Interesting that Damon Albarn did music before gorillaz. Had no idea. Kind of a mixed album, some good songs but plenty that just seemed goofy and were not that interesting. Pretty weak album in the majority. 2 stars
Not my favourite genre of music, but pretty cool. Not every song was an absolute bop for me but definitely had catchy moments. 3 stars
meh 3 stars, dragging and meandering at times. Neil's voice also just doesn't do it for me. will rate 3 stars from now on if I would choose to listen to this album again in future, 2 if would not choose to listen to this album except circumstances (recognizing that an album is representative of a genre etc) 1 star is will never listen again.
A strong 3 stars, pretty fun
Pretty fun stuff, will likely revisit. Some really good early metal. Got into the groove more as the album went. 4 stars
Verry cool stuff, kinda my style of music so I'm gonna inflate the rating on this one. 3 or 4 stars - probably a 3.5
Cool album, would like to dig more into this artist's catalog - grew on me with the lush and layered instrumentation - 3.5 stars
Never heard of them - kinda good, pretty standard. Some stinkers in the second half. Probably won't intentionally listen again. I think you had to be alive in '96 to enjoy this one. 2 stars, just not my thing
Some songs that I've heard but never knew the artist. I think a lot of these songs I've heard too often to really evaluate, but they aren't bad. Some of the instrumentation is a bit dated to me, and takes away from chapman's voice. 3 stars
Only ever listened to "what's going on" but I always liked that album. Wow this is a super horny album, but amazing instrumentation. Not prepared for how explicit "you sure love to ball" would be at the beginning. 4 stars
4 Stars probably, quintessential highschool album of the ages. Fuck morrissey. Even though the specific references were arcane to me as a teen, I liked the obvious rebellion. Also the first time that I heard Oscar Wilde's name. 4 stars
Hated this album at first because I heard it was punk and then I found it too lyrical and well-instrumented for my liking. Changed my expectations and now I really enjoy it. So theatrical and varied, a challenge to the preexisting notions of punk rock itself which is pretty punk. 4 stars
Never heard this one before. Not my favourite album of hers musically, but I really enjoy the writing. Ok I take it back it's got Jaco and it's starting to grow on me. 4 stars
Hadn't heard this one before. Doesn't really hook me - 3 stars.
Never heard it. Some cool sounds but a bit repetitive. I guess Brimful of Asha is the standout track of this album, but I found it a bit repetitive. I do like the creative instrumentation with horns and sitar on some tracks. For me - We're in your corner is a 4 star standout, despite my suspicion that they're butchering whatever language they're speaking. A lot of filler on this album in general though. 3 stars because of some good tracks
Never heard this band. Pretty grating stuff so far, not for a big reason. Not a big fan of the vocals, lyrics or instrumentation. second song is better than first. Lyrics are inane but not even in a punk/cool way. Songs will have good moments sometimes but will be ruined by something. Maps is an ok song but a complete shift from the rest. Not the worst but won't intentionally listen again - 3 stars
Only really listened to the title track, we'll see if I agree with the dude. Other than the title track which is good for testing audio equiment, the eagles suck. 2 star album, pretty bland except for the title track.
4 stars, never listened to the b boys before - fun East coast sound. Great sampling.
Absolute Classic. Beautiful instrumentation and Nico's sonorous voice is such a good combo.
Interesting, wasn't expecting the more rock-focused songs. This album rips. Cool instrumentation. 3.5 stars
kinda interesting and funny at times, kinda drags - 2 stars probably. musicality is uninteresting
Never heard before. Nice, not sure how I feel about the mastering - feels like it really wants to pop but the sound isn't there. Nice album 3 stars
As much as I don't like Neil Young, I like this one. Great instrumentation and songwriting - 4 stars
Pretty cool album, not sure I'd listened to it the whole way before. I think congratsulations is a better album, but I can see how this one was also ground breaking. 4 stars
never heard this one - not my fav from KB but has some good songs 3.5 stars (3)
jeez this album is 72min - stan is a good song, 1 star because of the effect this album has had on white guys.
A nice album, listened to this one in highschool after his next one came out. 3.5 stars
It's listenable, kinda cool moments. Neptune city is a great track - 3 stars
A nice grunge sound on some tracks - maybe riot grrl too? 3 stars.
Never listened to common. The instrumentals are great. Plenty of good tracks. 3.5 stars.
2.5 stars - not actively awful just not very interesting to me
I dig this album a lot actually. Very cool 90s sound. 4 stars
I dig it, but not absolutely hooked - 3.5?
Pretty hype. Never noticed the velvet underground influence before. - 4 stars
Never intentionally listened to Billy Joel. Great catchy and story-driven songs. 4 stars
Very cool, I dig it. Will definitely come back to this one - 4 stars.
2 stars, nothing really special to me about this one. I see that it's a part of overall hiphop trends of the 90s but nothing really jazzes me.
