1001 Albums Summary

Not for me

Not for me

Holy God, that guitar solo! Hendrix-esque cosmic blues that goes on forever and ever. Would easily rank #1 favorite if it were only spoken word poetry followed by a 15 minute Eddie Hazel solo, over and over, on a triple album.

I've never liked Blonde on Blonde, he drank too much of his own bathwater by this point.

More Glam Rock concept albums please

Ogre Battle is great.

Malibu is a great Sheryl Crow song. And Courtney Love's voice is powerful and gritty. But of all the alternative albums, why is this one on the list?!

Not for me

Grand Daddy Daft Punk

Fun album

Alternative with classic rock elements, and none of it laid on too thick. The first happy surprise in the 1001

This was probably hot shit at the time, but now just sounds like ringtones

Not for me

This hit so hard as an angry kid. Now it sounds flat and obnoxious, especially since all of these guys are getting rich talking about taking down the system.

Anhedonia, the album.

John Lee Hooker is the greatest, BB King's albums are always a miss

Richard III is great.

Not for me

Cool, just wish I knew what he was saying

Porcelain is great. Otherwise it's just Moby ripping off more talented musicians.

Fun

Pure 1960s

French Shoegaze, not bad

I get it. ha. ha. ha.

10 stars

The novelty of Johnny Cash covering modern songs wore off 20 years ago.

I love Lady Day but have never liked this album. Her voice is gone, the orchestral swell attempts to cover and carry it all forward. The album on the whole feels like death tourism.

Bowie in full Gonzo mode, Where Are We Now is one of my favorite songs.

Lovely compositions, but the singing is hit or miss.

Two timeless songs, good shoegaze overall

Sea Change is a top 5 all timer, the rest of his albums are jokey, Gen X sarcastic slacker garbage.

Pitchfork strikes out again

Good stuff, but not for me.

Nice album cover, asshole.

"The corners were our Taj Majal"...GTFOOH.

Not for me.

10 Stars

Awful. This list is so Boomer coded.

Not for me.

Awful

Make the boomering end

Made my day

Not underrated

Hell is a never-ending Beastie Boys concert

Sounds like a YouTube AI generated album now

Oasis always sounded like a shitty grunge remix of the Beatles, never understood the hype

Legend.

Birth of the Corny. Wish the compilers of the list would limit each artist to one album maximum, for Miles maybe 2, and this shouldn't be one of them.

Not for me

Patrick Bateman would love this album.

Bad streak lately

Ugh.

Only knew Billy Joel from the singles, this album is 10 stars.

Fun skiffle

Fun, sounds like gallimaufry of the Stones, Iggy Pop, and Lou Reed.

Duh duh duh duh DUM DUM DUM duh duh duh duh DUM DUM DUM

Amazing. Knew him from the singles, had never heard the full album before.

This book is fast becoming the handful of albums you must hear before you die.

Pleasant

Since I Left You by The Avalanches is an all time favorite album, so am not against entire albums of sampling. Listened to this a few times over the years, and there's just nothing that connects for me on this album.

Genuinely surprised this isn't a Sacha Baron Cohen character. "No means yes". Ewwwwwwwww

Heard some Sabbath licks throughout the album, glad they fessed up with an Iron Man cover. Surprised they were just a one hit wonder since the entire album carries the same vibe as Lovefool.

Heart of Gold is a top ten song. The rest of the album is typical of Young's solo work: not for me.

As good as Pet Sounds

Early 2000s shopping mall music.

Velvet Underground wannabes

A hangout album

Pleasant surprise

What a back loaded album, but no need to listen again

Pleasant, Eurythmics 2.0 mall music

Fuck, two Smiths albums in the same week, getting dunked on by this list.

Sheer Heart Attack is one of the best albums by any rock band, and I don't like this followup.

Pleasant

I know this makes me basic, but this is a top 5 album.

Blackface, the album

Solid demo tape. Singalong Junk is a new favorite song.

Neat

Ugh. Harry Belafonte didn't make the list, but this did?!

This album will make you go WTF, and not in a good way.

90s soundtrack

I've tried to like this album with a half dozen listens over a few years, it just won't take.

Loved this as a moody teenager, if you're on the wavelength of any song on the album you'll love them all. I'm just not on the wavelength anymore.

Think I'm in love

Pleasant, but this list becomes weirder and more scattershot by the day.

T. Rex kills it again

Seems there were a hundred bands like this in the late 90s.

Meh.

10 Stars, the BEST solo Beatles album by a mile.

Love Creedence, but this list has 3 albums. Would've been better to just have Chronicle.

The timing of this album out of 1001 is uncanny. We miss you dolly.

Definitely!

Pleasant

Love this

Awful

Awful

Ugh

10 stars

Genuinely surprised, I hated his cabaret album, but this one was great

Well I'm Ba-ah-ay-ah-ack

The most misleading cover of all time

10 stars

Afrofuturist funk isn't my jam

Pleasant. Not for me.

I hate rap

My All is top five songs
