Reviews (page 8 of 8)

this sounds like the lovechild of noncey jacko and phil collins. it sounds just as horrific as both the mental image of them producing the lovechild and the lovechild itself.

Scritti Politti performed at my nan's 70th birthday party. They hopped on stage and began sucking eachother's dicks like their lives depended on it. My nan couldn't mask her disgust and stormed out. The rest of us enjoyed the rest of the show and later ate sausage rolls and had chats about our latest diets and the podcasts we were currently enjoying. Nan was found dead, hanging from a tree in the woods outside. The funeral was a sad occasion and we all consoled ourselves by hiring Scritti Politti to perform, where they proceeded to suck eachother off once again, this time on top.of her stupid coffin.

Sounds like a camp Michael Jackson, without the noncing...probably...maybe not.

Although I can't deny tapping my foot to some of the bouncy, trouncy beats, overall I'm not a fan of the Michael Jackson-lite singing and this style of music. Need to go listen to some classic Who or Led Zeppelin as an antidote. 2 stars.

Started off with a bit of potential but quickly became just a background annoyance.

Kon hier echt niet langer dan 1,5 nummer naar luisteren sorry!!

Dit vond ik niks

Mid 80s soul/pop album that sounds exactly like Prince and Janet Jackson sounded at that time, but without an inkling of their respective genius. Pity. 2/5

Sounds like band called Scritti Politti. 3 stars.

Awww, I was into them early 80's (I bought Songs to Remember and Wood Beez). This takes me back but I realise a lot of people will hate it as 80's pop. Good solid tunes but nothing special I guess.

So catchy but also SO incredibly annoying. Their earlier, less commercial endeavors are light years better.

What am I missing here?

Check out Miles Davis’s cover of Perfect Way.

Oddly enough I actually enjoyed this one. Very typical 80s sound by the book. Interesting mix of sounds on this one.

Almost painfully 80's. I liked it.

This guy listened to his contemporaries, learned all the wrong lessons, and then tried to copy them

I don't have a purpose omission, I'm empty by definition.

4/5 the weeknd com michael jackson e notas de depeche mode

Pretty bad eighties music that aged pretty badly since.

Pretty good mid-80's fare. It's not bad to listen to, but every track is just the same template. They had the one hit, but didn't do anything to standout from all the other similar bands of the time.

This is like male Madonna stuff. very clinky and synthy. how ultimately dull.

Sounds dated, but I hear the innovation here.

J’ai juste trouve ca vraiment trs moyen… 2

Ei tääkään nyt lähde mulle yhtään. Tylsää 2/5

Tää meni jo tuskalliseksi. Yhdentekevää kuin AI:n säveltämä MJ/Prince.

Varmaan merkittävä levy Briteissä mutta vaikea ulkopuolelta saada kiinni. En kauheesti ehtiny keskittyä sanoihin, jotka on kai hyviä. Kakkoseen jää.

Listened Before? N Pretty standard 80's pop stuff here. Enjoyable enough but really not much special IMO. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: Perfect Way

It's interesting? But it's very 80s and sounds super dated. A historical curiosity but nothing more than that.

4.1 - Around the 2010's I was listening to lots of bands like Oneohtrix Point Never, Com Truise, Haim... that incorporated 1980's synth sounds. To me, this Scritti Politti record, which I'd never heard before, surpasses most of that 80's revivalism, providing the very source material for its imitators. All of the tricks and tropes are on here, and SP weave this smattering of elements artfully. It's an impressive album-length timepiece of swirly and colorful bubble gum.

The album's title is a reference to the classical Greek myth of Cupid and Psyche, and the themes of love and desire are explored throughout the album's ten tracks. The production on this album is fresh, with lush, intricate arrangements that showcase the band's technical skill. The album's standout tracks include "Perfect Way," which was a massive hit and remains one of the band's most beloved songs. This upbeat, funky track is characterized by its catchy chorus, infectious melody, and clever lyrics. "The Word Girl" is another standout track, featuring one of the better vocal performances by lead singer Green Gartside and a driving rhythm section that propels the song forward. Other standout tracks on the album include "Absolute," which features a dreamy, ethereal atmosphere and a good vocal performance by Gartside, and "Hypnotize," which has a hypnotic, trance-like quality. One negative about the album is how Scritti Politti sometimes fail to showcase the knack for creating innovative and unique sounds. They do the more basic stuff well though, and it’s not a bad listen.

This is a mistake, right? There are a total of four reviews for this thing (3 one star reviews and one generous 2). Was there suddenly a massive revisionist history on this album that suggested it suddenly and immediately get added to the list? I'll give it this much: Perfect Way is a pleasant little pop song. For 1985. And one that '80's stations can't even bother to dust off now and then. Everything else sounds like it soundtracks an awful '80's movie like Zapped or Short Circuit.

Never heard of this band before. Should’ve kept it that way. This album sucks.

Three words will make my blood run cold now: 80s British pop. Getting that out of the way, I don’t really understand why I needed to hear this before I slip the mortal coil. I’m happy for Mr. Gartside’s success in the 80s, but this is just like Wham! without George Michael. It was fine at the time, but feels redundant in this small list of albums to hear before I hear no more.

Aw hell nah miss me with that 80s bullshit.

Perfect Way was lyrically interesting, but the music did absolutely nothing for me. In general, I think the issue was probably my feelings about generic 80s synth pop. The songs that were musically slightly more interesting did nothing for me lyrically. Some more boring to me on both fronts. The description says that there is preoccupation with politics in the lyrics, but that doesn’t really come across very much. Interest in words and wordplay, sure, but barely anything here seemed intensely political.

Aivan todella yllättävä albumi, ja yllättävän huono

Kuulkaas pojat, nyt kannattaisi pitää pieni tauko ja vetää vähän henkeä. Kyllä se siitä - tällaiselle ei ole mitään tarvetta.
