Really great album.

4/5
Almost. 4.5 out of 5.

Great album.

Aimee Mann
2/5
Not something I’d listen to again. Not particularly bad, but nothing that stands out.

2/5
Not my thing at all. I thought I’d never make it as a singer because my voice was bad. After listening to this I’m not so sure. 🤣

Some classic tracks from my youth on here. Always worth a listen even though some tracks take it down slightly from a 5.
Butthole Surfers
2/5
My house mate used to play this all the time while at Uni. It’s ok, but not something I’d put on by choice
Air
5/5
Great album. Reminds me of working nights at a TV studio and playing that in the background while working.
Led Zeppelin
5/5
Great album. Nicely different from the others, but still classically Led Zep.
Wire
3/5
Not really listened to this one before and really enjoyed it. Early punk vibes.
CHIC
3/5
Pretty good at what it is. Not something I’d really go for though. I was surprised it was 1978. I’d have thought it was earlier.
Machito
3/5
Not bad at all for some Latin beats.
Charles Mingus
2/5
Not totally bad, but goes a bit random jazz on you during most tracks, so not my bag baby!
The Isley Brothers
2/5
Undoubtably talented, but just not my thing at all.
Billie Holiday
2/5
Background music to some high class department store. Easy listening, but not cream muzak for lifts. Not my thing though.
Elvis Costello
2/5
Not particularly bad. Just pretty ordinary.
Led Zeppelin
5/5
Another great album by Led Zep. A double album that doesn’t drop off at any point.
The Zombies
3/5
Just how you’d expect a Zombies album to sound. Pop Psychedelic 60s.
Joy Division
5/5
A classic. Teenage angst listening at its finest.
Michael Jackson
4/5
You feel a bit guilty liking this album after the revelations of his private life, but I still think it stands up as one of the best pop albums ever due to its stand out tracks.
Shame there are a couple that I skip over every time though
Sly & The Family Stone
2/5
Ok. I wouldn’t put it on though.
Abdullah Ibrahim
1/5
Straight, middle of the road Jazz. Not for me at all.
Femi Kuti
2/5
Jazzy funky Afro beat music. Perfectly ok, but I wouldn’t listen to it.
Stand out tracks are No Shame and Live For Today
Eels
5/5
Love this album. Great at the time and still sounds great.
Billy Bragg
3/5
First half was Billy at his best, rough and raw. Second half let it down a bit.
Nick Drake
5/5
Wow. Loved this. Obvious comparisons with Belle & Sebastian, but wished I’d found this a long time ago.
Play on repeat!
The Icarus Line
2/5
Sounds like the worst bits of Suicide and Death from Above combined. I like both of those, but this isn’t great.
Donovan
2/5
Interesting that the album that supposedly started flower power and the hippy revolution and influenced so many, now sounds tame by comparison to many albums that came after of a similar type.
I usually like this genre, but didn’t particularly like this one. Too middle of the road for me.
Frank Ocean
1/5
Yeuch! Eew!
R&B & that’s all I need to say.
Paul Simon
3/5
As you’d expect from Paul Simon. Some decent tracks, but most is middle of the road stuff. Definitely dated by the 80s sound.
The Rolling Stones
3/5
Not bad. Worth another listen.
Mj Cole
1/5
Sunday afternoon R&B for people who don’t want to listen to anything outside their comfort zone.
Hypocritical perhaps, but meh!
The Cure
4/5
Not their best album, but deserves 4/5 just for ‘A Forest’.
Beatles
3/5
Not one of their best but a decent album anyway.
Stephen Stills
2/5
Country fair. Not something I’d bother listening to, but don’t actively hate it.
Caetano Veloso
3/5
Brazilian 60s pop. Not bad really.
The Chemical Brothers
3/5
A couple of good stand out tunes - Setting Sun and Where Do I Begin. Prefer some of their later albums to this one.
