A few hits but they blend into too many similar songs. Would rather listen to early Stones which this is reminiscent of. Favourite song: Harmony.
Disappointing! The best Bowie feels modern despite its age - this does not stick out in the same way. One reasonable bop (S&V) does not a top 1001 album make.
Reasonable but too similar throughout. There are a few quieter guitar moments that sounded pretty good and I think more focus on them would be a better album - less time spent at 100% volume. Favourite track: Master of Puppets, of course.
Ok. Some tracks were pretty good, but nothing that really jumped out at me. I can see this being “Best Album of the June 2009” but I don’t think it’s stood the test of time. Can’t rate it higher than “Low” by DB though, because in retrospect that album was presaging this style of music 20 years earlier.
Uneven, but I think Venus in Furs is so good it drags everything else up. Also points for being the first ones to ever do it - sounds ahead of its time.
At least 3 disco bangers, but really works as a whole album - stick it on at a party in the past 46 years and you’ll have a good time.
An album I already like, trying to find reasons not to love. Unfortunately, I cannot. Fun, different, kooky songs with lots of character. Oh and 1 generational banger to start with.
Rockin’!
I can see the vision, but not my thing.
This is the kind of album the 1001 list is for - something I never would have picked, but I'm glad I listened to. Heartfelt, witty, melancholic.
Some good tunes but, unfortunately, overall unlistenable due to the occasional vocal choice.
Fun sound. (Full disclosure, I listened to this album on repeat while I tried to sleep on the flight to Magaluf surrounded by a stag, so any sound was an improvement. Upon closer inspection I had also only downloaded the first song on the album, so this review is coloured by listening to “Sunflower” approx. 32 times.)
Fun album, but not The King’s greatest. Interesting as a transition between the music of the time and rock’n’roll.
Is this the fabled, “Wall-to-wall bangers, no skips”? Has it finally happened?? Is there the potential for 3 5s??? This reporter eagerly waits to find out. Where was all this music the in Bohemian Rhapsody movie? Only one potential “Misfire” on the album. Favourite song: Stone Cold Crazy.
What a fun album. Not totally my thing, but it grew on me. Favourite song: "Banana Split For My Baby"
Some fun stuff, but not mind-blowing. FS: Anything That’s Rock’n’Roll
Fun, and I like the sound, but too similar throughout to be an all-timer.
Nice, but nothing that really grabbed me and made me want to listen.
Super fun. Lots of stuff going on; gives you an idea why so many bands listed them as an inspiration. FS: Shangri-la, but lots to choose from. (Not Australia, though. What a dumb song.)
Lots of fun, but didn’t rise above that for me. FS: Higher Ground.
Potentially interesting themes, but no interest musically.
What you get when you stretch “Day in the Life” into an entire album. Made me want to listen to something better.
Good stuff. A glimpse to a different world of music I normally have no interest in. FS: Coat of Many Colours.
Redefines what a “good” album is (by being mostly bad). Kind of unlistenable but a part of me likes it.
Good, but ultimately not for me.
Improved over time. Would be good music for a recession. FS: Damaged Goods.
Nice background, and probably a great album, but I am too much of a philistine to understand.
Several bangers, no lowlights, great vocals and great tracks behind it. FS: Beautiful
A few hits and not bad for 19 yr old, but the highs do not make up for the lows. Any deeper commentary is at year 9 PSHE-level. FS: Fix Up, Look Sharp.
Not a terrible sound, and mercifully short, but as with all Steely Dan we must ask ourselves - Why?
Okay, but not even near the top of my “Fred Neil” ranking. You can’t include albums on this list just because you love Midnight Cowboy.
Great album but desperately needed some radio edits. Know when to end a song! FS: Personal Jesus, obviously, but enjoyed the whole run through to Blue Dress
Not all great but too much interesting stuff to rate low. FS: Our House (mainstream) or Helpless (turns out I love Neil Young)
Several bangers. I’ll take it! (Did you know “Smoke on the Water” actually happened to them?) FS: Highway Star
Not a massive Kate Bush fan but some interesting stuff going on here…
A little miscellaneous. Too many songs about states.
Find myself liking the things I hadn’t heard before over the overplayed classics. But still, an album full of hits. FS: Hello
Endlessly forgettable.
Fun Metallica sounds if that’s what your looking for, but not sure if the social themes carry through
Good stuff! Big claim to call your album genius but I think he’s done well.
Not dreadful, but not even one of the top 1001 folk rock albums of the early 70s (of which this app has shown us many).
A few hits, but not a style that has stood the test of time.
Fun Bowie, but nothing crazy.
Not totally original, but a few hits.
Poor. If they were playing this live in a pub (ideal environment for it), I would ask them to stop.
You know what Brian, it would be nice, wouldn’t it… Lots of fun, but I am not astute enough to understand the deeper melodies, apparently. FS: I Just Wasn’t Made for These Times.
Fun, but didn’t blow my mind.
Some filler, but too much gold to ignore. These are the ancestral songs one my people. Favourite (new) Song: Rise and Fall
Not my usual vibe but clearly something great and unique going on.
Not what I was expecting from the name or cover, but I like the jazzy big band.
Not my favourite Talking Heads, but I liked it more than I thought. FS: Heaven.
Pretty good stuff- would have liked to have seen where they went next :( FS: Dumb?
I like it! Feels like a precursor to a lot of the 00s indie rock I love. Illegitimate FS: Never Stop - Discotheque remix
