Not the voice for me lol
the first punk record so far! actually its got a more stadium heavy/alt metal feel. great cover of war pigs. its just not really my jam, its just too close to bad religion without actually being bad religion. like the mass market version
Cheap Chilis
Hummm, je ne suis pas certain de cet album… pas braiment genre et ma chanson prefere est une de Black Sabbath… 2.75
pssh
I love this album. I loved it in 1990 and I love it now.
Wow, this came out in 1989? Obviously a huge influence for nu-metal bands of the '00s like Disturbed, Godsmack, Korn, etc. Man, just seeing names like Atreyu and Ill Nino on the wikipedia is throwing me way back. For what they're doing, this sounds good. But it's not a type of music that I enjoy at album's length. Alex was always more of the nu-metal, headbanger guy when we were younger. I like the hits, but metal is the one genre that I have a hard time connecting with. I did like the "War Pigs" cover, that's the second Black Sabbath cover we've had on an album so far. Really looking forward to the day Paranoid actually shows up on this list. Favorite tracks: War Pigs, Epic, Woodpecker from Mars. Album art: I do dig this cover. What are we looking at, is that a bottlecap on fire? No, it can't be, it looks like milk. The text at the top is great, very bold. Also there's a vinyl cover shown on wikipedia that's an expanded, even cooler version of this. 2.5/5
Nice
Scrubbing through to catch up... I hate this. I never really liked Epic as a signal but this other music is just not or me.
Wait, you're telling me that Epic is the band's most popular song when it's the biggest dud on this album? I... I don't get it. The rest of the album bangs hard, but Epic completely kills off the early momentum. You slot it into spot four or five on the album, then maybe it works, but it's not a track two. No way. Five stars despite this ludicrous oversight.
Oh man. I love this band. I liked them for years but never went full convert until the 2000s. While this album undoubtedly spawned some terrible other bands, I still look at it specifically as a gateway record for me to get into alternative music. They had a top 20 album BEFORE Nirvana, which I think provided a real blueprint for weird, heavy, melodic music to find commercial success in the midst of hair metal mania. (For better or worse.) That said, it’s in no way my favorite Faith No More record and Mike Patton’s voice is so nasally and whiny in places here I wonder if he himself can even believe he made that choice. Still, I love “From out of Nowhere,” “Zombie Eaters,” and “Woodpecker from Mars.” And in 2015 I saw them and Refused play an outdoor show in Raleigh on a perfect sweaty night and you know what? “Epic” fucking ruled right down to the somber ending, which is one of only about three things I kinda know how to play on the piano.

Too loud for my taste
not a huge fan
An absolute masterpiece
Not my think and very dated but it works ok.
It was OK.
Classic album
Wew
Kinda generic, couldn't connect
Not really my vibe all that often but it's good for what it is.
respect
high energy, good melodies, fun to listen to
Not a bad rock album.
Not great; not terrible
Good rock/rap album, I feel like they started this genre. it's not something I ever listened to outside of Rockband.
3.5
Sommige platen nog veel beter dan het typische Faith no more dat ik kende, top album.
I kind of hate this album, but I try not to give a 1 unless there are no redeeming qualities that I can see, and I have to admit that the last track was kind of cool, so I'm giving it a really soft 2. Really, though, this sucks. Best track: Woodpecker from Mars
Pretty nuts that this was released in 89, feel like this record inspired a lot of bands. I remember reading Slash's autobiography and he said this album was the shit when it came out. A cavalcade of genres blended expertly, with one of the wildest vocalists. Only complaint is the keyboards sound dated as hell. Favorite tracks: "Surprise! You're Dead!", "Zombie Eaters"
I may have tainted my listen a little by learning of Faith No More's relationship to the Chili Peppers as I began to play it. As I recently discovered, I'm one of the people who can't stand the latter band, and so as The Real Thing played I kept coming back to the idea "RHCP but good". At least, better. I'm still not a huge fan. The reasons for that seem pretty small, but they're consistent across the record. First, the electronic sounds come across as incredibly dated, and not in an endearing way. Come to think of it, I'm not sure that I've ever liked old synths on a rock record. The above point is also assuming that the strings are synth strings; They sure sound like it. Second, I'm not a fan of Patton's vocals. Besides those things, though, there's a high-energy blend of styles played pretty well. Not well enough to get over my objections on first listen, but my impression has already moved from the very low bar of the Chili Peppers to better-than-middling.
Was very pleasantly surprised by this one. Didn't expect it to be nearly as good. 7.5-8/10
1989: Epic
3-3.5.... this was really interesting. lots of sounds!
i liked it, although it's a bit too lengthy for my tastes but overall, fairly nice listen, casimir pulaski day is really fun to listen to
I'm not much of a metal fan but lucky for me this has an alternative/pop appeal packed in it. And it rips. I think everyone can get behind this one. Decent 9/10.
It's ok, I don't really like the sound of this type of music.
always a fav
lol I listen to this album probably at least 2-3 times a week, along with King for a Day. Amazing band, and this is their best album. Just riff city, awesome funky basslines, Patton doing his thing at the peak of youth voice. And tbh Epic is the worst track - the rest is so much better, but even that song is still great haha. I love it when an album actually deserves to be on the list! 5/5.
Listened to probably half but it was pretty good.
Just a bit dreary and ordinary really. Clearly influential. But not of anything I particularly like.
I really enjoyed this… more than I expected!