John Lee Hooker
2/5
An album mostly of collaborations, with most of them sounding how you think they would given who he’s collaborating with on that track. Not his best.
Beatles
2/5
It was ok. What you’d expect really. I prefer their later stuff.
Jazmine Sullivan
1/5
Dear God no.
Aerosmith
2/5
Not as awful as I thought it would be. Still not a keeper though.
The Pharcyde
1/5
Bobbins
2Pac
1/5
Nope.
Public Enemy
2/5
My housemate used to listen to this while we were at Uni. Never really got into it, but I’ve heard worse.
The Gun Club
3/5
Not bad at all. Worth a deeper dive into their other albums.
Le Tigre
3/5
Not too bad. Some good tunes worth another listen.
Gorillaz
3/5
Not bad, but not great. The two obvious stand out tracks, but the rest are so-so
New Order
4/5
Listen to this a lot when it was released. Some brilliant tracks but one or two that stop it being a full 5.
Steely Dan
2/5
Listened to it and then completely forgot about it. So obviously wasn’t so bad that I noticed, but also not good either
Van Halen
2/5
Instantly forgettable average rock.
Mike Ladd
3/5
Thought I wouldn’t like this but it wasn’t bad at all. Decent rap with overtones of Disposable Heroes.
Sarah Vaughan
2/5
Shmm-bop-a-dee-do-wap-a-pa-dee-do-be-daa.
Amusing part in it when the song goes wrong and not bad overall, but I’ll probably never listen to it again.
The Doors
5/5
Love this album. Absolute classic.
Pink Floyd
3/5
Not bad at all really. Have heard it before but never really paid attention. However, it’s nothing more than average really imho.
2/5
The strings in the background of Wonderwall make it a classic track, but the rest just sounds like Liam whinging and wining on about something or other.
Massive Attack
4/5
Decent album with some memorable tunes. Don’t think I’d skip any either.
Jerry Lee Lewis
2/5
Just what you’d expect. Probably amazing at the time.
Living Colour
3/5
Nothing against them, but seems middle of the road rock. Not bad though and would listen again. I already own another of their albums
The Crusaders
3/5
Who knew Street Life was a 9 minute epic. Decent album overall.
Bill Evans Trio
2/5
A bit of jazz with a bit of swing. Goes off into free form sometimes which doesn’t go well with my brain. My brain likes patterns.
Johnny Cash
4/5
Some really good tracks on here, particularly Hurt. I love the original and this cover is just as good.
Some lame duffers later on, but pretty good overall.
The Byrds
1/5
Religious nonsense with bad country music
Gil Scott-Heron
3/5
Give it an average three because the link didn’t work and I couldn’t find it.
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
4/5
Some great tracks. Great lyrics as ever from Nick Cave.
Some tracks reminded me of early Pogues - not a bad thing at all.
3/5
Some half decent songs, but not the best by their own standards.
Fairport Convention
4/5
Pretty good. Not quite sure what I was expecting really, but quite liked it and worth another listen.
Norah Jones
4/5
Lovely album. One for a nice sunny day.
The Police
5/5
Love this album for start to finish. Bought it for my dad when I was a kid and managed to record it to tape before his birthday, but had to remember not to play it in front of him until after his birthday.
Great tunes right the way through. Highly polished and well produced.
Herbie Hancock
3/5
Not bad. Easy listening background. It was ok and harmless, but not something I’d actively listen to.
Devendra Banhart
3/5
Not bad. Definitely worth another listen.
Ryan Adams
3/5
I’ve listened to a few of his albums and I reach the same conclusion each time. There are a couple of really good tracks and I really want to like the rest, but he disappears into self indulgent songs that aren’t really for anyone but himself.
Started out a possible 4 but ended up a low 3. If it carried on it how it was going it would have been a 2.
X-Ray Spex
3/5
It was ok. I’ve heard a hell of a lot worse, but no really memorable tracks.
