Ambient 1/Music For Airports
Brian EnoAlready one of my favorite ambient albums. Really a genre defining album, and still very good at what it was designed to do.
Already one of my favorite ambient albums. Really a genre defining album, and still very good at what it was designed to do.
Good songs all around. Kind of like a greatest hits album.
Kind of reminds me of the guitar in Stevie Wonder Superstition in some places, in a good way. Stay is the best song. I've heard golden years before but not impressed with the singing.
Good album. Noe the strongest songs by them but some good ones.
Decent sounding guitars ruined by idiotic and annoying singing.
Strengths: Hayes vocals and singing, and the overall sound and production. Weaknesses: Overly long and meandering, sentimental love songs.
Very personal feel with the layering of his voice and the foward-ness of his vocals in the mix. Singer/Songwriter or indie folk is not my style, but this was not bad. Very depressing songs though.
Killer start to the record with Jump and Panama. Great guitar playing throughout. Has to be at least a 4.
Good for running, with a good beat throughout, but it does not have any of Fatboy Slim's best songs.
Brimming with creativity. A piece of art. I actually prefer instrumental music. Almost perfect, except for the singing. Not that the singing is done badly, and it's also done in a way similar to an instrument. Wish I could give it 4.5 stars. Almost perfect.
Good album. Solid songs throughout.
Decent album. Not a style of music I like
For a country record, decent. Had a ton of cliches, but some personal moments also.
She has a great voice. I did not like the English language tracks. I would rather hear her native language. The last track with the guy laughing seemed entirely inappropriate. It could have been a good song if the guy didn't spoil it.
Great voice, good songs all around.
Seems like too much and too little at the same time. Lead singer mumbles words and gas a whiny tone. The instruments are played well with precision. There are small stretches of good rock music intereperced with long, boring, whiny sessions. It's like the band could play good music but chose not to.
Eminem's best album.
Just not very good. Guitars are tolerable at times, but it is ruined by the vocalist.
Interesting, but nothing I would listen to. Singer is a crazy man, and the band sound terrible but in a good way.
Better than a lot of punk music, but 3 stars only because of the last song.
Exactly what you would like to hear at a smoky, dimly lit jazz lounge, late at night. Three stars for her voice alone, but the songs aren't much.
Not too shabby. The last 2 songs were the best ones. I like the synth sound.
Would be better if not for the singing.
I like the combo of rock and electronic. It anticipates a lot of indietronica of the last 20 years. Would listen to more of their music.
Great production by Kanye and J Dilla along with the smooth raps by Common. Four stars but with another listen may go up to five. Will listen again.
Already one of my favorite ambient albums. Really a genre defining album, and still very good at what it was designed to do.
Great downtempo chill music.
Some good tunes, and Frank's voice is great as always. Not a great fan of just love songs.
Not a huge fan of the lead singer. His voice is kind of abrasive.
Not the strongest offering, with no real standout songs. Overall, a good effort, but j was looking for more.
Sledgehammer and Your Eyes were good, the other song were forgettable.
Love my man Jack white's guitar playing, but the record just didn't do it for me. The album had a grabbag of rock styles, showing the range of Jack. 2.5 stars.
Some well known songs and the rest of the album was good too.
This album is way too long. Folk tinged rock. A few good songs but I got bored by the style before th album was half done.
Not very good. Obnoxious throwaway lyrics, beats sound like they were made with Fisher Price beat machine by a 12 year old girl.
Trashy lyrics. One or 2 decent songs.
Just consistently good all the way through.
Not feeling it at all. Country, singer songwriter folk. That's like a recipe for the kind of music I do not like. His voice is also not very good, and it is very whiny. Almost gave it 3 stars for the rock parts, but that would have been too generous.
Decent music, but the lyrics were literally cringe. They were painful to listen to.
Good songs. Almost a 4.
Catchy songs with a good political message.
Nothing. I felt nothing when listening to this. Not absolutely terrible, just not impactful at all.
Another album that left me completely cold.
Not pleasant to listen to.
Soothing and atmospheric. Not bad.
Catchy songs, just not generally my style.
All the hits you want to hear in one live set.
The album took a dark turn. The woman's voice is good but the first song is not enough to elevate the album above mid range.
Classic album.
Although this album was written in thr 1970s about the social issues of that time, it could have been written yesterday because the same social issues persist today. 3 stars for the music alone, 1 more for the hood social message
There is a lit of east coast boom bap mid 90s style to this, which I like. Lyrics not too complex. Good social message.
