Reviews (page 3 of 8)

Not familiar with any of the songs, but a really great sound.

4th album, coming off the incredible Permanent Vacation. Early Aerosmith was a force 1) banger 2) banger. Nice solo, Joe 3) don’t know this one. Verses are too frenetic for me, chorus is nice and heavy 4) fine, nothing exceptional. Again really nice guitar work. I like where they took things 1976. 5) another song where the speed and rhythm of the verses grates, but the breakdown section grooves hard. Some really creative and talented musical folks, especially Joe. 6) heavy. Get it. 7) bluesy heavy. It’s alright. Again this would have gone hard in 1976 8) could just be because they’ve been around forever, but they have a decent amount of ‘generic Aerosmith’ songs. This is one. Again the breakdown section is the highlight 9) wrap it up boys. Or just whine across the finish line. Solid 4 star. Really strong guitar work, good job Joe

A spectacularly rock-solid rock album

Kind of the definition of 70’s rock and this is where the Tyler/Perry duo was kind of perfect for the time.

I like Aerosmith, what can I say? It's just straight up 70s rock. And I think I might like this one a little bit more (but not a lot) than Toys in the Attic.

Very enjoyable listen. Genre is right down my alley and I really like the transitions between some of the songs.

Back in the saddle again!

In the vast world of “dad rock”, Aerosmith is definitely up there as one of the most iconic ones. But my only experience with them is Dream On. And although I can’t sit here and pretend like Steven’s vocal performance on that song isn’t jaw dropping, I was prepared to become quickly annoyed by his voice on this album. I was actually ready to shit on this. I just wasn’t anticipating something amazing. But this is not bad at all. The heaviness is what actually surprised me. This has some serious grooves to it. It reminds me of when I heard that ZZ Top album, and the intensity of it just gradually grew on me as I got farther and farther into it. This is supposedly heavier and dirtier than the albums they had previously released up until this point. And I don’t know if I would be able to enjoy their music as much if the heaviness was left behind. This is the kind of toughness in hard rock music that just so happens to make you consider drinking and driving. Steven Tyler’s voice is easily the best part. I said earlier that I thought I might get tired of it quickly. But I couldn’t have been more wrong. His singing is the one thing that is consistently amazing about every single song. He really has an incredibly dynamic voice. It’s also strangely charismatic of all things, which adds a lot of personality to the music. I think this record is far more worth the average persons time than I would have ever anticipated. Rating: 7/10

Just a great, hardcore rock album that was much needed after a drought of good music. quick to get through, leaves you wanting more. Good and classic!

Enjoyed this way more than I thought I would. Some great blues rock.

I'm on the fence with this one. It's very much "white boy rock", but it's very good "white boy rock". Aerosmith has put out some garbage, but this is good stuff. I'd give this about 7 1/2 on a scale of 1 to 10, just barely about the bottleneck of so many "7 out of 10" albums that are good but not great. So, converting to a 1 to 5 scale, it gets 3.75 stars, and I round up.

I don't believe I've ever heard any of these songs. Really enjoyed the album. 4/5

Aerosmith at their peak! Alicia Silverstone and Liv Tyler music videos are cool and all but this is their best era.

Joe Perry: "There's no doubt we were doing a lot of drugs by then, but whatever we were doing, it was still working for us."

You may not like it, but this is what peak male performance sounds like.

Okay album. Listened while training, suited that activity.

überraschenderweise nit schlecht

Didn't know any of these Aerosmith songs before this album. Enjoyed it more than I thought I would. 4* Highlights: last child

I have a copy of Young Lust which is an Aerosmith anthology from ~2000. No tracks from the Rocks album are on Young Lust, which is a shame as Rocks was really good. It was a much more raw sound on Rocks than a lot of their later stuff.

Bluesy hard rock. While a strong album with a lot of hard hitting songs, it lacks variety and gets kinda samey. Not really in the way the songs sound or anything, more like how they feel. Strong vocals, great riffs, full of catchy songs. I had a good time listening, makes me wanna listen to more of Aerosmiths early work. Might revisit, moreso makes me want to listen to their other albums. 3.5/5

I love that 9 songs only take 34 minutes to listen to. Less than 4 minutes per tune! I'd never listened to this album. Starts with Back in the Saddle, which is a rocker. No other huge hits on this one. Combination is an instrumental ROCKER! Why had I never heard it? Only 1 bad tune from what I heard.

For a person who does not like metal or rock it was not that bad and it was really enjoyable. Maybe a sign of more to come but i don't know

I’ve got a huge soft spot for 70s Aerosmith. The first band I ever got into even before the Beatles. But weirdly enough my ranking of the 70s albums is quite different than most. Like I even like Night in the Rutz as a whole more than this one and Toys in the Attic which I get is a weird opinion. Still some absolute classics on this one. Rating: 3.9

I considered myself quite familiar with Aerosmith until today. I don’t recognise a single track title here! I do quite enjoy all of the Aerosmith I know, so I go into this hopeful for something good! I wish I had Steven Tyler’s mouth. Let’s listen! Songs I already knew: none Favourites: Last Child, Sick As A Dog I enjoyed this album a lot. It’s rock music through and through, with guitar riffs as groovy as they are sexy. Steven Tyler has that excellent distinctive voice that we know from all the hits, and I’m happy to have added more to my brain. I’d say the bass and drums are fine, but the real highlights here are the vocals and the guitar playing.

This seems better than I expected. Some of the almost unique guitar work like parts of Sick as a Dog surprised me. For the genre and what they are going for this was pretty tight. I'm surprised to give Aerosmith a 4.

"Back in the Saddle" and "Last Child" are great songs. The others are great, but not particularly memorable. Steven Tyler's "devilish howl" can pierce an eardrum. Great to hear an album by a band with so many hits.

