Here Are the Sonics
The SonicswaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAoooooww!
waaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAoooooww!
Vote is for the album, not the guy. Not all original either, but I enjoyed it. Should probably give it fewer stars for the first two points...
Top tier
Ok. Don't like the voice or vocal effects
King Harvest
A little redemption at the tail end, but I mostly just wanted to turn it off
harpsichord, pan flute, kazoo *chef's kiss*
Enjoyed the first few songs, turned into noise at some point
Some decent songs in here. Some not so great...
Some good songs, otherwise a big, one dimensional snooze fest. Product of it's time I guess
Liked the first couple songs but lost interest as the album went on.
Very 80s, but enjoyed having it in the background
Maybe a strong 3, but not anything special for me
Another album that started off enjoyable. This one ended very annoying.
Solid 3. been on a bit of a jazz kick though
Killer debut album
generally meh
Only song I knew was the first one, which was enough to know I was going to dislike this album
Eh. was happy when it ended
Wasn't terrible, but I did not enjoy
white trash america fur sure. some classics, some songs that are tough to listen to, but goes places very few albums go. especially ones as popular/influential as this one.
Had a tough time grading this one. On one hand there was a lot of familiar style, on the other it was super weird. Some songs were alright. Weak 3 star
Not terrible, but I kept wanting to turn it off.
I was generous on giving this group a 3 on their last album.
another 80's album I just enjoyed having in the background
I only kinda wanted to turn it off the whole time
I enjoyed a few songs on this album. Listened back to back with Boy in Da Corner though
this thing bops. music I normally wouldn't listen to (and still probably won't) but a fun dive.
Interesting idea. Some wild lyrics.
Good thing they grew up
With the exception of a few songs, I've never really been able to get into David Bowie
tf did I just listen to?
Vote is for the album, not the guy. Not all original either, but I enjoyed it. Should probably give it fewer stars for the first two points...
"I have no problems not listening to The Temptations, which is weird..."
Interesting sounds. Paper planes ok. Did not like
If I ever find myself lost in space, floating, completely alone, I imagine this album will somehow be playing.
I mean, 2/4 of the best songs were stolen, but the other 2 were Zeppelin originals, and they all absolutely slap. I'm also pretty sure Bonham blew everyone's faces off with the intro to the first song alone
Haven't listened to Def Leppard in a while. Weak 4
I like Green Light and Liability, but this is my first time listening to the whole album. The other songs are fine, but overall I like this album more than most we've listened to.
Always meant to listen to a Sinatra album but never got around to it. Glad this thing made me do it, but, meh
I enjoyed this, though the most popular songs are a bit annoying. Too repetitive for 4 stars
the 80's, now
there was a commercial with Apolo Ohno speed skating to Intro that played non-stop during the 2010 winter olympics. strong 3 to weak 4 territory for me
Reminds me of Sonic Youth and Dinosaur Jr. but a little easier to listen to. Not sure why a genre with so much vocal fry exists, this album could be stronger. Weak 4
fine I guess.
nonsense nonsense harmonica
Started off a 2 but made its way up to strong 3/weak 4 territory. Thought Velvet Elvis was pretty funny.
This album cannot chug all night
Song interesting song writing on a few songs, not sure on the execution
3/4 of a drummer but still able to produce some pretty big songs
Maybe a weak 3, but there were some loony lyrics in this thing
If making an enjoyable album was an Olympic event, these people would not get a gold medal.
Less jarring than the first Bob Dylan album, but still... bluh.
I didn't really enjoy this album, but it is pretty wild for an album that came out in 66. Clearly an early start to punk rock and an important influence to music that came a decade later. Bonus star for that
Tough one to score. I enjoyed having it on in the background, but not a very memorable album. Strong 3/weak 4
2112 gets the album 5 stars. the second half has some good songs but isn't quite the same
I've always meant to listen to a Tom Waits album but always had trouble getting into it. Kind of difficult to listen to initially but I started to really enjoy it by the end.
After the first few songs I realized I'd heard this album before and that I'd rated it before we started the group. Since I really didn't want to listen to it again, I figure I should give it that initial rating again. The fact I didn't want to listen to it should probably bring the score down, but oh well
I liked the other PJ Harvey album but really didn't care for this one. I feel like this list is too short to have multiple albums from this artist...
I'm sure an important album for punk, but this debut album was clearly of a different caliber than London Calling which they put out only two years later.
Eh, not my favorite. I like Song 2 but only because it reminds me of going to hockey games growing up.
Not great, but fine in the background
Not bad. Got a little bored with it after the first few songs though.
Definitely an unpolished album. Seems like some guys that have some things figured out but can't quite put it all together yet.
