Antony and the Johnsons
1/5
Seriously I don't even understand what this list is anymore, if I did in the first place. Why is this album there, what is it about this that I need to listen to. In terms of music, we'll if you like a bloke gargling white spirit whilst singing about his flip flops being made from paste this is for you. One piano note rolls out every 4 bars to be dramatic, I guess. This album is like being made to cut the lawn with a pair of blunt scissors whilst birds peck at you and the cat can't even be bothered to piss on you, she has such contempt in her eyes.

The Prodigy

They blended electronic with rock not the first to do it but the first to do it well. Every song here is a banger. Every song something new and exciting sounds as awesome as it did at the time and blows a lot of contemporary music up.

Tricky
5/5
One of the finest albums of all time by one of the most overlooked artists. Tricky deals with a collapsing world and reconstructs it in his own image. The visceral imagery is delivered over bare thumping tracks and incredible noises. A masterclass in what music can and should be difficult, beautiful and haunting. Topley Birds gorgeous voice gives a counter to the snarls and stones paranoia of tricky vocals. It's a banger folks.

Massive Attack

listen without prejudice they say, it's so hard. I grew up in Bristol, I was a teenager when this whole thing was kicking off. So strip away the hometown pride and teenage navel gazing what have you got? Basically a tsunami of an album one of the most distinct and incredible elements of this album is the bass, the bass is omnipresent loud and driving you have to remember that it was all guitars at the time. but they brought that heavy bass sound. Songs like safe from harm and one love, make Bass the king. the other thing that's great about this album is no one owns it, you have Horace Andy singing, 3D and Tricky rapping and Shara Nelson's iconic vocals. each song sounds differnt each song engages you in a differnt way, Yet it's cohesive. To me this album is the definition of collaboration. I could go on and on, folklore and drama surround it, but it's the music right and the music is so sweet. The shipping rhythms, the rolling bass and dream like pads make the music a waking dream something dark and beautiful. I'd give this a 6 if I could it's their best album by far and one of the best albums I've heard on this darn book list.

The White Stripes
4/5
A great album, cantbuy believe I've never listened to this one. Pushing it in all directions. Great energy.
T. Rex
2/5
Wanted to like it but was kinda dull and creepy. 20th century boy is great song. Didn't like much else though.
Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five
4/5
An odd album some stevie wonder influenced soul and even some gospel. It was very preachy and found its voice in the awesome message. I enjoyed it I liked the view of 80s New York ghetto and hearing all those influences played out before hiphop got really going.
The Smiths
5/5
Absolute classic, what I hate about Morrissey is how great the Smith's stuff is. Truly remarkable music and lyrics takes you somewhere else, somewhere fragile, beautiful and dangerous. Just a shame it was created by an absolute twat.
David Bowie
2/5
Yeah was ok couldn't get that excited about it
David Bowie
3/5
Interesting album particularly liked the instrumentals towards the end. Wouldn't mind listening to again.
Living Colour
2/5
Bog standard rock, lyrics were interesting but cant get excited.
T. Rex
3/5
Much more enjoyable than electric warrior. A slice of glam rock pop wonderful with a peice of ham.
Hugh Masekela
5/5
Wow, was not expecting to listen to Jazz this good. I do like a bit of Jazz but find it's one song at a time when I'm in the mood. But this whole album had me from the start. It did something all good music should do it took me somewhere else. Sucked into my own cerbum via the lug hole and transcended into a planet of jazz. There were so many little hooks and moments in the massively resplentdantly long songs total banger will check this geezer out for sure.
Milton Nascimento

Bored so bored.

