Great album. Good playing seems like he was inspired and not chasing any trends on this album
Nods to his past while also looking forward. The music on The Stars are out tonight looks back to Moonage Daydream and China Girl while still being modern.
There is a vulnerability in his writing that maybe he was hinting at his end. It’s easy to read into the lyrics now after his passing.
Great playing. Good songs. A little overproduced with the weird sound effects in the songs. It seems like they are trying to hard to be more than just being a great band. A lot dad songs but I’m okay with that.
I also think this album is a victim of the time it came out. Radiohead was in full experimental mode so that really pushes people to do more.
This first piece was not for me but it seemed as I got past the first one the next two pieces were more to my liking. The playing is brilliant. Just beautiful music that is soulful and heartfelt. This is one of my favorite albums I have listened to so far. A cohesive brilliance harmony and melodies are evoking emotions in me that I can’t explain. A really good album. I could listen to it again.
I hear the prog rock. It’s okay. There are so many different things I hear as I listen to I hear some Bowie as I listen some Elton John and it all kind of works. I knew the name Supertramp more than I knew the music. Is it my favorite? No. Is it good? yes. I’m not going to add it to my playlist though. I’m glad I heard it.
If you only thought of The Red Hot Chili Peppers as Rap Rock or just funk it would a mistake. They hit their full power on this album writing beautiful songs and catchy songs. It seems like they were reaching for stardom they wanted to achieve and they arrived. Give it Away, Under the Bridge, Suck My Kiss, Breaking the Girl as main songs. But Keidis sang more which helped move away from the days of The Uplift Mofo Party Plan.
Zombie is an amazing record. Music is just so well done. You really get drawn in. Then come the lyrics. You really focus on the words because the groove is so good. This music caused a raid on his compound and a riot at a concert. Such power.
So if I would have guessed I would never thought that this is the same band who would write Come on, Eileen. The music is good. Not sure if I like the lyrics. I really am not a fan of the singing and he really is overselling the singing I guess according to wiki like Bryan Ferry because a band member didn’t like his original singing voice. I’m not a fan of this. But it was good to listen to.
Willie Colon and Ruben Blades created a masterpiece of an album. When I heard the opening of Plastico I thought they were dabbling in disco a bit before the salsa groove kicked in fully. Baldes’ lyrics speaking a sort of social commentary on material wealth. This is still relevant today. Most of these songs are timeless and just beautiful written. The music is played well arranged perfectly. I can see why this album is listed as the top on so many lists. It’s just so good.
A good album. Not sure if any one track stands out on the album. To me the album could be put on in the background and not really disturb the vibe of a party. Not sure if you can really dance to this but you can really hear the early 90s production in the music. Nothing wrong with as these some good times for me. But all the songs kind of sound like everything that was being released at the time. Nothing hits me on this albums like their earlier hits but that’s okay because bands are allowed to evolve. My October Symphony was good. I actually enjoyed the music on that one. So Hard picked up the bpms a bit. I read that the music would grow on me. I think I could see that and also that they were influenced by Depeche Mode. I can hear that as while. Not a bad album. I enjoyed it overall.
A really good album with a band who was finding their sound. I am glad I heard this album because I had only heard the bigger albums. I’m a fan of this album. It’s great. I think A Forest is goth paranoia at its finest
An interesting album because it was the first released after Richey Edwards went missing. I remember watching either a true crime thing about his disappearance or maybe a documentary. That is a sad story for another day but this is about the music. This is probably the second time I tried to listen to their music. The first was after having watched the documentary. I’m not sure I enjoyed it then or I should say it was not memorable to me. The music was like any other Britpop band that was around at the time. Maybe a little better lyrics but maybe not as I still listen to A Different Class today and I probably wouldn’t listen to this again. I listened three times today and nothing stuck with me. It could be the singer’s voice. If it doesn’t resonate with me then I won’t listen again. The music is good. I can say that but I guess I just can’t get into it.