Roxy Music
3/5
Not bad. Never really listened to Roxy Music much before. Would listen again, but wouldn’t buy it.
Kendrick Lamar
1/5
Average rapping with average R&B. Instantly forgettable.
Buck Owens
1/5
Old country. Not my genre at all. Sorry.
The Who
3/5
Their first album as The Who and the music is more mod-pop, before they started sounding a little edgier. I prefer their later albums towards the end of the 60s and onwards, but this still has some good tracks
Bruce Springsteen
3/5
Standard Bruce Springsteen in my opinion. Always a couple of good tracks, some not, the rest just average.
Elvis Costello
2/5
Ok as background music, but nothing that stands out.
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
4/5
It’s a grower. Gets better as it goes on as well, so I guess I prefer The Lyre of Orpheus more than Abattoir Blues
Tunes are what you’d expect from Nick Cave. Enjoyed it.
Bob Dylan
3/5
The best Dylan album I’ve heard so far, but that’s not many at all. A couple of decent tracks and not the obvious ones.
Willie Nelson
2/5
Country isn’t my thing at all, but this was pretty mellow and easy going. A bit repetitive imho.
Keith Jarrett
3/5
Not bad really. Not something I’d listen to generally, but listened all the way through and was impressed.
Malcolm McLaren
3/5
Pretty much what you’d expect from 80s Malcolm McLaren. He led the way on many ways, but his own offerings were never as good as the work of others he produced.
It’s an ok album to have on in the background, but doesn’t grab your attention in any way.
Bob Dylan
2/5
Not my type of thing and just got really bored by the end. Who knew the original ‘To Make You Feel My Love’ was so bad.
Suede
3/5
Not bad at all. Some really popular tunes that stand out, but the overall production on their songs always seems a bit tinny.
Leonard Cohen
3/5
Not bad. Music is nice and mellow. Lyrical structure is quite formulaic throughout, rso can be a little repetitive, but it’s ok overall.
Earth, Wind & Fire
2/5
Listened to it all the way through, but have pretty much forgotten about it already.
Not up to much in that case
Madonna
3/5
Better than I thought it was going to be. Electronics influence is good.
The Lemonheads
5/5
This was probably the best album in their progression towards more mellow tunes.
At the time it was probably an album by a traditionally grunge band that your parents wouldn’t mind you putting on.
Loved it at the time and still remember all the words.
Little Simz
3/5
Not bad actually. Didn’t think I’d like it, but it was pretty decent and probably a grower.
The Saints
2/5
Quite Ramonesy. Not a suprise given the year it was released. Some good tracks, but too many throw away ones for me
k.d. lang
2/5
It’s not offensive or anything, but not my cup of tea.
The Fall
3/5
Not sure why this one is on the list. Not even the best Fall album.
I’ve a love/hate relationship with The Fall. They could make some good tunes, but Mark could be a total arse at times. RIP fella.
LCD Soundsystem
3/5
Just ok really. Not something I’d put on, but wouldn’t necessarily turn it off either.
Belle & Sebastian
5/5
An old favourite. Love their lyrics and simple sounding, but complex melodies. A great album.
Guided By Voices
2/5
Loads of instantly forgettable 2 minute offerings. Not worth your time really. I’ve heard worse music so gains an extra star for that reason only.
Echo And The Bunnymen
3/5
Some really good tunes and some fillers. I liked them at the time, but I don’t think they ever did an album full of great tunes.
Rod Stewart
2/5
Not awful by any means, but not my thing at all.
Beastie Boys
5/5
Great album. Some really addictive beats. Some Beastie albums are hit and miss for me, but this is a classic.
Kraftwerk
4/5
I love Kraftwerk, but some of this isn’t their best, some of it is.
The Black Crowes
2/5
Pretty average really. Middle of the road rock soon to be included on every ‘driving’ compilation
3/5
Some good standout tracks. One of his better albums in my opinion, but where Bowie is concerned I’ve never really been able to get into his music fully. There’s always a good track or two on each album, but the rest just doesn’t grab me.
