I forgot how many classics are on this album
I'd only heard "Alright", but there's some other fun stuff on here
A classic. The back half isn't anywhere near as strong though. RIP Ozzy.
Iron Maiden has never hit for me. I feel like I *should* like them (love a bunch of their peers), but they're just not for me. Cover art is always amazing though
first listen (apart from Clint Eastwood) - surprised this is on here and not Demon Days (or maybe it's coming?)
I think I didn't know who Harry Nilsson was... but this was a pleasant surprise listen.
Nothing really caught me and not really my genre, but made for unobjectionable background music.
As someone who was living in western Mass in '93, this album will always have a place in my heart. "Soul and Fire" may have been on more than one mix tape I made, but you can't prove it.
SO good. Also, I feel like I remember this coming out and it does not feel almost 10 years ago.
I don't think it's his best, but it's still so damned good.
My brother introduced me to this album way back and I could listen to it forever. The title track is a treat... it's good to be back at the chicken shack.
I prefer (and assume we'll see?) What's Going On... but this is still a great album.
A true classic - both for hip hop and me personally. You Be Illin' is super underrated, but the first 4 tracks deserve the love they get.
I've never loved country, but if I'm gonna listen to country, make it this country.
Part of what I'm loving about this project is an excuse to sit down and listen to full albums which I enjoy. I'd forgotten a lot of this album, and it was nice to listen to again after so long - I'd forgotten so many of the tracks.
Yes is one of those bands who are often cited as influences for bands I love (in particular Rush), but I don't seem to love the same way.
Okay, I made it through the whole thing - I think that deserves some kind of bonus reward, right? I love jazz, but I have never loved vocal jazz. I'll always make time (apparently 3+ hours) for Ella and Billie but it's not my go to.
Check Your Head is probably my #1, but Ill Communication is still a no-skip. I had a "One, Two, Oh My God" poster on my wall. It's never not the right time for the Beastie Boys.
First time listening to this whole album, and that's a mistake. This is where Southern Man happened. What an album.
Absolute classic and one I should revisit more often.
This is a very good album and Santana is a very good guitar player.
The Clash, to me, both defined punk (certainly later 70s-80s) but also were always something a little different (and a little more?). Everyone sings "Lost in the Supermarket" when they go to the grocery store, right?
Joy Division - still not really my thing and this isn't even their best album.
I keep thinking I'll like her more. I dunno.
Pure nostalgia vote here.
One of the all time greatest. Take Five is a standard, but I love Blue Rondo a la Turk.
Wild Horses is probably my favourite Stones song, but I found this whole thing to be pretty great. Shoutout to Moonlight Mile (which I didn't realize was on this album).
I get the influence, but this drops off pretty significantly after the first two tracks and there's nothing here that's a "hell yeah" for me.
This album still holds up for me. Great listen for a quiet, rainy Saturday. Yes, the inspirations are pretty obvious. Yeah, it's an album with kind of "one note". And I'll never understand why people criticize bands for that. One of two VMP pressings that I'm sorry I missed.
Still not a Wings fan. I'm not sure I'd ever listened to this whole album but *wow* does it fall off after the title track.
It’s not my favourite Radiohead album, but maybe top 3? I like it more than I remembered.
This album made for a fantastic companion on my flight. I’ve listened to a bit of Ali Farka Touré, but I believe this is the first full album and I’m grateful for it.
The two hits on here are hits. Time After Time is an 80s classic. Otherwise, though, I'm not a huge fan.
This album is so good. I "inherited" my mom's mono vinyl and spent *hours* in the basement as a kid listening to this. It's a true classic and an album that plays so well as an *album*. Mean Mr Mustard -> Polythene Pam -> She Came In Through The Bathroom Window? *chefs kiss*
I like PJ Harvey. I don't love this album. I also once again find myself wondering "why this album"? I guess 1001 is a lot of albums.
The hits are classics. The rest is "meh".
I think maybe I don't know what shoegaze is? This felt louder and long. Not sure I'd revisit.
Pretty dark. Nothing really stood out though. Once again I find myself wondering "why this album?"
I'd play it again on a road trip
The singles are classics. It all feels so ... "of the time". An album I wouldn't turn off, but probably wouldn't otherwise sit down to listen to.
This is a tough album for me to rate. That A side is undeniable hits. The Money for Nothing opening guitar riff is legendary for a reason. Walk of Life is a great tune. In mid to late 80s, I was *just* starting to be aware of songs on the radio and the hits were all there. That said, the lyrics don't age well. And, the b-side is kind of a let down.
This is a fun album! None of their hits (that I was familiar with), but I love the "character sketches" (?) very reminiscent of some Abbey Road / White Album stuff. I dug it
I still don't get it with this Elvis.
Fun listen. Not sure I'd revisit.
I dig it and found the full album listen very enjoyable. The hits are still pretty great.
I remember liking this album more when it came out. Today's listening left me feeling much more "meh".
Well, this didn't hit for me. I know I had a Butthole Surfers CD back in the day, and I remember liking it a whole lot more than I liked this.
Not my favourite Curtis Mayfield for sure.
Once in a Lifetime is a great tune and the rest didn't really hit for me, but I'd listen again.
I dig this album... played a bunch of it on a recent road trip. I'm actually putting it on my discogs wantlist for the cover art. Janis is so good on so many tracks.
I liked this more than I thought I would... maybe I like the Stones more than I think I do?