Mad how they did 3 great albums in 3 years, but then wouldn't have another for 10+ years.

In my place and the scientist.

Does Aerosmith get any better than this? Points towards Van Halen and much more musically adept than KISS. At this moment a great American heavy rock band. Seems all downhill from here.

Uvijek sam doživljavao Aerosmith kao meme bend iz nekog razloga, ali ovaj album je bio fakat solidan.

Better than I expected - another one I had never listened to in its entirety before. Seems like it could stand a remaster. Lick and a Promise was a standout among the 'deep cuts'.

Aerosmith Rocks. They sure do. Excellent album.

Rocks is the follow up to their massive commercial breakthrough Toys In The Attic, this album came on while they are at the top of their young career commercialy and creativly, they are on of the greatest band in america representing hard rock. First the album is a classical Hard rock album, but somethime it feel way more bluesy than other of their contemporary will still souning pretty heavy. In general the album feel like a whole, no song are worst of particulary better than the other, that could be a flaw, but in this case i think it create a great album. Some song stand out for me like: Rats in the cellar: The intro feel like the bridge in whole lotta love, and its a good things, will the fast tempo lyrics and the way the chorus is sing are very cool and the song in globably exclent, i would say its best in the album. Back in the Saddle: Its the oppener and its a good intro i think pretty cool and give the tone for the rest of the album Sick as a dog: Have a cool riff and lyrics, inspired by the Byrds and feel like a hard rock version of a Byrds song wich is pretty cool. The others song are pretty good, dosen't feel repetitive but work as a whole, i just click more with those one, and its due to the magic that was opering between all the band, especislly the toxic twins Joe Perry and Steven Tyler. Last Child: Have a very Funky sounding riff, wich sound like Love'em leave Em by kiss (probably the other way around, because rock and roll over was release a few month later). The intro is pretty cool, but the riff really carry oyt the song The album have a huge impact on rock music, Joe Perry describe it a a jewel in their discography and a model for all rockers in the country. The album was a massive commercial sucess with 4th time platinum status in the US (4 millions reccorded sales), but was less sucessfull than Toys in the Attic, probably because it lacks a big big hit like dream on or Walk this way. But its probably the most criticly acclaim album of the band, and it influences a lot of famous musicians. Kurt Cobain, Nikki Sixx, James Hetfield and Slash all said this album was influencial of it make them want to play guitare. Like Slash one of the best rock guitare hero and founder of the greatest band of all times, without Aeorsmith i doubt they ever existed due more specifly to this album. For that i think this album deserve all the good press and acclaim it recived.

Classic

Solid and vibey

Some old school classics that always deliver. The rest, the rest...meh.

Not a big fan of the band but this is my favorite!

Not Aerosmith's strongest album (that honor lies with Toys in the Attic), but a solid showing all the same. Steven Tyler had a hell of a powerful voice, and Joe Perry's guitar playing is awesome! There is a good mix of blues, funk, and rock in this music. Last Child is a phenomenal song! Favourite songs: Last Child, Back in the Saddle, Rats in the Cellar, Lick and a Promise, Get the Lead Out Least favourite songs: Nobody's Fault 4/5

Such a classic rock album. A childhood favorite as well. Last child is a classic. As is back in the saddle. High 4

This album rocks.

Quite a blast, and nice and short.

A good album with a great start.

Solid album. Some of these songs were new to me, and they weren't bad. I don't think this is a great album, but I do think it's better than a bunch of other albums on here. 3.5.

60/100 Based on this scale: 1 star - 0 to 19 2 stars - 20 to 39 3 stars - 40 to 59 4 stars - 60 to 79 5 stars - 80 to 100 Standard issue album by some of the most famous horny-hard-blues-rock bands out there. At the beginning of the album, I thought I was going to give it an entry-level four star score. After all, it has more foot-tapping moments than the overwhelming majority of albums I rated three stars. Then, I felt it dip toward the higher end of three stars. Then, back to four. Then, back to three. Finally, I settled on 60%, giving it the lowest score for four stars. Brilliant? Hardly. Fun while it lasts? Sure. Still, it'll get low average reviews today because overtly horny people tend to upset today's young people.

I listened to this album before when I was on my own journey to listen to famous classic rock albums. I like Aerosmith although I wouldn’t necessarily call myself a fan. I noted that I liked this album in 2020 and indeed, I liked it again now. Probably not something I’d keep on my phone but I enjoy Aerosmith’s energy from time to time.

Heard of Aerosmith but never properly listened. Makes me think of the Rock n Roll rollercoaster that I loved as a kid at Disney. Enjoying it off the bat. Low 4/5.

Ya buddy

God damn it, first we had Pump and now this. I guess I’m an Aerosmith fan now

Listened Before? N This one wasn't as solid as Pump (yesterday's selection). I feel like the first couple of songs were amazing then it fell off to kinda generic rock and roll... although they were one of the first making "generic" stuff so I'm sure it just didn't age well. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: Last Child

Excellent. No hard rock ever needed to last more than 33 minutes. Fast and straight.

it fucks. and i really think steven tyler and joe perry are cool. 4/5

ah, the bad boys of beantown! not as familiar with their back catalogue as i honestly should be. of course, “back in the saddle” is an all timer, but i really dig the deep cuts. very little filler on this album; in fact “home tonight” might be the only clunker in the bunch. it has the feel of a last minute “add on”. solid album. highlights: “rats in the cellar”, “nobody’s fault”, “lick and a promise”.

I hate to rate this a 4 because that’s what I rated Toys in the Attic (I think) and Toys is better than this one but this was still really good. So fuck it. YORRBAO

Really influential, really fun, maybe a bit forgettable, but really enjoyable. Like the album version of a popcorn Hollywood blockbuster - which absolutely has a place, but means it just falls short of full marks. Much better than I would have guessed before I listened though!

