belive to be an overall blemish on the genre. With that being said - this record isn't all too bad. It's got some fun tracks - just goes on maybe a slight too long.

Pornography by The Cure
Jul 07 2026

I like the cure but this record doesn't really hit for me. The songs end up blending into each other and becoming slightly monotonous.

Guero by Beck
Jul 08 2026

Not as vibrant as Odelay but still fairly enjoyable. Some good moments.

Coat Of Many Colors by Dolly Parton
Jul 09 2026

Fun stuff, enjoyed it a fair bit. Dolly is cool.

Time Out Of Mind by Bob Dylan
Jul 10 2026

I hadn't heard much about Dylan's later career, but this was really decent.

The Stranger by Billy Joel
Jul 11 2026

*Slightly* better than the usual piano rock dross of Elton John.

Bridge Over Troubled Water by Simon & Garfunkel
Jul 13 2026

Very pretty. Always had a fondness for this one. Some great little tunes on it.

Unknown Pleasures by Joy Division
Jul 14 2026

Amazingly moody and dark. Carries this through with groovy sounding guitarwork. Beloved for a reason.

En-Tact by The Shamen
Jul 15 2026

Really plain boring dance music. Disappointed as I'd heard a bit of praise for these before - but this is just so generic.

Jul 16 2026

Clinging on to the glam-rock aesthetic off the back of Roxy Music, Eno's first solo album starts his discography off well. Fun tracks with depth and soul. Lovely listen .

Halcyon Digest by Deerhunter
Jul 17 2026

Some nice ideas, the first track especially is cool. But ultimately kinda mixed.

The Fat Of The Land by The Prodigy
Jul 18 2026

Quintessential rave album. Some 90s dance music has a tednency to age very poorly. The Prodigy (somewhat ironically considering one of the song titles), manage to sound fun and feisty 30 years later.

Billion Dollar Babies by Alice Cooper
Jul 20 2026

It's alright. Pretty bland hard rock with a few standout tracks thrown in. Elected and Nice Guy are cool enough.

Aftermath by The Rolling Stones
Jul 21 2026

Fine, bland considering what the stones did at their peak.

Jul 23 2026

Dance music by nature struggles when translated to LP format. That makes it even more impressive when the transition is smooth. I'd give Underworld that accolade as this album is just a fantastic hour or so of music that never bores and consistently evolves. One of my favourite new listens from the project.

You Want It Darker by Leonard Cohen
Jul 24 2026

Beautifully dark and brooding. An album that should have gotten simmilar attention to Bowie's Blackstar in it's full pelt approach to death - but seems to have passed people by, perhaps due to it releasing later in the same year. Cohens voice is beautifully soothing here and is accompanied by simple yet beautiful instrumentals. Very much enjoyed it.

Welcome To The Pleasuredome by Frankie Goes To Hollywood
Jul 26 2026

A synthpop album with good moment, that ultimately is suffering an identity crisis. Some parts kick ass, others are forgettable.

Broken English by Marianne Faithfull
Jul 27 2026

She's got a cool voice but the actual music is kinda boring.

Meat Is Murder by The Smiths
Jul 28 2026

The Smiths at their best in terms of album work. You'll struggle to find a poor song outside of the titular ending track, which is a bit too much full on for most sane individuals. Outside of that you get 8 tracks that have some of the wittiest lyrics and sharpest instrumentation you'll get out of an 80s record.

xx by The xx
Jul 29 2026

Inoffensive dross. I'm sure there's some merit to this stuff but I really don't have the time to dig it out.

In Rainbows by Radiohead
Jul 30 2026

Not as crazy about this as I used to be as a angsty teenager, (which I can apply to almost every radiohead album). With that being said I still like some parts of it a lot. Does a fantastic job at feeling like that warm, almost comfortable parts of sadness and depression.

Five Leaves Left by Nick Drake
Jul 31 2026

Just a gorgeous album in every sense. The fact that this was Drakes first makes his untimely death even more impactful.

Queens of the Stone Age by Queens Of The Stone Age
Aug 01 2026

It's bizzare to me that this is the same group that would go on to do Songs For The Deaf. I often baulk at the Josh Homme hero worship you see a lot these days but I'd never deny the fact that he's made some damn good rocks songs. This album doesn't contain any of them though - I can barely remember a single track.

Aug 02 2026

Yeah, it's pretty misogynist. Yeah, they aren't actually saying anything groundbreaking. I don't care - it still sounds pretty good. Far from the best, but it has so many iconic moments that it's criminal not to pay it it's dues.

Call of the Valley by Shivkumar Sharma
Aug 03 2026

This is the kind of album I wanted to pick up the project for. Something I likely wouldn't have heard otherwise. It's brill to hear classical music from cultures so different to my own, and the music was really relaxing and pleasant.

