Popular Reviews

Queen Of Denmark by John Grant

It is unfathomable to me that this album has multiple 5 star reviews. Poorly written songs with the emotional depth a sidewalk puddle

Slayed? by Slade

Holy shit was this bad! Did I kill an innocent man in a previous life and this is my punishment? I am sorry. I believe after listening to this my penance has been paid in full plus some.

Nevermind by Nirvana
May 08 2025

A top 25 album for me. Top 3 tracks: Endless, Nameless Stay away Breed

The Genius Of Ray Charles by Ray Charles
May 09 2025

Liked the band, really great. Ray Charles playing and voice were very mid.

Are You Experienced by Jimi Hendrix
May 12 2025

Absolutely fantastic. Hendrix is a true master of his craft.

Odelay by Beck
May 13 2025

An interesting combination of electronic and indie style music. Not really good or bad.

Hail To the Thief by Radiohead
May 14 2025

A great Radiohead album. I enjoyed it a lot but like Kid A and Okay Computer more

Dire Straits by Dire Straits
May 15 2025

This is a great album. I knew of Dire Straits, but didn’t realize Mark Knopfler was an absolute master of his craft. This album embodies my opinion that great music no matter the genre is that which makes you feel something.

Talking Timbuktu by Ali Farka Touré
May 16 2025

For an album in a language I do not speak, this completely blew me away, as well as introduced me to several other world artists such as Boubacar Traore(Kele), Oumou Sangare(Ah Ndiya), The Touré-Raichel Collective(Azawade), and Vieux Farka Touré (Slow Jam). A really great into to African music.

Led Zeppelin III by Led Zeppelin
May 17 2025

The blues-y side of Zeppelin really comes out on this one. A great album.

Songs Of Love And Hate by Leonard Cohen
May 19 2025

A very meh album sound like a shit version of Velvet underground.

Talking Heads 77 by Talking Heads
May 20 2025

A good listen enjoyed a lot of these tunes I generally skip over.

Skylarking by XTC
May 22 2025

What a disappointment. I was familiar with some of XTC's work, but outside of the final track, this is an entirely forgettable album.

Beach Samba by Astrud Gilberto
May 23 2025

Really cool Hispanic inspired jazz.

Five Leaves Left by Nick Drake
May 24 2025

I’ve been told how great Nick Drake is by many people. I don’t hear it. Mediocre “poor me” tunes.

The Atomic Mr Basie by Count Basie & His Orchestra
May 25 2025

First Jazz album from this project that I would say I actually like.

Call of the Valley by Shivkumar Sharma
May 26 2025

Seems like the kind of music for studying or yoga. Nice relaxing soundscape.

Maggot Brain by Funkadelic
May 29 2025

Really good loved it. Guitar playing fantastic.

Parachutes by Coldplay
May 30 2025

Very Radiohead-esque. Not I might listen to more of their stuff. It's not as poppy and cliche as I thought it might be.

Horses by Patti Smith
May 31 2025

Good quite liked it.

Suicide by Suicide
Jun 01 2025

Weird early electronic. Meh

Low by David Bowie

This is a fantastic album. It does some really unique things sonically speaking.

Parklife by Blur
Jun 04 2025

Well done Brit pop.

Groovin' by The Young Rascals
Jun 05 2025

Had a couple songs I recognized but a very sub par record.

The Slim Shady LP by Eminem
Jun 06 2025

Darker than I thought. Really hates Kim. Only the one banger.

Harvest by Neil Young
Jun 07 2025

An all time great. Neil You g is a master songwriter.

World Clique by Deee-Lite
Jun 08 2025

90s club/techno. Not bad for what it is. Not really my bag.

Jun 09 2025

Brit hip hop. Not sure how this made the list. As they say in England : Total rubbish.

Pearl by Janis Joplin
Jun 10 2025

A very good album. the passion really comes through. She really belts it out.