3.5 stars rounded up. "Last Child" is a new favourite.

Pretty good

Solid stuff, a few classics

Not my cup of tea but one of the best at what they do. All things working together. all the way to lick and a promise before i heard something i'd want to hear again.

CLASDIC ROCK GOLD

Starts with two well known bangers, then continues to rock throughout! Great guitars and bluesy rock. High 4

I only recognized like one or two songs from the album, but it was great to listen to, especially while playing Party Animals.

Although I am not a big fan of late Aerosmith, this album has probably my favorite early Aerosmith song ("Back In The Saddle"). This is when the band was a rocking band and not (IMO) as much of an embarrassment as they became in their later years. Trying to go farther with what Zeppelin did, and it works really well. I always like the bass work here, too. Even the "b-sides" are great rockers on this one, I don't think I really have any complaints at all about this one. A good, strong rocker.

Didn't expect it to be funky

Rock de Aerosmith. Ningún megahit. Un 4.

Often emulated, never outperformed.

Short and sweet, a good album

To listen

Classic Aerosmith

For some reason I seem to have a low tolerance for Aerosmith. It is probably because of the over abundance of their music on classic rock radio. But when I try to listen to this out of context it’s an awesome and apparently very influential 70s rocker. I like it!

Percebe-se claramente o começo do hard rock com metal para gerar excelentes referências para o melhor da música pesada.

This was really great and fresh for me as I don't think I've listened to much (if any) 70's Aerosmith. Don't recognize any of the music but enjoyed it and they have a great sound and not very 70s sounding, i.e., it's aged really well. 8/10.

Good album, never heard any of these tracks before, would listen again

I know it’s one for the purists, but there’s a couple of other Aerosmith albums that could’ve been in the book ahead of this IMO. Lacks a standout single

Rocks...and Rolls. This is the sound of Aerosmith finding their sound and their confidence. This is sex & drugs & rock & roll. It's a little dated now - Especially since it spawned so many imitators - but the 1-2 punch out of the gate of Saddle/Last Child is a force to be second with.

Classic rock that rocks

Short and sweet, really solid classic rock album. Tapers off toward the end but starts super strong with Back in the Saddle and Last Child.

Yea this one is a certified banger

I always enjoy a bit of Aerosmith and this album was no different. They know how to do decent glam rock and it has that classic sound to it. There's some awesome guitar riffs on here too. Highlights: Back In The Saddle Last Child Rats In The Cellar

It was pretty good. I’m a big fan of Aerosmith, but I was expecting a little more. Back in the saddle and last child were great, and I really like sick like a dog. 4/5

A very solid hard rock album, maybe even one of the best front to back. Really strong songs, some virtuoso playing, nothing that sounds bloated, overdone or too long. Is it a stone cold classic? Maybe not. But definitely the best Aerosmith album.

i like it, it’s just not… that special? it’s genre defining and it’s good but i’m not moved by it

I quite enjoyed this one Saved tracks: Last Child, Sick As A Dog, Nobody’s Fault, Home Tonight

A good classic rock album, great opening song. The biggest issue I’ve had with Aerosmith records is they only have a couple great tracks on each album at most. (Though usually no bad ones) I won’t turn this album off, but I’d rather listen to their greatest hits. And there’s no denying their long lasting influence, not just in rock, but when Run-DMC covered “Walk This Way” & Aerosmith worked with them, it changed the way most people listen to music…

Instrumentality and performance are very high level, but the lyrics and melodies are seemingly directionless for more than half of the album. The guitar is very American and the vocals are a bit shrill.

Didn't hit quite as hard as Toys in the Attic but still a dope rock album. Big Aerosmith guy. 4.5/5

This was great. Steven Tyler’s voice is so cool. No stand out songs though.

Very cool album, I’m liking the pattern of classic rock albums that they are usually fairly short in length with no more than 10 songs but they really hit hard. I particularly like the vocalist’s inflection’s on this one and some of the guitar work, it gets a little repetitive in the middle which is the only thing holding me back from giving it 5 stars but I think I will return to this

- Iconic classic rock sound - Cool guitar and vocals - Great soundtrack to rowdy beers - Favorite songs: Back In The Saddle, Sick As A Dog

pretty wicked riffs and sweet shag carpet production but the decadent druggy vibe gets dull after a while

I mean, it's just fun, right? The most shocking part of this album is that this was their 4th album and it came out in '76. These guys have been at it for so long. And, by '76, they pretty much knew what they were about because this is just... well, it's just fun. Nothing absolutely bangs here but there are also zero snoozers. Every track rocks and then some. It's probably the hardest album I've heard from Aerosmith and I'm here for it.

Great album. I’ve heard it before and there’s a lot of great hits on there.

Some classics but a little samey in places. Shame Stephen Tyler may be a c*nt, this review may age badly.

Liked it. Not the greatest album ever but a nice listening experience. 4/5

Cooler guter Rock. Hörenswert.

Ok so classic period Aerosmith, here it is. Much heavier and doesn't have the aging issues Pump does. The missing link between heavy metal and hair metal from the review below is bang on. Still not my thing but it's definitely a good listen. Nothing jumps out at me like Sweet Emotion did, so my go to Aerosmith list of tracks remains short. Good though.

Very good beginning with "back in the saddle", the first few notes really intrigue one. And ending it with "Home Tonight" is very fitting😂

Haven't heard the whole album before! Highlights for me: Back in the Saddle, Last Child, Home Tonight. Loved Home Tonight, had never heard it before!

Rawks. 4 stars.

Solid album. Would definitely listen again!

Great stuff. Starts strong, finishes strong. I've never been a big fan of Aerosmith (in the sense that I know the famous songs, but I've never listened to a full album) but this was great, I will totally come back to this in the future.