Never been a huge Pixies fan. Still not
Had higher hopes for this album. Weak 3
Not what I was expecting from the title
Strong 3, weak 4 I suppose
A rough album for sure, but I like the style and the music it inspired. I think this album has had a notable influence on BW :)
I thought this was going to be a hidden gem starting off, but turned out to be nothing special for me. Still not bad
A good album, I just need to be in the right mood to enjoy it.
I should probably stop being a Beatles hater, but a strong 4 for me for now. Some classics but also some weirder stuff I wasn't as into.
I enjoyed some of this album, it was just way too long
Last two songs were stinkers but I really enjoyed the album otherwise. Maybe it's just being home and not at work that has me in a good mood
I've always felt a little "meh" about their hits, but I enjoyed this album overall
The Weight is a great song, rest of the album is forgettable.
This album is bad. BAD
the cover art made me want to dislike this album more than I did. does not seem like a person I want to hang out with
waaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAoooooww!
Rare album that I thought ended better than it started. Strong 3
Super simple music. Not really my thing either
Good album with some classics. I feel like I need to give it a few more listens to really appreciate it though
started off good, fell off after a while. went from a strong 4 to a pretty weak 4 overall.
this album kind of loses me in the middle. I've always really liked jigsaw falling into place, some other goodies as well
A couple good songs but I think this band could take any song and make it boring. Concerts must be a snooze fest
This is fine for what it is. Not a bad listen but likely not something I'll come back to.
I enjoyed this more than I thought I would based on the weird album name. Stronger side of 3
Enjoyable live album. I haven't really listened to much Frampton but I think I can confidently give this a 4
Dudes are obsessed with Lynyrd Skynyrd. I couldn't finish this one. The music was ok for the songs I listened to but I can't listen to this guy blat out another one.
this was fine. a couple enjoyable songs. weaker 3
Hard to give a 5 to an album I haven't listened to before, but I really liked this one. The wife liked it too.
A classic that I've never listened to since I haven't really been able to get into the Boss. Still not my favorite, but worth listening to. A weak 4 for me
I really like some Lou Reed stuff, this was just ok
Big songs on this one, Jon isn't my favorite but this is a decent album.
some cool riffs but not really enjoyable beyond that. the most popular song was interesting the first time I heard it, but just kind of annoying since.
Fine album with a couple major hits. Everyone has performed California Dreamin' in 5th grade music class.
So slow. So twangy. So boring. The two songs that weren't mega slow were kind of ok. I don't know if I'll every be able to give an album with steel guitar more than two stars though.
Weird album
Felt like I was missing something so tried to relisten, but still couldn't get into it.
Not a great album. Just fine. "Mother" was unpleasant. Not a Police fan really, but still fell short of expectations.
I remember a few cool sounds from this album, but barely remember it otherwise.
I kind of liked the singers voice, but the weird things she did with it at times made me uncomfortable listening. kind of ruined some of the music
Started out as a solid 3 and dropped off toward the end. Could easily dip into 2 star
Kind of enjoyable but started getting close to that squealy jazz
Was not a good sport on this one and did not finish. Not a huge fan of their hit on the album and couldn't listen to 15 more songs of this, even if they were short.
I like Fiona Apple's first two albums, particularly "When the Pawn...". I like her voice and some of the music on this album but the dog thing is kind of weird and the dolphin sounds at the end of the first track give me secondhand embarrassment.
The Strokes definitely took inspiration from the title track, or maybe from the same inspiration as the title track, who knows how far it goes. That was the coolest part of the album for me. A couple decent songs.
Listened to this album a bit ago and forgot to rate. I can't say I really remember anything about it.
Message in a bottle is a classic, the second half of Regatta bopped. Didn't especially care for the majority
Not my favorite Radiohead album.
Not enjoyable to me
kind of cool seeing the singer highlighted so much. rest of the music was pretty simple, repetitive beats. not my thing
Lazy song writing
Too slow. Too Bruce Springsteen.
The fork in the garbage disposal of albums
I was in middle school when this album came out and a bunch of people were going nuts over it. It's marginally better than fine.
A good album that I don't really want to listen to again
2hr and 17 min of torture. I made it through the two most listened to songs and skipped through a couple of hours. Maybe I could have powered through a normal album length, but I'm not going to listen to three albums worth of this noise.
I can see the appeal, but not for me
sounds like a band trying to make that late 90s early 00s sound and not doing anything impressive with it.
It took me a long time to get used to Janis Joplin's voice, but now I kind of like it. There are some good songs on this album, but also just a lot of yelling over repetitive music.
Some surprisingly ok stuff on here
As far as I'm concerned, Sonic Youth has only one good song and it isn't on this album.
This was a fun album with a different sound. I enjoyed it
The Rolling Stones in 2010?