My second time hearing this album fully through. It’s decent and I can understand the genius that goes into putting warmth into synthesizers. They gave them a feel. It wasn’t as robotic as it came off. Kraftwerk would be instrumental in early hip hop especially for Plant Rock. Afrika Bambaata found their music sampled and created an anthem that would be a staple in the electro genre. But on this album as I got to the Man-Machine. I was sitting racking my brain because I knew another hip hop group had used it in a very early song and turns out it was Rockin’ It from the Fearless Four. Kraftwerk are an important group. This album though was decent. I did not find it mind-blowing. But Kraftwerk and hip hop go hand in hand.
A good album. I remember listening to this so much when it came out. This reminds of Washington state because that’s where I bought it. Good music. Great video.
A brilliant album that captures a a soul singer at the height of his powers. Sam Cooke was masterful. He could sing the pop tunes like Cupid and Twisting the Night the Night Away but where this live album shines is it catches the emotions of the soul in songs like Somebody Have Mercy and Nothing Can Change this Love. You get the raw emotion. You also hear the crowd getting involved. This makes the recording seem more like an experience instead of just a record. Sam Cooke’s voice was perfect on this album.
Good album with good music. Interesting music styles.
A Gen X classic. Probably not my favorite Pearl Jam album but listening to this today reminded me of how good they were coming out from the very beginning. Yes, Stone and Jeff had Green River and Mother Love Bone to learn to write songs. They put it all together adding Mike McCready to the mix with Eddie on vocals. It all just worked. It sounded old and new at the same time. Just an amazing album. No skips on this album. I forgot how good it was until I listened today.
Not sure if I can really say I liked much about this album. Messages in a Bottle is good and Walking on the Moon is as well. The rest is just kind decent playing with bad lyrics.
I remember buying this album back when I was in Okinawa. I had heard My Name is and thought that this would actually be a great album. What I will say is that I was underwhelmed then. Yes Eminem can rhyme and rap but the album was just a bunch of shock and no substance. It got old real fast. Also it wasn’t entertaining. I was never a big fan and made through the album once or twice back then and never listened again. The topics were horrible. As I came back to the States he became a huge star and everyone was a fan. I just couldn’t listen. Listening today. I feel asleep twice with how boring his schtick is. His whining. His talk and content just is stupid. Is it a joke yes. Is it funny anymore? No. I don’t think his punchlines were always funny then. Some of his features back then were memorable but this album is way too long and not good.
Such a great debut album. The playing was so good. The lyrics were so good. The singles were so good. Just a great album. Criminal still sounds fresh.
Jimmy Page is such a great guitar player. His skill is fully on display on this album. I have never been a fan of their music but I know they are good. This album was a bit overlong. It could have done without the last few songs I believe. Kashmir is a huge song. But you could tell Jimmy Page wanted to play other stuff. There was a country style tune. But I know he played skiffle so it only makes sense. Page being a session player really shows his versatility when it comes to this album. I think this is a good album overall.
Here is an album that I never heard but have only heard the first song and remember it from the doots at the end. It’s memorable. CSN are known to have created to have established the califoysou d and I watched a documentary about Laurel Canyon where many of these songs were written I guess. Now they can all sing beautifully and play amazing music. The songs were just kind of okay. I was not blown away by any of it. I’m sure it was good when it came out. I guess the subject matter wasn’t for me.
Love is the reason I’m doing this. This is the third album that I’m genuinely blown away by. Is it a masterpiece? No but I find the music infectious. I could listen to this over and over again. Arthur Lee and band can write some killer songs. Orange Skies is pure pop bliss. Que Vida is as well. 7 and 7 is then comes in and rocks your socks off. Just an amazing album. I love Love.
I’m listening to this and I’m thinking it’s not bad. The rain and crashing waves over Leb’ Wohl was okay. Just kind of an interesting album. I can imagine this being mind-blowing in 1975. I do hear the bands they influenced especially J Spaceman and Spiritualized so I guess it’s not as bad as I thought. The first thing I thought of when I heard Hero David Bowie so maybe I do like this more than I realized.
