Public Enemy
5/5
Once again an album that deserves 6 stars. This is in my top ten all time albums. Chuck D is a legend.

De La Soul
4/5
This is a great album. Found myself dancing unknowingly:)

The Specials
5/5
This is among my favourite albums that have ever been made. I’ve been inclined to give it a seven star rating. I’m taking this amongst my 10 albums on a deserted island.

Kacey Musgraves
5/5
This is an unreal album. It deserved album of the year at the Grammy’s - glad she won. I like depressing music. Great sing along album.

Fleetwood Mac
4/5
Overhyped but good listen
The Who
5/5
Maybe the best opener and closer to an album.
The Smashing Pumpkins
3/5
Didn’t need to be a double album. Other than bullet with butterfly wings and 1979.. not as many memorable hits as the Siamese Dream
Bob Marley & The Wailers
5/5
Tracy Chapman
5/5
Grant Lee Buffalo
4/5
Great surprise for any album I have never heard of. The Hook is an ear worm.
Stevie Wonder
3/5
Lynyrd Skynyrd
4/5
Went it knowing the songs (and frankly some over played songs) and thought it would just be one listen. Found myself relistening a few times.
Dr. Dre
4/5
Solid album
Finley Quaye
4/5
Good album. Well worth the listen.
Silver Jews
4/5
Love the lo-fi!
Dire Straits
4/5
Three unreal openers! Knopfler has such unique finger picking playing style…
Thelonious Monk
3/5
Love Jazz and Thelonius but this is an EP. Shouldn’t be on an albums list. Good album but getting a 3 star review.
Al Green
4/5
M.I.A.
3/5
Probably the best Sri Lankan Artist ever… Paper planes blew up deservedly and a couple other cool tracks but overall not enough for me for an album.
Crosby, Stills & Nash
5/5
I was helplessly hoping for some CSN as I was having some de ja vu. Found myself singing along… GEM!
Wilco
5/5
Best album so far deserves six stars out of five.
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
2/5
Not my jam on the initial listen. This is not the best of list but “1001 albums you need to listen to” I listened… not roughing back to it.
Leonard Cohen
2/5
Maybe has a place in its era. Probably bias, but not Leonard Cohen.. fan wasn’t my favorite.
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
4/5
Got to the Nick Cave game late. Discovered him with Peaky Blinders theme song. First listen to this album. Listened 3 more times… Sounded like some subtle use of the accordion which was cool. Only a few bands that can pull that off-Cowboy Junkies and Spirit of the West.
Frank Sinatra
3/5
Never heard of Antonio Carlos Jobim. Average listen for me other than The Girl from Ipinema
The Cure
3/5
Like the popular singles from the Cure. Never listened to a whole album. Need to explore more.
Depeche Mode
4/5
Such a good album took me right back to high school.
Joni Mitchell
3/5
Average album
The Hives
3/5
Only knew Tick Tick Boom… good album! This was more punk than the radio hit deserves 3 1/2 stars if this platform allowed. I would relisten.
3/5
Rare that albums are not streamed as listeners have inevitably encountered. XTC first two albums are not on traditional streaming platforms. The rest are label owned rights… I listened on YouTube but disjointed with ads between every song. Decent for a first listen.
Bob Dylan
3/5
Again wish there were half stars as would give 3.5 but since it didn’t earn 4 for me it is a 3. As much as you hear Dylan influence in future music and his legendary status this album has some filler IMHO. It does have one of my all time favourite Dylan tunes Shelter from the Storm. Right up there with girl from the north country.
David Bowie
4/5
Go to the dance with Bowie after he passed. Was not a big fan of the stuff I grew up hearing on the radio…namely Dancing in the Streets turned me off. His early stuff is better and Queen Bitch is an ear worm.
Method Man
3/5
Enjoyed this…partial to original Wu.
Marvin Gaye
2/5
Will not be revisiting anytime soon…
Ravi Shankar
1/5
As revered as he is…Not my cup of tea.
Muddy Waters
3/5
Jerry Lee Lewis
3/5
Was a good listen! Have trouble giving 5 stars as I think there are only 2 originals on this…. Mostly covers
My Bloody Valentine
3/5
Totally unique album if you have never listened. It takes a few listens. Tough right out of the gate with inaudible lyrics and soundscapes…
Snoop Dogg
4/5
As much as a goofy figure Snoop has become this was and still is a great album. Blueprint for others to copy.
Hawkwind
2/5
I completely understand that this is not necessarily the best 1001 albums ever, but albums you have to listen to before you die. I get that Lemmy was a huge presence, but this is not Hawkwinds best album, but you can see the beginnings of motorhead.
Norah Jones
5/5
6 out 5. Would listen to this anytime!
Yes
3/5
Good not great album.
Genesis
2/5
Meaaahhhhhh!
Otis Redding