The Band

Just really not my cup of tea, hope they sort the harvest out.
William Orbit
4/5
Enjoyed this immensely remembered some of the tunes on here from amvient mixes back in the day. Took me back and to far of chilledness.
The Flaming Lips
3/5
I remember everyone loved this tears ago and at the time I couldn't get into maybe over hyped. 2 decades on wouldn't say I would get over excited about it but pleasant enougth the concepts a bit lost on me. Don't what the beef with robots is?
Prince
4/5
Really love this album some great songs on there, doves cry and purple rain. But it creates a sound that sleazy, wholesome confused pop and funk. It's so conflicted it makes this unique pop that is so not pop. I don't know how to describe it really but great stuff
The Smiths
5/5
What makes an album? Is it themes: musically, lyrically or narrativly? Is it a bug idea split into chapters like a book? Or is it simply that every song is great in it's own right and deserves a place on the album? This album does that, every song is amazing lyrically, musically the lot. Still a bunch of despicable twats though!
The Yardbirds
4/5
Coldplay
1/5
With this project I find it hard to break away from the nostalgia of albums I loved in younger years. Conversely it's the same to listen to music of bands I hate. I tried but it's still shit. The music is dull the lyrics are so ernest I want to barf . His vocals are those of a bored supply teacher. I hate this so much.
Public Enemy
5/5
Great songs great noise. The political weight and intellect brought by chuck D contrasted with Flavs craziness still sounds fresh now. Mad noises too
The B-52's
3/5
Lots of fun, crazy guitar and vocals. Interesting would I listen again? Don't know
Scott Walker
2/5
Was quite excited to hear this as im a huge fan of Nick Cave. Comparisons and refernces always point to Scott. The music was just not to my taste. Too much orchestra, his voice was ok and lyrics alright, but the music just put me off. Possibly it's a grower and I'm missing out. Who knows.
Paul Simon
1/5
One thing this process has taught me us that Ireally dont like Paul Simon hes mumbly wistful obtuse storytelling just gets my goat. The music is just bland and the whole thing sucks man. If this album were to a fairground ride it would be one that goes really slow and boring but still makes you sick and break your legs. Probably give you tinnitus as well.
Nick Drake
5/5
I liked this very much, the brooding melancholy the dispirited lyrics and disheveled music. It took me somewhere dark and uncomfortable I must now listen to all his music.
ABBA
1/5
I started not hating this and maybe thinking I should rethink my ABBA prejudices. But it was a grower in the wrong way. Relentlessly being smacked with boring pop, endless over sentimental ballads about what I have no idea. By the last few songs I wanted the noise to stop I wanted me and the whole world to stop. A small peice of me died today.
Isaac Hayes
4/5
Amazing recognised so much of thos from the wu tang and various hip hop album. Weird sexy and differnt amazing music. Liked how the album had like 4 songs but each one lasted ages
Brian Eno
2/5
I didn't hate it.
Otis Redding
5/5
What a voice, what songs, what versions. It's achingly beautiful.
Richard Thompson
1/5
I hated this so much it was like having all the annoying niggly thoughts that run around your head put to shit music. The ones that drag you down the banal the superfluous the 'should I go to the shops' or 'I'm fed up of eating nuts'. Aĺl these thoughts put to a bunch 9f horrible folly country just nasty sounds. An what was beggar girl all about!
Donovan
3/5
Nice, My Mum used to love Donovon so yay. Mostly great bangers and he's defo got some great tracks: sunshine superman, the season of the witch and the trip. Couple of duds Guinvere and three Kingfishers hurt me with their whiny whimsical dirge. So pound shop Dylan or forgotten genius, maybe just an all around good egg of an album cheers our Ma!
Hole
3/5
Better than Nirvana.
John Prine
4/5
Amazing Lyrics from a gifted storyteller. The earthy minutiae of life is given compelling narrative and colour. His stories seem to question the arbitrary and brutal nature of life. Fave quote "jesus does for nothing, I suppose". Music a but wank though.
Bob Marley & The Wailers
5/5
Bob, Nuff said
Cat Stevens
1/5
Overindulgent sentimental mush. Some nice tunes though
R.E.M.
3/5
Nice music, solid songwriting, reminds me of me youth.
Rage Against The Machine
5/5
What's to say the first Album that I bought and fell in love with. Was it the driving bass, amazing guitar, screaming vocals, unrepentant Marxism or raging hormones? This album was like my third parent I still refer back for guidance. It could be that it ruined my life or saved it. It was the first time in my life where I felt it was ok to swear to justify my feelings and politics. What a glorious thing.
Aerosmith
1/5
Big fat smelly turd, hurt my ears and my feelings.
The Youngbloods
2/5
If I was in the que for a beer on a sunny day, some where next to the water. I'd here this tap my foot and smile, I'd take the drinks back to the table and say to my wife. "Nice music" she'd ask if I wanted to buy the CD which the band had displayed for a fiver. "Nah" I'd say and we'd never discuss them again.
The Beach Boys
3/5
Nice album from those beach bums
LCD Soundsystem
4/5
Great little dance tracks set against, bitter sweet dystopian lyrics. Loved this, had not listened before but have had it on repeat since. Banger
Travis
2/5
Music equivalent of watching paint dry. "Why does it always rain on me...cos you're a dull twat."
Pink Floyd
4/5
Damn fine, lo fi poundshop psychedelica, before the technology kicked in and you to rely on good ol acid only. Really enjoyed this and spent the whole day listening to floyd. Only question is what is it with them 60s dudes and gnomes and pixies and shit.
Ash
3/5
It was fine
OutKast
3/5
Long and boxy with some classics mind
The Beach Boys
1/5
This was horrible, the only thing that ran though my mind was the question "is Brian Wilson a pevert" creepy lyrics and a clunky sound. Used to love the beach boys but now they feel more like the peeping Tom's!
Simon & Garfunkel
3/5
Simon and Garfunkel always reminds me of being a kid in the back of the car. My parents would talk and argue over maps, I would daydream staring out the window as the vast prairie would stretch out for what seemed like an infinity. A bright glaring sun would illuminate the land and cast long sinister shadows.
I've never actually been to the states and the only S&G song my dad listened to was the one about a sparrow and a snail so must be an appropriated memory from a film or something.
Beastie Boys
5/5
The best album the beasties boys and a gateway drug for us ol indie fellas into hip hop and electronica back in the day. The bass on this album is amazing and some of the crunchiest funniest ever. The lyrics absurd from egg man to the Bouille bass skits at the end. Barrel of a gun is a thumping rock track and joyride just glorious. I have listened to this album many times and it never gets old. 'Some static started in the pool hall, hit the motherfuckers face with the que ball!'
Nico
1/5
Like being punched in the head by the sound of boredom.
The Rolling Stones
3/5
Was ok
Aretha Franklin
3/5
Great soul music, made me feel like a natural listener.
Paul Simon
2/5
Post colonial appropriation at its best. Paul Simon takes fine musicians and mumbles some bullshit over them. An incoherent and messy album with no real ideas beyond hey I really like 'their' stuff. The best song being homeless untill Paul jumps in at the end and screws it up.
Beatles
5/5
Absolute class. Bang bang Maxwell's silver hammer is an odd song about a serial killer. We used to sing this in primary school! Great songs from start to finish.
Screaming Trees
2/5
Was ok, bit boring.
The Slits
4/5
Been meaning to listen to this band for years and they did not disappoint. Incredible baselines and great lyrics delivered with great shakey effect making his a banging listen which I will defo revisit. Made me want to pogo in the air and shout 'Oi' take down the establishment and give everyone a hug.
Johnny Cash
2/5
What I really liked about this album was all the banter between songs. Very interesting idea going to a prison. Johnny seems to get of on it and talks as though he's in there with them. As for the music was ok he has a few crackers and I like his dark lyrics and gravel like vocals. Altough country music is not my fave.
The Rolling Stones
3/5
It was alright, I just can't get too excited about the stones. Don't know why?
Nirvana
4/5
I was a teenager when these guys were massive and all the girls fancied them. On this basis I never listened to them, i mean you couldn't avoid teen spirit but i closed my mind to them. 20odd years later and with the hormones settled a great gutsy album with memorable songs, shouting and screaming. It's where punk meets grunge and has a little pop baby.
Fleetwood Mac
2/5
For an album like this you need time. It may he a grower but was underwhelmed on first listen.
Why is Rod pretending to be american 'Tenn er see' I ask you? This album reminded me of the time I was waiting all night for a taxi whilst locked in a half full wheely bin with only a deranged incontinent blind cat for company. Sure the piss kept me warm as it ran down my back and the noxious smell of the half composted rubbish was a comfort as it sent me into a hallucinogenic state. But what really pissed me of was the 10er that I had for the taxi got soaked from the seeping mass of decomposing detritus. The taxi driver refused to take it and I had to walk home anyway.
Sam Cooke
4/5
Good quality Soul loves it.
Michael Kiwanuka
3/5
Great songs sung interestingly.
Devendra Banhart
3/5
I enjoyed listening to this it made me think I was on a crusty canal boat on the murky sulpur canals of vuleeian in the outer gas lands of Saturn. Alien type crusty boat dwellers and I would gather round small sulphur fires toasting yang-o- Tuuts discussing a simpler life and our disenchantment with capitalism. And like this album as intriguing as that was it got a little staid after a while, some of the noise granted but overall it was pleasant.
Bruce Springsteen
1/5
I've always found him interesting to listen to whilst being interviewed. I like his politics and his ideas but this album was like finding someone at a party who's into the same things as you but is really dull. As the shared beliefs fail to sustain interest you look for ways to escape but it's too late. All around people are having fun but not you, you and your stupid politics and your stuck till the whole thing plays out. Being 42 minutes thankfully that's not too long and as that person heads of (them not being a night owl) you neck your pint and hope there's a bit of party left.
Jazmine Sullivan
3/5
Enjoyed this album and made a change from what I've heard this far. The music reminded me of Missy elliot and the lyrics seemed to tackle issues!
Various Artists
4/5
Quality Christmas songs with that amazing wall of sound. Could be the best crimbo album
Muddy Waters
5/5
And here it is one of the finest Blues artists. Every song is a banger music to dance and to listen. We all know Blues music gave birth to pretty much everything we listen to but it's also amazing music in it's own right and Muddy waters is the master. The piano the brass the vocals all of it sublime.
Venom
2/5
Terrible music but was quite funny and made me laugh. How many different ways can you say Satan is the boss on proto thrash sounds? One apparently, just keep repeating it!
Sarah Vaughan
1/5
I know I should like this but 8 didn't sorry Sarah!
Cornershop
3/5
An enjoyable album, sweet groves and reflective lyrics. The great brimful of asha stands out but there is plenty in the rest of the album to enjoy.
The Band
3/5
Interesting music never really heard of them before. Will check out again.
Tricky
The Stooges
2/5
There's a couple of iggy pop songs I really like passengers, lust for life etc, but I haven't really listened to a whole album. When this came up I was very excited to listen to hidden gems or the hear the vision in full was a but disapoi ted it was all a bit dull. Right sounds attitude etc just a bit dull don't know why. Soz Ìgger
Gil Scott-Heron
3/5
Amazing lyrics from the no 1 voice of America. Music was a bit flurry.
Beatles
5/5
Pure quality rhythm and blues pop.
The Doors
4/5
As with all Doors albums the heady mix of filthy blues, psychedelia and that great voice and disturbed lyrics creates a great music.
James Brown
3/5
Quality soul from the hardest working man in music.
Ministry
3/5
Good quality industrial sounds. I never had this album in 92 but probably would have loved it. Sounds a bit dated now.
Sonic Youth
4/5
Nice sounds.
Nirvana
2/5
Equally enjoying as enjoyable. Kurt literally murders some songs with his nasally grunge whine. The conversation to acoustic takes out the fun and excitement of what make nirvana great. That said some nice turns great Bowie cover and sounded genuinely distressed in where did sleep last night. Overall bit of a miss for a great band.
Beatles
4/5
Quality beatles magic but not the most sublime.
The Prodigy
5/5
They blended electronic with rock not the first to do it but the first to do it well. Every song here is a banger. Every song something new and exciting sounds as awesome as it did at the time and blows a lot of contemporary music up.
Ali Farka Touré
3/5
Some really nice sounds but probably wouldn't listen again.
Aphex Twin
5/5
Takes me way back when we used to sit in me mates treehouse and smoke stuff we shouldn't have. Glourios sounds and moods that take you somewhere else ambient as a masterpiece. Aphex is the king
Franz Ferdinand
3/5
Likes this more than I remembered. Take me home is an absolute stinker of a tune. The rest is good enjoyable and I think I'd like them live.
Sade
1/5
I tried to ignore my preconceptions about this album. Turns out they were right, utter shite.
Amy Winehouse
2/5
Couple of interesting songs but on the whole not the most inspiring album the lyrics were a little concieted and self aware.
Simple Minds
2/5
Kept waiting for 'don't you forget about me' to come on and it never did. Didn't really matter as all the songs sounded the same and when the album finished I listened to their famous song which was a bit boring.
Suicide
3/5
Weirdly experimental for the time I could hear sonic youth, jesus and Mary chain and the white stripes in it. Dont know if they were aware of this band. Started strong then tailed of was beginning to lose interest then jonnys crying or whatever came on. That was intense drama pre dating Stan by slim shady by many years a kinda gothic horror story very intense. Overall wasn't sure if I liked it or not but will definitely remember it was an experience!
Orbital
4/5
Man love orbital, love this album brings back so many memories.
The Stooges
2/5
It was ok again wanted to like more than I did. Great energy but just miss with the songs.
Curtis Mayfield
4/5
Felt like I was driving around 1970s bronx in a Cadillac. Great sounds brass, drums all of it and great drama.
Funkadelic
5/5