Kid A by Radiohead
Aug 04 2026

The United States Of America by The United States Of America
Aug 05 2026

Coincidentally, a friend of mine recently reccomended this album to me - due to my love of psych rock. Relistening to it for the project has reasserted my opinion when I checked it out at his request. This album is absolutely awesome. I think the USofA really nail the ethos of psych rock in their one album. It's weird at times, quirky at others - but underneath all of that it's got some kickass moments. Take the opening for instance, which fades from circus-esque twee to a haunting vocal-led track. It's almost like a portishead track, only decades beforehand. Or Wooden Wife, in which the catchy satircal chorus is interspersed with a manic bridge, which feels akin to a more unhinged Zappa track. This album won't please everyone. It's too wierd for that. But for the right person this is really engaging, fun music.

Aug 06 2026

Not much to say here. The production is good because Phil Spector is producing, but the content is forgettable. Would be unlikely to revisit.

Fetch The Bolt Cutters by Fiona Apple
Aug 07 2026

Really cool album. Some really cool stuff on it and the piano is brill.

Tres Hombres by ZZ Top
Aug 08 2026

Fairly standard blues rock affair. Some fun moments but nothing akin to the greats of the genre.

Here, My Dear by Marvin Gaye
Aug 09 2026

Aw man, its days like this that remind me of why I stick with this project. Obviously I know Marvin Gaye - unsurprisingly for What's Going On - but by the virtue (or maybe sin) of how I go about finding music I hadn't bothered with listening to his other works. What a mistake! Previous exposure had me expecting slow, if well-produced and high-quality, soul. Instead Gaye Delivers a groovy funk-laden tracks that keep on surprising. Interspersed are some more classic soulful tracks, but they bang as well. Just gorgeous instrumentation all the way through. It's well worth checking the story behind this album out. It's one of divorce - and Gaye practically wrote it to settle the affair in court. Adds a new level to the lyrics - but does not in a way that seriously detracts from the music.

Central Reservation by Beth Orton
Aug 10 2026

A very pleasant surprise. Mixes acoustic songwriting and more downtempo electronic production to cool results! A lot of nice tracks, although some are kind of forgettable.

First Band On The Moon by The Cardigans
Aug 11 2026

An intresting one. Some really intriguing songs on the first half that I enjoyed, and it's was amazing to see how early Lovefool had come out having only heard it out of context. A fair few tracks fall short though.

I Should Coco by Supergrass
Aug 12 2026

Really fun. Some good tracks - nothing exceptional. They know how to make catchy tunes though, and are above some of the other britpop albums on the list so far for certain.

Autobahn by Kraftwerk
Aug 13 2026

Hurts me to give a group I adore so much a mediocre rating, but Autobahn is a record that screams out that Kraftwerk were still growing. It's not bad. The title track is classic - but slightly outstays it's welcome in my eyes. The rest is a decent collection of tracks. I'd just rather be listening to any of their many better albums.

Scott 4 by Scott Walker
Aug 14 2026

Heard a few of Scott Walker's earlier records but this one is particularly good. Starts of a bit slow but the back end of the album is jam-packed with great tracks.

Blunderbuss by Jack White
Aug 15 2026

Fine I suppose. It's actually quite good in parts but never in a particularly memorable way. I just can't get behind anything Jack White for some reason.

Electric Music For The Mind And Body by Country Joe & The Fish
Aug 16 2026

A fun acid-laced album with a couple of great tracks. Nothing particularly exceptional, but little to complain about either.

Queen II by Queen
Aug 17 2026

Fine. Starts of well and has some good guitarwork thoroughout but ultimately more songs I found forgettable.

Electric Ladyland by Jimi Hendrix
Aug 18 2026

A stone cold classic from the acid era. Being a double album, there are moments that seem slightly unnecessary - but that hardly detracts from the heaps of gold to be found here. The Band had tighter albums but Ladyland has their most talented displays. Just look at the final track for proof.

Aug 19 2026

Sensual, sexy and silky smooth. Records like this don't always work for me but the Urban Hang Suite hits the mark. A delightfully lush and pretty record.

I'm Your Man by Leonard Cohen
Aug 20 2026

A bizzare record, so much so that I don't really know what to make of it. It's got Cohen's signature wiring and structure to it, but over these cheesy 80s synths. Some tracks are so eccentric that I actually begin to really like them (Jazz Police), but the rest just melds into an odd-sounding mess.

Colour By Numbers by Culture Club
Aug 21 2026

So, after seeing what the first track was - and putting myself through listening to it - I was prepared for a 1 star rating. However as I cracked on with my boring day job, thinking about the review I'd write, something intresting happened. Colour By Numbers delivered some alright tracks. This isn't a good album but it has good moments. I can't help but enjoy Black Money and Changing Every Day - and while it's riddled with 80s cheese and other such elements that stain music of the era, it's not enough to keep it fully down. Boy George is a twat though.

Aug 22 2026

Can't help but shake the feeling that queen was a band of theatre kids who happened to be pretty good at making music. Not entirely for me but as usual Brian May deliver some pretty killer guitarwork.

Tusk by Fleetwood Mac
Aug 23 2026

Rumors eccentric rowdy little sibling. Decent if a bit all over the place
