Ryan Michael Peters (born July 1, 1985), better known by the stage name Spose, is an American rapper from Wells, Maine. Although he began rapping in eighth grade, he did not pursue it as a career until after he graduated from Wells High School in 2004. As a youth, he started a rock band, The Frothy Four. Peters attended University of New Hampshire as an English major and later transferred to Suffolk University; however, he was offered a record deal when he was two classes from graduating and did not finish. Adopted the stage name Spose, he self-released his first album, Preposterously Dank in 2007. Spose released his ninth studio album, Get Rich Or Die Ryan on October 20th, 2021. It was announced to his personal YouTube channel on August 27th, 2021.
Okay who is friends with Spose
Seems like there a lot more going on here, than I had time to take in today. Iโm liking what I heard though, itโs got more of a punk ethos than a lot of the punk records on the original list. DIY but with talent and something to say. Iโll give it the benefit of the doubt and go 5 stars, to try and make sure I listen to more when I can find the time. Nice recommendation OP.
Dudes didn't have to be this lyrically masterful.
This was overall sort of forgettable. The definition of a 3 star album (for me)... ...EXCEPT "Dudes". That was an awesome song and I had to stop what I was doing and read the lyrics. What a banger. Great lyrics and samples. Rest of the album was not as good, but "Dudes" alone is worth an extra star. "Motherfuckers (Bring You Down)" was a fun song too.
What an insane, fascinating album; I have so many thoughts. First, spose music that is not called Iโm awesome is something I did not know existed. Second, this is one of the corniest rap albums Iโve ever listened to rivaling only tom Macdonald and hopsin. Third, itโs the most shallow and obvious โIโm gonna speak my mind on everything going on in the worldโ thatโs more of a window into Ryanโs psyche than anything Rather than just recount all of the dumb stuff he talks about Iโm gonna try to describe spose based on this album: Heโs a recently divorced father of four who really likes tennis and smoking weed. He apparently had a rough childhood (that I thought sonically sounded straight out of illmatic right before he name dropped nas) and struggles with mental health and being a father and seeing hot women on instagram. Rather than actually engage in politics he takes the teenage redditor position of โeveryoneโs evil and badโ Finally, he likes to think he respects women with a song dedicated to how cool they are then undermines that with literally every single bar on the Instagram model song. Normally, cringe like this wouldโve made me turn it off right away but the beats and flow were just good enough and the lyrics just funny and ridiculous enough that it kept me going through 96!! Minutes. Basically
Atrocious lyrics, like super bad
I canโt deny this LP has heart, but man is it dumb as fuck. Wouldโve loved to see the audio techโs face on some of the vocal takes here, and canโt imagine how much this guy spent on studio time to make nearly 100 minutes of Limp Bizkit revival meets AJR.
The music on this album is ok, but it's way too long. The first half "Get Rich" an alternative rock album, the second half "Die Ryan" a rap album. The performance and songs are nice, but the lyrics fail. Even considering they are supposed to be funny a lot of the time, they are shallow and all about frustration and blaming others.
I think I was turned off by Spose due to his silly music video's but listening to Get Rich or Die Ryan has been fun. I'll check out some of his other albums/EP's based on this reintroduction.
Not sure this needed to be 90+ minutes long. Especially since this guy rapped about being a dad of 4 kids for a quarter of the songs. I know more about this guys life than most of my coworkers. Lyrically he has skills and combines humor within the raps that make it entertaining at times. Several of the songs also offer some unique perspective that you donโt hear much in rap. Overall it was decent for as corny as some of it was. 6.3/10
Rating: 6/10
The 2 parts are really different. I likes the first part, but was a bit disappointed hearing the second, expecting more of the same
90+ minutes? I guess it better be good... Got around to listening to this today. Some of it was pretty good. But man it went on for far too long. I feel like a strong editorial hand might help here. Not a fan but I donโt hate it.
From reading the description I expected to be annoyed by this, but it really wasn't what I expected, and though it's not really my kind of thing, it had some interesting things going on musically and lyrically.
Comedy hip hop, alternative hip hop, hipster hop. Ni fu ni fa.
A very long, very variable (quality wise) album
Iโm glad o didnโt check how long the album was before I started because I would have gone in with a bad attitude. I was 3/4 through before that attitude kicked in, and by then it was too late. I liked Dudes.
There are flashes of something interesting here, but man, do I find Spose's vocal annoying. Also, yes, it's way too long.
Second disc elevated this to a 2
Hearing a bar about "sus amogus" 90 fucking minutes into this godforsaken album felt like biting the curb. It's not horrible. The flows are pretty good at times, but Jesus Christ, this has to be the corniest shit I've ever heard in my life.
Sorry not for me.
Okay in places, occasionally weird, also genuinely terrible in places. Mostly completely unremarkable, but a wide variety of unremarkable. To the user who shared this: congrats on finishing as user #420.
Like the music made by high school kids who think they're cool
This looks like it's gonna be dumb. Oh and it goes for an hour and a half lol. Not fuckin likely. I'll listen to disc 1. Oh Christ, really? This is fucking lame. It raps, it rocks, it sucks. Why would you waste your album choice on this troll attempt? 1/5.
Cheesy af
96 minutes. Fuck you.