Darkness on the Edge of Town by Bruce Springsteen
Jun 11 2025

How disappointing. Is this here solely as a comparison? Letting people know how dog shit a Springsteen album can sound so we appreciate the really good ones?

Go Girl Crazy by The Dictators
Jun 12 2025

Absolute trash. I love punk and this is not good. Rides the line between hair metal riffs and the punk style untrained vocals. In not picking a lane the whole thing blows.

Surf's Up by The Beach Boys
Jun 13 2025

Who knew The Beach Boys could suck this bad? I was surprised when I saw this album pop up today because I’ve never heard of it. After listening, I know why.

Moving Pictures by Rush
Jun 14 2025

I was familiar with about half of these songs, and was happy to find the ones I didn't already know were really good.

Tago Mago by Can
Jun 15 2025

Very unique. Started out very Velvet Underground meets punk. The got really Avant-garde experimental. Not really bad or good. Odd to be to the point.

The Fat Of The Land by The Prodigy
Jun 17 2025

This is an album I’ve heard before. It’s a shame it only has one good track.

Vol. 4 by Black Sabbath
Jun 19 2025

Awesome. Great Sabbath album.

Shaft by Isaac Hayes
Jun 20 2025
The Score by Fugees
Jun 21 2025

One of the best albums ever recorded.

Californication by Red Hot Chili Peppers
Jun 24 2025

I pretty much hate RHCP. This album did nothing to change that opinion. A couple decent song but there is nothing special here. I could definitely have died without ever hearing this one.

Autobahn by Kraftwerk
Jun 26 2025

Early electronic/techno. A lot of experimenting with sounds. Interesting but not really listenable.

The Message by Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five
Jun 27 2025
Natty Dread by Bob Marley & The Wailers
Jun 28 2025

Bob is great this is a great reggae album.

Foo Fighters by Foo Fighters
Jun 29 2025

Good album enjoyed it

Jun 30 2025

I know this well. Classic Wilco. If you like what Wilco does then you like this one.

Rubber Soul by Beatles
Jul 01 2025

Awesome. Lots of great tracks for an album I don’t always consider when I’m in the mood for some Beatles.

A Hard Day's Night by Beatles
Jul 02 2025

Had some decent tracks but nothing incredibly "must listen". Still it's the Beatles so the good ones are still quite good.

Tom Tom Club by Tom Tom Club
Jul 03 2025

This was total garbage. I didn’t need to listen to this before I died. If someone played this for me on my deathbed when it was over I would tell them I wish I had died an hour ago.

Opus Dei by Laibach
Jul 04 2025

I guess this is considered an industrial music must listen. Seemed a bit subpar. Ok just not the hype I’ve heard for so long about it.

Duck Rock by Malcolm McLaren
Jul 06 2025

Interesting 80s hip hop. Different I guess.

Histoire De Melody Nelson by Serge Gainsbourg
Jul 07 2025

Light funk. He talk- sings the whole thing. If you heard one track that’s enough they are all the same. No need to ever listen again.

Transformer by Lou Reed
Jul 08 2025

Lou has a great voice. Really makes fantastic music. It’s not The Velvet Underground but really good.

At Newport 1960 by Muddy Waters
Jul 09 2025

Good Delta blues. It's no BB King but nothing is.

Crazysexycool by TLC
Jul 10 2025

This is absolute dog shit. I yearned for deafness. No idea how anyone could listen to this whole thing at once. I had to break it up into 20 minute segments in an effort to give the whole thing a legitimate chance. All copies of this, physical and digital, should be burned in a fire. I'd rather listen to raccoons mate in the woods.

Red Dirt Girl by Emmylou Harris
Jul 11 2025

Really great voice. However none of these songs really spoke to me.

All Directions by The Temptations
Jul 12 2025

Decent. "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" is a great song but if, like me you've ever heard the Roberta Flack version this pales in comparison to that. The rest of it is pretty good slow jams, but nothing to really write home about.

