Overhyped but good listen

Maybe the best opener and closer to an album.

Didn’t need to be a double album. Other than bullet with butterfly wings and 1979.. not as many memorable hits as the Siamese Dream

Great surprise for any album I have never heard of. The Hook is an ear worm.

Went it knowing the songs (and frankly some over played songs) and thought it would just be one listen. Found myself relistening a few times.

Love Jazz and Thelonius but this is an EP. Shouldn’t be on an albums list. Good album but getting a 3 star review.

Probably the best Sri Lankan Artist ever… Paper planes blew up deservedly and a couple other cool tracks but overall not enough for me for an album.

I was helplessly hoping for some CSN as I was having some de ja vu. Found myself singing along… GEM!

Best album so far deserves six stars out of five.

Not my jam on the initial listen. This is not the best of list but “1001 albums you need to listen to” I listened… not roughing back to it.

Maybe has a place in its era. Probably bias, but not Leonard Cohen.. fan wasn’t my favorite.

Got to the Nick Cave game late. Discovered him with Peaky Blinders theme song. First listen to this album. Listened 3 more times… Sounded like some subtle use of the accordion which was cool. Only a few bands that can pull that off-Cowboy Junkies and Spirit of the West.

Never heard of Antonio Carlos Jobim. Average listen for me other than The Girl from Ipinema

Like the popular singles from the Cure. Never listened to a whole album. Need to explore more.

Such a good album took me right back to high school.

Only knew Tick Tick Boom… good album! This was more punk than the radio hit deserves 3 1/2 stars if this platform allowed. I would relisten.

Rare that albums are not streamed as listeners have inevitably encountered. XTC first two albums are not on traditional streaming platforms. The rest are label owned rights… I listened on YouTube but disjointed with ads between every song. Decent for a first listen.

Again wish there were half stars as would give 3.5 but since it didn’t earn 4 for me it is a 3. As much as you hear Dylan influence in future music and his legendary status this album has some filler IMHO. It does have one of my all time favourite Dylan tunes Shelter from the Storm. Right up there with girl from the north country.

Go to the dance with Bowie after he passed. Was not a big fan of the stuff I grew up hearing on the radio…namely Dancing in the Streets turned me off. His early stuff is better and Queen Bitch is an ear worm.

Enjoyed this…partial to original Wu.

Will not be revisiting anytime soon…

Totally unique album if you have never listened. It takes a few listens. Tough right out of the gate with inaudible lyrics and soundscapes…

As much as a goofy figure Snoop has become this was and still is a great album. Blueprint for others to copy.

I completely understand that this is not necessarily the best 1001 albums ever, but albums you have to listen to before you die. I get that Lemmy was a huge presence, but this is not Hawkwinds best album, but you can see the beginnings of motorhead.

Would listen to some of the tunes again. Could have been a little shorter in overall length for an album.

I was turned off by the band initially because of all their commercial success right out of the gates, but this is a great album and they deserve all the accolades they got at the time and now!

I guess it is an album to listen to before you die, and perhaps their seminal album but they have better in their catalogue. Fingers crossed for London Calling.

On a streak of underwhelming albums.. l like the later Yardbirds or a collection of hits but fingers crossed for something good today!

Sang along to the radio hits form my childhood but the rest was average

Enjoyed this beyond the singles.

Once again an album that deserves 6 stars. This is in my top ten all time albums. Chuck D is a legend.

Need 1/2 stars. Not a 2 but not a 3. Not a lot of experience with Waylon Jennings but I like what I hear over time has 4 star potential. obviously if you have experience with an album, you’re more inclined to get a better rating but at one time listen is tough.

Always loved Mariah Carey. She has some real hits over the years but other than Honey this fell flat for me.

This was a roller coaster ride sometimes I felt like I was at Barnum and Bailey Circus and other times I felt like it was 80s Metallica. It was the language barrier… I wasn't a big fan.

Could grow on me after a few listens

Have never taken the dive into Tom Waits. Would listen to some more in the future. Music was good. Kind of a cross between the Pogues and at times at not as talented Louis Armstrong. Cant tell if that’s just his voice or he is trying way too hard

2 sore throats back to back with Tom waits in the previous album.

This was not groundbreaking.

