Like finding a Rembrandt in your Grandmother’s garage
I could drink a litre of boxed wine and smoke a pack of cigarettes every day and it wouldn’t come close to ageing me like 40 minutes spent listening to Steely Dan
Is Dwight ok?
There’s Chinese water torture and then there’s Captain Beefheart…

A masterpiece. What a joy.
Gets better every time I listen to it. Near the pinnacle of a classic rock and roll album.
This is one album I did not need to hear before I died...
I wanted to love this album but I’m perhaps not English enough, or ironic enough, to fully appreciate it. What a lyricist Morrissey is though…
I have sudden urge to procreate.
What a debut!
Someone should create a list of 1001 albums you don’t need to hear before you die and put this on it.
This is the kind of pretentious selection that gives music critics a bad name.
Feels like a candidate for the best album of 1560.
A poor man’s Paul Simon.
I didn’t know whether I was listening to the new Pet Sounds or just sounds…
There’s Chinese water torture and then there’s Captain Beefheart…
I genuinely thought I hated Lenny Kravitz 🤔
I loved this so much it made me ashamed I haven’t listened to Dylan cover to cover.
The only thing that saved this album from one star was that it was over in 15 minutes…
Feels like this is the 1001 Iggy Pop albums you need to hear before you die…
It really felt like Marvin just phoned this one in. From the bedroom.
The sum is not greater than its individual parts, all of which suck.
Budge was ok. The rest was an affront to the concept of musicianship.
Gangsta rap? Sounds more like an audition tape for Boyz II Men.
Why?
Obnoxious, repetitive and irritating.
Outlandish in theory and in practice.
I so wanted to love this album because of Layla. Little did I know it would be the greatest Blues album I’ve ever heard.
This sailed perilously close to being a one star stinker.
Immensely disappointing.
The only original thing about this is that there’s not an original note in it.
Immensely forgettable.
The biggest and best surprise on this list thus far.
Gets an extra star for not being Trout Mask Replica
Four stars for the music, five stars for the album name.
One of Led Zeppelin's weaker albums and still better than 950 of the offerings here...
Like finding a Rembrandt in your Grandmother’s garage
This has no right to appear on any respectable music list
I need a full blown ACDC immersion to cleanse me of this pretentious intellectualism.
Who could have imagined a Steve McQueen-themed album would prove to be a dud?
The Greatest Album of All Time
The most original song is a cover...
Lord give me strength.
That was exhausting.
A poor man's Wham!
Perfect.
Appalling.
Five stars for musicianship, originality and lyricism, minus one star for being Canadian.
1086 albums into this project and I’m forced to search for a two hour drum and bass record that doesn’t exist on any major streaming platform and I can finally admit this exercise has broken me.
😮
It's not that I disliked it, it's just that I have no idea what the fuck it's doing on this list.
Steve Irwin would be turning in his grave that despite all the groundbreaking music that has come out of Australia it is only this and 75 Nick Cave albums that have made this list.
What the fuck are you doing to me Robert?
If REM were shit.
I could not stop thinking about James Blunt and for that I will never forgive him.
🦘👌
41 minutes of my life I will never get back.
Remarkable only in that every song seemed to be worse than the one that came before it.
Offensive on almost every conceivable level.
Modern Britpop Is Rubbish
This likely wasn’t in the top 1001 albums of 2021.
More traumatising than the pandemic itself.
This has no right to be on any respectable list. An extra star because Mystery City seems like a nice place to visit.
Is Dwight ok?
There will never be another Jerry Lee
I could drink a litre of boxed wine and smoke a pack of cigarettes every day and it wouldn’t come close to ageing me like 40 minutes spent listening to Steely Dan
A stain on humanity
Look, I hate the Eagles as much as the next bloke but this is a monster record.
That put me in seriously bad nick
Is this some sort of sick joke?
Needs more Neil Diamond.
Outrageous. The 80s seemed like a good time.
An extra point for the 27 wives...
Like with taking acid, the mindset in which you approach listening to Tom Waits has a significant impact on the outcome…
If this were a Broadway musical it would be closed on opening night.
If you only listen to one bongo album before you die, make sure it's this!
Would be a five star album without the vocals…
Panned by critics, sold miserably and did not influence the career or output of a single musician, yet here we are...