I've heard a couple of Aerosmith songs before, certainly, but never listened to an Aerosmith album in its entirety. I can't say I recognise any of the songs here either, but this was a pretty good 70s rock album with a few excellent tracks. However it didn't really stand out that much next to some of the other 70s rock bands, in my opinion. Still a great one though, some good songs for my driving playlist. Favourite: Back In the Saddle

Not as enjoyable as 'Toys in the Attic,' but boy is Aerosmith back in the saddle again. Some solid rocks here. Did I make all the obligatory jokes? A shame Steven Tyler was sleeping with a child at the time and felt the need to write creepily about it in his autobiography years later like a total pervert. His pervertness does give the album some flavor, but after everything, it's kind of a disturbing flavor and I want it out of my mouth. Luckily the album doesn't overstay its welcome, and it's certainly aged better than Tyler has! TLDR: Steven Tyler is a creep, the album is good.

My most fave Aerosmith album - the right balance of rock and melody!

Above avergae rock. Possibly need more listens to fully appreciate it

It's easy to be snobby about this era of hard rock, but for all it's worth, this is a proper good time. Nothing unexpected, but clearly very influential for other bands that would follow in their footsteps. Solid all the way through, and super brisk at 35 minutes. It's an album for a fat car on the way to the gym to lift some heavy weights.

Good, enjoyable album with lots of replayability potential

Classic Aerosmith. I think we take Steven Tyler's voice for granted at this point, but can you imagine hearing it for the first time, back in the 70s? A controlled, disciplined, musical scream? Rating: 4/5 Favorite Track: Last Child. Rock and Funk had a baby

Surprisingly strong. A great record

a classic

The first Aerosmith album I've listened to. I've heard a lot of their songs before but never a whole album experience. It got tight guitar riffs and you can feel that it almost touches on heavy metal at times. Sometimes it even gets a bit funky but it always falls back to it's 70s rock foundation. 4/5 as I don't think it quite reaches a 5. It lacks a certain something that makes it stand above the rest.

Solid as a rock.

Solid outing

Aerosmith has always been the crème de la crème of generic classic rock, and this is no exception.

It's got energy. It's got spunk. What more could you ask for?

It really is an outstanding start with Back in the Saddle and Last Child. Sounds original and a is a great straight rock sound. The rest of the album isn't quite as strong, but is still an exceptional rock & blue sound. Enjoyed.

Music your parent's banged to.

Does what it says

Good, straight to the point rock album.

Like it says on the cover, this album rocks! And very consistently, which wasn't my previous impression of Aerosmith. Every now and then I'm in the mood for this sort of thing, and I'd definitely come back to this album if I was.

More southern rock and metal influence to this Vs other Aerosmith albums. A quick fun listen.

I own this album already, I think it's the bee's knees. You can hear this as the transition from the looser, Stonesier rock of formative Aerosmith to a harder, sleazier sound. There's an unmistakable swagger to some of these tracks - 'Sick As a Dog', 'Back in the Saddle' and 'Nobody's Fault' standout here. Meanwhile, 'Rats in the Cellar' is a hard-driving rocker and 'Home Tonight' points towards a mastery of power-balladry to come. Neat neat neat.

Back in the saddle, Last Child - on the verge of being prog, but continue their rhythm throughout, classics Combination - great layering, beautiful melody Rats in The Cellar, Sick As a Dog - Great lyrics, almost spoken poetry Home Tonight - beautiful, melodic outro Loved the melodies/harmonies, simple, but well constructed classic rock, cool vocals

JAMS, actually more fun than what I previously thought of Aerosmith!

underrated band maybe. funky cool. still kinda mid better than I thought

It bangs along quite nicely

At least one song on this album was perfect for my corporate friendly playlist.

2 nd fave by aero

Amazing Joe Perry guitar and Steve Perry’s vocals are iconic. This isn’t my favorite from Aerosmith but I still enjoy this record.

Note sure when the album ended because aerosmith kept playing and I didn't stop it. Favorite track is "Last Child". Rest of the album was pretty good. All their music has funky edge to it.

Aerosmith are a great band - the Rolling Stones plus a sense of humour. They have some brilliant songs in their repertoire - but their albums are not great. This is solid rock, very good but not special - why is it on this list?

classic aerosmith sound, perhaps not their best album but solid

I kinda liked this more than when they became romantic af

Rock de Aerosmith. Ningún megahit. Un 4.

Back before Steven Tyler became a caricature of himself Aerosmith could deliver some solid music.

Solid rock n roll album!

Hard rock

There’s no denying this is Aerosmith. Each song, you can hear and know exactly who it is, but not in a Nickelback way. This album is, simply put, fantastic rock.

A white-hot slab of blistering rock music with little hint of the embarassingly poppy band your mom liked in the late '90s. Essential.

Great album!

Doesn't get much more American than this. Today America is a shattered land of sissy babies but back in the day Americans were strong and unafraid, and this music captures that cool 70s American energy well, I'd say.

Kinda easy to forget these guys kicked ass once upon a time

Clasaic rock, great riffs great guitar. Some forgettable tracks but overall solid

Unapologetically screamin'

This is great stuff, never listened to this and it felt fresh

Rating: 7/10 Best songs: Back in the saddle, Sick as a dog

There's some RIFFS on this and Tyler's vocals are ridiculous (in a good way of course). Enjoyed this a surprising amount.

