As far as pop goes, this is repetitive crap. There's nothing wrong with pop, or repetitive edm! But this is just a bore.
If never heard this group before. It's good! That dude's voice is a bit of a mismatch with the style? Maybe? I don't know. But I liked this.
This is better than most of the new wave on the actual list. But it's just so hollow sounding. It's just too crisp. The vocals are too far forward in the mix. It's not not bad but there is no real difference in time between the tones song to song.
Good. Not great. I need more variation. But I generally think this has some tracks I'll listen to more.
I always thought Paramore was just okay. I looked their previous record Riot! More than this one though this one does have the stone in it from Twilight, which despite being a shit movie, had a weirdly banging soundtrack.
Boring. Forgettable. Just generally not good.
Suuuuper unexpectedly good. A little dated, this sounds very of it's era but this record is really good.
I never gave this band my attention when they first hit. I didn't even know the name of the album or this cover until today. But holy hell there are some real bangers on this record. And I knew it's hits really well. This must have been one of the last radio toppers before I stopped consuming music that way. Super happy I came across this thing.
I get why this is culturally relevant. But this is not a good album.
Every song here sounds the same. And that sound is boredom.
Good. But VERY repetitive. Most of the songs sound very similar.
The quality of recording on this is shocking. The instruments pop out of the speakers, perfectly separated and clear as day. 10/10 for recording, mixing, and mastering. Sadly that is where my compliments end. The songwriting is fine I suppose for this genre. But these songs are just not good. Almost like they are trying to be weird, but afraid to commit. It's just boring and bad from the songwriting perspective. (For me)
I love all the bleeps and bloops in this. But none of these songs go anywhere.
This was rougher than I'd hoped. When it hits, it hits. But holy hell. I NEEDED a little more melody. Just a LITTLE bit.
This record is just too long. It's the only problem with it really.
This veered to far into ska for me. Which is one of few music genres I can't stand. This was fine though.
I like King Gizzard in small doses. This album is good.
Music for people who think they are into music. This is shitty soft rock trying to pretend it's prog. I'm not falling for it. And in what fucking world is it okay for this to be an hour and forty minutes.
This would have benefitted from a whole band. It's to monotonous with just the guitar and voice
Old School hip hop made just a little too late? Yes please!
This is a let down. It's bloated with no definition. The music is boring and the story is so Boomer it's embarrassing. This shouldn't exist.
Punk sounded the way it did because it was the best they could sound at the time. In 2008, anyone could sound better than this. So this is intentional. I like lo-fi. And I love shoegazy alternative. But this isn't lo-fi, it's being annoying on purpose. I made it through all 30 minutes. It's possible there may be something of value here, but I can't hear it. But I suspect the distortion is hiding a lack of songwriting skill.
My suspicions were confirmed at the end of "end of all things" when they drop the distortion for a bit. The songs themselves aren't good. The distortion is converting up poor songs.
I dug this but wanted more up tempo tracks. The audio quality of this recording is really high as well.
I wanted to like this soooo hard. But it just didn't flow. I like the tones and the attitude. But it just feel short for me.
I was at a National concert like 15 years ago and Owen was the opener. He played "E is for Estranged" at that show which I maintain is one of the best songs ever written. I like a lot of Owen Pallett. IMHO, he is on the good side of indie. The side that isn't tired, all sounding the same. This record is pretty good. Owen is great
This was really fun. Is never heard of them before. And yeah, it does sound like early Genesis. But that's okay. This want derivative. It felt fresh.
Lyrics were great. But the arrangements needed more IMHO. I need more than just some chords on a guitar.
Is it word that Screeching Weasel want in the book? They aren't my favorite, but they are culturally relevant. They should be in there
Never heard of this group before. The first 30 seconds had me worried it was going to be intentionally annoying. Then it got good. Hella good. It's very early 2000s but holy hell. This record is great!
One of the most forgettable albums by one of the most forgettable bands. It's not bad. But I think I forgot about it while it was still on.
Thank god that is over. Woof.
