1001 Albums Summary

I sighed when I got this as my first album for this random generator. I had my teen / early 20s pretentious bias at a time when I was trying to find my own music. Listening to it now I can admit the bangers that this album had in the front half. Second half isn't much more than an OK.

Classics and less known greats. The dynamic range of the music is amazing and I found myself bobbing my head or humming along to all of the album.

Definitely one of the most easy listening album of reggae. I enjoyed putting on in the background while working

Parts of the origins of blues / rock. Not something I actively listened to but nice to have on in the background.

Some absolute bangers outside of the well known tracks. Interludes are unnecessary and don't really add much, and cause the album to be longer without any purpose

Wow! This album absolutely slaps! Amazing blues rock tunes which you can get lost in.

Classic prog rock. More of a set and forget kind of thing unless you're really into it. Reminds me of my youth.

Soft rock dreamscape.

I really tried to get through this album but it was just the same thing - a song with a couple riffs repeated and droning voice.

Yes it's noisy and messy but I hear so many foundations of influence for 90s punk bands. Very akin to Nirvana in some places too.

This album is long and some of it has fillers. If you look past the length there are some absolutely catchy & sometimes hilarious songs. Im a fan of songs not being taken too seriously, and a lot of this hit the mark. "Fido your leash is too long..."

Classic rock album. Atmosphere of the live performance adds to the overall vibe.

Ok album. Backing tracks of 90s rap are always great remixs.

Never really listened to Elvis Costello. Decent backing music and story telling. A bit monotone in singing, but enjoyed parts of it.

The album is definitely one that you could put on in the background in mixed company and no one would really complain. Nothing spectacular.

Just doesn't sound like much more than prog rock. I normally like prog rock but it doesn't stand out as an album to me.

Nope, I tried. I really did. My rule is listen through minimum 2/3, and skim through last songs if I'm not vibing. And this just irritated me to no end.

Very 2000s. Takes me back to my youth but wasn't really my vibe at the time.

Epic classic. Great background or sit down and focus on the rock opera kind of album.

Some good songs, but most are just early raga rock which was gaining prominence at the time in the psychodelic bands.

General style is something I enjoy, and I can see the potential that Le Tigre eventually became but it's not quite there yet.

I knew of Wu Tang Clan when I was younger but never really connected their music to them. Wow, fantastic album. An absolute classic.

A great acoustic folk-rock album with simple, steady beats and no flashy production. Her deep voice and excellent storytelling just draw you in and keep you listening.

Interesting. Catchy, boppy and some weirdness that you don't tend to get on modern albums.

This is kind of what I want prog rock to be. Also some proto-chill hop vibes. Very cool album.

A bit becomes my young adult years so probably not something I was massively into, but I get it for the pre-drill foundation.

The heaviest of metal 🤘 Nothing overly exciting for me.

I hadn't heard this before other than Parachutes & Yellow (obviously). Pretty good first album.

I heard of Massive Attack but never really gave them a look in but this album is excellent downtempo for feeling rhythm and chill.

Listening to this with context of a "ballet" definitely makes it logical in the style. Does it mean that I like it? No. Can I appreciate it for what it is? Sure.

Classics that I did realise were Meatloaf. Probably a bit of a misleading cover but "don't judge a book" and all that.

They can't all be bangers but I do love the occasional country song.

Indie rock album. It's alright.

I didn't realise who steely Dan was until I heard this album. Definitely understand why listening to it is dadmaxxing, but guess I'm a dad now.

Piano. Yep, that's all I can think. Perfectly fine.

Pretty decent. I'm not saying it's amazing, but the blue eyed soul it's good.

For all the hype I hear about The Smiths, this definitely wasn't it.

Pivotal album for industrial rock.

I knew some of the songs already and the remainder were ok. Not my cup of tea but I can appreciate why it's so well regarded.

An interesting mix of psychedelic rock and the Portuguese language I wouldn't have thought I'd enjoy. Some songs were good, others ok. Not something I'd share with others but I'd be ok if a random song came on in my mix.

This is the kind of album that transcends a person's genre preferences and everyone can appreciate it for the energy and smooth jazz it is

Hall of fame classic rock album

You hate jazz? This is peak jazz but actually listenable despite all the different time signatures. Plus it has 'Take Five' one of the most popular jazz songs on it.

Not really for me. There are much better cuban folk / jazz albums.

Fantastic album that makes me feel like I'm in a chill dream land. For that downtempo electronica album, I'd be recommending this to friends.

I appreciate this album for what it is which is classic heavy metal, but it sounds too much of the same to my non-metal ears

Hard to not love Dolly Parton and everything she does. Just depends on your mood and what you're after in terms of country music. This album wouldn't be my favourite but it still sits high on my list.

I was skeptical after having Ice Cube's first album for this project. However, pleasantly surprised by the groove of the album. A bit dates in some of the themes, but other fun.

Expansive and emotive sound. Very post rock, and at times hard to not feel. Strange given it's not in any particular language. Slightly too long in some points, but an album to listen to when you have time.

One of those albums where you think you know what youre in for, but it does a change up and you're hearing proto-blues rock / pop-rock. Wow!

I thought I knew what Jurassic 5 music sounded like... I was completely off base, this is an amazing alt hip hop album. It even has Nelly Furtado. Late 90s / early 2000s classic.

Definitely a bit more of an experimental change to their usual style.

This is the lesser known music that I signed up for, not a white man's nostalgia for psychedelic days that I've been getting lately.

Typical for the era. Paint it black probably the best known song on this album.

A bit "I'm a voodoo man" sort of thing. It just reminds me of Disney caricatures of new Orleans or similar.
