Amy WinehouseIt’s a good debut but I like the follow up better. She was a great performer and a rare talent. It’s a real shame that she was let down by everyone in her life. Despite the turmoil, her music endures. I love her so much.

This is a really great album. The label was going to drop them if they couldn’t make a commercially viable record. They said fuck it and put everything into this. This is the album that gained their following. Standouts include Passage To Bangkok, Twilight Zone and Something For Nothing
This album is pretty lame. I’m giving it three stars on the the strength of Changes, Pretty Things and Life On Mars. Otherwise it’s folky and it doesn’t rock
Not sure why they chose to do a double album. There are some good songs but several are skippable.
I love Dave Grohl but I never loved this band. I always thought they were too poppy. Maybe I just didn’t like the singles. After listening again I like Alone+Easy Target, Floaty, Weenie Beenie, Oh George, X-Static and Exhausted. Oh shit! I just realized I misjudged this album and now I have to give it 4 stars. Well done Dave!
I am embarrassed that I have never listened to this album. I’m have heard the singles so many times that I can sing along but I’ve always been dismissive of Elton John. He wasn’t Metal/PVNK enough. It takes a big man to admit he was wrong and let me tell you something Buddy: I was wrong. This album is a start to finish masterpiece. Bernie Taupin and Elton John are as capable as any other great songwriting duo in Rock ‘N Roll 5 STARS!
I don’t get the point of the first track but Breakdown is probably my favorite Tom Petty song. A friend once told me that it’s impossible for a Rock ‘N Roll fan to dislike this band. I don’t think I have ever listened to an entire Heartbreakers’ album but this is pretty good on the first listen. Also, I had no idea that American Girl was so early
This is my 3rd favorite Beastie Boys album. I don’t listen to it much anymore but every time I do it gets better. Side 2 is amazing with great instrumentals. This is also MCA’s best work. Standouts include Get It Together, The Update, Futterman’s Rule, Heart Attack Man, and Bodhisattva Vow.
This is not my kind of music but it sounds really good. The songs are well written and the production values are good. She has a fantastic voice and it’s really up lifting. I’ll probably never listen to this record again but I would recommend it to anyone who is into Folk.
I was initially disappointed when this album was revealed. I thought I was going to have to listen to Hee Haw. I was wrong again. Buck Owens is a great singer/songwriter. I would probably buy this album if the price was right. I can’t wait to see where may algorithm goes after this record.
Where do I start? Elvis is arguably the best American performer ever. This is the birth of Rock N Roll but it was a couple of decades before I was born. My first reaction is to dismiss this out of hand. This musics sounds primitive but I feel like I need to listen to this album like it was new. I know that adults were horrified but the kids went apeshit over this. It sounds dated and tame today but this must have been as impactful as Nirvana. I like the cultural impact of Elvis but his music doesn’t do much for me. I would argue that he’s the sexiest man who ever lived though.
The only Herbie Hancock song I knew was Rockit. I always loved it because I was into early 80s rap and break dancing. I guess I avoided his music because I assumed it was mostly Jazz. This album is great - it’s really funky and smooth. Every song is great and loaded with hooks. I would definitely buy a physical copy and listen to it somewhat regularly.
I always felt like this band was not for me. Probably because I don’t like Love Will Tear Us Apart Again. I discovered this album a few years ago and finally got into it. Standouts are Day Of The Lords, Candidate, She’s Lost Control, Shadowplay, and I Remember Nothing. It also bears mentioning that this is one of the best album covers ever.
This one was fine. I didn’t hate it but didn’t love it either.
Whatever. “Charles” is a dick and Kim Deal is a saint. I suppose I understand why people love this band but if I’m comparing Frank Black to Bob Mould, it’s going to be Bob every single time.
This album is a tedious chore. No thank you
I love Neil Young. I love Buffalo Springfield, and Crosby Stills Nash and Young. That said, Im not sure how I have never heard of this album and I would bet money that Jack White and Violent Femmes love it. I would buy a copy of this record and listen to it regularly. This album is amazing.
I wish my grandmother was still alive so I could ask her about this.
This one feels derivative of Big Star. It’s not terrible but it’s not great either. I kept expecting something as cool as their collaboration with De La Soul but it never happened. I will never listen to this album again because frankly, it’s boring. I couldn’t even finish it.
I’ve been listening to this since it came out. It’s a perfect record and I love it.
I’m sorry but I cannot listen to this. I would rate this negative stars if I could.
Alright, I’m conflicted. I used to worship this record. I mean, what’s not to like? The Chili Peppers at their peak? Rick Rubin at his peak? A band that helped define the sound and culture of the 90s? I still love this motherfucker so much. Having said all of that, Anthony and Flea have shown the world that they are complete douche bags. I’m giving this album 5 stars because it deserves it but sincerely from the bottom of my heart, fuck the Chili Peppers. This is record is a fucking masterpiece.