An album of it's time to be sure. But I looked it then. My wife loves it so it gets a lot of plays in our house. In the end, it's rather good for me, though a little too produced.
Eeeeh. I don't know about this.
I don't prefer this. At least it was short. It's kind of a higher quality version of the alarm on my phone. A little more moody.
Lyrics are a 10/10 here by the music is so boring!
This was fine. But I am not too much into the scratching aspect of hip hop. Especially early hip hop where there are only like 5 different audio tricks to do. I think, just for me, the amount of scratching time really hurt this one.
I never could understand why bands used Roland pianos in the studio if they were using the standard piano sound. It sounded like shit then. It sounds like shit now. Using a real piano in the studio is an absolute no brainer. I just don't get it.
Every idea in this album could have been covered in about 15 minutes. This may be the most repetitive album I have ever heard.
Culturally very significant. But very boring IMHO. It was short though. So there's that
Imagine being the guitar player in Primus. Poor guy could never get laid. Primus Sucks.
This record is a reflection of my soul.
I do think that theater kids should get a chance to make some music. But I think Meatloaf and the Rocky Horror Picture Show did this same thing better.
In what world would anyone want to listen to this for an hour and forty three minutes? I don't care if your husband was the savior of human kind. This is dog shit. I made it thorough EVERY album in the book... But this one tested me. I really do try not to judge other peoples taste in music. But I am having a really hard time not doing so in this case. I did make it through all the moaning and ape noises. Fuck this album.
This record wants to be so many things and all it can manage is to sound like parts of other bands. I hear TV On The Radio, early Arcade Fire, M83, Explosions in the Sky and others. It's not a bad record. But it lacks identity
This 100% is a record that should have been on the list. While we were all consumed by self loathing grunge, this masterpiece had something different and amazing to say the least.
I wouldn't have noticed the record at the time had it not been for a very attractive girl in my American History class who like the band. I became a fan in order to curry favor with her. She was not interested but I fell in love with Blue, and later Pinkerton anyway.
This is a classic
I like the idea of Tame Impala more than the music itself. I don't know if that makes sense. But it's so ehow true none the less. This particular record is half 10/10 bangers and half sleepy meh tracks. But those bangers. Holy hell do they work their way into my brain.
Super awesome concept but we did not need 45 minutes of it. This is cool for about 10 or so before the looping vinyl pops become somewhat overwhelming.
Fun and weird. But not exactly for me
I would say this is in in the top half of pop records from the last decade. But it's still just pop. Of all the pop stars, Roan is one I can put up with more than many others. When this record came out, my son was 16 and we heard it a lot in the car.
I'd put this on the less annoying side of fine. Which I would say is actually a huge compliment for it.
Their second worst album. And it's still easily a 5. All bangers.
This one's mine. I first heard about this record on NPR of all places and at the time I was really too broke to be buying CDs. But streaming wasn't a thing yet. But once I heard it, I was transfixed by it. Something about the miss and sparseness of it just captured me.
I'm a metalhead mostly but this record just captured my attention in a huge way. To this day I listen to this every few months and I think this is basically a perfect record.
I never got the hype around Lady Gaga. It's catchy but there is no meat. It's like eating candy for dinner. But I suppose pop has never been a filling meal in that sense. I just struggle to get why people like this.
These guys popped right when BitTorrent became a thing and I pirated the shit out of it. I somehow forgot about them though. And this is a wild blast from the past. I really liked this. And am reading them to my rotation. I LOVE that it's a glitchy Industrial side of techno. Perfect for me when I'm not wanting lyrics.
Music designed for walmarts and home depot parking lots.
It's like they saw a corporate promotional video and wanted to update the soundtrack to it.
It's like someone thought Coldplay had too much personality and wanted to tone it down a little.
It's like going to a foreign country and eating at McDonalds.
This was the most wild user submission so far. I don't know. It's way out there. I don't hate it. But I didn't know if I'll ever listen to it again.
I respect this for what it is but I didn't really enjoy it. I don't think I'm smart enough for it.
