Like a warm hug....that occasionally scolds you about the Vietnam War
Jumped Into The Fire has jumped into my most listened
Enjoyed Testify, well produced album by an absolute madman
Wall to wall bangers, no fillers! Every song feels like a soundtrack to some mad 80s film, the production is absurdly lush
Just didn't click with this
Probably should have listened to this first, rather than Crocodiles after the bank holiday weekend when I've been playing catch-up. One had me feeling like i was wearing a soaking wet trench coat and the other had me looking through a glittery kaleidoscope. The Icelandic fairy queen FTW
I loved this album when it first came out, even back in my Nu-Metal–obsessed days which says a lot! Nestled on my CD rack between Follow the Leader and Significant Other, it still holds up brilliantly.
Those harmonies are ridiculous
Enjoyed Jennifer and Lauft... Heisst Das Es Lauft Oder Es Kommt Bald..Lauft had me floating through space
The eternal U2 conundrum: Great album that really reinvented themselves from their 80s sound and having One on it (I'd say my favourite of theirs) BUT.......fuckin Bono's a ballbawg
Such an enjoyable album! Sun Hits the Sky and Late in the Day both cracker.
Aw man, what can I say? Enough doom riffs to power a small city! From Snowblind to Changes, a heavy, trippy, tender and unhinged album
All My Friends still hits me in the feels, great memories flooding through listening to this album this morning
LA gutter sleaze at its finest
Enjoyed Glory Box and Sour Times
Bring the 60s fuzz, really enjoyed this listen
The music equivalent of Demona from Gargoyles
This album is the DNA of half the hip-hop samples I’ve ever heard
So unhinged, loved getting lost in the weirdness of this album
I had this on repeat when I was younger. I'd say the same as all of you, but this hasn't aged well and now I feel ancient. Cheers, Album Generator :(
Stan and The Way I Am still slap so I'm meeting my review halfway with 12 year old Darren.
It’s the anti-Appetite for Destruction, I'd give it 3.5
The sound of rain, the toll of the bell and then Tony hits ye right up the bake with THAT riff? Christ alive, hook it to my veins! Can I give it 10?
What an album! Morello bringing this sound in 92 must have left some amount of jaws on the ground and Zack's manifesto/battle cry wants me to stockpile some petrol bombs
I do enjoy my atmospheric sci-fi soundtracks and can see why this would have been groundbreaking back in the 70s
It just never seemed to get going
What a debut, pure adrenaline!
Had this on while I was cooking lunch and enjoyed it as background beats
Catching up with this one on a Monday morning has me starting the week with a nice, laid-back vibe. Knopfler is something else (3.5)
Fuzzy funky beats with nonsense lyrics
Two big hitters at the start of this album, but the rest stood up too
Enjoy Q-Tip's smooth and chilled delivery.
Naw, thought I would have enjoyed this for some reason
The glory days of nu-wave
Bittersweet divorce pop perfection
VERY questionable lyrics in a lot of the tracks but Lemmy's bass sounds like a chainsaw chewing through a power grid. Pure greasy rock n roll
Love this. Feels like it’s been constantly in my rotation for as long as I can remember, the cassette was always kicking around the house when I was growing up
No honky tonk good time on this country album. There’s a heavy lived in sadness to it especially after finding out he’d done time before writing it.
A couple of tracks not too bad but i felt like I zoned out for the 40mins, very forgettable
Gorgeous production and iconic songs but a bit too polished for its own good
Never listened to Sugar before but the riffs hooked me straight off the bat. Changes absolutely slapped and the guitars sound massive all the way through
Felt like I was slightly floating through this one. Didn’t mind it.
Could practically feel the cigarette smoke burning my eyes during this one. Still, pure atmosphere
Couple of great tracks that really hit, but a lot of filler in between. ★★½
Paper Planes still sounds great but the rest of the album didn’t land the way I remembered. Maybe it just sounded better when I was 19 and drinking carry outs under random bridges. ★★½
Close to a 4, couple of big hitters on this one ★★★½☆
Never really listened to Plup before but that was class *Jarvis Cocker strut
So close to a 4 but i'll keep that for daydream ★★★½☆
I’ve got a core memory of Lovefool coming on the radio in my Da’s old Astra as we drove into Dungloe during the ’97 summer holidays (Atlantic 252). Bonus star for that Sabbath cover, obviously.
Enjoyed that! Smooth assed country and every song felt like its own little short film ★★★½
Brilliant, better than a DeLorean
It's a bit of a mixed bag
A bit much for a Sunday night when you’re slightly hanging but still powerful
Too all over the place for me, I’ll stick to the best of.
Class, never heard of them before. Good morning, Captain played a good few times this morning
Love These Day. The rest of the album is emotionally heavy enough to give your soul shin splints.
