Well good I thought. Best songs are Visions, Living for the City and Higher Ground, but there wasn't a bad song on the thing! Good start
I've heard the singles off this album before. Lots of good stuff here, mayhaps a touch samey when played as an album. Best song of the new ones to me is Working on the Highway.
Yawnnnn! Nice and short at least, but twas just 33 minutes of lift music.
Always nice to hear Janis Jopping, but I think a lot of this album is missing the intensity I like from her. There's some obvious highlights (Turtle Blues is very good and I hadn't heard it before) but yeah not sure about her with the band
I love all of these songs more than my own children. Truly firing on all cylinders. Going from When I Kissed the Teacher to Dancing Queen is a stroke of pure genius. Absolutely love it x
Some good songs I know and one or two that are new to me that I liked. Generally samey, and the cover of Spanish Harlem going "lala lala" throughout annoyed me. Generally good tho
Second half of this album is better than the first. Enjoy the "Wake up" song from the Tommy Lee Royce nice gay play, and the final song from the blizzard first half. Can't always tell what he's saying and it's not the music I love, but good array of instruments and styles to keep me engaged.
All rather samey, no real bangerz and it's all a bit "why won't me bird kiss me". We need something exciting at least once I think x
Well, 9/10 of these songs was just silly indie music that should be in the background of some teen film or Gavin and Stacey. Nice guitars I guess. However the song called "Don't" was fab, just screaming over and over again. Not enough to raise it into a pass I'm afraid x
Second Arcade Fire album already! Prefer this one to the first, great first 5 songs (best is Intervention, like a good organ) but it drops off a bit at Ocean of Noise. Not as good after that U C, that song was much too obvious. Still solid though
She's got a lovely wee voice and it's all very easy to listen to. Would be nice to have on with a car ride with ar Stephanie. But at 75 mins it does go on a wee bit, would maybe rate higher if it was 45 mins. Overall solid tho
Nice background music, but that's all it is for me. Where's the drama x
Got this album this morning and went "ugh". I finished all 72 minutes of it and thought "not half bad". Some highlights (Pictures of You), but it's not really my musical style. Regardless, tis good, better than their poppy singles.
His best song is "Just give a kidney, to a father or a dad", and that wasn't on this album for some reason. Really disliked the singing on this in the morning but the backing band is great! Some great wee tunes, but lacklustre writing and ok singing performance. Overall good
Ooooo one I really like! Not familiar with their electronic stuff much before today, but I was having a right groovy old time here. Love the juxtaposition of electronic music and Tracey Thorn's voice, creates a chill but still boppy vibe.
I appreciated this album for it's wide use of instruments and varying wee songs. I enjoyed my time and think it's rather good, but I'm not gonna listen to it again. A change is as good as a rest though, far better than the usual boring men x
Groovy baby! Coulda done with 1 or 2 more bangers, coz nothing else compares with the first song
Fucking BORINGGG every song is the sameeeee shut up
First time listening to a PJ Harvey album. Love this gal, but I'm reluctant to give this a 5 because I think she's gonna have freakier stuff. Some fantastic songs on here, good horse content.
Nice Simpsons song, mid rest of it yaknow. Bring the drama divas x
The only Peter Gabriel solo album here not to feature Kate, smh. This album is best when it leans into prog and operatic vibes, and less so when in the middle songs where it feels a tad dull. All albums should have a song called Moribund the Burgermeister though.
She took the kids 💔 literally get a grip. Build a bridge and get over it you know what I mean x
Each and every one of these songs sounds the same as all of the others. Far too long. Give us some bops diva
Nina Simone is pure perfection, you feel every word she sings, and her piano playing is next to none. Truly one of the best performers of all time. She is woefully underrepresented in this list. I think she has better albums than this, but I just die for Nina singing any song really. Beautiful piece of music
Was expecting some rhythm and blues, got some reet dull 90s rock. Ew. Not the one for me. Looked them up on Wikipedia and became more annoyed lol. Does not deserve to be on the list.
God I miss the days of vinyl records. The invention of CDs was truly terrible, because it means that albums don't have to stop at the 45 minute mark. This woulda done so much better if it was condensed. It's got some nice tunes. Almost passes.
Went in with low expectations and found myself rather nicely surprised. Funny! Nicely paced lyrics so you could anticipate the rhyme, and was caught off guard by some genuinely fabulous lines. Fun!!
If you're gonna make indecipherable music at least try and make it sound nice. I just put it on in the background. Where is the love x
They forgot to put the banger from Flushed Away on this album. For shame. Also if they chopped this album at 45 mins maybe I would have passed it. The final 20 mins were a true slog.
I had a nice walk around the reservoir whilst listening to this album which probably helped, but it did have nice tunes and wasn't drowned out by electric guitar. Probably a smidge too long but not awfully long. Wilmslow represent.
It's got 2 fantastic singles on and the rest of the songs are also pretty good. Hehe
2 of the best songs in this album. Discovered some other good ones here. Some of them felt a wee bit like repeats but yaknow the good outweighs the bad by a long shot.
Hmmmm I don't think so babes! Just guitars and drums and waiting for things to happen.
Nice to see Cameron Diaz in the album list.
Nice easy listening with the best song saved til the end. Not too long. Can't see myself listening again.