Sounds like a song from the late 80s moving to the early 90s sound. Maybe they were at the leading edge of that transition? Is that what makes this album important? Very boring and generic otherwise
Weak 3. Kind of fun, kind of out there. Feels more like a vibe of the decade than a timeless, meaningful album.
I've always dismissed this album since I don't really care for another brick in the wall pt. 2 (or at least it is super overplayed) and people tend to poo-poo the album. The last song or two were quite stinky but otherwise very good. not my favorite pink floyd album, but still good enough for a weak 5.
Fine. First song is the epitome of roller rink songs. Weak 3
Had to work to get through this one.
Only enjoyed the last song. Just a boring album. The softest of 3s
I really liked two of the songs on this album. The rest was too sappy for me to really get into
Well, it's unique... I guess that can make it influential. I made it through half of the first song before I just skipped around through the rest, looking for anything redeeming about the album. Biggest standouts for what make this album bad: vocals and bass lines that are way too simple and way too repetitive. Impressive to think you're ready for the studio when your first song repeats ba da da da ba da doo doo for 10 minutes
Two good songs and a lot of boring.
Very pleasant listen. Not one bad track on this bad boy
Peak Green Day.
Some solid songs. Loses me towards the middle though.
I can almost rate this one a three, but the steel guitar kills any chance.
Didn't need to turn it off immediately, but definitely not great
It was... fine. Definitely didn't love it but there are some solid songs. Soft 3
Not a super rememberable album aside from the hits everyone has heard 1000 times, but I enjoyed it the way through.
Front half has some of Johnny Cash's best, the second half loses me
"I've chosen this album for my 1001 albums to listen to before you die list because the artist has 'Butthole' in their name. I think the word butthole is funny but their music is kind of terrible."
UFO Guitars. Not a huge Boston fan, I think it is because of the vocals. The dude consistently holds onto notes too long or something. But still a pretty powerful debut album
Sad man that made lonely boy music that I don't want to listen to.
Who hasn't heard "We are Family"? Very 70s, not my thing
Very meh
A bad album that I kind of liked
This one was a strong 3 for me. beat my expectations for the album but didn't blow me away
pretty meh but an ok enough listen.
some fun sounds, but incredibly repetitive. they also sound more or less the same to me
One good song. The rest were ok, seems like they mostly went for making as much noise as possible with wild guitar distortions rather than coherent songs. The most popular song is the one with a little bit of control
This album was seeming like a solid 4 but dipped toward the end. Still worth a soft 4
I was excited for this one, but pretty disappointed. It often felt like the instruments were playing at the same time and not together. This is an album I would have expected from the late 50s or early 60s, not the late 70s.
some fun beats, but the songs are super repetitive.
An ok album. certainly not one I need to come back to
Killer debut album. Has their top hits (minus one) and the other songs are good as well. one of my favorite albums
Some ok songs. A lot of noise. Weeaaak 3
some classics, some sleepers, some damn terrible songs
Second Muddy Waters album we've gotten and I was disappointed once again.
this is a good album
This was fun and different enough to be at least a little novel. Way more than just a bongo though, someone might be a little full of themselves
Ok album. #2 song is my least favorite, I find it annoying. 3.5 if I could do it
one good song in an album exploring how the first computers can make sounds. felt like a crappy early 80s horror movie soundtrack at times
ranged from an ok listen to "why am I listening to this". weakest of 3s
didn't love it. lyrically I'm sure it is very impactful, but not my style
I've always felt Wonderwall and Champagne Supernova were just fine, so never paid much attention to Oasis. first time giving one of their albums a full listen, not bad
I don't remember anything from this album
good album that doesn't sound like everything else coming out at the time. or really much else at all
It seems that the Rolling Stones have made it as far as they have by pumping out as much music as possible. Most of their albums have a couple hits and then are strewn with mediocrity. This album is no exception. Sympathy for the Devil is the standout, followed by Street Fighting Man. A band with a fantastic Greatest Hits album and a remaining catalogue of music I don't really care about.
A fine album but not one I feel the need to listen through again anytime soon. Never realized anyone other than Mercury performed lead vocals, so that was cool I guess
Never listened to this the whole way through but really enjoyed it. A big step forward from their first album released in the same year.
Not my thing. even so, more bearable than some of the albums on here. for that I'll give it a little bump.
Slow. Very bummer. Wasn't really able to get into this one. I do really like some of Radiohead's stuff, but as a whole this wasn't very impressing
Underwhelming. I haven't listened to much of A Tribe Called Quest, but I am familiar with some of their stuff and was expecting more. It seemed like a lot of sounds put together without much cohesion. Three stars because Can I Kick It? actually kicks it
Not too bad. Another very 80s album. Two songs that everyone knows