4/5

Bob Dylan
3/5

Yeah Yeah Yeahs
2/5
Need some time to percolate this
Steely Dan
2/5
Definitely not timeless. Their music sounds of the era…
Nirvana
4/5
Solid. Period.
Steve Earle
3/5
Wasn’t a fan of his commercial stuff…and hoping his son has some albums on here JTE
Alice In Chains
2/5
Decent… as a group I need a playlist or greatest hits. Album end to end has some filler.
Frank Sinatra
3/5
Would listen to some of the tunes again. Could have been a little shorter in overall length for an album.
Pixies
4/5
Coldplay
4/5
I was turned off by the band initially because of all their commercial success right out of the gates, but this is a great album and they deserve all the accolades they got at the time and now!
Dexys Midnight Runners
2/5
Obviously the hit but as an album fell flat for me
Rage Against The Machine
4/5
Great pump up album… Base is A Game!
Hugh Masekela
3/5
Worth a spin!
The Clash
3/5
I guess it is an album to listen to before you die, and perhaps their seminal album but they have better in their catalogue. Fingers crossed for London Calling.
Travis
4/5
Great album! This is the total reason I like this email reminder a day heard of them never really gave him the lesson. Definitely gonna spin this in the future.
Drive-By Truckers
2/5
Decent is all I can say good artist average album
James Brown
4/5
Classic and truly an album to to listen to before you die.
The Clash
3/5
John Lennon