Japan
4/5
Some great tracks on here. Ahead of their time and way better than their rock beginnings.
Thelonious Monk
2/5
They’re all undoubtedly talented musicians, but this just isn’t for me boo bop shada boo wop pop pop pe do.
At least this is musical and unlike some feral cats have been chucked in the school music room like some jazz.
Apologies jazz fans.
Pulp
2/5
Was ok at the time, but sounds really dated now, particularly lyrically.
Gillian Welch
2/5
Not really my sort of thing at all, but no bad as far as this genre goes.
The Streets
2/5
Sounds a bit dated now. A couple of tracks were fresh and ok at the time. Just sounds a bit juvenile these days.
Missy Elliott
1/5
Not my genre at all. Skipped through the tracks rather than listened and nothing stood out at all. Everything sounded pretty much the same, but that’s probably just me not getting on with this type of music
Dexys Midnight Runners
2/5
I remember when this album came out and Come on Eileen was number 1 and on tv all the time. I found it really annoying at the time and the rest of the album isn’t a lot better.
OutKast
1/5
I think that the way you rate an album sometimes has outside influences. For instance last night I hardly got any sleep at all, however this pile of trash would still receive less than one star had I slept for a week. Over 2 hours of garbage.
No thanks and never again.
The National
4/5
Quite a surprise. Pretty good album all told. Vocally it reminded me of The Swans. Will listen again.
William Orbit
2/5
It was ok. I’ve heard a lot worse, but it sounds a bit dated now.
D'Angelo
1/5
Schmoov futhermucker. Never been my thang.
Red Hot Chili Peppers
4/5
Really got into the Chilli Peppers around the time of Mothers Milk. This was another good album of a bit more mainstream. Awesome live band.
The Pogues
4/5
Used to listen to this in school, mainly for the swearing, but it’s always been a good album. Some great tracks.
James Taylor
3/5
Surprised by this. Didn’t know what to expect at all, but pleasantly surprised and will definitely listen again.
Incredible Bongo Band
2/5
Basically it’s covers with Bongos in the background and brass covering the vocals.
It’s ok. They’ve picked some decent tunes to cover, but it gets a bit dull after a while.
The Blue Nile
2/5
Very middle of the road. Not something I’d listen to again and very dated by the 80s sound.
Arcade Fire
3/5
Pretty middle of the road. Not bad, but not really gripping either. Some decent melodies at times.
Prince
4/5
Obviously a couple of cracking tracks on here. The rest is pretty good too, only one or two below average. All the usual Prince style that you’d expect that makes it obviously him.
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
4/5
Another solid Nick Cave album. I’ve not recently listened to many until recently and they’re all decent.
Soul II Soul
2/5
Didn’t really listen to it all the way through because a Uni friend played it constantly when it came out. Middle of the road, easily listening soul in my opinion. Not something I want to listen to.
The Prodigy
5/5
A monster album with aggressive base and aggressive lyrics in the most part from Keith (RIP).
Listen loud!
Ice Cube
1/5
Ooh, I’m a gangsta futha mucker!
Yawn.
Lauryn Hill
2/5
Found it all a bit repetitive and dull. Not my kind of thing though, granted.
Hole
3/5
Not bad, some good tunes, but not great. Would listen again.
Heaven 17
2/5
It’s not bad, but as at the time, it just made me want to listen to the Human League albums that were out at the same time or before this.
They were ok, but others did it better.
As an aside, when they were younger lead singer Glenn Gregory reminded me of Gary Busey.
Sleater-Kinney
3/5
Pretty good. I’d never heard of them before, but they have that sound that I was sure I had heard before.
Definitely will listen again.
Burning Spear
4/5
Really enjoyed this. Mellow and really tuneful. Definitely worth another listen.
