Earth, Wind & Fire
2/5
Well, that was a discovery. I know EWF but I've never actually listened to them other than what the Radio offers during a hits retrospective. A couple of tracks here I liked, one on different album thatI adore. I was unaware about their funk/soul & Baptist style and how disco era overlapped. I think it's a good album, not huge enjoyment for me though - just interest. An occasional track is a stonker, but this album, for all it being often ranked the best of EWF, it just doesn't connect with me. I'm unlikely to listen to again. I liked the last track the most. I've been unsure if it's a 2 or a 3 for me. I'm not comfortable with it being a low 3 so let's say high 2 stars.

Well, I tried. Several times. It's just not connecting. He is just not connecting. Lyrics appear and then slide off. I like the bass riffs and the arrangements but it's not feeling like my music. The vocals, sliding and tremulous, high and delicate with strength and substance, but still, not for me. Thanks. 2 stars.

First listen - ok, some classics there, plonky piano n classic Elton vocals, and what's all the rest of the music, it just blurs. Second listen - hang on, there's something there, that 'Jamaican Rub' track is kind of interesting. So different to the rest. Actually, its all kinda different. Hmm. *scratches* Third listen - what a diverse performance, so many styles done so well, it's a honker of a long album too. I keep getting distracted. So joyous and interesting ...

Really nice. I found this unexpectedly satisfying to lightly listen to. I could definitely spend more time listening to it. I found online reviews of it surprisingly full of praise, and on reading them, I can understand the depts to explore in this, initially superficially joyous, but subsequently quite intimate and explorative. As a friend says, I want to listen again with my ears on. 3 stars, maybe 4, let's go three for now.