Dead boring.
Good classic Christmas songs. If I ever play a Christmas album in my entire life, which I never have, then I would probably look to this.
Grating nonsensical sounds and conversations are interspersed annoyingly throughout, which ruins any musicality of the album. It's a lot worse than the music that it attempts to satire.
I think he did what he wanted to do on this album, but unfortunately it was not what I wanted. Is it stand up comedy or some kind of jazz backed speaking thing?
Great album. Love the subject matter (science fiction) and also the music itself.
Not a huge fan of them, but they are decent. There are a few standout songs like Sex is on Fire and Use Somebody. The rest is pretty bland.
A few good songs are not enough to elevate this album out of mediocrity.
Just a blank canvas of same-sounding acoustic guitar and singing. I got nothing at all out of it.
I like the blues rock style of a lof of these songs, and there are also a few I've heard before. Overall, a solid album.
It had some rock sounding parts, but I don't think I enjoyed one song. Also, the sexual moaning, what the hell. One star. OK maybe 2
A classic electronic album.
A chore to listen to this monotone singing with the guy one millimeter from the microphone. And it's 2 hrs of this?
Seems like they didn't write quite a few of the songs themselves, but still their version was good.
Great house tracks but one or two misses .
Collections of random sounds set to a piano or choir.
The lyricism, the flow, the clever rhymes just are not there, but this is an interesting concept. This may be the most British thing I've ever heard.
This is an amazing vocal performance. No wonder Andre doesn't want to rap anymore. I can't see anybody rapping this fast and furious without a lot of practice. Funky and with all types of styles and beats. These guys can rap over any beat or with any flow.
I really like the sound of the guitars and most of the songs were good to great.
I like the experimentation, but sometimes it goes a bit too far and doesn't work.
Very fake canned sounding. But some of the songs are catchy.
This is a cut above most of the albums on this list because of the subject matter, the concept, and the many styles used. Tentatively giving 3.5 stars until I have a chance to listen to it more.
There wasn't a single song from this album that I would play ever again.
Started strong but ended weak.
The recording quality sounds pretty poor, but maybe that is to be expected from a recording from 1966. Still, it sounds old, which others from the same Era don't, maybe becausenof mixing and remastering. It's also of a style that was prevalent in the 60s and 70s only. Comparing it to contemporaries like The Rolling Stones, The Doors, etc, I can't say they are better. It falls short of being even an average album from this list.
They play technically well, but most of the songs do not hit. Giving them 3 stars for the first track, which is at leat a cool idea.
Not bad, there were actually some songs that I liked on this one. I like this kind of music.
Nothing here really interested me.
Not bad. There were actually some songs I enjoyed, despite never having heard them before. I like this style of music.
Had 3 or 4 songs which were good, which puts it above most albums on this list. Would listen to more Priest.
I liked it a lot more than I thought I would.
I don't generally like country music, but this is simple enough and tells a story. Better than I expected.
Nothing really interests me here. Folk rock us not my style. Truckin is the best song here, and that's not saying much. At least it is a mellow album.
A few good songs, but a lot of filler.
Groovy beats, solid album.
One of the top rap albums of all time and one of the most expensive albums ever made. In my top 5 albums. If I could give it 6 stars I would. I bought one single album in 10 years and this was it.
The first few songs were good, but that is not enough to elevate the album.
He can make a mediocre song better with just a piano riff. He has a way of making a song sound good that has no right to sound good.
Good metal throughout.
A classic. How can you give this album anything less than top marks when it created a whole style of music? Even today it sounds great. Better than I remember from my childhood.
Classic hard rock album.
Better than I thought it would be, but it's still country.
I never like these generic singer song writer things. Throw in country and it gets neven worse. This guy definitely seems like the kind of douchebag to cover an entire Taylor Swift album and then get hit with me too allegations. You can't make this stuff up. Will this album ever end? Oh God, I'm only half way through it.
This is a mess. None of the instruments and singing seems to match up. It's chaotic. A lot of the tracks are just generic strumming and some guy screaming about something, I don't know or care what. I just want that idiot to shut up. 2 stars only for some of the guitar playing.
On paper I should really like this. Hip hop beats mixed with electronic and ambient. This should be my number one album from that description, but it's just not hitting. Maybe it's the vocals. Yeah, those are really bringing it down. And the dark and creepy edge the music has is unsettling, and not enjoyable.