The Jam
5/5
Bought this when it came out when I was 10 and it’s been one of my favourites all my life. The best Jam album as well.
Yes there are a couple of well known hits on the album, but all the others are just as good, if not better.
Listen loud!
The Disposable Heroes Of Hiphoprisy
3/5
Great idea and two or three great tracks, but it doesn’t hold up with some others.
Manic Street Preachers
4/5
Pretty decent album with some great tracks. Some really good riffs, but I always think their albums are not quite there.
Aerosmith
1/5
Awful 80s rock bilge. Girls, drink, drugs etc etc. *yawn*
Not even good musically either. Without Tyler’s vocal style it could be any one of hundreds of bands.
Eagles
3/5
Not bad, but not really getting any emotions from it either.
Fairly middle of the road.
Gary Numan
3/5
Decent album, but why oh why end it with that pants version of Broadway?
Hope it wasn’t on the original release.
One star off for that.
The Mothers Of Invention
3/5
Not bad. A bit whacky, but with Zappa at the helm why not.
Adam & The Ants
4/5
This was the first album I bought, on cassette, aged 10. Loved it at the time and it’s still a classic. Favourites then and now are Ant Invasion, Killer In The Home and The Human Beings
Supergrass
3/5
Richard III and Sun Hits the Sky are standout tracks. Unfortunately there are some forgettable ones to which make it average on the whole.
Grizzly Bear
2/5
Middle of the road and quite forgettable to be honest. Sounds in places like Fleet Foxes, but only briefly.
The Rolling Stones
3/5
Some good tunes, but some forgettable as well. I forgot it was on by the time I got to the end of the album.
Not a stinker though by any means.
Joni Mitchell
3/5
Couldn’t listen, it’s not available on Spotify so giving a middle 3
Culture Club
2/5
This isn’t my kind of music at all. At the time I absolutely hated it, but now I can appreciated Boy George’s voice, however it’s still not something I’d want to listen to.
The Shamen
3/5
This was their best album before they went bobbins with e’s are good etc. Goes on a bit long, but some decent tunes.
Manu Chao
3/5
Not bad really. Some decent chilled out tunes.
T. Rex
3/5
Some good tracks and a good sound overall, but I’ve never thought it was a banger.
The Smiths
4/5
How very weird to get this album with the first song being “The Queen Is Dead” today of all days.
I used to really despise The Smiths when they were in their pomp. I was a goth at the time so they were too popular and middle of the road for me at the time.
They have grown on me over the years though. I’ve grown to like them more and more as Morrisey has turned more and more into a right wing lunatic.
All in all a good album with some cracking tunes.
Fatboy Slim
2/5
Where to start?
Didn’t like this at the time and I think it’s got worse over time.
Sounds like a poor man’s attempt at David Holmes style soundtrack music (sorry Norman).
It’s a no from me.
5/5
Always a 5 for me. Went to see them on this tour.
I usually like things a bit different, but have consistently liked U2 up to and including this album.
It was massive! Influenced so much in music at the time and still a seminal album
Jungle Brothers
3/5
Not sure who came first, but reminds me of De La Soul. Not something I would normally listen to, but this is decent enough.
Joan Armatrading
3/5
Not bad at all. Nice and easy listening. Would listen again.
Fleet Foxes
5/5
Love this album. Great folk music at its best. Like S&G at their best.
Bebel Gilberto
2/5
It was ok. Brazilian samba, bossa nova etc. trying to emulate and indeed covering Sergio Mendez, but not as good imho.
The Sonics
3/5
Some classics on here. Have love will travel being the best (check out Crazyhead’s version).
A decent album with one too many woooaaaaaaooowwwws
Sister Sledge
2/5
Good disco album with nice riffs, but could do without the remixes at the end.
Nirvana
5/5
Bought this the day it came out and was amazed at how good it was. Played it to death and saw them in this tour.