5/4/2022 - ALBUM #98 Today's Album: "Rocks" by Aerosmith - Yet another surprising album from the generator, I thought this album would just be what I've grown to expect from Aerosmith, which is masturbatory hair rock with obnoxious vocals and boring instrumentation, but this album is a ton of fun. Coming out in 1976, the hair rock aesthetic of this project feels much more progressive and innovative than many of the late 80s outfits that played this cliché out to death. This is the best the genre has sounded to my ears and it makes it feel intentional that this is pretty much the first album of it's genre that the generator has given me. The solo's are killer, the beats are fantastic, the production is great, and although I don't really care about the lyrics too much, the song writing here is really impressive. A lot of these tracks are full out jam sessions and I love how loose some of the song structures feel. I think Stephen Tyler's vocals here are taking way more of a backseat compared to a lot of their later work and it just makes it feel way more like a band and not just Stephen Tyler and the whatevers. I enjoy when these tracks transition into each other and although the hard rock vibe of this album never really calms down for a ballad, the songs feel pretty diverse still and most of them have a major redeeming quality about them if I begin not liking them. Overall, this album is fantastic and blew my expectations out of the water. Come for the guitar solos and stay for the killer vocals, guitar work, drum beats, basslines, and production. Listen to this one if you can handle some ROCK and if you feel like you never understood why Aerosmith is as beloved as they are. Highlights: Back In the Saddle, Last Child, Rats In The Cellar, Combination, Sick As A Dog, Nobody's Fault, Get The Lead Out, Lick And A Promise, Home Tonight Score: 8/10 The reason they're legends

Solid album

I enjoy the mellow production especially given its a hard rock album. Guitar parts are awesome. Lacks big songs, but enjoyable for a fan of rock music.

Nothing revolutionary and album lacks real highlights but If you break it down it still remains a well done rock album

Well, wasn't that a surprise. Aerosmith does indeed Rocks. I'll be honest, I only really knew the band from their 'MTV-years' and never really had taken the time to listen to their back catalog because of it. Something I wished I knew before I was in my 40's

Solid album, really love the last track.

It's been a long time since I really listened to this band, and I'm very glad I gave this album a complete and thorough listen. I was already familiar with most of these songs, but hearing each track without distraction I am reminded what a great rock band Aerosmith is, and this album is fantastic. Such rockin' energy and creativity and each musician is superb. 70s rock, classic rock, blues rock, and all that, sure, it's a super-crowded space and it was almost all I heard for years growing up in the 70s and 80s -- plus, these days I listen to a much wider variety of music -- but this album still stands out. Very impressive.

Classic. My best friends mom had this album and I remember being introduced to this, toys in the attic, and Lucky Lager.

Already listened to it

Great album…. Big high school hit…played at many of our school dances

As with their other work, it is pretty good.

Hearing full albums & not just the singles has really added to this 1001 journey. Not every Aerosmith song is a classic, but they're pretty consistent. Lyrically, always great.

Obožavan šta rade s gitarom! Ovaj mi nije najdraži njihov, al ne mogu se zasitit tog rock-a 70-ih

Some good songs on here. Opens with a banger and steadily chugs away. 1 or 2 shitters but what can you do. Not amazing as it’s a bit cheesy for me but it’s still not bad

Back in the Saddle - Classic. Last Child - Absolutely slaps. Solid drum groove, amazing intro, allman brother style guitarmony, amazing vocals (obviously). Rats In the Cellar - Really driving beat. Killer guitar. New York City blues. Combination - Love the ride cymbal and fuzz guitar. Sick As a Dog - Nobody's Fault - Not super into it, big ol guitar solo fade out. Get the Lead Out - Syncopation to rock the nation.

Way better than better than my small mind imagined

So many great guitar licks, iconic baselines, Tyler's patented wail, double entendres... 70's rock at its finest. A welcome break from the last few very intellectual albums I was served up. You don't have to think about Aerosmith, it just grabs you and drags you out to have a good time.

Back in the saddle is fun enough. Aerosmith have a better ear for funk and soul type rhythm than most heavy rock bands. Rats in the Cellar is a fun Thin Lizzy style stomper. After these two though, it's not the most exciting album. I feel like Aerosmith are another singles band. The rest of the album is far from bad, but not that exciting.

Classic rock

All of their songs have the same upbeat vibe. Not a complaint.

не ну норм кокчик

A genuinely high quality rock album throughout. I can see why many artists were influenced by this album. Favorites: "Last Child", "Rats In The Cellar", "Nobody's Fault"

80. Rocks - Aerosmith 9 tracks. Considering this goes back to 1976 it's no surprise that it's quite raw, (in a good way). It's punchy as you would expect, but you still see glimpses of Tyler's slowed down vocals/hook that they used to great effect later on. Very good. 👍 4/5

Again, I'm learning how much more I seem to enjoy classic hard rock than I thought. "Back in the Saddle" is an awesome triumphant anthem. I love the teasing intro, the growly bass line, and Steven Tyler's yodeling. "Last Child" gets bluesy and funky, and rhymes "south Tallahassee" with "sweet sassafrassy." You know we got "Rats in the Cellar"? This one is rockin' and chaotic. I like the duet of voices in "Combination." And the rest, as the title says, Rocks. It feels like rock 'n' roll oughta.

I am familiar with Aerosmith, but not this album. I don't believe that I had heard any tune on the album previously. It did sound like Aerosmith...no surprises... Although I don't find myself seeking out an Aerosmith album for a listen all that often, there are a some songs that caught my ear and I am likely to revisit the album in the future.

Better than expected. Early Aerosmith is solid

Like the Aerosmith album… I really like this. My impression has been stained by those awful ballads. This is good straight up rock with tunes!