Never heard of it before but really enjoyed this one! Great vibes and songs were all a good length (they suit the slower vibe of some of the music without droning on too long). He's got a lovely voice. Almost gave it a 5. Second listen confirms it as a 4
First Beatles album. This one feels rather "easy listening" which isn't a bad thing, but isn't great either. I prefer when they do more drugs and such. I feel like the songs are so short that they never get meaty enough for my liking, which I know isn't true for all of the Beatles stuff. There wasn't a bad song on here until the end when we decided to kill our bird. Fucks sake.
Really nice album, with one half of pop songs and one half really good instrumental. Nice improvised vibe to it, makes it feel free. Well done Bowie love.
I think my view of who The Doors were was rather incorrect. I was expecting dull mopey songs (coz I only knew Riders of the Storm going in and such). This had some right bops (best one is Land Ho!) and a great rock and/or roll vibe. Lovely surprise!
Big up Macclesfield and all that and I'm sorry you died Ian, but this is rather dull I'm afraid. No rizz. Boring man music that I think people like because of the album cover. Makes a cool t shirt I guess
How the fuck does this have an average score below 3?! This album is a masterpiece. This lady is heartbroken, and you're giving low scores because she's interesting? (I assume). I'm sorry that it's too challenging for you Men.
Anyhow, it's not my absolute favourite Björk album but it's deffo up there. Just heartbreaking and gorgeous with those beautiful strings xx
Mixed bag, but overall a good bag. The parts where it was just Neil Young on the mic were the best (coz he's obviously got a proper standout voice). Helpless was a standout, alongside Woodstock by Joni which I didn't know was on this. Songs varied in quality but were never awful. Nice!
Okay I swear I gave this a good chance, but it was honestly like 2 phone ringtones going off at the same time whilst a cockerney complained about whores in the background. I know that Mr Rascal has many a hit song after this where the music is incorporated with the rapping (B B B b B B Bonkers and such), so clearly he made his music more appealing to me later on. I hated this tho, couldn't understand what was being said coz the music in the background annoyed me, so got the worst of both worlds.
Love Dolly, but I usually listen to her hits rather than full albums. This album is a nice time, but you know that the hits are Coat of Many Colors and Here I Am. The rest are nice but unmemorable really. Still a nice listen of course.
Didn't do a lot for me obviously. I read some of the reviews on here and they're all like "This really captures the spirit of 90s New York", which is also what people said about the film Caught Stealing. I've come to the conclusion that I don't want to be anywhere near 90s New York, it seems a terrible place! I would rather spend my time in nicer surrounds.
"It must be nice to be a man and make boring music just because you can" ~ Florence Welch (who is missing from the list)
Didn't mind this! Very nice actual music. Couldn't really tell what he was moaning on about, but it didn't distract from just listening to the music in the background. Good!
The album has "Let it Grow" on there. Didn't know Eric Clapped-out did the music for The Lorax.
This was rather uninteresting music apart from I Shot The Sheriff, which I knew to be a cover. Looked this up on Wikipedia and they're mostly covers! What is the point of this. It's not awful, but not good enough to pass.
Don't think I've ever heard Solange Knowles sing before but I really enjoyed this album. Nice and eclectic. The interludes I thought added a great deal, broke up the songs and was a nice way to introduce the next number. Lovely voice.
It's nice music and the title track is great. Flute mixes well with the rock. Reminds me of Christmas because they have the Christmas song. Wasn't really in the mood for this today though, and it got a wee bit samey I fear.
Banger after banger. Hadn't heard the album in it's entirety before but twas a great time. "Keep the Customers Satisfied" is an all time banger. Great time!
Never heard of this before. This peaked in the middle rather with the Androgyny and the Unsatisfied song rather, which is better than peaking early. It had aspects of stuff from 10 years after it's release, which I guess means it's visionary or something, but I don't like the 90s stuff yaknow solo. Overall enough good to give it a pass though and a good length.
Never listened to Radiohead properly, but thought that it was generally dull music for dull people. Still, I was ready to have my mind changed today. There were flashes of interesting music and ideas, but no single song grabbed me particularly. So this doesn't get a passing grade today, but I want to keep my mind open for the next album of theirs on the list.
The first half was a bit stronger than the second, but it was all very listenable rather. At least 4 songs that I think could make it onto my list. No Black Widow Baby tho, must be on a different album
The last song on this album was absolutely cracker. There were some generally more pleasant songs focusing on the piano occasionally. However, most of it was the grungy (meaning more of a general descriptor rather than of the music genre) rubbish that their other album on here consisted entirely of. So it can have 2 stars from me, but much better than their other album (but this one was longerrrr)
Hmmmmmmmmm thought this would be more fun (based on the Alright song you know the one). Far more bland and Britpop than I was hoping for, but did have interesting parts. Hmmmmmmmmm. Yeah 2 seems right.
Some lovely tunes. Nice time. But I couldn't just listen to this on it's own with nothing else to do yaknow. It's background music to me because there's not enough highs and lows. But it is nice stuff.
I fully comprehend that this album is quite early for new wave, and will therefore be described as an influential and important album. I'm just seeing if I like the albums or not, and I wasn't wowed by this. Just quite a lot of noise with talk singing in the background. Ew. But there were some interesting musical choices sometimes
I mean, it's Kate Bush, it automatically gets 5 stars. Well that's not quite true. This album is just a collection of fantastic songs, like a songbook, but isn't as thematically consistent as some of her masterpieces. Regardless, her songs are so good that they blow most other albums here out of the water. Forever and always my queen.
Nice! Nice eclectic tunes rather and some great lines from MIA. It's the kinda music to inject vaccines to x. The one issue I have is that the songs all go on too long for me, because they don't have highs and lows and such, just feels slightly repetitious after a bit x