Got the killing joke riff in Come As You Are as soon as I heard it.
Great album
Neil Young
3/5
Can’t play this on Spotify. Given average score.
The Human League
5/5
Used to listen to this on my Walkman at college during lunch time playing the 1942 arcade machine in the leisure centre across the road. Good times.
A cracking album btw. One that’s often mimicked, but rarely bettered.
Creedence Clearwater Revival
2/5
Fairly forgettable to be honest. Not bad particularly, but nothing stands out.
1/5
Don’t like it at the timeand it’s certainly not aged well.
Middle or the road bilge that’s all sounds the same.
Avoid.
Cream
3/5
Some decent tracks, but not amazing.
Jeff Beck
2/5
I can see his influence on so many artists, but they just seem to do it better. Led Zep for instance.
Decent album and obviously talented, but I don’t quite like his voice and feel it went on a bit too long.
There are also some tracks that are really self indulgent.
My Bloody Valentine
5/5
I fell in love with MBV after hearing one of their earlier tracks, Strawberry Wine, on a free NME cassette (look it up!).
Saw them live in the late 80s and they were awesome.
This was the pinnacle album wise, but there are better EPs out there. You Made Me Realise has an amazing B-side.
Sometimes is the highlight for me, but I could listen to this over and over.
Ash
2/5
Teen indie pop. Decent enough for what it is, but not something I’d really listen to.
Nitin Sawhney
2/5
Some decent tunes and some not so decent. Some not really my thing at all.
A very varied album and some talent on show, just not really something I’d put on.
Frank Sinatra
1/5
Apologies to the aficionados, but once you’ve heard the first track you’ve heard them all.
I don’t think an algorithm to generate new Frank Sinatra songs would be very complex at all.
Eagles
1/5
Some things just don’t age very well.
David Crosby
3/5
Not bad, but kind of forgot I was listening to it.
Beastie Boys
3/5
Decent album, but not their best by a long way.
Portishead
3/5
It’s different, and some good tunes, but wears a bit thin after a while
Metallica
2/5
Not bad, but very predictable.
Missy Elliott
2/5
Not my thing at all, but base sounds good.
Elvis Presley
2/5
Not his best. Mostly dodgy balads.
The Prodigy
3/5
Not bad. Now you know what they ended up doing you can tell listening to this that there were better things to come.
The Slits
3/5
Not bad really. Worth another listen
N.W.A.
1/5
A friend I shared a house with listened to this a lot when it came out. Still bobbins.
Bob Dylan
2/5
Really can’t get on with his nasal whinging
The Killers
2/5
Not that bad, but very average. White Lies are much better at the same thing imho
Adele
3/5
Better than I thought it would be.
Marvin Gaye
2/5
It’s was fine, but nothing I’d usually listen to. Easy listening.
The Clash
3/5
Never really got into The Clash. A bit average imho
Nirvana
4/5
Always liked this album. Not as good as some others of theirs or the genre, but good anyway.
Fugees
2/5
Not really my think. Some bits were ok.
The Rolling Stones
2/5
I’m sure they were good in their day but they don’t do anything for me.
Pink Floyd
3/5
It’s fine, but not as good as I always want it to be.
Radiohead
4/5
Not their best, but still a really good album
Steely Dan
2/5
Some decent tunes, but it’s a few days since I listened and I can’t remember which ones, so not that great.
Black Sabbath
2/5
Just what you’d expect from 1970 rock.
The Byrds
3/5
Not bad, but finished and I didn’t realise which is always a sign that something hasn’t really grabbed you. A couple of decent tunes though
Prince
3/5
Some good tracks, but some wayward indulgent ones as well. Still worth a listen though.
George Harrison
2/5
Not really anything better than very middle of the road.
Iron Maiden
2/5
Not great. Was never really a fan of them or this type of music, or Bruce's voice for that matter, and I don't think this is their best either.