Fucking shit this is good. I ended up listening to all three of their records twice today.
I hated this in a way I can't begin to cover here. The songs, the instrumentation, the lyrics, the length, the style. I fucking hated everything about this and it made me irrationally angry. I do appreciate finding records that elicit this response from me. Finding records I hate this much is really kind of rare. This actually put me in a bad mood today.
I liked this okay but the record was kind of forgettable.
Hmm. I was kind of bored by this one
This was weird in a way I can totally get down with. And I am sure the fact that it's in Spanish is 90% of the allure for me as jangle pop is not my thing.
I like Killswitch a lot. As an industrial fan, I feel like this list just didn't cover much metal at all. So I'm inclined to pump this an extra star. I think Heartache is better. But this is a good representative of the genre.
This is the version of him I like best. Other than this is America, I struggle with his later work. Peak for me!
I've always thought that Wilco SHOULD have been dropped from their label. They weren't good until YHF, and that record is amazing but from WBs perspective, too weird compared to their other work.
But then after YHF, they put out ANOTHER masterpiece with. A Ghost is Born. And then... Nothing else is really good. That Kicking Television is good but it's just a great live show with their best tracks.
My point is, Wilco is not good outside of those two records. Tweedy has had a lot of troubles in his life and I really love the fact he had two AMAZING records. But this. This isn't one of them.
"thou shall not make generic, repetitive music"
Better than the album on the list. This is really good.
It's not that it's a bad album. It's just entirely too long. There is just no reason for it to be this long.
Sad Christmas music is still Christmas music. But it's not as bad as some others.
Don't I ow why but I had assumed there would be hits on this. Or at least something I had heard. This was just sort of meh. Just sitting there not doing anything.
Great record from a band I don't think gets a lot of live from us music snobs.
I have heard about this band a lot over the years but never gave them a listen. Not sure what all the hype is about. Nothing happens on this record. It just sort of limps along like a wet noodle and then whimpers into the end.
Never had of this. It was good.
It's our old friends "generic" and "repetitive". And the pair ALWAYS comes with their hanger on, "stupid long run time". I know someone picked this and I appreciate that everyone likes something different. But this is truly shit.
I liked the music. The story is convoluted and a total waste of time. But the music was good.
This was okay. Very much so etching for the background. Rather forgettable.
This was fun. It's wildly dated at this point. But I enjoyed it.
Kind of like that old style of country. It's okay I guess? Too long though. Way too long.
The up tempo numbers on this were great. Loved them all. The slower, quieter songs though we're uninspired to me. Super glad this was added.
Good lyrical content here. I'm not a fan of this style of music. It's just not enough to keep me engaged. I'm glad I heard it though.
Fucking fire start to finish. \m/
I've uh, seen this album cover before. But never listened to the record. This is okay. I like weird, but this goes pretty hard into weird.
I may be the only person who thinks their first record (the self titled one) was better than the second. Toxicity is a certified banger for sure, but have you tried listening to the first one on shitty cans at full blast while walking to work at Blockbuster video in 1998? Chefs fucking kiss.
This album is a nice bit of soft indie rock for a rainy morning. Super easy listening. I am not sure anyone would have ever heard it really had it not been for the OC followed by SNL. Good use of Vocoder I guess to soup up an otherwise boring track. This records is just fine I suppose? Nothing really to see here.
The opening track here is VERY Talking Heads. And I think it's good. But the rest of this is boring. It tries to be weird but is not engaging.
The most meh I've felt in a while about once if these not one feeling either eat really.
This record actively made me angry. I'm not sure what it is about the music or the singing. But I was really upset by this. And not in like, the good way a piece of art might evoke an emotion in a person. I was/am somehow mad that this even exists. It means nothing. It is nothing. How would any of this be performed live? These aren't real songs.
I like the Breeders okay. But other than Cannonball, this record lacks anything that really grabs my attention. Cannonball itself though slaps and single handedly raises this entire record. It's just odd to me how deserted the rest of it is.
This was rather biting to me.