Such awesome sounds, one nation under a groove man. Incredible guitarmanship, rythems and bass lines make this musically tight. But it's the craziness the songs they go in place you don't expect all while a kind of dogmatic lyrics of absurdness play out. You cannot underestimate one bands devotion to one word and one concept Funk and this is it.
Marty Robbins
1/5
What the actual fuck was he on about! Plus terrible terrible music like the sound of rain on a car roof.
CHIC
2/5
The first two songs were solid funky disco floor fillers. Excited, I listened on, the rest rather dull.
Tina Turner
2/5
Bog standard 80s AOR couldn't get too excited. A couple of good tunes but it really sounded like Genesis with Phil Collins in.
The Cure
4/5
A great vocalist and a great sound. You're transported away to a forest of danger and melancholy. Great stuff
Koffi Olomide
2/5
Just found myself switching off. Maybe live it was a set of great tunes to dance to sorry Koffi.
Stevie Wonder
4/5
Stevie in the 70s was on fire and made some of the beat music of all time. Altough this doesn't reach the heights of music in the key or inner visions it's still a fantastic album. The mix of pathos, injustice and banging music makes it a must for me.
Lambchop
1/5
To be honest don't remember listening it was just like a moment in time that was so unexceptional!
Lorde
1/5
One big fat cliche, not even very well done or orginal.
1/5
I try to ignore my previous feelings about bands and artists and this was particularly hard for me. I hated U2 cos my elder sister and her chums loved them, as an angry adolescent I wanted to find my own thing and so shut them out. a crazy attitude as my sister is an awesome person with great taste in music, but that's hormones for you. still relistening with an open mind I find it's pretty shit. over produced, concieted annoying metaphors and just really dull. I tried to like those first three songs so universally played and enjoyed but they left me cold. it just total arse.
Motörhead
3/5
Love ace of spades but the rest sounded same.
2/5
Pretty pants.
Tracy Chapman
3/5
Some really moving songs. And lyrically very engaging.
The Pogues
5/5
The differnt style, the crazed lyrics and the urgency make this a solid album. But what I enjoyed was that it was fun all the songs were bangers.
The Who
1/5
I remember watching this film and finding it slightly troubling. without the film this is just a massive pile of shite. there's nothing endearing the storytelling is non existent and the music sucks ass. seems a shame cos the who have created some great songs. just seems they disappeared up their own ass with this. also the lighthearted abuse by fiddling seems a funny thing to joke about.
PJ Harvey
5/5
I can't believe this album is over 10 years old still think of it as being current. ii quite like PJ but this album blew me away when I first heard it. the vision of it is staggering and quite unique. the visceral lyrics play on the horrors of war of the cultural constructs of nations. the music is amazing, distorted guitars, bulges and autoharp makes an altered sound. but back to the central album question what is it? this one answers by the fact the songs hang together all part of a shared vision of a something unique brutal and beautiful.
Tortoise
2/5
Background noise.
SZA
2/5
Alright I suppose, was a fairly standard randb pop affair.
The Stone Roses
5/5
Some of the best songs ever written. A couple of duds though still what a banger.
John Martyn
2/5
Bit dull
Korn
1/5
Just about listenable weird metal with the odd scooby doo sound init. Nit my bag soz.
Songhoy Blues
4/5
Good quality music
Ice Cube
4/5
Ice cube at the height of his powers in terms of lyrical content. You can literally see the birthing pains of gangsta rap. His subject is the oppression of African Americans and the weight of the system. But is also outrageously misogynistic and a bit hung ho. Would probably be quite tame by later standards and still has some meangingful politics in there. He is a splendid rapper mind and the tunes are quality bass heavy hip hop from it's golden years.
Green Day
2/5
The last album with Guitars I bought before I fell head first into electronica and a green vynal as well. Like all green day albums a great lead song and a load of mush. These guys made this whole american punk pop sound that seemed to go on forever. It kinda takes the edge of punk and has these annoying vocals. Basket case is a good song though
Queen
3/5
Bo rap is a fantastic song takes music some where its never been before. The rest is pants
The Modern Lovers
3/5
Was described as proto punk but reminded me more of the doors. Was alright some interesting wounds and ideas.
Roxy Music
3/5
Was curious to listen to a Roxy album as they have featured in many books I've read over the years. I knew a couple of their songs and there are some really interesting tunes here. A kind of darker underbelly of pop that has intriguing moments.
Nightmares On Wax
5/5
Man oh man what an album. This takes me right back. The pure laid back sounds and grooves. I've smoked a lot to this album over the years. But 20 years late and sober as a judge still sounds awesome. You do need the bass up mind.
Beatles
5/5
A great collection of great songs. One of the best Beatles albums all is bangingness from the higher temple of awesomeness.
Elvis Costello & The Attractions
3/5
Wanted to listen to Elvis for a while, I was aware of his works. An interesting album although sounded a little dated good though.
The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion
3/5
Inudal an interesting never heard of this before. Liked the screaming and the funky blues sounds. One criticism too many songs felt like a lot of unfinished ideas towards the end. But overall enjoyed.
Alice In Chains
2/5
Really didn't like this felt like a chore.
Fleetwood Mac
5/5
Now this is a funny one, previously I'd dismissed this into the same category as ABBA or old pop. Course I'd heard the odd tune of the radio telly or whatever but had in no way engaged. Then a liverpudlian Bassist suggest we cover one of their songs. This made actually listen to them for the first time. At the same time the chain appeared in a dvd we were watching at the time about space bandits. And from there its grown the more I've listened the more I've enjoyed the variety of vocals and sounds. The pathos seems very real and the music is really quite beautiful. I was listening to this as the sun came up yesterday on a walk over the hills of my local area and I guenilly felt moved and tearful. Not many albums can do that.
Bad Company
2/5
Thought it was a covers band but it wasn't
The Rolling Stones
3/5
Some solid stones tunes on here and altough a good listen the stones never take me to the heights.
Black Sabbath
2/5
Rhe opening song was fine and whilst I understand the appeal I don't feel it. Obviously an important album in the history of metal and Ozzys vocals are strong. Just wizards and ghouls played to slow blues is just not my thang.
Funkadelic
5/5
Yes yes yes. Funkadelics grown up album. Takes you on a sonic journey through time and space. O lay criticism is that they could've had one song where they just said funk.
Lucinda Williams
1/5
I tried to be objective it's really not my sort of music. It wa professionally produced tinnitus.
Aretha Franklin
5/5
Quality soul, Aretha at her strongest.
Stevie Wonder
5/5
"New york City, skyscrapers and everthing" if I could have given this album a 6 I would have. Probably one of the best albums of all time and Stevie's masterpiece. The songs and the lyrics tell a story of america that is both joyous and dark. From mishra know it all to living for the city the story of injustice is told. But there's more to it love songs party songs. This is not just story of oppression but joy and hope as well. Dont you worry about a thing.
Air
2/5
It wasn't that this album was terrible it was the fact it wasn't moon safari or anywhere near.
Johnny Cash
4/5
Jonny creates a dark brooding soundscape and makes his own a disparate set of covers. Somehow he brings them all into this one vision, tails off at the end but the pared back RICK Ruben sounds is great
The Hives
3/5
Very much liked this at the time but in reality there is only one stand out song and it's a good song.
AC/DC
2/5
I know I know, just not that interesting
3/5
Brings back memories still proffered Blur!!!!
The Auteurs
1/5
Showgirl was a nice song I'd heard on a compilation many moons ago. The rest complete arse.
Lou Reed
1/5
Man I love transformer and Velvet Underground. Ans you know I get it was a concept but it really did sound like someone od ing and throwing up in an alleyway. Absolute Jizz.
Leonard Cohen
3/5
Quality lyrics from a brooding man. Music was nice but not incredible got the feeling that if I listened it loads I'd love it.
Genesis
1/5
One of the reasons why punk happened!
Parliament
5/5
We have the funk, what a banger.
Led Zeppelin
2/5
Was alright I want to like them more than I do. They have some cracking songs but not on this album.
Randy Newman
1/5
Every song made me think of an 80s american sitcom or romcom about an earnest working class man who's only trying to do the right thing. How he fell for a heiress/alien/artist or some other improbable person.
Awful.
Garbage
2/5
Hmm not as good as remember hasn't aged well
The Byrds
3/5
Lots of childhood memories wrapped in this almost nursery rhyme album.
ZZ Top
1/5
This was just shit, what were they in about? A whole song about a lady who can use her legs jeez man. Terrible terrible
Iggy Pop
3/5
Enjoyed, some recognizable tunes and fune proto punk poppy album from the Iggster
Liz Phair
4/5
Enjoyed this very much, had never heard of her before. Great lyrics and a groovy sound will defo check her work out.
Eagles
2/5
I know people love this but not me hombre
Judas Priest
2/5
Only giving it 2 stars as breaking the law remind me of beavis and butthead but generally bollox.
Fela Kuti
3/5
Really enjoyed this however 14 mins seems a bit long for a song. They seemed to have a 6 minute warm up then some vocals and then a jam. It was funky and groovy and probably really good to dance to. Probably wouldn't listen again though.
Dirty Projectors
1/5
Pretty much unlistenable the worst album I've ever heard.
Rufus Wainwright
1/5
Rufus combines classical, pop, poetry and melancholy, to terrible effect. He gets the worst from all these things and makes a god awful mess. It's like nick cave with out the dark humour and melancholic poetry. Mozart with just the shit garden centre twiddles. It's like nothing I want to listen to again.
Elvis Presley
2/5
Hmm terrible pathos riven drivel
Van Halen
2/5
Not as bad as I feared. Guitar solo song strangely com0leling
Steely Dan
2/5
Alright I supose not sure I'd listen again, sounded quite dated
Traffic
2/5
Odd and old
Pantera
1/5
It felt like I was under attack, which I suppose was the point. It was more physical experience than music like going on a fairground ride. Once you got over the adrenaline it was just not very exciting or interesting. There is music I like that does similar things but this just felt pointless.
Red Hot Chili Peppers
4/5
What classic. This was the peppers at the height of their powers before they went of and did calinfornibollox and all those terrible albums. It's weird, its funky its sex obsessed I fell for this album as a teenager and return to it periodically. Funky slap bass and cosmic groves.
Yes
3/5
Interesting album enjoyed listening to their psychedelic ramblings. One thing this process has taught me is not to fear songs longer than 10 minutes!!
Harry Nilsson
2/5
Strange liked the first song the rest was a bit like weird pop. Was ok but never really got there again.
Beyoncé
2/5
I tried and I tried just couldn't get there.
Hüsker Dü
2/5
Bit bored
Joni Mitchell
1/5
I think this album/musician is important but I just didn't dig it.
The Waterboys
2/5
Pah
Guns N' Roses
2/5
Har har. Got into this album at that tender pre teen age. It seemed angry enougth and was peppered with enougth swears and attitude. Listening today is a chore it all seems so obvious and well a bit slow. Even the big hitters of sweet child and paradise city grind on too long. I see this as kinda of a gateway drug leading on better more fucked up things!!!
Iron Butterfly
1/5
elvis got duped into buying fake lsd and had a good ish time.
Cypress Hill
4/5
If I'm honest I got into this on the back of black Sunday which wa the album after. But after all these years sounds great. They crew a sound like no other with their funky break down and contrasting voices. Stoned is the way of the walk is still one my all time favourite hip hop songs.
3/5
Yeah quite enjoyed this some quite interesting songs and some bangers like starman. It was gentle, aqward and weird but in a good way.
Dexys Midnight Runners
2/5
never realised they made more than one song and after listening to the album not sure I wanted to hear the rest. I don't know what this music is, what it's about or what its saying? that may not be a bad thing, but it just wernt groovy man, felt bored stressed and annoyed and just wanted it to end. only reason it's not getting a 1 is cos of Eileen
Supertramp
2/5
Strange old music was ok an odd mix of rock and and pop. Already knew dreamer because I think it was sampled in a rave song. Wouldn't get out of bed for it.
Massive Attack
5/5
listen without prejudice they say, it's so hard.
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
5/5
a big fan of Nick Cave this is one of my fave albums and probably the only successful double album I've encountered on this book/app thang so far. I've got it on cd one is pink the other yellow. Nick takes us to hell and back again, in what is quite an expansive album. What I love about Nick is his storytelling, so visceral and compelling. weirdly I sometimes don't think of it as music, but more poetry stories put to music, but that's wrong they are integral to both. and each song is a story, from the menancing fable and lyre of orpheus to the majestic beautiful world. The songs explore finite and nuanced worlds with humour, darkness and pathos in equal measure. The music acts as the driving force for these stories, weird instruments and driving guitars create a sound that simple yet complicated, discordant yet melodic. like Nick Cave its contradictions that makes it so wonderful.
Paul McCartney and Wings
1/5
In my mind I try and dissociate Wings and the Beatles I can't reconcile the two. This was , I think their biggest album and brings up a feeling akin to car sickness. Which I suppose is apt as I remeber my dad playing these songs on car journeys. Paul tries all the old beatles tricks and fails fails fails. Songs like Jet and Band on the Run are the most famous and probably the most tolerable. I can't understand how someone can write Yesterday and Hey Jude could write this arse. Most bands have a difficult second album whilst Paul had a difficult second band. It's a 1.5
Hole
3/5
liked the first song good sound, the rest was surprisingly pedestrian, toothed side of boring. Still better than Nirvana.
Solomon Burke
4/5
There are some mind-blowing good songs on this album and some really lack lutre ones. But a great voice and soo much heart ache makes this a stomper.
Raekwon
4/5