2/5
Pretty average from Blur and this version is way too long at over 2hrs. They’ve done much better albums than this.
Paul Simon
3/5
Decent album. You can see what he was trying to do and his influences for the album
Alice In Chains
2/5
Not really my cup of tea vocally. Some decent tunes though
Dead Kennedys
5/5
Great album. Haven’t listened to this in years.
Duran Duran
3/5
Used to hate these when I was in school. Not so bad when listening back now, but still not the best, however really like Save A Prayer which boosts the score on its own.
Sigur Rós
5/5
Love this album. Chilled and euphoric in one.
Elton John
3/5
Surprisingly not bad at all
Ali Farka Touré
2/5
Really not my thing. Musically accomplished, but just doesn’t float my boat.
Duke Ellington
2/5
Didn’t really listen - not spending 2hrs 7 mins of life on this.
Bruce Springsteen
3/5
Some decent tunes on here and a step say from the generic rock of other albums.
Songhoy Blues
4/5
Pretty good album. Definitely listen to again. Nice blues soon, lots of rhythm.
Sonic Youth
5/5
One of my all time favourite albums. A couple of tracks aren’t amazing, but some of the others are - Disappearer being one. Love it!
4/5
Not a bad album at all with some really good tracks. Just not quite a gem.
Lambchop
2/5
Easy listening. Not really my thing and something that makes me wonder how it made the list.
JAY Z
1/5
Awful.
ABBA
2/5
You all know this sounds like. Great if you like that sort of thing. I can see the appeal, but it’s not for me.
Leonard Cohen
2/5
Ok I guess. I was glad the album was short though. Not sure I could listen to his version of a concept double album
Elis Regina
3/5
Ok. I do like some Brazilian samba music and this is decent enough. Not sure how often I’d listen though.
Taylor Swift
2/5
Ok I guess, if you like that sort of thing. I don’t.
The Beach Boys
4/5
Great album. I’m sure the original was much shorter though 😉
Radiohead
5/5
Genius album. Was there on release day and one of my favourite bands.
The Libertines
2/5
It’s ok. Remember liking it a lot more at the time. Some decent tunes, but overall it’s fairly forgettable
Rage Against The Machine
5/5
Brilliant album that still sounds as good today as it did then. Mainly because the world is still as shit as it was. Nothing changes.
Beatles
4/5
Classic album. Some genre defining sounds here that I’m sure influenced generations. One off though for me personally because not every one is a winner
Lloyd Cole And The Commotions
3/5
Not bad, but I think some of their other albums are better
Public Enemy
3/5
Memories of my house mate in student days listening to this. Not my bag, but some decent tunes here and there so not a stinker. Influential in many ways ups it to three.
ABBA
1/5
I would say didn’t listen in a way because although it was on, it’s so forgettable I didn’t really listen.
It’s no offensive at all, just dull.
Morrissey
1/5
So dull.
Tom Tom Club
3/5
Pleasantly surprised. Some good tracks on here, but a special edition album that goes on too long, like most of them do.
Kate Bush
2/5
No doubting her talent, but I just don’t get on with the music all that well.
Beck
3/5
Decent album. Not his best but worth another listen
Hugh Masekela
2/5
It was ok. Not my thing really, but some nice rhythms.
The Flaming Lips
2/5
Quite forgettable, but not terrible.
R.E.M.
2/5
Never really liked them, especially in their heyday when they were hard to avoid. They just sound bland to me. Like eating toast with nothing on it.
Ray Charles
1/5
Ray Charles and a big band. Just what you’d expect from that combo. Doesn’t do anything for me.
Baaba Maal
3/5
Decent musically, but pretty repetitive. Some decent rhythms though.
The Roots
2/5
Just not my genre at all. Nothing to see here for me.
Dinosaur Jr.
3/5
Loved Freak Scene when it came out, but was always disappointed when I listened to the whole album. Still the same today
Elvis Costello & The Attractions
3/5
The best of his I’ve heard on this list so far.
