A catchy dance rock album, for sure. Doesn't stay with me that much afterwards, but I certainly enjoyed myself. Karen O is a great frontwoman, the songs gave me a proper 2000s party vibe, and there's more to the Yeah Yeah Yeahs than just "Heads Will Roll".
Leuk album.
One good song and a bunch that hurt my head
The album is fine and some songs are catchy, but I can't stand Karen O's voice.
Yeah yeah yeahs: very modern, indie sound. Not really my cup of tea, and I’m not sure this album will be remembered and revered forever, but still pretty decent. Agree that her voice cuts through in a good way. Good variety too, which I feel like you don’t always get from other similar indie albums. 6.5/10.
Pleasant vanilla but not all that interesting.
The energy of the first tracks is, grabs your attention instant. The rest of the album is also a collection of nice songs, with good hooks and use of electronics. The second half the energy looks a little burned down. For example a song like "Dragon Queen" could easily be skipped, Overall a nice album 3/5
eh, okay
Average Electronic / Rock Music
Very fun, high octane album. Heads will role is over rated but Hysteric is an absolute bop
Very good
Haven't heard this in ages, good stuff
Great listen
I'd allow Karen O to peg me after those opening three
Ok
Heads Will Roll - all I can think about is those emos under the bridge Skeletons - W Runaway - W Hysteric - W
very solid recession-era pop
Okay
Easy to consume pop rock with an edge. Always a welcome listen.
Pense q iba a ser un hit y listo pero muy bien.
3.5/5. Has some bangers on here but the songs tend to run just slightly too long to maintain the fiery energy the Yeah Yeah Yeahs are capable of.
Yeah, yeah, yeah... it was okay, okay, okay.
Good
This was fairly groovy. Think "Skeletons" was my favorite. 3
was hesitant, actually a solid vibe. maybe like a 2009 barbie movie- Barbie and the Three Musketeers. Solid nostalgia and very frat flick-able. It's like if black sabbath's FX was mixed with U2's with or without you, and they made it 2009 barbie punk. Appreciate the addition of the acoustic versions. I usually like acoustic versions better, but not this time. I'm just going to ignore those in my rating of this album. 4
A bit indecisive on this one as I liked it quite a bit on some songs and was happy to discover Yeah Yeah Yeahs, but also was just ok background the rest of the time for me. Liked Zero, Skeletons, Runaway was really cool, overall pretty good like 3.5
I didn't feel particularly strongly about this either way. It sounded like generic 2000s indie.
I really enjoyed this. Obviously the hit (heads will roll) was awesome but the other songs were just fun and enjoyable. Will revisit this band, good vibes
full disclosure i didn't listen to the full album day of bc i was traveling. but i've listened to this album before, first on a super scratched up cd i got for free like two months ago. it slaps blasting while driving with the windows down. definitely wish that cd wasn't all scratched. but then i listened to the album in a more conventional fidelity experience and it holds up. rem automatic for the people is like *fine* on headphones and good blasting from a car. it's blitz is good on headphones and great blasting from a car. all that to say, i did not listen today, but 5/5.
5: I will happily play this album anytime 4: I may occasionally play this album of my own free will 3: I will happily listen to this if someone plays it in the background 2: I will tolerate this if it is playing in the background 1: I will leave the room if someone plays this in the background
Too slow and sad
The first album got a lot of praise but I didn't really love it, this on the other game is phenomenal. Loved the dynamic range and the distance they'd come from the first album
Fantastic dance rock
It’s okay. Never liked this era of indie music that much but this was pretty good. Heads Will Roll I’d my fav song of the album. Dull Life was my fav first listen
Catchy but maybe a bit one-note. "Dull Life" was less formulaic. 2.5 stars
This genre is not interesting to me, but it would be decent music for a spin class.
I don’t recall listening to this band at all prior to this. I’m impressed by the musicianship. The first two tracks seemed like they’d grow on me, but the rest of the album failed to stand out. It feels very generic for its time. When the first two tracks played again, I didn’t find myself nearly as captivated. I don’t think I’ll be returning to this one.
Loved it, so besonders und cool
Helt ok inget märkvärdigt. Det liksom bara flöt på.