When I put it on my mom mistaked it for the rock band from her church and commented that they were playing better than usual. That could give you an idea of the music, that it could be confused for modern day Christian folk rock played at every large church across the country. That's how bland and inoffensive it is. Sure it's a step above your standard Christian rock, but not that much different.
I want sure about this one at first. I'd heard some of the songs, but some of them didn't originally impress me. On a second listen I realized that most of the songs were good.
Another boring, meandering, folk, country, singer songwriter thing. God, will they ever tire of putting these things on the list? This album passed like a cloud in front of the sun, with nary an impression left behind.
Mot my favorite thing, but not bad for what it is.
Pretty good, but it was overly long and had some misses. I like the mix of Indian music and electronic.
Pretty good overall.
Some standout songs, but most of them were pretty good.
This is what radiohead sounds like to me.
With another listen I might give it 4 stars but right now that is where it stands.
Off-key yelling over only occasionally decent guitar. I was going to say the band woud be better without the singer, but as I listen to it more, not even that could save it. Not redeeming song yet. It just kind of blends together into a shouting, droning mess.
Not terrible, but nothing interesting.
So many interesting ideas I had to listen to it a few times. Some albums on this list I wouldn't even want to complete once.
I didn't want to give it 5 stars just because it's a Beatles album, but the songs won me over. There wasn't a miss.on the album.
This is painful to listen to. Corny, creepy, overly theatrical. Like listening to an amateur musical theater production.
Would like to give it 4 stars but it's just too long and blends into the background too much.
Two good songs.
Only a few good songs. I shot the sherrif is worse than the original.
Creates a mood but it doesn't take long to get your full of it.
She has an unsettling voice. The sound of it creates a bad effect on me. It seem to somehow always be off key. I think this album would be a lot better without the vocals.
Overall great, especially the guitar songs.
Probably one of the best punk albums I've listened to, which is not saying much
Great overall, but Starchild talking over the tracks got funking annoying.
Doesn't really have any skips. All of the songs are pretty good, which is a rare thing. Even Maxwell's Hammer was funny, it was so deranged.
A few good songs, but weak in a lot of places.
Sounds cheaply made.
Who's ever heard of them? OK, I've heard one of their songs.
Seems badly in need of a remaster, but it gas a few good songs.
Boring album with literally no memorable songs. The best I can say is that his voice sounds pretty good, and the instruments don't sound bad either.
I was shoegazing at the power button on my speaker, contemplating if i should turn it off.
The up front style goes well with the guitar, but ithe music tends to fade into the background, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. It's a vibe for sure.
Long and ponderous in places, symphonic in others. Overall, far too long.
No real standouts, but good playing hroughout.
How many singer-songwriter country folk albums do I have to listen to on this list? Just when you think this is over, it's only half done. This man has zero emotional range. See his completely flat version of Stand By Me.
Very rarely are live albums better than studio albums, and this is an example.
Surprised this sounds so good after all these years.
The first song was good, the rest jot so great. I don't feel like listening to it again.
Quality classic rock.
Annoying is the correct word for MIA. The lyrics just aren't there. Been a hip hop fan for decades, but this is just bad.
Finally a rapper with some skill, but the songs aren't that great.
Pretty good, but at the same time no stand outs.
Just plain boring, like all of these folk albums. One extra star because it sounds decent sometimes.
Still good.
Why choose this album when it doesn't have any of their hits and it not even highly rated by critics? There's 5 other albums of theirs that are supposedly better. Why choose this?
Solid hits done well.
Solid album.
Just not my style at all, but not a bad country album.
Nothing here is really that great, but theninstrumental track I do like.
One of the best singer songwriter albums I've heard on the list, but it does get boring after a while. It's above average for an album. Her voice isn't strong enough for several of these songs and that's why they were better covered by other people.
Getsnyou moving but all songs are the same.
The overall vibe of the music I like. It is relaxing, and has a lot of electronic influences to it. I can't really say any of the individual songs are thst strong.
Had some good beats.
Quality blues.
Deserves 3 stars for Coconut alone. Has an eclectic collection of music, but it's hit and miss.
The playing itself is not bad, but I found nothing compelling on this albim and it is far too long.
For what it us, not bad, but I can't get past the singer songwriter style.
I like the ethereal sound. It's relaxing, but no real standouts for fantastic songs.
Some bangers but not better than MBDTF or even TLOP, so 3.5 stars.
Didn't finish it.