Every song on here feels like it's a minute too long, which is rough when most of them are 3-4 minutes long.
I was not expecting to like this (based on the UB40 hits I remember), but this was good. Special shoutout to the reggae cover of Strange Fruit.
There's the historical influence and the nostalgia... then there's listening to this with 2025 ears...
Now *this* album holds up. That run of first 4 tracks still gives me chills.
I've never liked John Cale solo as much as i've liked Velvet Underground stuff.
This is one of the first bands I'd never even heard of, and ... not sure I'd come back to it. That said, "No Sympathy" got my attention.
The title track is a classic, but disco / R&B still isn't my genre. Also, the 1995 remaster has some not great remixes at the end.
Well. It starts real good, then it fades... making it overall pretty average. Not my fave White Stripes album.
Some really good covers... and it's Johnny Cash.
Yeah, can't give him more than a 1
Should spend more time with Billy Bragg. Good stuff
I don't know a lot of Nick Cave and I didn't know this album. I've definitely liked other stuff more than this.
I had no idea what to expect and was pleasantly surprised. I liked it a lot and would definitely revisit!
I still dig Sigur Ros. I have this album on vinyl. It's still haunting.
Another one I own on vinyl. Still a great album - I can't believe she was *19*. So raw and powerful.
I am realizing just how much music Nick Cave has created. I'd never heard this album before. Nothing really stood out to me but perfectly listenable.
I used to think that I might like Korn, but every time I would actually listen to a song I'd be underwhelmed. And then I listened to an entire album and ... well... now I don't feel like I ever have to wonder if I like Korn again.
I definitely have some nostalgic appreciation for Paul Simon - I don't remember if we had this album (I didn't recognize anything other than the hits) - so I was predisposed to rate this one well, but actually listening to a whole album was great. I assume we'll get Graceland too and I'm looking forward to it
I feel like I can always throw on a Creedence album and be happy about it. This seems to be considered the best of the 3 albums they released in '69 (also, they released *three* albums in '69), but I don't know that it's my favourite. Either way, have played, enjoyed playing and will play again.
Master of Puppets (the song) is still (I think) my favourite Metallica song. They have some great songs... but as an album there's a lot of "meh" too. So many of their songs just don't land for me.
Incredible album! I sometimes forget just how much (relatively straight ahead) blues rock Zeppelin does. Bonham was one of the greats (and a personal fave).
I don't think I've ever heard this album, and now I have and that's great
One keeps this from (ironically) being a one star rating from me.
I'm of the age where I don't think the impact of this album can be understated. I've heard it so many times, covered songs in bands, fought over the lyrics (before we had lyric websites). And, I still love it.
I was always lukewarm on the Smiths ... and just not crazy about Morrissey solo.
I only really knew Welcome to the Monkey House (and boy did I listen to a lot of that record for a while)... nothing here really grabbed me the same, but shout out to a song called "Cool as Kim Deal".
yet another band I like, but not (one of) the album(s) i *love* ... hope Piece of Cake shows up.
I could always listen to Count Basie... I vaguely remember learning he was "from" KC (where I spent much of my youth). He wasn't technically, but had a KC era and I didn't think anything cool came from there...
I've never heard this album... never even heard of the band before, but there were some fun moments. I'd revisit this
You know, if this had Dock of the Bay I could easily be convinced that it was a greatest hits album. Really great stuff
Well, I guess I got a chance to re-confirm that I don't really love the Cure.
I only recently started listening to more King Crimson (saw BEAT live and really dug it)... I'm no expert, but this is definitely a candidate for my favourite album of theirs.
Don't think I'd ever listened to Todd Rundgren before. Not sure I will again.
Definitely not my favourite Sabbath album, but surprisingly enjoyable. Changes still rules, but I forgot how pretty Laguna Sunrise is.
This one was tough to find? (maybe just in Canada?) anyway, worth the hunt.
I recognized more of this album than I thought I would. There's some fun tracks
Another band I'd never even heard of! It was fun for a lot of it... not totally my scene, but props to the quite good Suffragette City cover at the end.
I always enjoy Stevie Wonder songs, but I never think to listen - I never choose an album to put on. This was a nice excuse. So much talent and such upbeat songs.
I don't think I've ever sat down and listened to this whole album, but I feel like I knew the whole thing. This was really everywhere for a while. Still a lot of fun.
I don't know about this album. I liked Dookie a lot (pretty hot take there), but Green Day since then has never really landed for me. I don't think this album needed two 9 minute songs (he says as a fan of Rush & Tool). I think what saves it is a fond memory of my kid learning "Wake Me Up When September Ends" on guitar when they were little.
The hits are hits, but this whole album was very enjoyable.
One of the absolute best albums of all time.
It's never not the right time for the Beastie Boys.
I'm not actually sure what to make of this album. I was never a huge pink floyd fan (and the stuff I know is the usual - dark side & the wall - all post Syd). I don't know anything about the story other than what's on wikipedia. Listenable but not a love ... some definite "beatles" vibe but the outtakes at the end are ... odd? putting it in the middle and moving on.
Not really my style, but Summer Breeze is a super catchy tune.
While I like Miseducation more, this album introduced me to Lauryn Hill. It's a classic.
This was brand new to me and quite pleasant.
Another brand new to me album and artist. I enjoy a slow haunting vibe ... nothing really stood out on first listen, but was perfectly listenable.