Heaven Or Las Vegas by Cocteau Twins
Jul 13 2025

Pretty decent album. A unique sound. Nothing here to make me want to come back to it but interesting nonetheless.

The Clash by The Clash
Jul 14 2025

I love the Clash. This is a great album. It’s 3rd in my ranking of Clash albums. Behind London Calling and Sandinista! . That doesn’t mean it’s bad I just like those other two more.

Aftermath by The Rolling Stones
Jul 15 2025
Music for the Masses by Depeche Mode
Jul 16 2025

This was the first DM album I heard sometime around '91. I still really like this album all these years later. A great representation of the synth-pop sound of the time.

Quiet Life by Japan
Jul 17 2025

Ugh. Poorly done. I generally like this style of music but this just isn’t it.

Jul 18 2025

Liked this quite a lot. R&B is not my go to but really liked the passion on this one. He was definitely into it.

Funeral by Arcade Fire
Jul 19 2025

Some decent songs here. Only one really sticks out above the rest.

Ctrl by SZA
Jul 20 2025

If dog shit didn’t just have a smell but also a sound, this would be it.

The Visitors by ABBA
Jul 21 2025

You know all those great ABBA songs you like? This album has none of them. This is a wish.com version of ABBA. Hey ChatGPT make me an ABBA album but make it 65% less interesting so they don’t think we ripped them off.

Head Hunters by Herbie Hancock
Jul 22 2025

This was absolutely fantastic. Really awesome groove driven funky jazz.

Maverick A Strike by Finley Quaye
Jul 23 2025

Interesting reggae sound just ok nothing particularly special about this.

Black Sabbath by Black Sabbath
Jul 24 2025

I’ve only listened to this album about 1000 times before so…yeah this is a great one. Love to hear that blues influenced sound with Ozzy’s haunting lyrics.

Figure 8 by Elliott Smith
Jul 26 2025

Sad lyrics paired with surprisingly up beat music considering the lyrical content. This is a great Elliot Smith album. Loved to find that he was on the list.

The Specials by The Specials
Jul 27 2025

Good enough not particularly good. Not particularly bad.

Master Of Puppets by Metallica
Jul 28 2025

This is a fantastic album. Metallica before they sucked.

Metallica by Metallica
Jul 29 2025

As dismissive I am of Metallica post ..And Justice for All, this album has some really fantastic tracks. I should put this album back into rotation.

Aug 06 2025

Just okay.

Frank by Amy Winehouse
Aug 07 2025

Terrific voice, music is meh.

Truth by Jeff Beck
Aug 08 2025
Porcupine by Echo And The Bunnymen
Aug 11 2025

Good stuff, not like some of the later more refined EAB stuff, still quite good.

Music From Big Pink by The Band
Aug 13 2025

A lot of it kind of has a gospel choir sound mixed with a Country/Bluegrass sound. Some other songs sound more like folk music. Pretty cool.

Low-Life by New Order
Aug 14 2025

Has a lot in there, remnants of Joy Division, Bits that sound like The Cure, bits that sound like Depeche Mode, and the classic sound of what new order is.

Manassas by Stephen Stills
Aug 15 2025

I can't remember the last time I was this bored by music. It's like someone challenged him to write 21 versions of the same song. This is the white rice of music. Not good not bad, just boring AF.

Fear Of A Black Planet by Public Enemy
Aug 16 2025

I was there when this was released, I have a good understanding of it's cultural importance, but the music is just meh.

Moon Safari by Air
Aug 18 2025

I’m not much for this type of music. Atmospheric. Chill. Just ok.

Gasoline Alley by Rod Stewart
Aug 20 2025

Why is this on here? There are Rod Stewart albums that are actually good.

Bitte Orca by Dirty Projectors
Aug 22 2025

ugh what have you done to my ears?

Siembra by Willie Colón & Rubén Blades
Aug 25 2025

meh

All Mod Cons by The Jam
Aug 27 2025

Brit pop at its most mundane.