I started listening to this album thinking oh here we go again, gangsters and hos from one of the ol Wu Tang lot. But by the end I was hooked, what Raekwon did was take those dissonant and melancholy sounds married to some beats and spoke elegantly to it all. It was like a hip hopera the highs and lows. Dirty deals and need to succeed and get out. And while the lyrics were no Gill Scott Heron they were right and concise. Yes this was very good well done Raekwon from 2 decades ago.
Cyndi Lauper
1/5
Well I liked girls wanna have fun cos who doesn't right. But the rest of the album sounded like someone being sick after downing two many vodkas and singing on top of their lungs are the local nightclub. Lyrically vapid ,musically just horrible.
The Fall
4/5
Nice stuff from Mark E Smith and the gang. Bleak post punk sounds that I love so.
Bob Dylan
5/5
Love it baby, Dylan at his lyrical best
My Bloody Valentine
4/5
Lovely noisy nonsense
Al Green
2/5
I love Al but I didn't love this.
Jeff Beck
2/5
Truth is I'm not really a fan of this album or artist. Blues/rock is some of my favourite type of music but for some reason this just misses time and again. Could it be that he's mate with that famous wife beater and serial gaslighter that has subconsciously put me off? it's like hendrix without the subversion, like cream without the talent or even the stones without the sultry pouting. can't pin it down but the thing lacks groove man.
Sly & The Family Stone
4/5
Quality funk with powerful grooves and a wholesomee message. Man these guys try everything from vocal fxs to funky low fried beans. This album is so funky I could put it in the attic and grow mushrooms on it.
Fugees
5/5
To me this is hiphop at it's best thoughtfully insightful and with enough grit. Telling stories exposing pr3djustice and challenging the status quo. All 3 rappers bring their A game. Its the balance between killing me softly and ready or not, such amazing craftsmanship. And the beats and bass are enough to drive down town with your windows open. Some of the songs still make the hairs on my neck stand up.
DJ Shadow
4/5
An all time classic, spent many a hour in my day listening to this.
Ice T
2/5
Always great for a soundbite but just misses. Not as articulate as public enemy, not as dangerous as nwa, not as stoned as snoop dog. An interesting time for hip hop and he's part of that story but just not a big hitter.
Billy Bragg
1/5
Ah man I should love Billy being a full on leftie and I'm sure what he's saying is great. However the music was just frankly horrible like someone punching you in the face with a wet fish. At first it doesn't hurt that much but by the end it's unbearable.
David Bowie
2/5
Probably not the most exciting album couple of cool tracks like Jean genie but overall an underwhelming experience.
The Kinks
3/5
The kinks when they started had a real visceral energy. By this point that's gone and what you have is a wry satirical whimsical album. At moments it's divine and you could not deny the power of Waterloo sunset. However its all lacks a bit of energy.
Black Sabbath
1/5
Got fed up really quick
Amy Winehouse
4/5
Quality songs, quality voice, the epitome of a tortured artist.
Throbbing Gristle
1/5
Err yeah, I've heard of them was quite excited to engage with their notorious avant garde sounds. I can't lie I really wanted to like this, in electronica they have this rep early pioneers and all. But it was a large bag of rat infested goats shit. Im sure they had cerebral laughs making it, I was just glad when it was over.
Bruce Springsteen
1/5
Bring back Throbing Gristle.
Neil Young & Crazy Horse
2/5
Was OK I know like he's a big deal but just the vibe I could not get excited about. Just wondered why he was trying to push over the tree.
Steely Dan
2/5
Mum ok suppose
Ananda Shankar
3/5
Enjoyable escape, blend of Western and Eastern music is it called fusion.
The Byrds
1/5
Absolute arse, can't tell if they're tacking the piss or not. If they are it's not funny, if they're not than this is a massive arse stain on the filthy sheet of music history.
Sonic Youth
4/5
Dirty sounds and vibes, but pure emotion.
Thundercat
2/5
Probably the best album cover on this list (is it a refence to Maggot Brain by funkadelic). Music was pleasant in parts but long and rambling, nothing to get your teeth stuck into. Suspect it will be good for sampling by hip hop dudes!
Public Enemy
5/5
Hi class hip hop from my man Terminator X, Chuck D and Flava Flay. The combination of crazy sounds slick beats and the unflinching lyrics make this an absolute classic.
U2
2/5
I always hated U2, primarily because my older sister and her chums loved them. That's what you're meant to as a teenager right? So I tried to listen with objective ears after all these years. However it's absolute cods arse, a collection of overproduced dirge, middle of the road arseness masquerading as something shiny and intersting. But is in fact broken and boring, pah.
Talking Heads
2/5
How much arse quantifies as Arse? Do you divide boring by not interested or times shit with bollox. To summarise man sings in uninteresting way whilst music is played boringly, the highlight was a cover which they made Arse which is a shame as I really like the original, which they have tarnished.
R.E.M.
2/5
Hey ho this happened, I remember it happening, the excitement and the profundness people expressed at the time. It was an album to have at the time of the time in the time. I was outa time cos I kinda found it a bit, well dull. So he blabbers on whilst violins and shit make it all sound profound. Its not shiny happy people is it or the one about the world ending! Gotta say its the musical equivalent of sand in yer shoes, annoying and you just wish you'd worn flip flops.
TV On The Radio
3/5
Yeah was.ok,.might listen again.
Janelle Monáe
4/5
This I really enjoyed cool upbeat modern soul with a bit of Android thrown in. Listened to it all day.
Ian Dury
4/5
This was a lot of fun and found myself enjoying it more than I thought.
Billy Bragg
2/5
I love Billy Bragg Iove his socialism, the way he creates new narratives away from the mainstream. His music suck though.
The Kinks
3/5
This was more 'Kitsh' than cool, I'm sure if I spent more time with it I would grow to love it. And although I enjoyed some of the lyrics found the music a little slow and floaty for My taste.
Belle & Sebastian
2/5
I didn't throw the speaker out the window, although was very close to dropping off.
2/5
Yeah again why is this album on this list, not that exciting or interesting, definitely nothing new when it was launched? They are one of those bands that are made for adverts they have like 30 seconds of intrest in a couple of songs but the rest is just dull.
Lenny Kravitz
2/5
Nice he did all the instruments, just a bit aor middle of the road.
Manic Street Preachers
3/5
Yes an intersting album
Cheap Trick
3/5
Was an enjoyable album of the genre about the genre for the genre. Sounded great live, a live album made sense.
Frank Sinatra
2/5
It's not like I hate it, it's just that I can't relate to it as a music. Can't get past the sound, the slowness the lyrics. It feels more visual and doesn't really speak to anything beyond having a swell time. I guess it works well in films.
Frank Black
3/5
Massive massive fan of the pixies surprised at myself for never listening to this. It doesn't quite hit the sweet spots of Surfer Rosa or troupe le monde, however enjoy his vocals and idiosyncratic lyrics. Might need to spend some time with it.
Derek & The Dominos
2/5
Bog standard white boy blurs rock.
Bob Dylan
3/5
Yeah Dylan, love Dylan. However on this all the passion, the insight somehow was missing. It was if the urgency and the reality with which he spoke had just evaporated. Let's be honest we don't do Dylan for his lovely singing voice, so what happened Dylan, we still needed you then we still need you now.
The Byrds
2/5
Yes was ok
The Avalanches
2/5
Poor, was dull then, still dull.
Slipknot
1/5
Why!!!!
Taylor Swift
3/5
An very good pop album, upbeat catchy lyrics were enjoyable. Took me by surprise.
2/5
Suppose this was the Taylor Swift of its day. Some of the lyrics cracked me up. It seemed to have a simple message neatly summarised in the album title. The music was all twangy guitar and blues grass bollox. Interestingly there's a line in there about the 'devil's haircut' doing something and that is the only reason it's not getting a 1.
Roxy Music
2/5
Was enjoyable but nothing to get excited about. Loses points for sexist cover.
Deep Purple
2/5
Did not like hombre, famous r8ff on one of the songs but the rest just sounded like mush.
SAULT
5/5
What a great album, great sounds, great lyrics great message. Loved it
My Bloody Valentine
3/5
OK sounded Jesus and marychain kinda vibes. Like the distressed guitar and exhausted vocals.
Moby
3/5
I'm very conflicted about this album for many reasons. before this Moby was just another producer who dropped some great tunes like Go, I knew his tunes but had less of a concept as him as an artist. this was true of most electronic artists, they were enigmas even the most recognisable like orbital and chemical brothers were obscured behind light shows and computer graphics. Moby to an extent did what the Gallaghers brothers did, he took a genre of experimental alternative music and made it Pop. With the impact of both bringing something beautiful to the world's attention whilst killing a part of it. Sure there had been electonica in the charts for years and Moby wasn't the first and only to do this. There should be a law for this phomenna in music the 'chilli pepper' law which dictates that the ratio of success to music impedes creativity. too much and your making advert fodder too little and you have to get a job. All that aside Moby combines elements of so many things that were going on the beats from trip hop, loops from hip hop. it's all interesting and accomplished and compelling. I loved this at the time but listening now I just think I'm being sold a Tesla!
The Police
1/5
I have nothing but hate for this band.
Arctic Monkeys
3/5
A couple of cracking songs but overall the album dragged a little. Cheeky fun lyrics but felt like a lot of filler.
Elvis Costello
2/5
Went on a bit!
Anita Baker
1/5
Unlistenable
Prince
3/5
Felt like a party in 1999
Foo Fighters
3/5
Liked the first track, are these guys the new order of the 90s. Hadn't made that connection before!
Nirvana
4/5
I haven't listened to this because of teenage prejudices. A really good stomp a heavy sound.
Big Black
3/5
Good wholesome fun
The Prodigy
5/5
Interesting to play this so close to the moby album as the prodigy certainly made dance music popular and brought the undergroundelement to the mainstream. What can I say this album came at a time when I needed it. I remeber marching against the cjd bill in Bristol with their law blasting away. no good to my mind is still to this day one of the finest if not the finest dance tune ever made. its stayed in my head for ever. All the songs had something Mobys didn't and that was attitude
Bobby Womack
3/5
A solid enjoyable listen plenty of funk and soul elements. Didn't take to the heights though.
Super Furry Animals
3/5
Never really listened at the time but some solid tunes and inters6sounds maybe I'll hang for a while.
Jimi Hendrix
5/5
Jimi is the man.
Kid Rock
1/5
I have no idea what he's on about but country/rap/rock is not a genre I feel I want to know more. Also his face on the cover looks like a mouldy prune with a wig of straw.
Talk Talk
2/5
Boring, don't get why this band is so rated.
Massive Attack
5/5
Quality sounds from the Bristol boys, doesn't quite have the rawness of blue lines or the menace of mezzanine. Still songs like karmacoma and spy glass make it a triumph
The Pogues
4/5
Highly enjoyable sounds of punk fused with folk. Shane's vocals always take you to that place you know the place, woo
Led Zeppelin
3/5
Yeah was good some heavy hitters like immigrant song. Heavy sounds and screaming vocals
Serge Gainsbourg
1/5
Disturbing concept for an album. But if you manage to ignore that (helps i dont speak french) then the music is, well its hard to describe, really there is one main piece that gets repeated. This peice is probably one of the most engaging I've ever heard. The simple bass line grooves almost as if on another planet whilst the string arrangements contrast with almost a narrative quality. Weirdly I know this as it was heavily sampled by David Holmes which I kinda prefer. The rest of the tunes are mulch shite which is weird contrstasted with the resplendent main theme. All in all a conflicted album but on balance its hard to score an album highly that's about a peado.
Siouxsie And The Banshees
3/5
Enjoyable post punk like the heavy use of the chorus pedal
Adele
1/5
I guess I'm not the target audience here and she performed the duties of pop that was required. The album is tye template for pop in 2010s, basically of warbling mega chroneing. The imagery, ideas and music are all absent slave to the sole perfect voice. The tyle of the TV pop star generation a bit of a backstory but nothing creative. It doesn't do it for me it's not exciting it's kinda the beige wallpaper of pop. Soz
The Smiths
5/5
As always amazing s9ngs by a massive walker.
Joy Division
5/5
Absolute quality, sombre, melancholic but with driving beats and intense guitars. This is music at it's finest.
Black Flag
5/5
Yeah yes shout shout. Great band great message great sound
Pearl Jam
3/5
The best thing about this was it came out when I was at school and I had a friend called Jeremy! Loads of process echo hadn't noticed before
The Incredible String Band
2/5
Absolutely bonkers, sounds a bit like when kids make up words to annoying songs they have to sing. But it is so gloriously ridiculous I'm glad it exists
Gorillaz
5/5
Amazing blend of indie sounds and hip hop beats. It sounded so fresh at the time.
Patti Smith
5/5
Great proto punk from the Patti meister. Can hear a bit of PJ in there as well as all sorts. Patti has a great way with words and being pissed off both things I enjoy.
Kate Bush
3/5
Warbly madness but the Queen of eccentricity. Yeah is alright makes me wanna put on shoulder pads and a headband.
Dr. John
2/5
Bit weird but loved the album cover.
Grateful Dead
1/5
Terrible
Rush
1/5
Bollox
Nas
3/5
Nice beats, heavy lyrics he wa huge at the time was OK.
Robbie Williams
2/5
Absolutely destroyed the indie sound at the 90s with his cod psycho babble. I hated this them I hate it now. Interestingly though the only thing I could engage with and that felt as if it meant something was a hidden track where he has a go at hos old teacher. Enjoyed that so saved it from a 1 still arse crumpets though.
4/5
Bat shit crazy but wonderful
Johnny Cash
3/5
Johnny's obsession with prison and criminals is weird and his music is just one big Ballad to um. Intersting to hear the interaction though.
Jerry Lee Lewis
3/5
Great balls of fire, feel like he was the slipknot of his day!!!
Q-Tip
3/5
I guess I only ever listened to the greatest hits so had a totally different impressions of the kinks. Feel ike they take an album to come up with a good tune.
The Kinks
3/5
I gave the kinks review so I guess I need to review q tip for this was OK scribbly bubbly lyrics over bouncy pop hop.
Dennis Wilson
1/5
Pants
Kanye West
4/5
Surprisingly good album, although he's bat shit crazy, his craft is unquestionable. Not sure what he's banging on about but his metre and wordcraft are pretty good. Also enjoyed the beeping bleeping tracks and crunchy electronic sounds.