Listening to this album and Brown Sugar plays. I remember the controversy around the lyrics as a kid. I heard them and I just shook my head. It’s just a cringy song. The music is okay but it’s whatever. Sure I have listened to many suspect things in my life but I have also gone back and realized it was terrible. Wild Horses is good. The album is really good. The album just rocks. There’s no denying that.
When I saw this album this morning I was transported to February 1987 to Fair Park Theater in Dallas where I saw the Beastie Boys play on the License to Ill tour. I was 12 years old. I was on the 2nd row from the stage and Murphy’s Law plays. They were a hardcore band from NYC that’s still around but then the next group gets on stage. A group of black dudes some with Mohawks and they were playing and it was the most mind blowing experience a 12 year old kid could have. They had a few songs at the time. They played their very first single “Party at Ground Zero”. It was amazing. I became a fan that day.
I waited and waited and finally this album was released. It opens with Freddie’s Dead and I’m in love with this album. It’s perfect. At the time I didn’t know it was a cover but I think they did Curtis Mayfield justice. Ma and Pa a song about works. All these songs work on this album. It was had social commentary with Slow Bus Movin’. Fishbone is a band that can’t be pigeonholed into one category and that’s what made this album perfect.
My first time listening to Bob Dylan. This album was long. The harmonica was overused. The music was good. I was expecting some mind blowing songs. The first was fun. There are good songs here. I don’t think this is for me. I can appreciate the heartbreak and lust on this album.
I bought the original CD based on Natural Blues because The End in Seattle played the song often. I liked the album at the time. But I was sitting here listening to the album thinking about how terrible this album is. The only reason we like it is because we hear it everywhere. It’s bad commercial music.
How are you so out of touch with music that you take the fun from a song like Willie and the Hand Jive. Most of the covers are lifeless. I have refused to listen to Eric Clapton because he is a racist. This album is not good. He is a great guitar player just not on this album. His singing is not good either.
I like this album way more than I should. I like the guitar playing. You can say what you want about being too much but I dig it. 4/5
The beauty in this album is in the instrumentation. Kate Bush was an innovator. She used samples in music and it improved the songs. Just beautiful songs all around.
A good album. You can the innovation in this album even if it might go on a bit long. 3/5
There are many albums that I haven’t heard in this world and this was one of them. I know who Leonard Cohen is because of Hallelujah. This album I could have gone without hearing it. I liked So Long Mariane. That’s it. 2/5.
I like this album. Really good songs.
I did not like this album. It’s not bad but it seemed like something was off in the music. Something was missing. The it factor was missing in this music. You know when a band has it and doesn’t. Even with the bands that were less famous. I was wondering why I had never heard their music because I listen to a lot of late 70s and early 80s punk. It’s just not that good.
I really enjoyed this album. Good music. Great experimentation
What an album. It’s starts with the odd Don’t Go Near the Water. I’m sure it was an honest plea to fight water pollution but they chose toothpaste and soap to attack. Take a load off your feet was another odd song. Just odd lyrics. The reworking of a blues song to create the protest song Student Protest Time. When I started listening I thought okay this is a pro-protest song but then by the end I was left unsure. Also some of the do-dos were a bit too happy for such heavy subject matter. But I liked Til I Die and Surf’s Up. There was something about both those song that grabbed me. The lyrics were good too. I also liked Disney Girls.
This is the first time I listened to a full REM album. Drive starts the album and as it started playing I knew this song but I didn’t know why. I liked this song. It’s really good. I love Everybody Hurts and Man on the Moon. I knew them from watching too much MTV back when they still kind of showed videos. MTV loved REM. Try Not to Breathe was another standout on this album. I liked most of it.
I didn’t like this album. It seemed like bad early new wave by a band who couldn’t agree on their sound. Echo and the Bunnymen did it better.
I don’t know. Lorde’s music isn’t my favorite. As I listened the music seemed overproduced. Each song had some music switch. It got boring after the third or fourth song. She and Jack Antonoff wrote some decent songs but not for me.
Not very good. The best song was the first one. Got bored after the first few songs. I guess they didn’t write their songs but added flourishes. It didn’t help.