Hms Fable by Shack
Aug 28 2025

More Brit pop. I’m not sure any of it is very interesting.

Ragged Glory by Neil Young & Crazy Horse
Aug 29 2025

Good solid Neil Young

Poo poo.

Fever To Tell by Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Sep 03 2025

Good stuff. Love a punk band with a female vocalist.

Bone Machine by Tom Waits
Sep 05 2025

Awesome. No skip album.

The Bends by Radiohead

I love Radiohead. This is an absolutely fantastic album.

D by White Denim

Weird sort of 60s vibe. Not particularly good or interesting.

Safe As Milk by Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band
Sep 18 2025

Really cool. Loved it.

Sep 23 2025
Raising Hell by Run-D.M.C.
Sep 24 2025

Classic Hip Hop. Good fun stuff

Exit Planet Dust by The Chemical Brothers
Sep 26 2025

Repetitive AF. I guess if you like techno/electronic it might be appealing, some of it has a nice groove.

Casanova by The Divine Comedy
Sep 28 2025

Grand idea but execution was not there.

Daydream Nation by Sonic Youth
Sep 30 2025

What a great album, I have always loved Sonic Youth and felt they were underappreciated in their time. Really started the whole shoegaze thing. What they do sonically is really unique. They aren't all winners but the ones that hit are so good.

Among The Living by Anthrax
Oct 02 2025

Some pretty good tunes here. I was expecting less from what I assumed was thrash. Some great tracks here. Pleasantly surprised.

Kilimanjaro by The Teardrop Explodes
Oct 03 2025

Coat Of Many Colors by Dolly Parton

Bookends by Simon & Garfunkel
Oct 09 2025
Elephant by The White Stripes
Oct 10 2025

Not a whole lot of interesting here. Another album on the list for a single song. Overall disappointing.

Oct 12 2025

I’m coming to find I just don’t like jazz. It just doesn’t do it for me.

Fragile by Yes
Oct 13 2025

Yes is under-rated I feel like they have a ton of great music and aren't as well known as other groups with the same amount of good stuff.

Parallel Lines by Blondie
Oct 14 2025

Great voice from Debbie Harry. really liked this one.

Oct 17 2025

This was so close to being fantastic. The tempo on some of these was so slowed down that it took away the enjoyment. It waws still a really good album, just not quite top tier.

Different Class by Pulp
Oct 22 2025

Just another non-descript brit-pop album. It's not bad, just indistinguishable from any other 90s Brit pop album from any other Brit pop group.

Isn't Anything by My Bloody Valentine
Oct 23 2025

The meh-est of all mehs.

Oct 24 2025

Really great and I'm really one for hip-hop/rap most of the time. A lot of diverse sounds with all the features in here.

The Man Machine by Kraftwerk
Oct 28 2025

Not great, electronic music is hard to make interesting. That is the case with this one.

En-Tact by The Shamen
Oct 29 2025

This is horrible. Please make it stop!!!!!!

Timeless by Goldie
Oct 30 2025

Booooo!!!!

Oct 31 2025

This is average at best, would have been better to just have Skylarking on the list and call it good. This album is padding to get to 1001.

You Are The Quarry by Morrissey
Nov 02 2025

The king of whiners and pretentiousness still has it. He does have a pretty great voice.

Boy In Da Corner by Dizzee Rascal
Nov 03 2025

I liked this quite a bit, just not enough to break the 3 star ceiling

The Wall by Pink Floyd
Nov 04 2025

An absolutely iconic rock album. Pretty much perfect.

Nov 05 2025

What an incredible voice. Love the depth of the lyrics. A lot of very interesting things done musically as well.

Phrenology by The Roots
Nov 06 2025

Rio by Duran Duran
Nov 08 2025

Good. A real classic from my youth.