Some nice variety and late 2000s vibes
Very of its time, but this is a fun collection of absolute bangers. My only complaint is that when looking up this album to listen to it, I had to see the album art for Mosquito and it is one of the worst things I have ever seen.
10/12 Was just okay
Knew a couple, but as a whole a nice album! I'll listen again!
Härligt med lite upptempo och inslag av oväsen
Had only heard heads will roll before but really enjoyed the rest of this album. A high 4 stars.
Another thing I had tagged as indie landfill that is much better than that! I broadly enjoyed this, every song individually was decent but I did find them a bit samey, particularly the drums which were a bit thin and simplistic.
Not bad I kinda fuck with it Maybe a 3.5; higher than a 3 but not quite a 4
Any of these songs could appear in GIRLS. I feel like the acoustic songs could have been sung by marni at a bar with a unnamed man sitting next to her on guitar, while Hannah and the others in the audience clapping along awkwardly. It just feels very much of its era. I didn't know Heads will roll was on this album until it came on. It was a good album and I enjoyed it more as it went on, but not sure I'd listen again.
By the time it hit 'Dragon Queen', I was really enjoying this album. Feels like it finds its feet and there's loads of nuance here which I wasn't really expecting from the track everyone knows. Still feel like it's not aged particularly well which is a common feature of albums from this era, particularly on the acoustic versions.
Not too bad, but there are definitely better albums of this genre out there. I'm happy I finally got to listen to something different sounding though, so I'll give it a 4.
I honestly didn't know they had started going so electronic this soon after their raucous rock beginnings. It works the majority of the time, there are some great indie sleaze tracks here and it really suits Karen O's vocals and attitude. Once again though, it seems like their slow-burners are the true standouts (Skeletons and Hysteric being the highlights), despite the in-your-face stuff being what got people's attention in the first place.
Without research I just know this was all over Made In Chelsea. Ok lol Heads Will Roll I KNOW it’s on Made In Chelsea So unbelievably 2000s I cringe more than I should do I’m sure this is better than I think it is.
..
puts, gostei muito! algumas faixas adorei e outras achei um pouco mais meh, porém é o tipo de álbum que sinto que eu amaria se ouvisse mais perto da época
algumas músicas gostei, outras mais ou menos, não é muito a minha praia
Another dance pop album guilty of the worst sin in music: being wholly boring. Not sure who else this album would be for besides people nostalgic for middle school dance playlists
This is such a fun album i love it, it’s like a mixture of mgmt and paramore, i might even listen to these songs on the regular
There are some cracking tracks on this, with the addition of synths really adding a lot to their sound. There are a few tracks where the level drops which stop it being a great album… but it isn’t far off.
There are times where I want this to just go a bit further. It eschews some of the angst and agularity of ‘fever to tell’ in favour of a more polished album, and although it’s one I still enjoy, there are times where I just want a little more grit. That said, the refinement and use of other instruments beyond guitar and drums does give the band a fuller, richer sound. I’m normally not one for extended or deluxe editions of albums but the version I listened to had some acoustic versions of some of the tracks on and stripping them back show how good the songs are in their own right (the acoustic version of ‘skeletons’ in particular I enjoyed).
This one put me off the first time I listened. I am much more familiar with later Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Somehow this earlier album didn’t hit right. But on the second time round it was much more in my ear. 4 Boolean: True
Really enjoyed this, was nice to have a female vocal, women so far feel vastly underrepresented in this list. Can see traces of punk and alt rock combining to give a fresher voice to a sometimes stale genre
I love being surprised by how much I liked something :) The acoustic tracks <3 Plus, listening to Heads Will Roll in October will never not feel right.
Yeah yeah...didn't know these songs in particular but know the style.
Zero - 4/5 Heads Will Roll - 4.5/5 Soft Shock - 4/5 Skeletons - 3.5/5 Dull Life - 3.5/5 Shame and Fortune - 3.5/5 Runaway - 3.5/5 Dragon Queen - 3.5/5 Hysteric - 3.5/5 Little Shadow - 3.5/5 If they had continued with the same energy they had with the first 3 songs on here, than this could have scored higher. But instead, it peters out and doesn't really get to the same heights as stuff like Heads Will Roll. Overall: 4/5 Favorites: Heads Will Roll
I was 17 when this came out and it's one of the reasons I consider 2009 to be my favorite year (I can clearly remember) in music. I would agree it doesn't differ too much from most indie albums that came out around the same time, except for Karen O's excellent singing. She's elevating the band even in its lowest moments, and songs like Runaway, Hysteric, and Heads Will Roll will always have a place in my heart and soul.