You can hear the electronic synth influence of that era. OMD may be pioneers but others like Depeche Mode and New Order just sound better and make you want to dance. This was a bit of a dark listen. Give me more If You Leave!!!

Really enjoyed this. Trip down memory lane. Always a bias to the music of high school years.

I like this album I’d really give it a 3 1/2 but it bumped it up to a four. his catalogue is huge, butI will take Harvest, Rust never sleeps and Harvest moon for my Neil collection.

Intrigued by Talking Heads and enjoy their more successful songs. Maybe deserves to listen to before you die…a few good songs but overall as an album not my favourite.

Love this era of rap…

Started it out. I just thought it was a disco album couple of different tunes there. Music is definitely of that era.

Such a great album the early catalogue is a tough grind… testament to a band that sticks with it and then knocks it out of the park after 10 years

Not my favourite Bowie

Never heard of this. But this is why I love this album generator…sometimes “gold” sometimes not so much. Wasn’t terrible but won’t be back to Ian Drury anytime soon.

Good start into the 80’s but still sounds of that era… discoey at times. Some good tunes Rock with You in particular. Not my favourite MJ album.

Great album…

Did not sound as dated as I anticipated. Obviously some legendary pop hits and an 80’s icon but not a full album of good songs. But worth thenlisten

The first track was not a good opener but settled into what I had hoped for with In the Mood.

I would listen to this again there’s a little Jim in there with the Isaac Hayes/Portishead sample. Hell is Round the corner.

Should not be on this list.

Not sure Tom waits deserves multiple albums in 1001 albums list

When I first heard this album, I thought Nevermind blew it out of the water, but as I listened to it more over the years, it is right up there with Nevermind. It may be the benefit of hindsight and how hyped never mind was and continues to be that I find myself going to In Utero and live album more.

Sounded dated. Didn’t grab me, but will give a few more lessons. I really enjoy Jeff Buckley so Tim gets a few more listens..

No question 5 out of 5. This album made my week. Other than the live cover of “I want you “by Mazzy Star with Elvis Costello AND despite all the accolades for the new album, nothing else compares to Tidal…

You And Who’s Army is one of my favourite Radiohead songs but overall not my favourite Radiohead album. Kudos for continually evolving though.

A little out there for me...

Surprisingly good. You can see the influences of Mötley Crüe Guns N’ Roses. Would listen again.

Not a huge U2 fan. So acknowledging my Bias.

Surprisingly good l! Never really heard of John Martin or this album. Reminding me a little bit of Nick Drak. Got down a rabbit hole in a good way… this is why I like this platform.

Kinks Animals vibe… played a lot of bands in this year. I hear Beatles influence didn’t realize I’m not your stepping stone was theirs..

Timeless…

Great listen. Always valuable when you find songs you didn’t know were originals. Prime example is Big Iron. I never took the time to check the song credits. I thought Colter Wall was the original. Good choice to be in this list.

No true dead head would choose a studio album as the “go to” but as far as albums recorded in a studio and released by a label, this would be the place to start. It was my introduction to the dead when I got it for a penny on Columbia house lol

The Beastie Boys get so much love as being an innovative… I kinda lost track of them after Licensed To ILL. This album was a marathon with 20 tracks.

Great album. Norm Cook came a ‘long way’ from the Housemartins.

A few good tunes needs a few more to be a great album

Familiar with Roundabout but most of this was new for me….very different. Appreciate it but not something I feel like going back to right away. Needs some listens.

Never been a Björk fan I know this is where she got her Start, but not my jam.

This is a good album and worth the listen. Only really knew the hit bang a gong. There’s some other good tunes on this album can definitely hear David Bowie styles…

3.5 upgrade for an iconic band. Some legendary tunes some average. Deserves its place on this list.

Going to give this a 3.5 bumped to an 4 even though I love The Who. Many critics consider this what are the best live albums ever as the who were always trying to do something new. I would choose other Who albums before this one.

I respect the Beach boys and everything that they did. I enjoy the “poppy” hits 3.5 but rounding down.

Like the album like the sound, but this album is lots of the same. Usually, I don’t mind lots of the same, but it didn’t endear me to listen again.

This was a complete gem. Neil Young is up and down with his albums, but this one was a treat.

Great listen. I have only ever listened to Pink moon. This was a treat.

