1001 Albums Summary

It’s an album I would have never listened to outside of this. It’s the type of music that I would never sit down and listen to, since it feels way more like the kind of music you go to see live and dance to. It feels like a “top 100 performances you wish you could have seen live.” But, that being said, it was also pretty mind-boggling how good he sounds live. And feeling the crowd through all the cheering and laughing… so nice. Really liked this one the line “it ain’t that leukemia” and then laughing during “Somebody Have Mercy” was fucking weird, but when I googled it there’s a whole wikipedia page for the song that says the line “tell me what is wrong with me” created speculation and rampant rumors that Cooke had leukemia, which was false… feels like I am still missing everything between point A and B, but that was a wild moment Bring it On Home to Me blew my mind. What a ballad. And when he says “I know I laughed HA HA HA when you left” the laugh part REALLY reminded be of Robbie for some reason lol

I am not a big Michael Jackson fan, so half of this album was new to me. I am still not a fan really :P XD

His songwriting is so awesome, but it’s hard for me to get into his voice. I was SHOCKED when There’s a World started playing, I actually thought I had queued up a random song by someone else. That one really took me out of the album as a whole, and I think it was the most difficult instrumental for me to enjoy with his voice. It was fun to finally listen to a Neil Young album. He’s one of my mom’s favorites, so I grew up hearing a ton of songs and probably some albums without knowing, but I had never sat down and listened to an album all the way through intentionally.

Imagine me with a cuppa nugs of sweet ganja, a garlic bread sammy from Cheba Hut, a hammock near NCAR parking lot overlooking Boulder, and this playing off of a little JBL speaker. That was a Thursday for me at 17. Absolute Cinema.

The first time I ever heard Get out of my House was with Ben while we were on a hiking/camping trip. He played it for me after we had driven over a mountain pass and were heading down into a forested valley. The sun had just set, and because of the windy road and dense trees we could only see a short ways ahead of us in the headlights. It was terrifying. I want to apologize for all of the bad things I said about Deep Purple. This is the worst album I have ever heard. I cannot fathom it being topped as the bottom. If you genuinely LIKE or LOVE this album then you fucking suck and have actual problems BAD BAD BAD and you NEED help NOW (yesterday). pretty indifferent to this one. Some of the songs were nice or interesting, but I feel like most of it just passed over me.

In this realm of music, I don’t think Bill Callahan is the greatest. I think the instrumentation of many of the songs is beautiful, while remaining quite simple, but I wish it did more at times. The drums especially. I think it’s nice go find a singer who’s good without really singing ? He talks musically. I think Apocalypse is a better album.

you gotta listen to Marilyn if you want to be a Man, son XD I have seen so many interviews of Marilyn Manson and always thought it would be interesting to listen to, but I always assumed I would not be into it… and I was right. It is funny to listen to something that made 90s Christian parents spontaneously combust and know that it kinda aged into corniness ? Like all of the heaven and hell stuff just doesn’t hit anymore… and like “i wish I was dead” is what I say when I am mildly inconvenienced at work ? so it just doesn’t really work anymore TO ME BUT i did find a lot of the sounds of instruments and vocal styling to be cool

i like this one, but it doesn’t hold a candle to Frank in the Oldie music video ❤️

I was actually really surprised by how much I did NOT like this. Bruce Springsteen kinda sounds like Jimmy Fallon doing an impression of Bruce Springsteen, like it doesn’t sound like an actual person sounds like that. I don’t think I will purposefully listen to a Springsteen song again. My mom is from New Jersey and she’s gonna be sad to find out I do not like this guy

I actually love the guitar in this way more than I remembered. Agreed with others around having problems with the vocals being bad often, but mostly really enjoyed the songs. Best for me was finches, that song was valid af

I can’t describe it without it sounding cringe to me, but I love how human and personal music like this sounds. When I listen to it it feels like I am in the same room as Gillian and she is just playing it for herself, and I am lucky enough to listen. I fucking love this album

I had wanted to listen to this album for a few years. I saved it back when I listened to a lot of Yo La Tengo and the like. Honestly, it was kind of a let down. I think it all sounded fine, but it was just not very convincing. So many of the songs just sounded like a small band was playing in a bar, and not at all like they meant what they were singing. Like I DONT BELIEVE that you are so lonesome that you could cry, not one bit.