Zero is a great song, one of my favourites, but I don't think I've explored the rest of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs much. Having listened to the album, I enjoyed it a lot, with the minor criticism that a lot of the songs have similar structures - noisy, energetic, building to a climax. But is that so bad? Overall, some excellent electro-pop-rock.
3.2 Skipped Zero halfway through, it was annoying, Heads Will Roll was okay. After that it got better.
Clean powerful sound and voice. A couple tracks I really liked. Soft shock is a fantastic production!
Zzzzz
Fantastic record. A more mature bunch of songs than the previous 2 which were the sound of a rock band breaking through. This has a blend of creative guitar, electronics and mood. We see a variety of styles and ultimately it's their best album in my opinion. The beautiful 1-2 of 'soft shock' and 'skeletons' my highlight.
Liked this one quite a bit. 3/5
Fun and catchy songs. This album was very easy to listen to.
Kinda off balance in a weird way?
Good not, Great!!
Ну как будто лучше чем было с МГМТ
Another holy shit this was awesome album. I love holy shit this was awesome albums.
*South Park Bono voice* yeah yeah yeah!
La voz es buenísima
Loved it, I love their pop rock vibe so so so much, these tracks are so fun! I do hate Heads Will Roll for some reason, perhaps because I found it a tad overplayed. Another drop in the "their most famous song is not among their best songs" bucket. 4.5/5
Classic
Yeah Yeah Fucking Yeah
Buenos temas, heads with roll historico, me gusto mucho Dull Life. Siento que el disco arranco bien y fue decayendo bastante. 7/10
Meh
I don’t feel strongly about this either way. It’s not grating but it doesn’t stand out to me.
Perfect album
Gut

The music style remembers me Suzie Quattro … Once , I loved it very much, today I listen more to other music. However, I think I will save 3-4 songs. I can not really see the sense of the lyrics. Maybe 2.5
Favourite Songs: - heads will roll - runaway
Good music, not great music
Indie simples porém ouvível
Not ringing any bells. ----------------------------------------------------------- Zero is a choppy, punky, dance number with some funky synth aspects and powerful vocals. Heads Will Roll was instantly recognisable from the radio play it got at the time. This is the kind of tune I can get behind. Danceable, driving rhythm. Soft Shock is a dreamy 80's inspired comedown. Preferred the other tempo. Skeletons lacks meat on the bones. Dull Life is a powerful chanty little ditty with good energy through some catchy guitar riffs. Shame and Fortune has a throbbing bassline - feels almost industrial. Runaway is a piano power ballad with synthy twinkling. Dragon Queen takes us down a more funky and disco style with sighing vocals and repetitive guitar that loops. Hysteric - Horny. Little shadow is a nice little acoustic number to bring the album to a close. Overall this smells like lime wedges and corona, spilt on the dancefloor. 4*
The last one of theirs I heard was the Gold Lion EP, straight off their highly successful debut, fever to tell. I caught that tour and afterwards stopped listening to them, and they've shifted a bit to this album. It's got some good melodies, riffs, and codas, with some infused sweetness and less orgasming. Worth a listen.
This kind of feels like listening to some missing step in evolution. It's fun to hear how this really closes the bridge between the 2000's Alternative Rock and the 2010's Party music era sonically. It's more polished and more Party-ish than something like the White Stripes or Franz Ferdinand. Not entirely my thing, but enjoyable enough for a listen. Heads Will Roll is relaly cool and kind of feels out of place on here as well.
Cozy melodic alt pop! I like it
Yeah, not bad. But not sure I could love it. 5-6/10
Have I just loved the Yeah Yeah Yeahs this whole time and never knew it???
10/10
(3/1089) The beginning is quite strong, does have some bangers. But many of the subsequent songs feels mid - especially those that are at a more leisurely pace. Favorite: Zero, Heads Will Roll, Soft Shock, Dragon Queen Least favorite: Little Shadow 6/10