The tune of the album was cool for nostalgic reasons, but a very poor album.
Leonard Cohen
2/5
Lyrically intereting although uses the word lover too much and his scanning was weird. His singing was like listening to gravel in a washing machine and the music was like just awful.

Laura Nyro
3/5

Neneh Cherry
3/5
Enoyable, think some of the lyrics were written from the massive attack geezer. Sounded dated in parts and the song about kids made her sound a bit like a pro lifer. But good honest to god hiphop.
Janet Jackson
1/5
Like old socks in space
Neil Young
2/5
Well started thinking this was annoying, why so rated. Then found myself being swept away on a westward wind. Over prairie down ravines, following buffalo as they meandered mindlessly. I sat in an old bar staring down a Texan as I downed my tequila. I awoke anew
Elliott Smith
3/5

2/5
First song a cracker.
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
5/5
Always been a big Nick Cave fan (mainly his lyrics). This was hardcore listening particuraly in light of its backstory. It stands up as a testament to grief, loss, love and making peace with trauma. Not something you'd want to listen to reguarly but an increadiblly powerful peice of art that like all great art takes you between darkness and light.

John Coltrane
3/5
Supreme
Meat Loaf
1/5
This album starts well enougth with Bat out of Hell a catchy rock opera type thang. I start to challenge my thinking, maybe I've been too harsh. After the 56th minute of the same song I started to lose the will to live, distracting myself by pouring a kettle of boiling water over my feet . Relived the second song starts, however the relief is short as you are then tortured with what can only be described as a form of audio waterboarding. There is nothing about this album that is good or enjoyable. Who is more to blame Jim or Meat what a pair of w****s
Beastie Boys
4/5
A quality effort with one of their best songs 'sabotage'. Doesnt hit the heady heights of Pauls boutique or check your head. At thi point they're out of ideas. Still a great tour de force of their loud energetoc in yer face style.

The Gun Club
2/5
On paper i should like this more. But its not paper!!!!!
The Doors
4/5
Are they meant to be explaining the L.A. woman, are they being the L.A woman? Or are we all meant to be the L.A woman by listening. Who is the L.A woman is she specific or generic and what about the L.A Man, L.A child, L.A Grandma, what about the goddamn L.A dog. Enjoyable music but too many unawsered questions.
Elastica
5/5
My favourite britpop album, cool riffs and quality irreverant lyrics, still very listenable and a couple of killer tracks
Scritti Politti
1/5
Possibly the worst thing I've ever heard. A form of torture, surely a crime against humanity. They should have called it 'things that were shit in the 80s, the soundtrack'.
Rush

Skunk Anansie
4/5
Enjoyable noise saw them when they were a support act, much better than the main act. Underatted for sure
David Gray
1/5
This was the beginning of modern pop, bollox meoldies, weary lyrics gentle sounds. It's like sitting on the toilet after a heavy night and too much curry it makes you cry and hurts in such a tender place and is just awful
Marvin Gaye
2/5
Not his best fairly standard
N.E.R.D
2/5

Madonna
3/5
Decent pop, i think all the production is William orbit whos good with the ravey ravey, felt like she was on the bandwaggon at the time!
Marvin Gaye
5/5
Sould music at its finest believe he recorded it in europe somewhere to get away from demons, maybe fighting demons is ehat they should call it. Still solid
Miles Davis
2/5
Not gonna lie hard, this kinda jazz i dont dislike and in the background makes me feel like im in a film where suddenly something absurd will happen like people start talking backwards. I quite like that idea and the vibe, but active listening is a challenge like climbing mount doom in yer pants and only a beanie for company!
Suede
2/5
Overated, didnt have tunes man
Happy Mondays
5/5
All the hits a great swooshy diy rave guitar bender. Could something like this happen again id like to think so.
John Lennon
3/5
2 absoulte bangers in jealous guy and imagine. The rest slightly pedestrian only slightly better than wings
Lauryn Hill
5/5
One of the best hip hop albums of all time, lyrically engaging rthymically mystical a message an idea it is also a complete album from beginning to end. Only mystery is why she never made another.
A Tribe Called Quest
3/5
Yeah wae good at the time and can you kick it is a classic rest seems a bit dated and tired.

The Offspring
3/5
Good coypl3 of tunes reminds me of being younger but overall pretty bland and the guys voicr is kinda annoying.
Gary Numan
2/5
Poor mans Kraftwerk, can hear his influnces in loads of music but has an annoying voice and face.
Red Hot Chili Peppers
2/5
Was better than i thought altough this is a band past their peak woth power of blood sugar all but gone. Still a few humourous numbers and the odd swagger of funk tinged la rock. But overall cant help but to compare and lament the loss of a band i love so much, to me this album altough ok is just a pale shadow.
Julian Cope
2/5
Long and dull.
CHIC
4/5
Quality disco, the groove abides
The Rolling Stones
4/5
Mate the opening track is possibly one of the all time greatest songs ever made, the haunting vocals and screaming broken backing transend the earthly realm and human experience. The drive and slight distortion make a sound and a song that builds into something sublime. The rest of the album is mediocre covers and it finishes with what sounds like an insurance add. I always think this band is overated and this album hints at what they could have made if they had some nerve.
David Bowie
2/5
Soz and all that but was a bit meh!
Frankie Goes To Hollywood
3/5
Good quality pop with all the obvious hits, suprised how many covers and how intresting they are.
The Who
2/5
Pretty average maybe expected more, maybe its on me I dont know? All I know is I always get excited by the who but they seldom deliver. Kinda reminds me of when I deliviered fridges for a white goods retailer back in the 90s. All the way down in Marsille with the crazy med temperatures and the warped knife crimes rampant of the time. Always exptant that the next drop would be easy that time would be made and early afternoon beers would be enjoyed. The reality was cobbled streets and standoffs between rival gangs and the gendarme! Still enougth time to maybe consider the train thats cancelled without bitterness, or maybe time for a beer?
Roxy Music
3/5
Weird, not neccasarily a bad thing, sometimes a great thing, sometimes not. Never really understood what Roxy were, or were about, still don't. It's Bryan Ferry isn't it? Kinda associate him with Ferry across the Mersey dont know if that's fair (or accurate). All I know is the mersey was larger than i anticipated, much wider than the Thames or the Siene. To say as wide as the solent, maybe taking things too far but it was big, ocean like. Made we wonder what made people think "I can cross that" before boats and shit?
Big Star
2/5
Listened, but it didn't register, who or why are Big Star? Should I listen, should I pray, pray for what, stardom? Peculiar act praying particurally when you ain't religious. Is it like holy wishing? When does a wish become a prayer is there a scale, an electrointention scale? Don't know!
Cocteau Twins
3/5
Yeah man lovely chorus pedals, synths and mega reverb on vocals. Its a great sound and reaches some heady heights. Altough any differnt ideas in there? I guesS they made a sound. Its a lovely sound but couldnt help but wonder what would it be like if they recorded it on a double decker bus on the morning commute to Machester. Sure a few elbows and probably a fair amount of Manc heckling. But surely a unique and evolving experience and ergo sound.
De La Soul
3/5
Good quality hip hop from the golden age always interesting to hear stuff before gangster rap took over. Goes on a bit though in places and the quiz show skit was a bit odd.
The Black Keys
3/5
Ok suppose.
George Michael
2/5
Got bored real easy I mean I guess it's Pop. Is this before or after he was Outed not sure? It could have saticral undercurrents of societal oppression. Or could be a relief from him finally being free but i didnt pick up on this and thought it was a bit meh. Weird how throughout history society decided that sexuality is a moral and a political issue, where does that come from? Its a bit like having a go at someone for preferring cheese and onion to salt and vingear, its just a prefrence surely? Still hats of to George im sure he had something worth saying, not on this album though.
Blood, Sweat & Tears
2/5
Yeah ok suppose recognise spinning wheel. Not the music to shater your bones but not unpleasant. Must I listen, hmmmmmmm not so sure hombre.
Marilyn Manson
2/5
He tried ill give him that, but really just not that intersting. Pound shop NIN!
3/5
Yes lots of great tunes, i remember a lot of this weirdly so must of been some kinda popular.
The Young Gods
3/5
Yeah weird angry rock in french, Jaime.
Britney Spears
1/5
You know I thought, I remember this song it was catchy, it was the turn of the millenium. Ill give it a go ill open my mind and ears and just listen. The substandard pop by number title hit was the highlight. Down a rabbithole of schrunchy sacrin terrible pop with a subtext that just seemed to be child explotation. I think this is the music industry at its worse and I feel sorry for her.
Wilco
1/5
So forgetable, i forgot about it! Stil makes you wonder how can a candle cost £60 plus, what are they putting in them? I guess the value of something is only what people are prepared to pay for it. Well I aint paying for it goddamn it!
Ghostface Killah

What I love about Ghostface killah or old Ghostie is his love of the small things. Ever the gent Ghosties lyrics deal with the minuatie of life with tender articulation and considered verse. For example his song 'coffee and crumpets' is about a conversation he had with his friend about undercooked crumpets and poor coffee. Being a great lyricist, he has actually used a metaphor, what he's really telling us about is mental health and the difficulty for men to express their feelings in an environment of extreme preducice and brutality where toxic masculinity is their only defence. There are also some playful and creative songs like 'fly unicorn fly'. Which atempts to describe what a unicorn might see and feel as it flys over a rainbow! Good stuff.
Billy Joel

Blimey it's the demo button from the casio keyboard from my 80s youth "Just the way you are", never knew it had lyrics just used to press that magic yellow button and it would play the music, changing sounds every 5 seconds or so just to make it that much more annoying. This was cutting edge stuff and at the time we were able to convince relatives we were playing, (maybe they were being nice). After intial hilarity and the intrigue of trying all the 99 different voices the keyboard was just used to annoy other family members. Never learnt to play much to my regret, still had a laugh.
Elton John

Elton John, im sure hes a nice guy but his music sucks!