John did some cool stuff post Beatles but there is better material.
Various Artists
2/5
Madonna
3/5
Always changing Madonna this was a good listen
Stevie Wonder
3/5
3/5
R.E.M.
3/5
Good listen. Can hear the early start to the music that made them so famous.
The Doors
2/5
The Doors best is greatest hits.
The Undertones
3/5
Never heard of the Undertones and this was a treat. The reason this album generator is all worth it!
Beck
3/5
Yes! What can I say I like sad…
The xx
3/5
Only heard “Islands” this is a distinct vibe… good album
Miles Davis
1/5
Not his best
The Yardbirds
2/5
On a streak of underwhelming albums.. l like the later Yardbirds or a collection of hits but fingers crossed for something good today!
Bon Jovi
2/5
Sang along to the radio hits form my childhood but the rest was average
Garbage
3/5
Enjoyed this beyond the singles.
Public Enemy
5/5
Once again an album that deserves 6 stars. This is in my top ten all time albums. Chuck D is a legend.
Waylon Jennings
2/5
Need 1/2 stars. Not a 2 but not a 3. Not a lot of experience with Waylon Jennings but I like what I hear over time has 4 star potential. obviously if you have experience with an album, you’re more inclined to get a better rating but at one time listen is tough.
Mariah Carey
2/5
Always loved Mariah Carey. She has some real hits over the years but other than Honey this fell flat for me.
The Young Gods
1/5
This was a roller coaster ride sometimes I felt like I was at Barnum and Bailey Circus and other times I felt like it was 80s Metallica. It was the language barrier… I wasn't a big fan.
Sex Pistols
3/5
For a bunch of reasons a must hear before you die..
Jimi Hendrix
4/5
A legend and a must listen
Björk
2/5
Meeaahhh…
Black Flag
3/5
3/5
Great listen
Fleet Foxes
2/5
Fleet foxes have some catchy singles. Not on this album. Not sure it needs to be in this list.
The Rolling Stones
3/5
Not a huge fan of the stones but full respect.. deserves to be here
2/5
Sounds just like that era. Doesn’t make it bad...just not great.
The Sensational Alex Harvey Band
2/5
Could grow on me after a few listens
Tom Waits
3/5
Have never taken the dive into Tom Waits. Would listen to some more in the future. Music was good. Kind of a cross between the Pogues and at times at not as talented Louis Armstrong. Cant tell if that’s just his voice or he is trying way too hard
Janis Joplin
3/5
2 sore throats back to back with Tom waits in the previous album.
The Isley Brothers
2/5
This was not groundbreaking.
Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark
2/5
You can hear the electronic synth influence of that era. OMD may be pioneers but others like Depeche Mode and New Order just sound better and make you want to dance. This was a bit of a dark listen. Give me more If You Leave!!!
N.W.A.
4/5
Really enjoyed this. Trip down memory lane. Always a bias to the music of high school years.
Animal Collective
2/5
Tough slugging here
Neil Young & Crazy Horse
4/5
I like this album I’d really give it a 3 1/2 but it bumped it up to a four. his catalogue is huge, butI will take Harvest, Rust never sleeps and Harvest moon for my Neil collection.
Talking Heads
2/5
Intrigued by Talking Heads and enjoy their more successful songs. Maybe deserves to listen to before you die…a few good songs but overall as an album not my favourite.
Gang Starr
3/5
Love this era of rap…
Shuggie Otis
2/5
Started it out. I just thought it was a disco album couple of different tunes there. Music is definitely of that era.
R.E.M.
5/5
Such a great album the early catalogue is a tough grind… testament to a band that sticks with it and then knocks it out of the park after 10 years
The Notorious B.I.G.
4/5
Great album, period.
David Bowie
2/5
Not my favourite Bowie
Ian Dury
2/5
Never heard of this. But this is why I love this album generator…sometimes “gold” sometimes not so much. Wasn’t terrible but won’t be back to Ian Drury anytime soon.
Michael Jackson
3/5
Good start into the 80’s but still sounds of that era… discoey at times. Some good tunes Rock with You in particular. Not my favourite MJ album.
Rufus Wainwright
3/5
Enjoyed this one.
Led Zeppelin
5/5
Best LZ album…
Radiohead
3/5
Love the band but way better albums in the Radiohead collection.
Herbie Hancock
4/5
Good stuff from a legend. Like the original watermelon man better though ;)
Daft Punk
3/5
Big Black
2/5
Not sure it is 1001 worthy.
Supertramp
4/5
Great album…
Cyndi Lauper
3/5
Did not sound as dated as I anticipated. Obviously some legendary pop hits and an 80’s icon but not a full album of good songs. But worth thenlisten
John Lee Hooker
3/5
The first track was not a good opener but settled into what I had hoped for with In the Mood.
Tricky
3/5
I would listen to this again there’s a little Jim in there with the Isaac Hayes/Portishead sample. Hell is Round the corner.
Slipknot
1/5
Should not be on this list.
Sam Cooke
3/5
Very good.
Songhoy Blues
1/5
Not my jam
Dusty Springfield
3/5
Gram Parsons
3/5
Never listened and really enjoyed this
Tom Waits
2/5
Not sure Tom waits deserves multiple albums in 1001 albums list
Joan Armatrading
2/5
Nirvana
5/5
When I first heard this album, I thought Nevermind blew it out of the water, but as I listened to it more over the years, it is right up there with Nevermind. It may be the benefit of hindsight and how hyped never mind was and continues to be that I find myself going to In Utero and live album more.
Tim Buckley
2/5
Sounded dated. Didn’t grab me, but will give a few more lessons. I really enjoy Jeff Buckley so Tim gets a few more listens..
Elvis Costello & The Attractions
3/5
He has better but good album
Q-Tip
3/5
Black Sabbath
4/5
Classic
Beck
3/5
I’m a back fan, but this is not my favorite. Second back album already we’ll see what else they have in this list.
Fiona Apple
5/5
No question 5 out of 5. This album made my week. Other than the live cover of “I want you “by Mazzy Star with Elvis Costello AND despite all the accolades for the new album, nothing else compares to Tidal…
Cypress Hill
2/5
Not in my top 1001 albums
The Triffids
2/5
Not my jam.
Radiohead
3/5
You And Who’s Army is one of my favourite Radiohead songs but overall not my favourite Radiohead album. Kudos for continually evolving though.
Beatles
4/5
Joni Mitchell
2/5
Robert Wyatt
2/5
A little out there for me...
Hanoi Rocks
4/5
Surprisingly good. You can see the influences of Mötley Crüe Guns N’ Roses. Would listen again.
Beatles
5/5
U2
2/5
Not a huge U2 fan. So acknowledging my Bias.
John Martyn
4/5
Surprisingly good l! Never really heard of John Martin or this album. Reminding me a little bit of Nick Drak. Got down a rabbit hole in a good way… this is why I like this platform.
Paul Revere & The Raiders
3/5
Kinks Animals vibe… played a lot of bands in this year. I hear Beatles influence didn’t realize I’m not your stepping stone was theirs..
Nitin Sawhney
2/5
Meeaaahhh
Kraftwerk
4/5
The precursor to some amazing music like depeche mode and new order…
David Bowie
3/5
Not the best Bowie
Manic Street Preachers
4/5
This was a pleasant surprise 3.5 is the number but anything that peaks my interest and causes me to dive a little deeper gets a 4.
ABBA
2/5
Average
Slipknot
2/5
Not great!
Foo Fighters
3/5
Decent Album
3/5
3 is a stretch. U2 is overhyped.

