Jagged Little Pill
Alanis Morissette
This album has really stood the test of time. But I can’t help thinking about Dave Coulier from Full House, having to listen to these songs—written about him—year after year. What a brutal breakup legacy…epic.
I remember my mom had this CD in her player for years. It was her top album—she absolutely loved it—and she definitely tortured us with it. The very first track floods me with memories. And honestly, listening to it now, it’s actually not bad at all. A couple of songs feel a bit forgettable and don’t really go anywhere, but her vocal range and style are so distinct.
Now that I’m in my 40s, I find myself really enjoying the album. Some of the tracks hit hard. It’s awesome, and I totally get why it made the list.
But maybe my favorite part? It inspired Wesley Willis to write the song “Alanis Morissette” https://youtu.be/7_fg_D1noOY?si=W118n6FWsEg7aeom

When it hits… it hits but a lot of the songs similar. I dig the formula but it starts to wear on you.

"You know what the trouble about real life is? There's no danger music." Cable guy's use of somebody to love is forever imprinted in my brain. Song is haunting. the rest of the album is actually pretty good. I love the dreamy, echo-y drums. Makes me want to listen to Velvet underground though so I found myself skipping around a lot.

Beggars Banquet
The Rolling Stones
Man, Blues filtered through drugged up Brit rockers. Outside of the obvious hits, songs like Prodigal Son and Parachute Woman show their deep love and appreciation for the culture and heart of real Blues. They aren’t just white washing for money, it’s their contribution. Album is so short but powerful.
No Exceptions is my favorite on this one.

I don’t think I’ve ever actually listened to this album and it’s pretty great. I love the crunchy blown out distorted times paired with the dreamy whimsical soft moments. I’m asking myself now have I ever really let the LED out?
Damn, Since I’ve been loving, you is a killer song.
Gallows Pole gets me going, surprise, mandolin, and banjo demonic Bluegrass what the hell is going on? Seems to get faster and faster. Amazing song
Tangerine is lovely
The next couple songs are an adventure through the dark mystical forest. Deep roots, Smokey, sunlight through the branches. We know we will make it out but we aren’t in a rush. The air is thick and we are high. This is our vacation… but then the levee breaks
When the levee breaks is one of my favorite Zeppelin songs. I’m a sucker for harmonica and it’s so essential in this song. What a masterpiece.
Great album, already started it over.

Dookie
Green Day
There are a handful of bands I stay loyal to—but only up to a certain record. After that, it’s like we part ways. Metallica. The Offspring. Tool. Green Day.
When it comes to Green Day, it’s the raw, dirty energy of their early work—everything before Dookie—that really sticks with me. It’s chaotic, fun, and just as listenable today as it was back then. That said, Dookie holds a special place. It was one of the first albums I truly coveted. I’d put it on repeat, over and over and over again.
For me, it was all about Tré Cool’s drumming. It was intoxicating—creative, fast, and completely hooked me. I locked into the drums so hard that I barely noticed the vocals on first listen. And the bass? Just as critical. The way drums and bass are brought to the forefront on Dookie is what sets it apart from later Green Day albums. They’re prominent, memorable, and absolutely essential to the experience.
Billie Joe Armstrong’s snotty vocal delivery works perfectly here. The production is flawless—each track flows effortlessly into the next, with a perfect balance of energy and mood. There are no lulls. The entire album is relentless. And that secret song at the end? It leaves you grinning and ready to spin the whole thing again.
“F.O.D.” is a standout. “Longview” has a bassline so good it makes me drop what I’m doing to learn it—which I have, and forgotten, more times than I can count.
If I had to choose ten albums to take with me into eternity, Dookie would make the cut. I’m not even wild about Green Day as a band overall, and they’re not exactly pushing boundaries here—but Dookie is just woven into my childhood. It has the right mix of dynamics to get my blood pumping.
Everyone needs that one album to sing along to. This is mine. When I’m floating in the ether, I’ll need something to belt.
Oh yeah, “She” is my fav sign along song.

Kollaps
Einstürzende Neubauten
Wow, didn’t expect this, completely unknown to me, german, scary but fun and beaming with influence, sonic-ly…on all of all my favorite bands. Lairs, Xui Xui, Pharkmon, Idles, Dan Friel, the list goes on. They are capturing an attitude and texture that I see strive for in my own music. It’s the challenged rethinking of “what is music”, collection of sounds? If so why can’t my collection be personal and different from your collection.
The beginning of the album hits strong but my only issue is the blown out speaker thrill ride is cut short with a number similar audio stretches that seem to lack depth and are almost meaningless… but is that the point, I don’t know.
Was prepared for a 5 but it slumped down to a 4 by the end.
Kollaps is a banger
Listen to The Screamers, they pre-date this band and were on the same Nihilistic journey but used distorted synths instead of guitar.