Nostalgic. Prefer greatest hits albums for Aerosmith. Back in the Saddle is a good opener with a high-tempo glammish sound. Last Child has a really kicking bass rhythm and the vocals, whilst not as impressive as some songs, give it that typical Aerosmith. Rats in the Cellar could be a Guilty Gear BGM. Goods: Back in the Saddle, Rats in the Cellaer Bads:

Fuck me! Aerosmith are a lot older than i realized. Although it seems time hasn't improved their sound. This is actually really decent classic rock. Like the Bluesy rock guitar licks a lot. Less cliched then their later stuff and Tyler's vocal doesn't dominate as much. A surprisingly high 4/5

This album definitely rocks and a lot better than I expected. Not a favourite as the middle of the album dips in quality, especially Nobody's Fault. But the bookends of this (first three, last three songs) were fantastic. Back in the Saddle and Home Tonight were my favourites.

So this is how they rocked before I was born eh? Well, went into this with all kind of biases (blame Love in an Elevator for that) but this is a great album, full of actual rock music rather than screaming anthems. Top stuff.

More twangy from the guitarist than I remember

Just a solid rock record. I enjoyed this one more than "Toys in The Attic". I feel like you can trace the lineage from Led Zepplin to Guns 'n' Roses through this record. Favorite tracks: "Back In The Saddle", "Last Child", "Rats In The Cellar", "Home Tonight"

Cool. Far more consistent quality than Pump

Awesome

Didn’t even know this album existed. Very good!

I hadn’t heard any of the tracks before but it was classic Aerosmith and thoroughly enjoyable !

Good album, didn't know many tracks.

Great album but not Aerosmith’s best work

The same guy that named the Tesla’s S, 3, X and Y must’ve named this album. I get it, Aerosmith Rocks, you are so clever. Unlike the Tesla models, the album name is accurate. Say what you want about Stephen Tyler’s lips, but they breath some great sound into this album that’s otherwise filled to the rim with smash-it-all, balls-to-the-wall rock and roll guitar. It’s hard to identify another mid 70’s alblum filled with so much losely tied cacophony in one spot. In fact, I think this was the last great rock album before the music industry fell in love with glam rock, poodle-heads and power ballads. Though this isn’t a daily listen album, I truly enjoyed the truth in advertising.

More fun and funky than I was expecting. Sounds late 80s so well ahead of it’s time

Wow, I've never considered myself an Aerosmith fan, but I've got to hand it to them here. This is a solid album, full of fun, bluesy, dirty little rockers. It's the stuff the that made Aerosmith famous and is still totally playable today. Perry's licks are perfection and you can feel Tyler's charisma coming right through your speakers. There's a reason these guys have lasted so long. "Back in the Saddle" and "Last Child" rock, full stop, a perfect pair to start this album with. "Nobody's Fault" is surprisingly heavy (both musically and lyrically), love it. "Home Tonight" is a sweet way to close it out, and hints at those juggernaut pop hits we would get from the band in the 80s and 90s. Fave songs: Back in the Saddle, Last Child, Nobody's Fault, Home Tonight

Classic Aerosmith. So much good here.

Not my favorite Aerosmith album, but still solid.

This one really does rock! Good hard punches without overdoing it and some great solos. Rats in the Cellar and Nobody's Fault stand out.

Another classic rock classic.

Aerosmith in the 70s sounds a lot like Aerosmith in the 90s :)

Liked it. Last child fav

Aerosmith has an unmistakable sound and this album show cases it very well. Each song stands alone but contributes to the whole seamlessly. There were more than a handful of times during this album listen that made me perk up and got my attention.

Great rock and roll album! Much better than the pop-rock they produced in the 90s.

all the songs were good lol

i’m a big old fan of classic rock

Buen album de rock. A pesar de no ser gran fan de Aerosmtih, es un álbum bien balanceado.

Of course I've heard their well-known hits plenty of times, but I never listened to an Aerosmith song outside of their hits before today. Turns out it's a lot better than I would have expected! Easy 4

Really enjoyed this. Could tell how they've influenced a hole genre since. 4/5

Very classic rock sound but doesn't really feel like Aerosmith until the last few songs. Overall enjoyable with a strong first half.

So many good songs on this album

Enjoyed this. Good fun. Back in the Saddle and Sick as a Dog standout tracks.

Enjoyed this way more than I expected. Aerosmith usually has hits and shits on their albums. This was pretty solid all the way thru.

Many of these songs were staples of my HS years - especially “Back in the Saddle” which was mandatory pre-game fire-up music for our SW conference football games. “Last Child” was another mixtape favorite. The rest of the album is pretty solid 70s rock n roll: “Nobody’s Fault” - great tune - although “Combination” and “Get the Lead Out”are pretty forgettable tracks. Gotta love the guitars and the plaintive wail of Steven Tyler’s voice on Home Tonight (which was probably the inspiration for “Home Sweet Home” by MogleyvCrue. Anyone else contemplate how “Rats in the Cellar” seems to reference Splinter from the TMNTs?

Aerosmith at their best!

Buen disco de rock con el estilo característico del grupo: buena voz, acordes y acompañamientos de instrumentos. Toques algo sureños y algo de blues, pero mayoritariamente rock. No muchas canciones conocidas, pero igualmente bueno

This is one of the Aerosmith albums I'd never listened to before. This was pretty rocking. I liked it more than most of their recent stuff and better than their first two albums. Very short at about 30 mins so it's a quick listen. There's some tracks I'd be happy to listen to again. Nobody's Fault is a song I'd never heard before. The closing solo is good. Not the best guitar solo I've ever heard but good for them.

Great album, though I would put Toys In The Attic well ahead of this one.

I was expecting to dislike this a lot more than I did. I have some premeditated distaste for Aerosmith, as cheesy bad rock. But I think that must come from distillations of late success band, Steven Tyler being weird, etc. this album rocked hard I loved the clear bluesy licks and rhythms. Still not a fave, but a clear step towards hard rock of the later 70s and 80s that I am more fond of. Way to prove me wrong, Aerosmith!