Average
Kanye West
2/5
Not sure this is 1001 material
Stevie Wonder
3/5
Decent but not his best.
Aretha Franklin
4/5
Timeless…
Marty Robbins
4/5
Great listen. Always valuable when you find songs you didn’t know were originals. Prime example is Big Iron. I never took the time to check the song credits. I thought Colter Wall was the original. Good choice to be in this list.
Grateful Dead
5/5
No true dead head would choose a studio album as the “go to” but as far as albums recorded in a studio and released by a label, this would be the place to start. It was my introduction to the dead when I got it for a penny on Columbia house lol
Moby Grape
3/5
Never really listened to them before. Round up from 2.5
Beastie Boys
3/5
The Beastie Boys get so much love as being an innovative… I kinda lost track of them after Licensed To ILL. This album was a marathon with 20 tracks.
Fatboy Slim
4/5
Great album. Norm Cook came a ‘long way’ from the Housemartins.
Massive Attack
3/5
Not at all what I expected. Portishead influence with less darkness. 3.5

Never heard this room before. Totally unexpected love the piano.
Aerosmith
2/5
Meahhhh.
Sister Sledge
2/5
Dated
Talking Heads
3/5
A few good tunes needs a few more to be a great album
Yes
3/5
Familiar with Roundabout but most of this was new for me….very different. Appreciate it but not something I feel like going back to right away. Needs some listens.
The Sugarcubes
3/5
Never been a Björk fan I know this is where she got her Start, but not my jam.
T. Rex
4/5
This is a good album and worth the listen. Only really knew the hit bang a gong. There’s some other good tunes on this album can definitely hear David Bowie styles…
Cream
4/5
3.5 upgrade for an iconic band. Some legendary tunes some average. Deserves its place on this list.
Led Zeppelin
3/5
3.5 anything Led Zeppelin is good!
The Saints
3/5
2.5 upgraded to 3 because I have a soft spot for music from down under