Hype hype hype, slaps. 4.5 stars
I want to like this album, but it might be too new-wave-y for me. Not really catchy in the way that the talking heads are. Caligari's mirror is nice and there are catchy moments to this album- the rest is kind of a stew that I can't get into. 2 stars
Pretty hype but a bit repetitive, 3stars
Very cool texture. Never listened to Cubop, but I should. 4 stars
mega first-year-university album for me. Good stuff. 4 stars
4.5 stars. Formative highschool album.
Never heard this one. not bad but feels less refined that their big 3 albums. 3.5 stars
3.5 stars. springsteen is starting to grow on me.
3.5 stars - pretty cool, never listened before.
Catchy and fun, creative arrangement and instrumentation. Love art pop. Feel like Of Montreal can be tied back to this influence. Goldilocks level of progginess. Great sense of play (if your disc is slipping, do the sacro-iliac) great stuff. 4 stars.
Didn't grab me hugely but was pleasant - 3 stars
An edgy album for a teenage vegetarian, shame it's morrissey tho 3 stars
Extremely formational album for me as a teen. Had this CD in the car and would blast phantom pt1-2. - 4.5 stars
Very interesting album. To be honest I would rather hear the cool music Suba is sampling, but I do think the texture of this album is very interesting. 3 stars
A nice album, didn't hook me totally but is a cool blend of styles and influences. 3 stars.
Pretty good, but not as good as alex's stuff with the arctic monkeys 3 stars
Never listened to beck. I only knew that he did the scott pilgrim soundtrack. some nice tracks in the middle. Not bad, 3 stars
2.5 stars, vocals don't always do it for me. Kinda nice.
Some nice songs, never listened. 3.5 stars
I cringed when I saw this one come up, but it's actually not awful. 2.5 stars.
Never listened to an AC/DC album but it's fun stuff - 4 stars
Really like the production of this one, cool stuff - 3.5 stars
Love minor threat- hadn't heard this one somehow. 4 stars
Really loved this album in late highschool/early university. 4 stars
pretty cool album, mastering a bit muddy at times - 3 stars
meh. Kinda indulgent and meandering. Feel like I need a potbelly to listen to this. 2 stars.
Surprised that this is the bad brains album selected for 1001. Not one that I'd listened to before. 3.5 stars
Doesn't really wow me, at first a bit mid. Rattlesnakes is cool though. 2st
Never actively listened to madonna. Really nice pop - 4 stars
5 stars - very formative album for me as a preteen/teen
Never listened to this Dylan album. Really excellent, surprised I'd never heard it. 4 stars, may grow into a 5 with time
Never heard the artist, kinda interesting. really insufferable at times. 2 stars
Never listened. Some cool moments but other guitar parts get tiring and the lyrics aren't great. 2.5 stars.
Kinda surprised by this one. Maybe I should watch the movie. It's a great soundtrack - will definitely revisit if I'm in the mood. 3.5 stars
I don't really like eminem, too many negative associations growing up in the aughts.
Pretty cool stuff, I like the folkier elements.
Have listened to this album but not enough, it's a nice one but I don't find it that cohesive. 3 stars
Tried listening in highschool but couldn't get into them. 2stars
Pretty fun pop punk, nothing super memorable though - 2.5 stars
Good album, but springsteen hasn't hooked me yet. 3 stars
A very melodramatic and overproduced album, but in a great way. 3 stars
An interesting idea for an album but it didn't really hook me. 2.5 stars
2 stars, not super compelling - a few songs that are decent and recognizable, but a really weak album.
Not very interesting to me. A few songs that I recognize but overall not a striking album. 2 stars
solid album, shangri-la is a great song among a few others 3 stars.
a 3.5 star beatles album. Although maybe this is me comparing the beatles to themselves and not objectively, oh well.
3 stars, definite classics. Phil spector's sound is extremely recognizable.
can't seem to get into springsteen - 3 stars
Nice, but didn't hook me - 3 stars
Not bad, but not something I'd choose to listen to - 3 stars
Some really great tracks, some that don't hook me - 3.5 stars
Andre's half of the album is really great - will definitely listen again - light 4 stars for the second half
Surprisingly listenable album - 3 stars
How did I miss this album? I love Elliott smith. This one's a bit of a mix it seems. 3 stars
Have known about this album for years, but never got into it. Still not totally into it but it's growing on me. 3 stars.
Very interesting production, can see how it would be influential. It just sounds a bit sloppy. Really like mind gardens tho - prob because it sounds like TISB. 3 stars I guess
never heard this bowie album - doesn't hook me at all. A light 3 stars
Have never really given this one a fair shot - 4 stars
Surprisingly never heard this one - I like it - 3 stars
First impression is dogshit. Has a bit of naive art charm but the beats are horrible. The last song is decent - maybe the terribleness of the beginning of the album is meant to show character growth? Not gonna give it the benefit of the doubt - 2 stars
5 stars, have loved this one since highschool
3 stars, some cool moments.
3 stars. I like bossa nova but this album doesn't really hook me. Something about the singing not being lively enough. It's nice, however.