Back in the Saddle is a jam. I've never listened to a full Aerosmith album, and this was enjoyable for sure. It did feel like a stereotypical 'rock' album, for better or for worse. It did feel sort of like I've heard some of these songs before even though I haven't. Overall fun and would listen to again. Would probably give a 3.5, but rounded up.

Lidt mere klassisk Aerosmith, dog uden hits. Men god album og masser af power

I've always preferred earlier Arrosmith, their first album is one of my favorite albums. So this gets a solid 3 from me.

I wasn’t expecting to enjoy this as much as I did. Solid 70s groove all the way through.

Not bad, but not as good as I would expect from Aerosmith.

A beautiful opening song, Back in the Saddle is really the best of the lot. Hard to believe this song came out in the mid-70's. There are a few good songs on here, but the latter half is just ok. Better to buy the "Best of" album.

Solid rock. Quality stuff. Is it a 4? Maybe I'll return and give it a 4

I still prefer later Aerosmith than their older stuff. But a decent album altogether

Eh, not the best, not the worst.

It is strange but it is not impressive, unfortunately.

Not bad

Not big fan of it

My guitar teacher once said to me that Aerosmith were funky like a New Orleans band, and you can hear it in this album. Guitar riffs that could be horn lines and bass lines that are elastic and groovy. You can also hear the beginnings of glam metal before those bands sucked all the funkiness out. A solid but unremarkable piece of work

Buono ma non il mio genere

Album 228. Rocks (https://open.spotify.com/album/5Uv5LmSKTT9okGkr3l9MjR?si=GuiZBMBiR_iJdooy-K005g) — Aerosmith (1976) Same vibes as it was with their Toys In The Attic album 3/5 Liked: — Back In the Saddle — Rats In The Cellar

I found this to be one of the weaker Aerosmith albums personally. Some good moments, but not enough to elevate this above "Toys in the Attic" or really anything else that was released around this time. Just an OK listening experience.

super mellow 80s rock that was a fun short listen

I've been begging for some classic rock (not obscure Brit shoegazer bands) for awhile and this week delivers Yes & Aerosmith. I am not sure if "Rocks" gets the nod but I see that "Pump" and "Toys In The Attic" are both included as well. "Back in the Saddle" & "Last Child" are the two hits this album is known for and were included on their first greatest hits collection (which I beat to death in high school). After that it's 7 seventies rockers with "Rats In The Cellar" and "Sick As A Dog" standing out from the rest. I thought "Nobody's Fault" sure sounded like a Zep song and you could feel the influence this song must've had on the 80's metal wave. While it's a good album, it's not great from top to bottom. It's not memorable, the firepower is only adequate compared to a number of their other albums and the longevity of this one isn't that strong. 3 stars.

couple of great songs, repetitive after that.

It's a cool 70's glam rock album, starts off with 2 rocking tracks and goes a bit downhill from there. Couple really cheesy tunes but they follow them with some rockers like Nobody's Fault. Tyler's vocal style gets a bit grating for me after a few songs, great for a bit but after 15 or 20 minutes it has worn out it's welcome. The band is tight and they provide some kick ass riffs to rock out too. Glam rockers and 70's hard rock fans should appreciate this one.

Pretty solid classic rock album, learned a few new songs I didn’t know before. 3 stars

Pretty standard sort of stuff. Nothing I particularly liked.

honestly i thought this would be much worse than it is, but instead it strikes me as an album that was probably crazy hard when it dropped in the mid 70s but by this point its like. kind of just lost to the sea of "classic" rock? idk its solid enough, there's a lot of great guitar work and i enjoy the high energy of "rats in the cellar" especially, but i think it kinda suffers from hard rock/heavy metal becoming such overcrowded genres? its definitely above average for it but when there's this much competition i feel like they'd really have to blow me the fuck away to stand out. like, it's not topping paranoid, yknow? im giving this a 3 for now but i will concede that these guys are really fucking good at ending their tracks, and i can already see myself coming back and just flicking thru the last 30 seconds or so of each one, so maybe ill come to appreciate it more with time. or maybe i wont. who can say....

sounds good and clean but that's it. nothing really stood out, almost felt like listening to some generic rock music. this album definitely lacks the distinctiveness you hear in their hit songs.

Starts off strong, but fades to predictability pretty quickly. Not sure we need both this album AND Toys in the Attic, a far superior effort from the group that preceded it.

Dear god another aerosmith? Not as bad as the last one i guess

p363. 1976. 3 stars. In the day, Aerosmith were contenders for the best rock band in the world. This is short, sweet and tight at just 34 minutes. All it's missing are standout tracks.

It’s good. Singer is good. Instruments sound good. But I can’t tell this apart from any other dad rock I’ve heard before.

Third 'classic rock' album in a row and the second from 1976. I didn't mind this. It made for good company in the gym. Solid. Heard before ❌️ Listened this time ✅️ Revisit ❌️ ★★★☆☆ (6/10) Total reviewed : 337 Already owned : 76 Purchased : 16 To buy : 3 Nope : 242

Yeah sure

01) Back in the Saddle - 7,0 02) Last Child - 7,0 03) Rats in the Cellar - 6,5 04) Combination - 6,0 05) Sick as a Dog - 6,0 06) Nobody's Fault - 6,0 07) Get the Lead Out - 5,5 08) Lick and a Promise - 5,5 09) Home Tonight - 6,0 TOTAL: 6,17 (62/100) Current ranking: 689/928

Besides a few good songs, it was just okay. Easy listening.

A classic.

Here's a band with a strong best of collection in my adolescent memory. This album, is not the best of collection, and I felt it very, average.

