Excellent blend of pop and a more experimental sound. Some really strong highs but a few forgettable tracks. Run for your life hasn’t aged well.
Enjoyed the use of strings to thicken up the sound and add an interesting flourish. Instrumentation kept me interested throughout. A pretty amazing range of rock styles, band sounds dialled at this point. I’m sorry that I hadn’t dug into REM sooner
Top 5 rap album all time. Incredible instrumentation and well communicated story that links back to the poem at the end of the album. I find something new every time I put this on
Seems to lose direction at points and can suffer from a lack of structure. Production is clean and has some nice high points, but not enough is pulling me back for another listen
Excellent vocal performance, great riffs and drumming. Black Hole Sun is fantastic. Did find it to be a little bloated and repetitive at points
Kanye’s ego coming through strong on this one. Some nice production throughout, always good to hear JV on a Kayne track. But it almost feels satirical, the fact that it isn’t makes it hard to get past.
Great new wave vibe. Extremely consistent with great melodies. Some great bass lines and the instrumentation was good in general. Perfect middle ground between grit and polish.
Fun record, simple yet fun. At parts it makes me think of what the Smiths might sound like if they enjoyed funk and were a bit happier. Psycho Killer is a great track
I assume this was innovative at time of release, but it no longer feels that way. The mix makes it hard to hear the lyrics at points so it’s hard to get a clear sense of the story. Vocals are quite weak at points. Having enjoyed other Arcade Fire records I was hoping for more with this one
This album has aged so well. It is atmospheric and immersive. For an album that is so heavily produced, it has a live feel to it. I imagine I’ll get more out of this each time I come back to it
Classic blues record. A bit bloated but no doubting its influence. Maybe the best playing Clapton put on tape.
Really enjoyable album, great song writing and performance
Some great songs on here. Could have done without the interlude.
A collection of fantastic musicians. Great bass lines, some unreal runs on the keys and bold brass work. The brass does a great job of adding depth and texture to the mix
Solid. Some good songs but dragged on a bit
Teen Age Riot is a great track to kick the album off and it never drops off. Great record! Love the guitar work
Some killer, some filler. Overall enjoyable but find myself waiting through the lows for the hits
A few great singles on here. Mother is awful and an easy skip on an otherwise pleasant listen
Any album with LoTR references has a place in my heart. One that has these references and some of the greatest rock songs of all time is an absolute treat to consume. Not a single second of filler on this record, it’s excellent musically, lyrically and thematically.
Legendary performance. Top tier showman and great vocals. A really fun listen