Looking back I never really enjoyed confontration and always tried to avoid it. But ive always had this little voice in my head which is intransigent and demands that truth be told, unfortunatly it is a small voice.
The Zutons
4/5
I was aware of Zutons but never listened to Zutons, was a highly enjoyable album. Would listen again not sure what they were on about but will enjoy finding out (hopefully).
Leonard Cohen
4/5
This guy is not about the music but the lyrics. His lyrics are amazing the cynical humour on everybody knows a prime example. Every now and then the tunes are ok which make it great. I would happily read a book of his lyrics but probs not listen much. Out of interest Terry Hall did a great cover of everybody knows.
Mike Ladd
5/5
I had no idea who this was or what this was about. But i reallly enjoyed. Thoughtful quality rapping crazy noise up down in yiur face and moments of abandon and delicate beauty. Reminds me of Ninja tunes type stuff. Im in brother.

Couldnt listen on spotify found on you tube and fell off my chair... 30 minutes later when i came round youtube was playing a video about replacing a broken motor on a washing machine. Why? My washing machine was fine, washing better than ever, in that moment there with the warm dribble working its way down my chin i realised i was still on the floor. Moments later upright, alert I made my self a nice cup of tea and relaxed.
Madness

Teenage Fanclub
1/5
Im so glad I didn't spend 9 quid in the nineties to buy their shitty cassette and instead bought a sheep on drugs vinyl! Absoulute indie arse, nothing interesting at all.

Didn't really register wasn't my cup of tea. I keep telling my 15 year son that he needs to start drinking tea but why, he doesn't have to, why don't I leave him alone. I guess I feel he maybe missing out and want him to experience the greatness that is Tea, but maybe I'll cut him some slack.
The Cult
3/5
Didnt have the one song i know but still enjoyable rock and big hats
Coldplay
1/5
I felt a sense of dread whwn i saw this pop up on the list. I had to ask myself some hard questions. Was my predjustice correct, surely their is some musical merit some insight, somerhing that engages. And then it hit me, it's music without soul, sure it all fits and works as music should, but i want music to take me somewhere, to provoke some reaction. This album takes me to asda and leaves me feeling empty and slightly annoyed.
Morrissey
3/5
Its not the Smiths though. Can start to see the cracks, this is the beginning of Mozza on his journey from irony to bigotry he resides in a plane of his own making.
Fairport Convention
4/5
Yeah man loved it, wanted to put on morris gear and go round haystacks.
Ice Cube
3/5
Good album from ol icey, thoughtful lyrics and good beats. Does postmark his eventual decline though.
Radiohead
5/5
At the time britpop was climbing up its own arse, the underground dance scene was being made into commercials and being approriated by all, Music we thought was dead. Then there was this, the most interesting and engaging album of the 90s a proper send off for the 20th century whatever the fuck that meant. I remeber first hearing this at a bus stop in the bristol suburbs. Listening to the tape in my walkman. It was like a mirror to another universe. And as an album it all works no duff tunes it builds, all the songs seem to take you on this strange journey. This album wins the whole book.
Joni Mitchell
3/5

Peter Gabriel
2/5

Deee-Lite
4/5
Some really cool groovy tunes, sone awesome baselines with breezy 60s kitsh style lyrics. Altough a lot of stinkers as well, on the whole an inconsitant album. But cos it's got the almighty Groove is in the Heart it gets a 4.
The Libertines
3/5
Some really good songs here that attempt to peer into the swirling mess of the human soul. Mainly though its a little lacklustre probably better as an EP
Genesis
1/5
Oh my god, thought Genesis was bad with Phil, did not enjoy this

Someone went mental with a synth. Before they realised that actually they're best used to make dance music people thoight electronic music was better at making kinda modern classical. The french particuarlly with their bagutte enfused dreamscapes. Mixing strong coffee, manic stares and ambience wasnt what we after guv.
k.d. lang
2/5
Constant gravy is a good quality song and there no doubting her pipe work. However this album is mainly dull muzak.
Creedence Clearwater Revival

Joan Armatrading
3/5
Intersting and fine
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
3/5
It was ok, not too soggy.
The Specials
5/5
What an album, what a band. Busting from the mean uk streets of late 70s early 80s. It paints the picture of Maggies dystopia and the cultural crossover and battleground of the cities and uk culture. Course Terry Hall is a lyrical boss you can find stuff here later used in the likes of Massive Attack and Blur. The attitude of punk combined with sounds from the carribean and topped with a satricial lyrisism. A winner.
The Jesus And Mary Chain
3/5
Not quite Pycho Candy!
Mike Oldfield
2/5
Like a score to a weird art film thats really annoying and pointless. Even the bit where he shouts the name of the instruments is terrible and managed to make them sound meh. Enjoyed the sailors horpipe though especially the viv standshaw version.

Lupe Fiasco
3/5
Enjoyed, easy going hip hop groovy rythem and sharp verse.
Norah Jones
1/5
No way missus, im married. Obviously a great voice and probably a good lyricist. However the music made me cry tears of pain, it was like soul without the rythm, it was like Jazz without the insight. Terrible drudging music without pressnce or urgency like being stuck in a traffic jam with the cast of stsr trek the next generation.
Eminem
5/5
Wow 23 years old. Weirdly i still know a lot of the lyrics to these songs, don't know if that's a good thing but really enjoyed it at the time and it still sounded great. This album is all about the lyrics and their delivery, the music is ok. How to descibe, Mysgonstic, homphobic, and just damn right nasty. But also funny, stupid, idosyncratic, self effacing, ironic and at times thoughtful. The genius of the guy is exposure, we are witness to an unfiltered stream of concious sometimes cartoony sometimes sublime. But it's his wordplay that makes this great, the absurd viceral worlds that he creates and takes us to, with twists on meaning and syntax are genuinaly incredible. Because he uses hiself as the subject it makes it feel as though it's morally problematic and it is. But that's the point it's not an album that says im great, but one that says I'm fucked but the world is too.
King Crimson
3/5
Really enjoyed the first song and the rest was awesome to listen on a train with an overloaded brain to relax.
Elton John

3/5
Was ok, better than id expected not just cheesy covers.
Björk
4/5
Bjork is someone i never got round to listening to, so was glad when it popped up. Intersting pop some of her lyrics and singing is quite dark but sung with such jollyness. It's her vocals though, she has a great voice and creates great imagery. The music is a bit bonkers but nothing wrong with that.
Portishead
5/5
This album changed everything for me, it let me undertstand that there was more to music than gutairs and sent me down the helter skelter of rave culture and electronic music. Ill never forget hearing it on the radio and thinking what the hell is this, never heard anything like it. It's aged well and sounds current, the whispery parnoid vocals and dystopic sounds make it so atmospheric.
Animal Collective
3/5
Not saying this wasnt enjoyable it was but could have been from any genre at any time, but in a strange good way.
Mudhoney

3/5
Intersting, never realised that that Fall song was a cover! Usual eccentric album I enjoyed this one more than the garden party larky. Got lost a few times but a bit of energy here and there. Think the Kinks are best when they have a bit of energy. Is that Terry Gillingham artwork I see?
Björk

The Magnetic Fields

Just because you can, doesn't mean you should. They probably would have been better making 10 good songs rather than 69 meh songs. They have created a talking point but thats it.
Led Zeppelin
4/5
Quality old skool rock with a couple of classics good pipes and good strings.
Leonard Cohen
4/5
Master lyrisist and great poet, music sounds like a frog who has just found himself in the middle of a large city and cant find his way back to the fields. But find beauty in a park pond and the wildness of the people.

Public Image Ltd.
4/5
These guys do that freestyle Jazz thang where they fuck around and occasionaly make a 2 second moment of genius. You have to sit through a 9 hour song. Is it worth it yes, have a huge soft spot for John Lydon, nothing rational just glad its there.
Marianne Faithfull
3/5
Fairly boring, but the last song was enjoyable for its swearing and its crassness!
Justin Timberlake
1/5
If all the 90s American boy bands were to have a baby with a 50 year old Micheal Jackson, it would not only defy reality, it would spawn something akin to this. A sound that kills the soul and drags you into a very specific hell, an endless, waiting, souless, meaningless Hell.
Brian Eno
2/5
How many Brian Eno albums do we have to listen to. Seems like every month it's another one. Get it, he was influential throughout the ages, but then so was influenza! What to take away from this album. Too many buttons, too many ideas no coherant thought, down the rabbit hole of his mind, again for the millionth time. Not that interesting but what I am interested in, is did he manage to pay his mortgage with this fluff or did he have wealthy parents? In other words I know no-one ever, who has bought a Brian Eno Album!
Dexys Midnight Runners
2/5
Couldnt get too excited by this some òk pop but nothing special.

Arse music, sur ethey gotta couple of hits but they aint a serious band and this was just arse.
Pulp
5/5
Great album all the song are really strong, groovy and funny. It's a story book of love, frustration and parties from the master story teller of the brit pop era. Its also a slice of 90s working class life its dreams, fears and asspirations. The likes of which mr Alburn or the Gallagher brothers were never able to articulate.
Def Leppard
1/5
Theme tune for the first wave of Mullets should be called 'absolute arse'
Soft Cell

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
5/5
A great album taking us to the darkest reaches of the human soul. The groovy pared back sounds help create a soundscape to Nick's hourmous and disturbing visions. Not an album to play at your local disco but to savour in those fever induced moments when the world seems bleak.
Afrika Bambaataa

Enjoyed this way more than i thought I would. In fairness I didn't really know who Mecury Rev were, I thought they were something, but it seems they were something else. I did recognise the highway one though. Yeah nice mix of electric sounds and rock type tendancies.
Simon & Garfunkel
4/5
Im not sure if I like or dislike this album, but all I can say that it has a strong emotional impact. The first 3 songs bring back such strong visual memories like a wave. Summer camp as a kid, dad's car, travelling in Peru (it's like the only song known on the panpipes), my Aunts funeral (Cecila). It's kinda weird I've never sought any of this out but its appeared at moments in my live almost by accident. Is it good, I dont know but it gets a reaction and that's something.
Queens of the Stone Age
3/5
Long outros and instumentals that are mental. Kinda sounds like 70s rock made crazy.