Had this when I was 11! Great then, great now. Hendrix still melts everything in sight
Threatened with divorce if I didn’t give this 5, luckily it’s a household classic anyway
Don’t mind the Stones and a couple of tracks on here are decent bluesy tunes
a sci-fi hug from a sad wizard
Catchy and classic but prefer the later albums
Pulled me in from the Start.
Like an extra shot of espresso while I was cooking breakfast
I’d spin again without hesitation! Catchy and weirdly comforting, have I been watching too many John Hughes movies?
more sizzle than steak for my ears
Psychedelic blues charm but bit of a mixed bag
Stylish, just not my thing
nothing is loud but everything hurts
Interesting ideas but I mostly wanted him to plug the guitar back in
Get it right up ye our kid
Cheerful music for sad little weirdos like me
Big, emotional and full of beaut guitar noises. Easy to love and still hits hard
Torture me back at your lair!
Solid and inoffensive, a few enjoyable tracks but mostly generic rock.
Elegia is a stunning standout
Atmospheric and cinematic too. My fav things
A bit chaotic in parts but good craic
full minimalist cowboy monk
How much prog is too much prog? Impressive, ridiculous and exhausting (2.5)
I can feel the sweat dripping through the speakers here and I dig it
Interesting, but it never really pulled me in
I get why it’s important but absolutely not for me
Respect it slightly more than I love it, but still good!
Chaotic brilliance all coming together
I can see the appeal, at the start it wasn't for me but it had won me over at the end. Such 90s vibes
sadness… but lets make it danceable.
Hüsker Dü walked so Sugar could run
Easy to sink into this one
Superstition is absolutely class obvs but the rest feels a bit padded in places
Every song has a core memory attached to it from my late teens. I said it's Brookvale mate via Laurel Drive please
Sounded better than School’s Out but still....this shock rock is shockingly crock
Enjoyed the swagger of Frankie boy
Comfortable, melodic and sneakily solid (3.5)
Nice warm feeling to this one, thought the Grateful Dead were a heavy band
Beautiful in the bleakest possible way
Big feckin energy, great running album
Few misses but enjoyable overall
Enjoyed that more than I thought I would
Yes yes, very nice jangly competence… can we get to the banger now?
Wanted to enjoy this more! The title track is iconic, the rest I can take or leave
Better than Heroes, but not flawless. ★★★½
Brutal and primitive, the anti-Beatles in the best way
Don't like this polished country, give it to us raw and wriggling
Some unreal basslines but more sex pest than anything
The title track is iconic but there’s more cracker tracks here than expected (3.5)
Big band drama one minute, android liberation manifesto the next. Love myself some afrofuturism
Big choruses, big vocals, big feelings. I was thinking 4.5 but have to go with 5......you just need a hug Gary
I had no idea what to expect with this one. Brilliant moody and hypnotic album
Reggae right is brilliant ✊🏻
What a ridiculous album, that opening bassline on Roundabout just kicked me in the balls
Bittersweet thinking about him recording his last album in his living room but what a great album to go out on
It must have been mad to hear this when it first came out, how groundbreaking it sounded
Such a mad live album, 3.5
Smooth bombast brilliance ★★★½
Ravey fun, if a bit samey
Messy brilliance and great craic. Tiocfaidh ár lá
Raw blues with massive influence, class album
I'd say peak Stones sleaze and swagger, really enjoyed it
Great memories of playing this on repeat on my old 32MB MP3 player back in 3rd year art class
Few big tracks in here but jesus the mans horned to the teeth
A middle of the road 3 for me
First proper listen to a Pavement album, really enjoyed this and I’ll definitely be going back for more. Yum yum
Really well produced and enjoyed it more than expected (★★★½)
Freedom! '90 absolutely slaps miles above the rest on this but still good
A lot going on with this one but just not my jam and toast
Enjoyable and short, yes and yes
Huge well polished arena rock that tickles the slap but a wee bit samey
Too long to keep my attention for something so mediocre
Fantastic, I’d say my favourite boss album
I'll be back for seconds in this frosty little sonic cathedral
A 4 out of nowhere, well done lads. #gobyrds
I remember this being better
Enjoyed that, big standouts Pump It Up and Radio Radio.
4 stars for this big emotional sweep
Yum yum, best of the Berlin wans
If Halcyon + On + On can make it on to the Mortal Kombat, Hackers and Mean Girls OST it deserves a 4
I enjoyed the opening track Beyond This World, but couldn't get into it, not my jam and toast
You know the drill.......helicopter blades chopping the humid air, jungle canopy below, some exhausted yanks staring out the door “Born on the Bayou” or “Fortunate Son” starts blasting....director thinks he just invented cinema
Remember my brother having this album growing up, the artwork always stuck with me. Really enjoyable overall, a solid 3.5. Unfinished Sympathy still sounds sooo good.
Mesmerising beep boop classic