3/5
This is a marathon of a listen…
Stan Getz
3/5
Delightful
Tears For Fears
3/5
Some good singles but don’t agree it is an overall great album
Joy Division
4/5
Such a great album… one kind ahead of it’s time
Cocteau Twins
3/5
Quite a different listening experience. Heard of this group but never this deep.
Astor Piazzolla
1/5
I’m be of the first albums I could not finish
Motörhead
2/5
Ace of spades is a banger and have always loved it. A whole album of live motorhead gets a little stale after a while.
Elliott Smith
5/5
Such a great album and artist. Can listen start to finish on repeat. Great to have a true 5 stars once again.
Lauryn Hill
4/5
I know this lands on many lists as atop album but her stuff with Fugees The Score is better IMO. Good but not a 5.
Spacemen 3
3/5
Different …would listen again.
The Waterboys
4/5
This was a treat. Heard of but never really listened before. Like the vibe
The Magnetic Fields
4/5
First time, magnetic fields listener. Enjoyed the deep vocals tracks, like book of love.
Miles Davis
3/5
Always good but not his best.
Frank Zappa
2/5
I know Zappa is a little “out there” this was a struggle. I like Joes Garage but won’t be revisiting this in the future I don’t think.
Steely Dan
2/5
Meaahhhh
The Who
4/5
Going to give this a 3.5 bumped to an 4 even though I love The Who. Many critics consider this what are the best live albums ever as the who were always trying to do something new. I would choose other Who albums before this one.
The Beach Boys
3/5
I respect the Beach boys and everything that they did. I enjoy the “poppy” hits 3.5 but rounding down.
Sufjan Stevens
3/5
Like the album like the sound, but this album is lots of the same. Usually, I don’t mind lots of the same, but it didn’t endear me to listen again.
Neil Young
4/5
This was a complete gem. Neil Young is up and down with his albums, but this one was a treat.
Nick Drake
4/5
Great listen. I have only ever listened to Pink moon. This was a treat.
The Bees
3/5
3.5 rounded down. Listened twice actually. Many genres here. Unique sound.
Björk
2/5
Bjork not my jam.
Talking Heads
4/5
This was awesome love the rendition of sugar on my tongue
Franz Ferdinand
4/5
Good stuff. Only heard the hits but this was a good collection of songs.
Laibach
2/5
Not my jam. Not the language barrier.
Elbow
4/5
Good stuff, looking forward to looking into more of their catalogue.
Sleater-Kinney
3/5
Like the sound but each song sounded like the next..Lots of the same for an album… an interesting lesson was the dig me out covers version with collaborations, which was great
Paul Simon
3/5
Not my favourite. Listened many times and know the singles from classic rock radio . I can respect that it is ground breaking but sonically just doesn’t do it for me.
Arcade Fire
4/5
There isn’t an award that this album didn’t win but 3.5 in my mind round up to 4 cause they’re Canadian
SZA
3/5
Some good tunes, but not a complete album for me and I like SZA
Fugees
5/5
This album lands in the top 10 albums of all time for me. It’s better than a five complete from start to finish.
Bill Callahan
4/5
The darkness of Nick Drake and the voice of William Prince. This was a gem that I’ve never listened to before.
Louis Prima
4/5
This was a treat. Was sceptical but this music did not sound like 1956 AND I thought I recognized this voice…it took me back to my childhood. Louis Prima was featured in the Jungle Book soundtrack. Great album!
The Rolling Stones
4/5
This might be my favourite Stone’s album
LL Cool J
4/5
Enjoyed this but I am bias as this is my era of hip hop/rap.
Bonnie Raitt
5/5
At 15 years old I can’t say I was into Bonnie… I heard the radio hits back then but the real gems are the blues tunes like The Road is My Middle Name. Great album.
Supergrass
4/5
Playlist from Supergrass is ‘Alright’ I hear lots of sonic influences from the Smashing Pumpkins to the Stone roses. Vocals me a little of Jack White or Black Francis. Great listen.
Stevie Wonder
4/5
Some gems in here, one of a kind singer. Living in the city is ahead of its time for rap hip hop artists that have conversations and skits embedded in their music.
Radiohead
4/5
Such a great album such a great band. I could listen to this on repeat.
Jeff Buckley
5/5
This is a good as it gets. Originals are spot on and not many songs you can say the cover is better than the original. Loat out on a lot of potential music with his passing.
Led Zeppelin
5/5
