Exodus by Bob Marley & The Wailers
Jun 30 2024

Once it breaks out of the shackles of the protest album and loosens up, it plays like a greatest hits. Newfound respect for Wait in Vain. Yes there is a needless guitar solo which is a requirement for 70s albums, but musically more complex than I'd previously given it credit for. Not a coherent album, which ends on a high after Exodus track.

Kind Of Blue by Miles Davis
Jul 01 2024

Not much to add about this classic. A group of amazing musicians being amazing.

Jul 02 2024

I think this was the first time I listened to this album. Power, energy and passion in the vocals, ably backed up by some legendary musicians.

At Newport 1960 by Muddy Waters
Jul 03 2024

Amazing to think this was recorded in 1960. Couple of belters and high energy tunes but I'm knocking points off for Muddy dialing it in on some tracks, like 'Soon Forgotten'.

Mr. Tambourine Man by The Byrds
Jul 05 2024

I get that this was influential and the harmonies and the 12-string jangly guitar but the album is one hit and a whole lot of meh filler.

Eagles by Eagles
Jul 16 2024

I f*ckin hate the Eagles man! Maybe not quite hate. Been meaning to revisit some Eagles since I read a book about LA culture in 74 where I learned they were Linda Rondstadt's backing band. Production is top notch. Clean guitar sound, all the musicians are on form, and although it weaves its own path between country, rock, blues and folk and may be the birth of Americana it is still an outstanding record with some great songs. A slightly begrudging 5 stars.