2/5
Boring
JAY Z
3/5
Could never get that excited for this guy, his style is a little dull.
George Jones
1/5
Fucking terrible
Pentangle
2/5
Basket of pentarse
Public Enemy
5/5
The high water mark of hip hop (or even 20th century music) before it went Gangsta. Political creative, inventive, challenging all the goodness marked by the genius of Chuck D who held a lighting rod against the American white hedgemoney. Few managed to do this, create truly orginal music with real time politics and make it commercial. There's a handful and they are up there with the best.
Cocteau Twins
2/5
Bored, again with the chorus pedal and whispery pixie singing?
Blue Cheer
1/5
Bloody awful blues rock. Singer wasn't great and the sound was muddy, I'm putting it down to poor production. There are a lot better albums of this genre (I believe we have listened to them all on this list) didn' t need it.
Megadeth
1/5
Mega-arse
Stereo MC's
3/5
Hasn't aged well, but enjoyed at the time.
Goldfrapp
2/5
Was ok heard better by them, little bit like background music no reason to be on this list!!
Sonic Youth
3/5
Not as good as that other one!!!
Dire Straits
1/5
Dire shite
Oasis
3/5
At this point, i didn't hate Oasis and thought they had a few good numbers even came close to buying an album. Shortly after they morphed into a cliche and everyone stopped taking drugs and subscribing to one love. I balme them personally for the downfall of youth culture and the retrograde step back into casual violence and misogyny. Mutter mutter grumble grumble
Queen
2/5
Its queen, you cant escape them. Like all their albums a few athemic hits andbthen blah de blah blah. I really liked them when i was 10!
The Beta Band
3/5
Oh yeah this was groovy.
James Taylor
1/5
Even managed to fuck up oh Susanna, what a Twat.
The Dandy Warhols
3/5
Never listened to it before (obviously knew the hitters) a deep dark psychedlilla pop not dismillar to the doors. Intersting lyrics and sence of counter. However half way through just sounded like it self and kinda ran out of steam.
Ella Fitzgerald
3/5
Yeah old shiz
Dolly Parton
1/5
No words
Stephen Stills
3/5
I was halfway through this and suddenly thought, this is Blues rock, this guy is stills. He must be one third of Jeffery, Stills and Mash! Hard to move beyond such a revelation!
Manu Chao
4/5
Great fun nice rythms and cheeky songs. King of the bongo is a banger
Peter Gabriel
1/5
Kinda background noise didnt even register.
Tom Waits
3/5
Chit chat jazz with ol gravely.
Beck
4/5
Niceness from beckness
MGMT
3/5
Enjoyable elctro pop with a hint of chart ready weirdness.
System Of A Down
3/5
Like a mix of sabbath, metallica and talking heads. Was enjoyable.
Kings of Leon
2/5
This sex is on fiiiiiiiirreeeeee bored as atumbke driieeerr
Dagmar Krause
2/5
Like Mickey Mouse starting smoking Crack whilst visting Europe in 1944!
Supergrass
5/5
Hadnt appreciated this album at the time as had my head stuck in a synthesier. But it's really good, humourous lyrics, driving sounds think its much better than a lot of that brit pop guff.
The Streets
2/5
Poor loved the first album, however this was mushy and musically dull.
Drive Like Jehu
4/5
Noise noise wonderful noise
Fun Lovin' Criminals
3/5
Good fun opening track and obvious Scooby, the rest of the albums wanders off down the Newyork alleyways getting lost having dougnuts and just slowly turning into modern day background music.
The Stooges
4/5
Had fun being the dog. Great proto punk album lots of energy lots of fun. Altough felt like they ran out of steam at certain points. All in a great time was had.
The Dictators
2/5
Like listening to a terrible band
Stereolab
2/5
Yes yes yes, no no no, i think this is nice then i think about dishwater.
Carpenters
2/5
Sacrine sweet singing, slow advert ready beats with string overkill. It sounds frankly horrible, however under all that you do get some intersting things happen musically, we need covers of these songs!!
Bruce Springsteen
1/5
Born in the back of a van. I tried to find something to like, but its just shite!
Pretenders
3/5
Was ok, kinda punky poppy vibes was enjoyable
Dr. Octagon
3/5
Like the proffesor Hexagon or indeed general Pentagon, Dr Octogon was very middleagon for 90s hip hop. Loved the cover though
Pere Ubu
4/5
Noise noise wonderful noise brings me tears brings me joys.
Paul McCartney
2/5
Classic Paul
Everything But The Girl
3/5
Very nice to have a coffee and bagel to.
John Lee Hooker
3/5
Love John Lee, but this felt overproduced and by virtue lost it's edge. Weird with music but smoothing out all the bumps and cleaning doesnt make it better. Not up to the raw screaming and screetching we normally get.
Supergrass
4/5
I probably enjoyed this more than their others for reasons i cant explain.
Sebadoh
1/5
Scraping the bottom of the bubble barrel. Lazy and shite.
The Verve
4/5
When i saw this I groaned, but it was quite enjoyable if a bit long.
Mylo
4/5
Lovely lovely edm
TLC
3/5
Crazy sexy boring, well overproduced hip pop, i liked the groove on waterfalls however it which followed that weird 90s morality forumla, 3 stories making some weird ass point or bad anaolgy. On the whole poor.
Lightning Bolt
4/5
Like somone took all your random obscure and tansient thoughts and turned them into songs. Flipping great noises
Sparks
2/5
Yeah like that first one is a cool slightly offbeat song, goes downhill quick and hard!
Stan Getz
3/5
Stuck in a lift. But it's a lovely one with leopoard print velvty walls, everyones looking fly in brightly coloured flares and electric yellow shirts. There's a gentle sway and all is grovvy on the way to, well who cares!
The Icarus Line
2/5
What can you say about this album, meh
The xx
2/5
Yeah man they tried but they put enougth gas in the tank. Also their outfits sucked.
The Residents
2/5
Like being bullied by someone a little unhinged.
Jurassic 5
5/5
I want to not like this as much I do, as they are the clean hipster friendly non problamtic hip hop. But this is just an awesome album the ryhmes are tireless invetive and funky. The beats hit every time and hard. Theres not a lot not to love on this album.
Frank Ocean
1/5
Frank Orange arse
Björk
5/5
Passed me by at the time but a great album lots of weird sounds and great ideas. And of course her voice which is fantastic.
Green Day
2/5
Same issues I have with all their albums, one (maybe 2) engaging or interesting tracks, then a lot of filler. This is a band who dont know what they are, feels like a pop band trying to be a punk band, the tracks are too polished and satire is not the same as subversion. Fails more than it hits. Grumble grumble
Brian Eno
2/5
Well it was as described. Too many Eno albums on this list stop Eno, he aint all that.
The Mars Volta
2/5
Poor
The Rolling Stones
2/5
Ohh those old stones, swear they got like 2 good songs, neither on this album.
The Smashing Pumpkins
3/5
Today is a great song and holds memories of being 16 and that epic summer. The rest is ok, kinda standard grungeyness lots of strings and the raspyness of billy who plays the evil milky bar kid.
Portishead
3/5
Not their best album couple of tracks, maybe had run their course by this point. Interestingly can hear some Beak in this!!!
Spiritualized
4/5
Great album with the soaring 'come together' a moody rollecoaster of angst and indiffernce. Loved it.
Napalm Death
2/5
Im glad this exists, this should exist dammit, the purity and relentlessness is a statment to absurd fast paced nihilism. Did i enjoy it....errr
Fishbone
3/5
I remember this bank funk rock kinda in the chilli, faith no more kinda vibe era. Yeah was ok. An interesting nite in musical history.
Sonic Youth
3/5
Nice noises, soothing angst, probably went on longer than it needed to and have heard better albums by these guys. Maybe not enougth sneer.
Radiohead
5/5
Not enougth stars for this album, after the soaring heights of Ok Computer there was a question and this was the answer. It did things that we didnt know a band could do. The mix of croaking electronica and broken guitars distorts and slips through an almost stream of conciousness. The middle part of Radioheads holy trinty it makes music something new and wonderful.
The United States Of America
3/5
More jeffersons, kite than aeroplane! It's not that windy, and theirs a hole in the fabric. Interesting moments here and there but overall a noise that didnt move.
Drive-By Truckers
3/5
Interesting song seened mainly around the theme of being working class in Alabama but not being a bigot. Some fun lyrics about sniffing glue and the music was so so country rock. The thing that got on the wick is that Lynard skinner was mentioned in pretty much everysong. Still more enjoyable than i was expecting.
The Beau Brummels
2/5
Beau bollocks
Doves
3/5
Nice pleasant.
The Clash
5/5
One of my all time fav albums, lively energetic and in yer face. All the tunes are classics on this and of of course the best year of all time.
Run-D.M.C.
4/5
Quality rhyming
Orbital
5/5
Brings back a lot if mems, a classic when all this electronica was young and experimental. A great set of songs quite low key but pushing all the right butons.
Jethro Tull
2/5
Guess this is the birth of heavy metal can hear a lot of black sabbath in here and led zepplin. But personally leaves me a bit cold naff allogrys and whiney sounds.
Bob Dylan
5/5
The genius of bob is in his lyrics and song writing, pure simple but gets across the point without flinching.
Grizzly Bear
2/5
Not offencive, not inspiring, not there
Ray Price
2/5
Cowboy shit, altough he seemed kinda nuts
Electric Light Orchestra
2/5
E L what
Daft Punk
3/5
Kinda have a love hate with daft punk, quite often they miss and it becomes a kinda mulchy pop electronica. But when they hit they hit hard. This album has all that in it.
Jefferson Airplane
3/5
One of my all time favourite songs white rabbit. A soaring peice of psycadellia , however he rest of the album is a bit wishy washy the only really good track being 'someone to love', made me conclude the lady should have sang on all the tracks.
Scissor Sisters
3/5
Fairly energetic disco pop, can't hate but doesn't quite hit tge spot.
Ray Charles
3/5
Enjoyable but the type of music that doesnt move me much if you know what i mean.
The Only Ones
2/5
No, no their not!

Todd Rundgren
1/5
Well that happened!
The Smashing Pumpkins
2/5
This seems the point when the band went from kinda interesting to a bit boring. Egg headed ghost like annoyance, too much production.
Alexander 'Skip' Spence
2/5
Oar arse
TV On The Radio
2/5
Kinda happened, made no impression.
The Jam
3/5
Jma what.
Wild Beasts
2/5
Landfill Indie i believe is the term!
ABBA
2/5
I mean it's Abba and i know they bring a lot of joy to a lot of people, but I'm not one of them! Still hard to be to harsh on this well producced catchy pop that has lots of harmonies and infectious hooks. This is for all those that lose their shit to me what is shit.
M.I.A.
3/5
Every rhyming couplet ends with Ahhh. Seruously though like this artist she has however done better albums.
Kendrick Lamar
3/5
Mumble rap takes centre stage and with that obtuse moralising.