A classic. Absolute in any music collection.
Adele
4/5
Gillian Welch
5/5
Gillian Welch and David Rawlings are phenomenal. Nothing else I can say great album start to finish get a five.
Incredible Bongo Band
3/5
Funky covers. Not sure I would revisit much as an album.
Duke Ellington
5/5
Might be my favourite jazz album ever…
Funkadelic
3/5
I expected all disco this had some funky guitar stuff
Madness
3/5
Enjoyed Madness in my high school days but as an album it’s getting a three some great hits, but lacks an abundance of good tunes to make it a good album
DJ Shadow
3/5
Lots of the same…thought I was on an elevator. Doesn’t mean bad as an elevator music just lots of the same, but some of it was catchy.
Arcade Fire
3/5
Tried a few times and a few albums. Some good tunes but not an entire album worth on Neon Bible. Get lost at times and it just doesn’t grab me. For all their athletes I just can’t seem to get it.
MGMT
3/5
Electronica usually not my jam, but Electric Feel and Kids changed my mind.
Sisters Of Mercy
3/5
Depeche Mode meets Nick Cave
Orange Juice
4/5
I’ve heard of Edwin Collins, but didn’t realize this was his band. I can see the early influence on other bands.
Elvis Presley
4/5
I do like Elvis, but hadn’t really listen to this live album and I was very satisfied!
Iron Maiden
3/5
There are better Maiden Albums than the self titled.
AC/DC
3/5
AC/DC is not my thing
Spiritualized
3/5
Not unreal for a first listen. Imagine this type of droning would need some time to appreciate it more.
Kacey Musgraves
5/5
This is an unreal album. It deserved album of the year at the Grammy’s - glad she won. I like depressing music. Great sing along album.
Radiohead
5/5
This gets a five for me. It really solidified my love for a Radiohead.
De La Soul
4/5
This is a great album. Found myself dancing unknowingly:)
Muddy Waters
4/5
Great listen. Doesn’t get enough credit for the sound that made others more famous.
Neil Young & Crazy Horse
4/5
Couple iconic tunes.
The Rolling Stones
3/5
I hope every Stones album isn’t on this list…
Terence Trent D'Arby
3/5
Going with a 3 TTD is talented no question. Just listen to the acapala “As Yet Untitled” which is a testament to the talent. The hits sounded a little of the 80’s for my liking.
Bad Company
4/5
There are some 70’s bands that were “too much” and makes them sound dated. Bad Company gets the radio play with the hits. This was an enjoyable listen.
The Specials
5/5
This is among my favourite albums that have ever been made. I’ve been inclined to give it a seven star rating. I’m taking this amongst my 10 albums on a deserted island.
Steve Winwood
3/5
And acknowledged fan of Steve Winwood. On a vinyl copy from quite some time ago of Back in the highlife. Despite the fact that I enjoyed this album, the song seemed a lot of the same.
The Who
3/5
Despite the critical acclaim and my affinity for The Who… not my favourite. I get the cynical view and attempt at humour around commercialism but just not the that great on the ears (except for I can see for Miles) One can make the case that deserves to be on this list album for its concept .
Bill Evans Trio

Joni Mitchell

Electric Light Orchestra

The Chemical Brothers
3/5
Sounded like one big long song.
Blur
4/5
Great album. Catchy pop tunes. Not sure Britpop deserves its own genre, but everyone should have this in their collection.
George Michael
5/5
I never actually listened to this album front to back until it came up on this list. But I knew almost every song I guess that’s how many singles there were. This was on. Repeat for a week straight.
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds

Sarah Vaughan

Blue Cheer
4/5
Never heard of this band till I listened to this album. The sound took me to a Deep Purple cover band playing their best version of Jimi Hendrix with a male version of Janis Joplin on vocals. Hardly enough tunes to constitute an album, but I would listen again.
The Specials
4/5
Not as good as their self titled, but still a great album from a great group.
Harry Nilsson

It wasn’t hard on the ears but didn’t endear me to explore further into the Harry Nilsson catalogue.

This entire quadrilogy is great. Perfect choice of stripped down covers and excellent choices for backing vocals with Fiona Apple and Nick Cave.

Standard punk for me. Didn’t seem groundbreaking, but I guess it doesn’t need to be to be included on this list. Needs a few more listens.
