Not a fan of this album although I think The Who are amongst the greatest bands ever. Doesn’t need the live repeat.

Really wanted to like this album. Didn’t. One good track raised it from a single star.

Tried to forget it was Coldplay so I could be objective. The first 2 tracks are good.

Wasn’t looking forward to this one. Loved it!! Good old rock & roll. Yeah I know that it’s a bit of an AC/DC ripoff but doesn’t try to take itself too seriously.

Classic. Perfect for summer listening.

I wish they’d left this behind! U2 at their worst. Inane lyrics with a nice middle of the road sound.

Disc1 was a bit too samey for me in a ‘Happy Clappy’ way. Disc 2 was much better

Certainly their most commercial album. They got to play their guitars on the MTV. Not their best album but still pretty solid.

Ersatz rebels. Music is too polished. Great production though.

Forgot just how good this is. There is no let up in the assault on the ears. Took me back to adolescence again.

Can’t believe that this album is over 20 years old. A proper classic with no filler tracks. What a talent Amy was.

Sophisticated pop

Thought it was rubbish when it came out. Haven’t changed my mind. Dark Side of the Moon it ain’t & the racist lyrics nowadays go way beyond satire. Even Comfortably Numb can’t save it from a single star.

Bit of an acquired taste. Not sure I completely have it.

When Bono discovered the power of the American dollar. Bland.

Not my genre normally. However, I really enjoyed this. Maybe a tad too long but still very good.

Never got The National. Sorry, nothing has changed since listening to this. Probably deserved a better score.

Was never going to reach the heights of the debut but difficult 2nd. album nailed. Some good tunes on here.

Not quite as bad as I originally thought. The last track is very Doors like. Made me listen to the first part again.

Good honest R&B with the addition of that wonderful voice.

Difficult one to score as it’s known as the first prog album so do I give it a little extra leeway? Posh hippy fare mainly. A lot more orchestral than I remember.

Classy jazz

This is not their best work in my opinion. One stand out track & the rest washed over me.

What a way to open an album! Unfortunately the rest of it was a bit hit & miss. Still 4+ though.

Biased as I played this to death back in the day. Still love it although not sure about the 3 extra tracks at the end.

Shows that African music is as diverse as any.

63 years old & still fresh sounding. 3 1/2 stars.

Didn’t listen to it all. The bit I listened to was typically Scott-Heron.

Their best album in my opinion. Just reaches 4 stars.

The best punk album ever

Oh those days of teenage angst! One of my favourite albums back then. Haven’t heard it for a few decades. Why not- I think it’s excellent.

There’s room in this world for good guitar based AOR.

Is a good album before adding the masterpiece that is ‘Freebird’

Sounds like Def Leppard trying to do Pearl Jam & failing miserably. Thankfully I never need to hear it again.

Clapton is at his best when playing traditional blues. Not everything hit its mark but it’s still a good album.

A pleasant foray into mid 70’s Americana. A couple of stand out tracks. You know the ones.

I understand that this album is very influential. It’s certainly ahead of its time. Some of the beats are really good but it’s not a genre of music I enjoy. Would I listen to it again. I’m afraid not

Not being a fan of ‘poodle rock’ I’d never heard of this group. Listening to this, I first thought that they were a spoof band in the Spinal Tap mould. Surely no one serious would write some of these awful songs. But no, they are a serious band. I laughed all the way through. They deserve the second star for their hilarious cover of ‘Should I stay or should I go’. So bad, it’s good!

Love the 3 albums before this one. Hate everything after this album. Dislike this album but recognise it as a decent piece of art.

A couple of decentish tracks near the end but this group are not for me I’m afraid.

I like a bit of drum & bass but a 2 hour assault on the ears was a bit much for me.

Strangely, this album seems to have aged better than the later album. Enjoyed it.

There might be better BB King albums IMHO but I could still listen to him all day.

Better than I was expecting. Lots of influences in here. Especially liked the instrumental.

I know there’s still way over 900 albums to go, including no doubt a lot of classics but I think you might struggle to better this one.

I have a problem in that I just don’t get any African music. Sorry, this album has not changed that.

I really do not like this sanitised formulaic crap. However I’m a big fan of a Hammond organ, so Smokin’ would have earned it a 2nd. star. Then I heard the last track. Atrocious!

A bit too Country for my taste but it’s OK

A album of mainly yacht rock. Musically adept but probably best used as background music in a lift. Forgotten most of it already.

‘Rosewood casket’ has a lot more poignancy after recent events. Really dislike traditional Country music but am giving it an extra star out of respect for Dolly

A new group on me. Funkier than most rap tunes, which is no bad thing as far as I’m concerned. I liked this album, even if the subject matter is a bit dubious for today’s taste.

Was nothing special

Say! Doesn’t that make you feel a lot better? If you don’t like this album, there’s something wrong with you. Admittedly It tails off a bit on (what was) side 2 but still brilliant fun music 40+ years on.

Competent pop tunes delivered well.

Pure punk energy. The loudest band I ever saw.

There is so much talent on show here. The subject is the usual ‘gangsta’ one of killing, threatening, misogyny & too much the N word (which if I say it, it’s racist). Spoils good tunes as they’re relegated to the background a lot of the time. Obviously too old

This album impressed me with its concept & the actual song content. Just shy of 4 stars.

An ethereal sound backed by Elizabeth Frazer’s beautiful voice. Could listen to this all day. My favourite Cocteau album.

First time played for a couple of decades at least. Excellent production & so many hits.

Has all the ingredients but left me cold in the main. In my opinion, got better after ‘Self Esteem’ but will I ever play it again. I doubt it.

Amazingly, I’ve never come across this band previously. I can only give this album a 3 star rating as it’s the first time I’ve heard anything by them. Has the capacity to be at least a 4 star band

Refreshing piece of acid house by one of the pioneers.

Need to be lying with a long drink by the pool watching the beautiful people to appreciate this fully. I wasn’t.

A band so way ahead of its time (very much like the other great band from Detroit at the time, The Stooges). The last track stops it from getting the maximum.

Hey-Ho. Another rap album! Was not expecting anything out of the ordinary. However, this is a triumph - extremely listenable.

Slightly disappointed overall. I normally look forward to listening to Steely Dan. Still a decent album though.

One of Britain’s best songwriters who doesn’t get the kudos he deserves, probably because he’s overtly political. Levi Stubbs’ tears is one of my top songs of all time.