Ei niin hyvä levy kuin muut, mutta ihan perus hyvää. Back In The Saddle tietenkin kova. Vähän sellasta jykevämpää kampetta. Parhaat: Back In Thw Saddle, Nobody's Fault

decent rock album

Not as great as toys in the attic but I still liked it a whole lot. Some super catchy songs and back in the saddle is a RIPPER

Solid but not as ripping as toys in the attic. Some nice times though

Not bad, not great either. Aerosmith was still an a couple of albums from their prime. There were a couple of gems here but they were still seemingly forming their identity.

6.5/10

Much better than I thought it would be. I'd heard back in the same and last child but there were a few good numbers and a few clinkers.

Gritty bluesy rock. The hits are memorable. The filler is... filler. It's fun to listen to, but immediately fades from memory.

Funky at times. But meh on the whole.

This was fine for me. I’m not a huge rock fan, so this all sounded pretty much the same. 3/5.

Just a kick ass rock and roll record. Nobody’s fault is an amazing song. Never realized how good Aerosmith was. Glad to listen to these classics. 3.5. But not 4.

The start of Hair Metal? Passable album but I'll probably never listen to it again.

6/10 It's fine, but it is not on the same level as Led Zep. It's not even on either of the two below. It misses the invention, I guess, which makes it feel quite a cold, formulaic kind of rock.

Pretty generic, it sounds like other Aerosmith albums but less good. No standout tracks, but I do like this style of guitar music generally

When I was young, maybe 8 years old, I was on vacation with my family in Hawai'i. I was tossing a baseball with my beloved dad on the warm, soft sand of Maui when, as if he were Poseidon himself, I witnessed Steven Tyler in all of his androgynous glory emerge from the sea draped by two gorgeous women on either side of him. My dad, a proud Bostonian and lover of classic rock, noticed him immediately, for how could he not. I recognized him as the guy with long hair who sang the national anthem at Patriots games. Mr. Tyler looked at me and said "hey kid! throw me the ball!", so of course I did. To this day, my love of Steven Tyler is a byproduct of this admittedly awesome experience. My love of Steven Tyler is not, though, a byproduct of his band making genuinely incredible music. Rocks is an easy listen and undoubtedly ahead of its time. That said, the time for which this album is ahead of is not a particularly remarkable one. One would think that this album came out in the '80s, as the meandering laziness of ZZ Top, nails-on-a-chalkboard screeches of David Lee Roth, and glam-metal bullshit of Judas Priest dominated rock airwaves. I have been forced -- against my wishes, to be sure -- to listen to those three "artists" for this project. Their drab performances have been reacted to with appropriate ratings: two stars for Van Halen and one star for ZZ Top and Judas Priest. Sonically, Rocks features many similarities to these other artists. However, it came out in 1976. For its time, it was heavy and probably perceived to be alternative to the pop-oriented, orchestral, and sophisticated psychedelia sounds that emerged after The Beatles called it quits. For that reason, this album is good. Not great, but good. For 1976, it was ahead of its time. And though the time that this album paved a path for was uninspiring and dull, I cannot, in good faith, fault Aerosmith for that. Plus, Dusty Hill nor David Lee Roth played catch with me on a beach in Hawai'i in my childhood. Mr. Steven Tyler of Aerosmith did. Favorite track: Back In the Saddle

After Pump, I was ready to hate this and damn it's pretty good. Not quite the highs of Toys, but solid. Probably 3.5 for me

Eh, it was fine, nothing particularly noteworthy.

This is fine. Again, the list is too classic rock heavy. We don't need to hear Aerosmiths 4th album

Great record. They sound so much more rock on this record than they do in their later year material, which is what I grew up with more during the 90s. Tyler sounds more rugged and badass along with the unique and almost psych instrumentation backing him. Really solid release.

Honestly not bad for hard rock Fav track: Back in the Saddle

nice enough

It's a pretty fun album, but nothing special.

Overall, this was an alright album with not too many popular songs, but I can imagine this coming out in 1976 and being super cool. Nowadays, it is still alright and it's nice leaving it in the background.

it's decent but surprisingly a little too short

Inte min favorit med Aerosmith även om jag gillar 70-tals rocken de spelar. Rats in the cellar var den enda låt jag tyckte stack ut, positivt. Ett nja från mig.

A good album, I liked Last Child the most.

Standard Aerosmith. Camp and glam.

Aerosmith is second-string classic rock, never reaching the heights of many other bands - I'm talking their output in the '70s. As a precursor to '80s hair metal/pop metal, this record is fine. "Back In the Saddle" and "Last Child" are a great 1-2 punch, but the record just fizzles from there.

I hate to admit it…but I enjoyed more than a couple of songs here

Never been a huge fan of Steven Tyler as a vocalist. Still, this was entertaining. Just not enough for me to want to listen to this again per se. 3/5

Forgettable

Another bluesy rock album by white dudes. At least this one kind of rocks. It was good to hear Aerosmith before they became the cheesy ballad band.

It was a good album and they have good guitar. It wasn't as good as others.

This is really rockin' and I appreciate that most of the lyrics don't give me the ick like the last Aerosmith album we had (with the exception of Lick and a Promise, of course they couldn't produce an album without at least one mention of young girls). It didn't do much for me, but the band's talent is on pretty full display here.

Didn't really do anything for me, it was OK I guess

Lekkere wegluistermuziek, niet mega spannend

Why were we out of the saddle?? This is what I needed after the smiths tbh. Morrisey has a singular ability make you feel worthless and lonely snd chungis. Ok man you can stop screaming I get it. I understand. Ur good man I get it. This is kinda annoying. Just making noise. Not much to say it's a good classic rock album. Aerosmith is really good they're here for a reason. Is there a difference to me from every other 70s white guy rock album?? No absolutely not they're genuinely interchangeable. But it's chill. I can still enjoy it. It's probably somebody's fault. Like. Realistically. Get the lead out of what. Favourite: Home Tonight Least favourite: Combination