I remember hearing this album a lot when it came out. I think every woman that I knew was into it. It’s a really good musical choice for mixed company. The songwriting is great. Her vocals are magically soothing and her band is tight. I would recommend this album to anyone who told me that they were into singer songwriters. I would give it more stars if it had more hot licks and bass solos. Also, she seems like a lovely person.
It sounds like a lot of other bands playing in the early 90s. Pretty generic sounding. Not great but not terrible either.
No. Fuck no. Why isn’t there a negative star option? Maybe we could get the option to use it 10 times? I will tell this brothers and sisters, if I only could have one I would use it on this album.
I like this one. It’s different yet oddly familiar. There’s elements of Blur, Peter Gabriel, and Radiohead. I would like to explore this catalog.
This reminds me of my mom. I have heard this album so many times it’s become background music. She was a huge Stevie Nicks fan but I have always preferred Christine Perfect. Dreams, The Chain, and Gold Dust Woman are the standouts. Also Stevie Nicks shot cocaine into her butthole. Allegedly.
I love this band. I had never heard an entire album before - only compilations. I would buy a copy of this.
This was part of the soundtrack of my life for a couple of years. How does a two piece get such a large and full sound? People shit on Meg White for not being a good drummer but they’re wrong. She keeps the beat and lays down a fat bottom. This album rocks so hard. Every single song is a standout. Listening to this after so many years flooded me with nostalgia.
What even is this? This is so all over the place. Is it Jazz? Is it Swing? Is it Trip Hop? I have no idea but it’s weird in a good way. I was so intrigued and engrossed listening to this album. It was like modern Leonard Cohen. I will definitely recommend and listen to this again.
It’s really good. I love his voice and his authenticity. It’s emotional and compelling. At first I was dismissive but every song is better than the last. Nick Cave is a cross between Bukowski, Leonard Cohen, and Tom Waits.
It’s a good debut but I like the follow up better. She was a great performer and a rare talent. It’s a real shame that she was let down by everyone in her life. Despite the turmoil, her music endures. I love her so much.
Sigh, this band used to be really good. This one is OK I guess. Most of the songs have the same goofy cadence and why do they all seem to be about California? Parallel Universe is pretty good, otherwise I would have given this one 2 stars. Emit Remmus and Savior are pretty good too.
I’ve always liked this band but I had never listened to a full album. This is good though. It’s moody but compelling. I really like the title track, Heads Will Roll, and Bluer Skies.
I can’t tell if this is Bass & Drums or House or Jungle or what the fuck. One thing I do know it this is boppin’. I wasn’t really into this kind of music back then but I did some drugs. Which is to say that the only way that this record could be better is with drugs. This is perfect . 5 Motherfucking stars. I would give it 6 if I was on drugs. Last question, is this Trip-Hop?
This one brings back a flood of memories. My ex wife used to love this record and it’s really held up. I’m not sure if I love it because it’s so good or because of the nostalgia. Either way, 4 stars.
No thank you. Bruce Springsteen doesn’t sign my paychecks.
This is really good. I recognized a few of these songs from my youth and Classic Rock radio. I’m more a fan of the earlier stuff than the Peter Cetera era. Poem 58 is a great song.
I am so confused. Initially, I wanted to dismiss this out of hand but I can’t turn it off. It’s cheesy but it’d compelling…Oops, wrong record. Apparently no one has ever told this guy that there are more words than tubular and bells. Anyway, this is horror soundtrack music and I mean that in the most respectful way. I know that this dude was in an interview one time and said “Who’s Frank Zappa?” I can’t even describe this. I love an artist or band that can’t be categorized and he’s the best example I have heard. I am 100% certain that Mike Patton loves this album. This has to be parody. If so, it’s genius.
I had this on cassette when I was in 7th grade. I listened to it a lot but I don’t really remember most of these songs. I feel like I only listened so much because I had so few other choices. This album represents the beginning of the end for The Police. Frankly, it’s kind of stupid.
This is fine but it’s not my cup of tea.
This album is so fucking good. I listened to it every day for a year when it came out. I gave this to friends every time there was a gift giving opportunity. I love it. Every song kicks ass. Every single one could have been a single. It may be the best album of the decade.
This is weird and experimental but it’s not for me. I like how upbeat it is therefore I’m giving it an extra star because I appreciate the risk taking. I wonder how Bad Brains felt about this band.
I really enjoyed this
Metallica used to be my favorite band. Then they hired Bob Rock to produce this. The Black Album was the beginning of the end. Good for them for the commercial success but it’s not for me.
Damn, this hits pretty hard for Folk music. I have always like what I heard from Cat Stevens. I had never listened to an entire album though. I remember being surprised when he became Muslim and denounced all of his music. It has really held up well.
I am not a Smiths fan at all but I kind of like this. Why is Morrisey is so whiny? I like Johnny Marr and the rhythm section is great too. I wonder if Morrisey would be less insufferable if he ate a pork chop. The two standouts are That Joke Isn’t Funny Anymore and Barbarism Begins At Home.
I’m not sure what to make of this. It’s kind of boring but it doesn’t totally suck. I’m trying to figure out what kind of person this appeals to. Don’t love it, don’t hate it.
