Sounds like if a supercomputer in a lab was tasked with making pop music, but still, kinda slaps

I was hoping to give this 1 star just to spite the millions of 45 year old guys on reddit who call hip hop ‘mumble crap’ and have vitriolic opinions on the star wars sequels, and proselytise this album wherever possible - buuut it wasn’t that bad. It also wasn’t ‘that’ good.

I was expecting worse after everything I’d seen here. But tbh, there were moments that didn’t feel too far off a film score or some ambient music, which is to say, not unpleasant. That being said, most of the album was challenging, and I don’t really want to listen again. But it was artistically interesting, particularly considering when it was released.

Some big slappers up front but tapered off towards the back.

I feel like I should’ve liked that more than I did. Maybe if I was a twenty something in London when it dropped it would have blown my mind, but I don’t know. I’m learning I’m not a massive trip hop head.

I’m convinced the author of this book would think to himself, ‘hmm, perhaps I should aim for greater representation. Shall I dip into the vast history of hip hop? Shall I pick one of the great jazz albums? I could, but I only like post-punk and new wave… fuck it, I'll just include a black punk band. Yyyep that’ll do. Anyway, had elvis costello released anything new since I started this train of thought?’