This Is Fats Domino by Fats Domino
Nov 11 2025

Wow this was really fun. You sometimes need to be reminded that rock and roll should be fun. Too many people taking themselves way too seriously.

Purple Rain by Prince
Nov 21 2025

Not what I remember from when I was younger. Still some really great tunes

The Rising by Bruce Springsteen
Nov 23 2025

Hello this is Bruce Springsteen, I know you'll get this album based on who I am, I no longer have to make good music. I'm so popular I've been making money with mediocre tunes for over a decade now. Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

A classic. Great stuff

Dry by PJ Harvey
Dec 08 2025
Haunted Dancehall by The Sabres Of Paradise

Dec 21 2025

Interesting concept but overall too high concept with little pay of music-wise

Green by R.E.M.
Dec 22 2025

Dec 25 2025

Always have been a fan of Siouxsie's voice, it takes what might be a mediocre album to fantastic.

At Fillmore East by The Allman Brothers Band
Dec 27 2025

Kind of a proto jam band or proto prog vibe. I feel if I'd been on drugs this would have been sick.

Headquarters by The Monkees
Dec 28 2025

At least it's only 30 minutes long.

Appetite For Destruction by Guns N' Roses

A lot of songs that bring back memories of Early HS years. As much as I want to hate on it because if Axl Rose i Can't its really good

Not bad for a genre I don't generally care for.

Faith by George Michael
Feb 01 2026
The Band by The Band

Feb 05 2026

Who cares? It's not interesting. Over an hour of music with 2 decent songs.

Green River by Creedence Clearwater Revival
Feb 06 2026

What a great album. 29 minutes of incredible Southern Rock. Bluesy rock and roll for the win.

Buffalo Springfield Again by Buffalo Springfield
Feb 08 2026

It's a decent album with exactly 1 good track. That doesn't really constitute an album worth listening to before I die. The longer I get into this project the more I realize there are way too many albums included in the 1001 that have a singular track worth hearing.

Butterfly by Mariah Carey
Feb 09 2026

What uninspired trash. Incredible vocal range but this is garbage.

Decent album. Very funky. Summer Breeze cover was cool but nothing special.

The Köln Concert by Keith Jarrett
Feb 19 2026

"Bro, I'll just make it up as I go" is no way to make an album. It's truly uninspiring music. He is a talented piano player but it's so repetitive. No thank you.

Queens of the Stone Age by Queens Of The Stone Age
Feb 20 2026

Unfortunately, this was chosen over Songs for the Deaf. This is an okay album but SFtD is more representative of what QOTSA are.

Machine Head by Deep Purple

For a 37 minute run time this was a solid record.

Vanishing Point by Primal Scream
Mar 04 2026

This was not what I was expecting from a band with this name, I was pleasantly surprised.

Fishscale by Ghostface Killah

Good stuff a lot more soul to it than what I expected from the album cover.

Mar 27 2026

Suzanne Vega by Suzanne Vega
Mar 30 2026

An angelic voice.

White Blood Cells by The White Stripes
Mar 31 2026

It’s the white stripes, Jack White is good at guitar. I don’t get the hero worship. It’s good enough but kinda meh except for the one song.

Alien Lanes by Guided By Voices
Apr 03 2026

Run of the mill indie.

xx by The xx
Apr 04 2026

Let's Stay Together by Al Green
Apr 18 2026

Every time I encounter some soul I really like it.

Scott 2 by Scott Walker
Apr 20 2026

Sounds like he's trying to do some sort of bullshit Tony Bennett/Neil Diamond impression.

Entertainment by Gang Of Four
Apr 22 2026

A great example of the transition from the punk era to post punk. Iconic band of the genre.

Pelican West by Haircut 100
Apr 23 2026

How much mindless brit pop do I have to endure on this list. My god.

Rip It Up by Orange Juice
Apr 24 2026

Another album, that had a single track worth listening to. That one song was just ok not worth the "must listen to before you die" classification, and when you take the album as a whole it's pathetic and completely forgettable.