Erykah Badu
3/5

Shivkumar Sharma
2/5

Alice Cooper
4/5
Schools out is a great song the rest is kinda meh.
Pere Ubu
4/5
Yeah man shout it out
Fatboy Slim
2/5
This was everywhere at the time got a too much radio play. To me at the time it was the gentrification of the dance scene, pop ready songs that Zoe ball amd all those radio 1 wankers could bang on about, safe rave. Still many years later the album is on the whole mainly disapointimg and much bettrr edm out there, there are some good tunes like right here right now. But if i hear praise you one more time ill be a little sick.
2/5
Audio quality wasnt all that so couldsnt really tell
The Associates
2/5
Like a cheery crappy echo, well more crap
Ramblin' Jack Elliott
2/5
This guy took his name from the mighty 'Lee Ramblin Kelleher' lead bassist and visionary behind 'Kelleher's Field Men' whose semenial album 'Field Shack Shuffle' shook the music scene and catuplted them into the hearts and minds of all Americans. His Bass lines being so beutiful it has been known to make mountains cry.
The Chemical Brothers
5/5
What an antidote to that fat boy arse nonsence. Thisis an example of quality 90s eleconic music. An awesome album fron an awesome band at an awesome time. I remeber glasto 98 stuck in mud up to me knees dancing to this. Ooh they were the days me lad, when you could leave your back door open, everyone knew and despised their local bobby and drum and bass was still called jungle.
The Cure
5/5
Yrs more like it quality noise from the orginal goth fathers. A forest stands the test of time and is still a banger!

Nanci Griffith
1/5

5/5
This album takes electronica to the next level, which is level 47. Seriously though the sounds and ideas created are un matched, even they were unable to create anytging like this again. So what makes it good? Simple groovy funky French. Je ne sai pas.
Le Tigre
3/5
Tiger but in french! Grrr
Bert Jansch

King Crimson
2/5
Kings big red bollox
Snoop Dogg
5/5
Personally this album brings back a lot of memories, and is partially responsible for failing gcse science. When we should have been learning about atoms everybody was writing down and reciting these lyrics. I can still see the teacher teaching to his best ability with my mate whispering these lyrics. At the time it was omnipresent (at least in my sphere) and seemed to be one of those all encomposing teenage cultral movements that lasted all of 5 minutes. At the time I was to preoccupied to pay much attention. On a fresh listen, love the funky samples and beats and snoops flow is engaging and entertaining, it is brash and a little mysogenstic in a benny hill way but there us humour and pathos here.
Goldfrapp
4/5
Eerie magical, its a great album that takes electronica to somewhere more earthy. Also was heavily played in monkey dust so reminds me of that.
The Good, The Bad & The Queen
4/5
Standard enjoyable fare from Mr Alburn, nothing that exciting. Was expecting more when this was released as had the mighty Paul Simmons but hey ho.

Queen Latifah
4/5

The Pharcyde

Ray Charles
3/5
The guys a genius for sure, trouble with music in this age is its slightly overproduced and too much orchestra (bit like now lols but with different sounds) think it could've been a bit rougther.
Don McLean

Led Zeppelin
3/5
Ok ok like i dig but you know didnt set my hair on fire. They had that like one song from Godzillas armpits
N.W.A.
5/5
The album that changed hip hop. Its great the energy and the anger is comparable to early punk. It's also interesting as it contains elements of earlier 808 driven funky hip hop. The lyrics are angry and challenging, shouting at the world about the frustations of a very racist LA and America. The genre would end up being very boring and repetative, but this was the one.
The Divine Comedy
2/5
Like his voice and the odd song but found this quite dull and a chore
Dusty Springfield
4/5
Quality tunes great vocals vwry nice with a coffee and a sunrise.
Maxwell
3/5
Enjoyable cool summery vibes.
Nick Drake
3/5
So, Nick why do you want the job? "A difficult conversation, a broken lampshade and feelings that should never surface" Nick really, what can you bring? "Impressive melancholy guitair playing and a conversation with myself".

Sinead O'Connor
3/5
Sineads classic is a classic the rest is alright maybe in a cafe smoking lucky strikes and drinking cheap shit coffee. Wondering where it all went wrong. She was a ledge
Sex Pistols
5/5
What an album so what if the lead singer sold out and is now a massive twat. This album has it all from the deranged bodies to the ultimate holiday in the sun. Social comentary of a cycnical 17 year old full of spite and contempt layered against the sonic simplicity of single chords played loud. Should be a 6.
PJ Harvey
4/5

Cream
2/5
Was good blues rocl shame about Clapton
Metallica
1/5
Who the fuck thought that was a good idea!
Radiohead
2/5
This is the album where they almost lost it. Bit dull meandering , fake plastic trees and street spirit in my opinion were always massively overated. It was only 'Just' as a song that kept it interesting. Tbh was about to write the band off at the time but what came next was well.
Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark
3/5
Yeah was groovy
Aerosmith
2/5

Simply Red
1/5
Meanwhile whilst waiting to be processed in the lobby of Hell, the following lift music comes on.
The Beach Boys
4/5
Rip Brian. Its a weird album from the concept to the songs. I find it odd that they were such a big pop hit with their faceleto harmonies and their kinda spaced out sound. This had some classics on there.
Primal Scream
5/5
The fusion of dance and indie was striking at the time (dont think it was the first?) But what this album dors is uses both those forces to create something new. But has some absoulte crackers for me this was the album of the 90s
Tom Waits
3/5
Weird and wailing an album that answered to no-one. What wa sit all about. We'll never know.

Terrible
Bebel Gilberto
3/5

50 Cent
2/5
I died trying. Its got some beats but entirelly lacks on the lyrics front devoid of humour, satire or irony. I believe he was a proper G and ultinatly the genre had to end up here but it's dull at best frightening at worst.

5/5
Every once in a while an album come along that take you by suprise and snogs you behind the bikeshed. I loved this at the time and still do. It's funny weird differnt but funky and engaging. They never managed to pull it off again for some reason.
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds

Dylan but live
Stevie Wonder
5/5
Absolute perfection, this is Stevie at his most powerful, political, soulful, funky, fun, experimental. This album influnces everything from the Peppers to Dre to Coolio to name but a tiny few. This album shows us the resplendance of the human soul in music. What a ledge what a hero, we are not worthy. 7 stars
The Saints
3/5

The Sensational Alex Harvey Band
1/5
Bit rapey. Funny that we consider the 90s rappers as mysoginsts when this is a bit of fun. Awful man awful lyrics awful music.
Jimi Hendrix
5/5
To me this is blues rock at its peak no one took it to a further, better place. The guy creates banger after banger. Taking you into a psychodelic journey of the mind and soul.
Nine Inch Nails
5/5
This album came at the right time for me as an adolescent starting to unpick a catholic upbringing someone screaming "god is dead" was kinda refreshing, much to my late mothers absolute horror. But besides all that this is a great album altough very miserable and a bit gross in parts 'I wanna fuck you like an animal' it is also considered, suprisingly delicate and ephemeral in parts. Trent manages to create an album of emotional and textural complexity the likes of which i don't think he ever managed again. The incredible hurt which obtained more exposure through Johnny cash is the epitemy of the album, an angry, wild song but considered and vunerable just like all of us.
Michael Jackson

Pet Shop Boys
2/5
Not their best electo pop
Calexico
4/5
Great company on the old twisted road.
Megadeth
1/5
Oh no not Megadeath I thought, but on closer inspection the album seemed to be about an Alien conspiracy. Phew thank fuck for that, if I gotta listen to Thrash/Hair metal at least it's about something relatable! But what i want to know is what that secret service zombie is gonna do with his glowing rock of enrichiched Uranium and also how did ET get so fucking buff?
AC/DC
3/5
Enjoyable if a bit rinse and repeat.
The Disposable Heroes Of Hiphoprisy
5/5
Quality hop hop with a view that challanged the global hedgemony. I used to love this back in the day. Televison has probably dated some, but could easily be replaced with social media. His wordplay is second to none as he takes swing after swing at social injustice and describing geo politics. What is interesting is at the time there was no
internet and you had to find this kind of thought in a chomsky or book that wasn't that well understood by myself. Yet there this was.
Morrissey
2/5
The problem with Morissey is he writes compelling lyrics even when he's an assehole. Trying to gauge where he is on this album in his journy to the state of absoutle and supreme asshole! The level of self obsession is alarming but little dog whistles at this point ,so maybe halfway there?
Terence Trent D'Arby
2/5
Pound shop prince.
Leftfield

Cowboy Junkies
2/5
Im not sure whispery slow shizzle is my rizzle.
Fleet Foxes
2/5
Wobbly voices and acoustic guitairs. Wasn't sure why this was folk music besides the fact he kept talking about fires. I'd say it was a folk asethetic driven indie pop, but that makes me sound like a twat. However did made me wonder what is contemporary folk, should we be singing songs about gimps, farmer shoot outs, bubble T and A level results?
Country Joe & The Fish
3/5
Bit fishy, cowboys on drugs.
Björk
4/5
Was like a vocalised freestyle jazz very experimental somtimes making brief glimmers of resplendance in a sea of madness. Gotta take your hat off. A great vocalist.

Heaven 17
2/5
Im surè these guys have done a song I like. I did not like this.
Alanis Morissette
2/5
I swear I never owned this album yet all the songs are famillar in my head. Bet she gets fed up of all the emails and postcards challenging her, on her use of Irony. It's a difficult word to pin down, how does any one know the intentions of 1 million fucking forks! I don't even know what one fork wants, what its true design and purpose is, apparently you're meant to hold it upside down to stab rather than scoop, no idea why. Fine for sprouts terrible for rice!
Fiona Apple
3/5
Thoight the first song was great and enjoywd the lyrical style got stuck on an ex loop. Apparently been around for ages not heard of her before.
Sepultura
2/5

The Allman Brothers Band
3/5
Very blues rock lots of solos.
David Ackles
1/5
It's like a really boring man who writes terrible musical songs, sniffed a cocktail of cocaine and glue. The strive to be earnst and profound is a little annoying, if there's humour in this musical flan I haven't heard it. If there's musical innovation or sonic experiment its not evident. Literallly the front art work depcits his wife putting him in a boat and telling him and his songs to fuck off down the river!
Echo And The Bunnymen
2/5
Saw this guy live and he sucked can't get over that.
Kate Bush
3/5
Niceness
Beth Orton
3/5
Kinda groovy kinda dull
Michael Jackson
4/5
What to say a contentious Pedo, but this album is great and was the soundtrack to the 80s and my childhood. Remeber my sister playing this when I was very small and the weird ass voice at the end of thriller scaring the hell out of me. Billie Jean also is one of the best songs ever written. It should have 5 stars but he gets one taken away for being a bit evil. (Should probably be more).
Carole King
2/5
Taperterrible.
Dizzee Rascal
4/5
Quite abbrasive and a bit grumpy still some good tunes like thr sparse brutal soundscapes he creates. He definitly cheered up after this album.