This album lands in the top 10 albums of all time for me. It’s better than a five complete from start to finish.

The darkness of Nick Drake and the voice of William Prince. This was a gem that I’ve never listened to before.

This was a treat. Was sceptical but this music did not sound like 1956 AND I thought I recognized this voice…it took me back to my childhood. Louis Prima was featured in the Jungle Book soundtrack. Great album!

Enjoyed this but I am bias as this is my era of hip hop/rap.

At 15 years old I can’t say I was into Bonnie… I heard the radio hits back then but the real gems are the blues tunes like The Road is My Middle Name. Great album.

Playlist from Supergrass is ‘Alright’ I hear lots of sonic influences from the Smashing Pumpkins to the Stone roses. Vocals me a little of Jack White or Black Francis. Great listen.

Some gems in here, one of a kind singer. Living in the city is ahead of its time for rap hip hop artists that have conversations and skits embedded in their music.

This is a good as it gets. Originals are spot on and not many songs you can say the cover is better than the original. Loat out on a lot of potential music with his passing.

Enjoyed Madness in my high school days but as an album it’s getting a three some great hits, but lacks an abundance of good tunes to make it a good album

Lots of the same…thought I was on an elevator. Doesn’t mean bad as an elevator music just lots of the same, but some of it was catchy.

Tried a few times and a few albums. Some good tunes but not an entire album worth on Neon Bible. Get lost at times and it just doesn’t grab me. For all their athletes I just can’t seem to get it.

Electronica usually not my jam, but Electric Feel and Kids changed my mind.

Depeche Mode meets Nick Cave

I’ve heard of Edwin Collins, but didn’t realize this was his band. I can see the early influence on other bands.

I do like Elvis, but hadn’t really listen to this live album and I was very satisfied!

There are better Maiden Albums than the self titled.

AC/DC is not my thing

Not unreal for a first listen. Imagine this type of droning would need some time to appreciate it more.

This is an unreal album. It deserved album of the year at the Grammy’s - glad she won. I like depressing music. Great sing along album.

Going with a 3 TTD is talented no question. Just listen to the acapala “As Yet Untitled” which is a testament to the talent. The hits sounded a little of the 80’s for my liking.

There are some 70’s bands that were “too much” and makes them sound dated. Bad Company gets the radio play with the hits.This was an enjoyable listen.

This is among my favourite albums that have ever been made. I’ve been inclined to give it a seven star rating. I’m taking this amongst my 10 albums on a deserted island.

And acknowledged fan of Steve Winwood. On a vinyl copy from quite some time ago of Back in the highlife. Despite the fact that I enjoyed this album, the song seemed a lot of the same.

Despite the critical acclaim and my affinity for The Who… not my favourite. I get the cynical view and attempt at humour around commercialism but just not the that great on the ears (except for I can see for Miles) One can make the case that deserves to be on this list album for its concept .

New listen for me. Catchy album.Heavy on the stand up bass.

Big fan of ELO’s “hits” Album was good but too many songs for an album IMO

Sounded like one big long song.

Great album. Catchy pop tunes. Not sure Britpop deserves its own genre, but everyone should have this in their collection.

I never actually listened to this album front to back until it came up on this list. But I knew almost every song I guess that’s how many singles there were. This was on. Repeat for a week straight.

Never heard of this band till I listened to this album. The sound took me to a Deep Purple cover band playing their best version of Jimi Hendrix with a male version of Janis Joplin on vocals. Hardly enough tunes to constitute an album, but I would listen again.

Not as good as their self titled, but still a great album from a great group.

It wasn’t hard on the ears but didn’t endear me to explore further into the Harry Nilsson catalogue.

This entire quadrilogy is great. Perfect choice of stripped down covers and excellent choices for backing vocals with Fiona Apple and Nick Cave.

A little artsy and experimental for my tastes.

Such a great album. Fools Gold is amongst my top songs.

Unreal. One of the best unplugged ever.

I’ve never heard much from Dixie‘s midnight runners other than Come on Eileen. This was a pleasant surprise and really enjoyed it, especially to start scrolling on the dial and hear the Sex Pistols and the specials.

Iconic album. Necessary for any collection.

Great opening for an album unfortunately contains some mid album filler. Not sure if this belongs on the list Neil Young greatest hits is required for everyone in their collection.