Debut by Björk
Apr 28 2026

Incredible voice. There are 3 different genres of music here, showing her range.

Slayed? by Slade
Apr 30 2026

Holy shit was this bad! Did I kill an innocent man in a previous life and this is my punishment? I am sorry. I believe after listening to this my penance has been paid in full plus some.

Deja Vu by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young
May 02 2026

This album is great. Nearly a five. Came up just short.

Goo by Sonic Youth
May 04 2026
Jazz Samba by Stan Getz
May 05 2026

This list is trying to get me to like Jazz. I liked this better than most, Jazz is just not my thing I guess.

Meat Is Murder by The Smiths
May 07 2026

Subpar. Even when compared to other Smiths albums this one is boldly mediocre.

John Prine by John Prine
May 08 2026

This was so much better than what I was expecting.

Aja by Steely Dan
May 09 2026

Grooving bass lines and great lyrics.

Gold by Ryan Adams
May 11 2026

It's son descript and boring.

Dare! by The Human League
May 14 2026

They wrote a synth pop anthem that defined the genre. Unfortunately the rest of the album is ass.

Play by Moby
May 16 2026

Sort of ambient chill techno.

NEU! 75 by Neu!
May 17 2026

Why would you make me listen to this? That's just mean.

Vivid by Living Colour
May 22 2026

Remember when they had just one decent song? And some dickhead decided to include the whole-ass album that contained that song on a list of albums I should listen to before I die? That guy has wasted so much of my time. What a prick!

Dookie by Green Day
May 23 2026
Slanted And Enchanted by Pavement
May 24 2026

You can hear bits a pieces of al kinds of stuff in here but never really came together.

Made In Japan by Deep Purple
May 25 2026

Really kind of a jam band feel to it. Nobody likes 8 min long drum solos. Keyboard solo, why? I have a guitar and bass If I want to listen to someone noodling mindlessly I can do it myself. Still some good musicianship.

S&M by Metallica
Jun 01 2026

The concept is pretty cool, but it 2+ hours was overkill. It could have been better as a shorter album.

Lost In The Dream by The War On Drugs
Jun 09 2026

This was awesome. I was unfamiliar with this group and this was great.

Oedipus Schmoedipus by Barry Adamson
Jun 11 2026

It's all just quite un-interesting. The concept of a soundtrack for a non-existent movie is an odd concept but most of it felt like filler.

Konnichiwa by Skepta
Jun 13 2026

UK hip hop, not good.

Exodus by Bob Marley & The Wailers
Jun 20 2026
Connected by Stereo MC's
Jun 22 2026

I can't understand why so many albums with a single good song made this list. Frankly it's infuriating. But this at least had the one good song. In contrast to the albums that somehow made the list despite sucking from start to finish.

Rust Never Sleeps by Neil Young & Crazy Horse
Jun 23 2026

Really great, Neil Young doing his thing.

In Utero by Nirvana
Jun 24 2026

Pictures At An Exhibition by Emerson, Lake & Palmer
Jul 29 2026

Aug 01 2026

OG gangster rap. Crazy to think this was controversial back in the day. Timid by todays standards. intersesting.

Odessa by Bee Gees
Aug 06 2026

Good lord. This is why people hate the Bee Gees. I'd rather listen to a horse being castrated.

Nebraska by Bruce Springsteen
Aug 07 2026
Tuesday Night Music Club by Sheryl Crow
Aug 09 2026

Another album on the list that had the one popular song. That song was catchy but not really good, rest of it was entirely mid.

Will The Circle Be Unbroken by Nitty Gritty Dirt Band
Aug 13 2026

Lots of old style country goodness. nothing really stands out and was all very same-y

Aug 14 2026

I was surprised how much I liked this. It had a lot of electronica elements in it that I don't usually go for but this was really good.

Aug 15 2026

A couple of above average songs but mostly it's the music equivalent of luke-warm oatmeal.