Digital Underground
1/5
Seriously? Don’t bother. Just listen to half the first song and that’s about all you need - you’ve heard it all then.
The Go-Go's
2/5
I guess it was different in their hey-day being an all girl rock band, but it sounds a bit dated now.
The Sensational Alex Harvey Band
2/5
It was ok, but very dated. Not sure I’d listen to it again.
Stan Getz
2/5
Ok. Similar to some other Brazilian samba type music I’ve listened to before, but have to be in the mood.
Hole
3/5
Some good tracks, but not a stormer or anything. Would listen again.
fIREHOSE
3/5
Not bad. Worth a few more listens. I’m sure I’ve heard some of this before.
AC/DC
4/5
I used to hate this lot when I was a kid. Hated all “metal” because I was a bit of a mod.
So I started listening to them a while ago and they’ve done some bloody good albums and this is one of them.
Neil Young & Crazy Horse
3/5
Didn’t listen because the tracks were unavailable. Don’t mind some Neil Young so gave it a 3.
Elvis Presley
2/5
Ok. I do like some Elvis and appreciate the importance of this, but not his best imho
Def Leppard
1/5
Absolutely awful at the time and it’s not aged well.
John Coltrane
2/5
Not my cup of tea to be honest. Some nice melodies and sounds, but I don’t like when it goes a bit random. Just find that headachey.
David Ackles
2/5
Some parts are ok, some not so. A bit dated for me. Slips between Nick Cave and Neil Diamond on occoasions.
Ok, but probably won’t listen again.
Anita Baker
1/5
How did this make it on here? There was some good music about in that decade and this wasn’t it.
Dull soul.
Kelela
3/5
Not bad to be honest. Not something I’d listen to and prob won’t listen again, but it had good points.
Britney Spears
1/5
As if you don’t already know what you’re getting from this before you listen.
Terrible.
Pearl Jam
3/5
Listened to it at the time and was a bit underwhelmed. Always thought they’ve got promise, but never quite delivered. Decent though
XTC
2/5
I don't think this stands the test of time very well. Seemed really bland and trying to be a bit Beatlesy in places. A couple of standout tunes that weren't so bad give it an extra star.
The The
5/5
Love this album. Amazing (or not) how a lot of the political commentary is still relevant today.
Metallica
4/5
Decent album with the obvious standout tracks. Enjoyed them at the time, but not the full album.
Radiohead
5/5
Love this album. One of their best.
The Incredible String Band
1/5
I can’t sing and I can’t play a music instrument so save my life. However, neither would prevent me from being a member of this band.
What on earth were they on?
Buena Vista Social Club
2/5
Not really my thing, but it’s not offensive
Turbonegro
3/5
Reminded me a little of the Ramones. Not bad.
Gene Clark
2/5
First song was awful - what an opener! After that it was kind of average.
Pavement
3/5
Not bad. Probably wouldn’t turn it on, but might not turn it off.
Deep Purple
2/5
What you’d expect really. Some decent melodies, but some nonsense too.
Jane's Addiction
5/5
Awesome album. Saw them live on this tour and they blew me away.
Absolutely awesome live and on record.
Crosby, Stills & Nash
4/5
Liked this quite a lot. Nice rhythms. Good tunes etc.
Bob Marley & The Wailers
5/5
Great album with some timeless classics on there.
Bauhaus
4/5
Good album, but not their best.
TV On The Radio
3/5
Not bad. Some half decent tunes, but doubt I’d listen again.
Johnny Cash
3/5
Decent album. Listened to this as a kids because my Dad had it.
Usual tunes from Cash, but sound better live and with the environment they were in, sounds even better
Siouxsie And The Banshees
3/5
Decent album. Always liked a lot of SATB stuff, but never really a full album.
Kings of Leon
2/5
Fairly good musically, but his voice was painful at times
