This sounds like music for boomers who complain too much about how there is no decent modern music. This is full on Stones and Zeppelin worship without an ounce of originity. This is filled with lyrics that felt so dated and corny for the time. 1990 was a strange year for rock music. Grunge had yet to come along, hair metal was old hat and all the interesting developments in the underground metal scene weren't suited for mainstream tastes. It almost makes sense how a blues rock throwback act could be so successful at this time. While the playing is solid enough to not warrant a 1 rating, the band are seriously lacking in creativity and originality.

I love this album, it's got a great sound and it has a nostalgic place in my heart from having seen them play a show at my school. Twice as Hard opens the album up well, setting the right tone. And Hard to Handle is an absolute banger.

There were two surprises for me coming into this album: One, I had no idea that they were like a standard rock band. I only knew She Talks To Angels going into this, and so I had sort of imagined that they were a more ballady band, maybe a little bit more soft rock than traditional rock. And two, I had no idea they did Hard to Handle, I wasn't expecting to recognize more than one song here but I've definitely heard their version of it before. But yeah these guys rock, I really liked what they were doing here. It felt like a throwback to the 70s era of rock, but not in the annoying way that The Darkness was. It felt like taking the ethos and the style from then, and bringing it into the present day. It's not stuck in the past, it's just appreciative. It's kinda like the "Awaken, My Love!" of the rock world, if you needed a comparison. Favorites: Hard To Handle, She Talks To Angels, Stare It Cold

Pale imitation of better rock, and I’m not even that big a fan of this particular type. But lord was this the first iteration of this type of band that comes around every decade.

I was too cool for this album in 1990. But by the time Southern Harmony came out in 1992, my coolness factor dropped considerably. I loved SH&MC and I played a bit of catch up with this one. Shake Your Money Maker is easily just as good and She Talks to Angels is probably my favorite Black Crowes song.

Yes, this album had legs in the early 90s. It really worked at the time. But, it sounds tired now.

Fabulous - 4.4

Favorite songs: Twice as Hard, Jealous Again, Seeing Things, Hard to Handle, She Talks to Angels

The Black Crowes were a band I loved for a couple of years as a teen in the 1990s, and then just sort of forgot about. I can see why I moved on (maybe they were my gateway drug for listening to actual 70s rock) but this was a lot of fun to revisit.

Muy bueno

Rockstito de EUA, ligero, relax. De camino

Tons of hit songs, probably my favorite Southern Rock album. Grew up listening to the Black Crowes so there’s a nostalgia factor as well.

Biler filmen type rock Deilige soloer Det var rock Heftig album🤟🏾 Men følte ikke de kom med no nytt. Det gjorde at det mangla no, no særpreg. Hard to handle, stemning og så sykt biler låt.

Kjedelig... men bra alså

Now THIS is dad music!

Iconic voice and just a super solid album front to back. This came out at the right time and just blew up with a dirty southern rock feel. 4+

Listening to this, I can understand the "Rolling Stones Tribute Band" comments, but it diminish the fact that the BCs were trying to mix up classic Rhythm n Blues with some more modern sensibilities. It's an enjoyable album, and might get a few more spins.

Пара неплохих песен, а в остальном ничего выдающегося

Nothing worth revisiting

In the 90s, I found the Black Crowes to be pretentious. So fun to give them another try. And the album was ... OK. Highly derivative but OK.

This is up my alley but I can see why some people may not like it.

I mean, this was surprisingly excellent. I'm not sure I'd ever feel the need to pop it on out of nowhere, but if I walked in somewhere and it was playing I'd be pretty pleased. It's an easy 3.5 stars, and I know I may tend to overrate when I'm pleasantly surprised, but I think this deserves a 4. released in 1990 without even a hint of 80s hair band butt rock? yeah, 4 stars it is.

I love this album so much. It really encapsulates the best things about rock music. Every track is so full in the right place and sparse in the right place, and the recordings are just perfect in every way. The vocals are perfectly sung and just everything is amazing. I listened to the album all the way through three times and almost went for a fourth. This is one of my all-time favorite albums. Five stars, easily.

3/10 - I’ve heard a lot of these songs on the radio independent of this album so it’s nice to be able to lump all of them together to know I hate these guys.

This is soulless dad rock. Special shout out to Hard to Handle for being the worst song on the album. 2/10

too normal :(

Pretty decent album to be honest. Solid 4!

The most cookie cutter hard rock you've ever done heard. Hold onto your hats, everyone: the Black Crowes are reinventing the wheel! In spite of that, it's still fun to listen to.

Really the tail end of the 80's blues revival. Speaking if which: no Stevie-ray Vaughan on this list? Preposterous! Anyways, this at the end of that brief reprise and you can already hear it sliding into pop sensibilities. It's not bad, but it's not pushing anything either. The singing is good, the riffs palatable and it doesn't drag. But at the same time there's plenty of that typical three-chord movement in every song. I'm showing my bias here: A good filler for your driving playlist, consider it the lowest of 4's.

nothing too special and the lyrics confuse me https://www.udiscovermusic.com/stories/rediscover-shake-your-money-maker/

Spiritually a 2.5 rating. No strong opinion on this either way.

cheeky 90's.

Erg vergeetbaar

Every song sounds a bit like either “All Right Now” or “Are You Gonna Be My Girl”, I guess this album defines radio friendly soft rock. It’s a nice easy listen, nothing pretentious or clever about it.

I forget that I like the black crowes sometimes

me gustooo, me hizo acordar a álbumes de queen

A really great 90's record. One of those records that seems to show you where rock music was heading.

Loud and thats it really. Hard to handle is ok but the overwhelming feeling is move on nothing to see here

Classic rock. One of those bands that I knew all the songs, but just always thought it was another band. Still, lots of good hits.

Overall pretty good rock album, however overdone. Black Crowes weren't special when they dropped. But they droped an old school album in time of musical expansion. So they get credit for just being the anthesis. Besides She talks to Angels most of these songs feel borrowed

This one was boring

It’s not the peak of musical expression or high art but I had so much fun listening to this album. Especially in context, the amount of grit and swagger portended a major shift in popular rock and I love it.

Solid rock album

Facking A! Still so good 35+ years later

i once went to a black crowes' show just to see the opener. i left before the crowes played because i had exams the next morning. i'm pretty sure that was the year i had to enroll in summer classes. moral of the story, i should have seen the crowes. i bet they put on a fun show. it's good southern blues rock.

Imitation Stones

Shake Your Money Maker is a solid debut from The Black Crowes, and you can immediately hear the band’s love for classic rock, blues, and Southern rock. There’s plenty of swagger here, with crunchy guitars, bluesy riffs, and Chris Robinson’s raspy, soulful vocals giving the album its unmistakable character. That said, for me, it was more of a “good” than a “great” listen. The album has all the right ingredients, but it never quite blew me away. Tracks like “Jealous Again,” “Hard to Handle,” and “She Talks to Angels” are undoubtedly strong, and the band clearly had the talent and attitude to stand out from the crowd. At times, though, the record feels like a very polished throwback to the classic-rock sound rather than something that completely makes its own mark. The performances are energetic, the guitars sound great, and there’s a loose, bluesy feel running through the whole thing. Still, I found myself appreciating the album more than being genuinely excited by it. Maybe some of that comes down to expectations: considering how highly regarded the record is, I was expecting something that would really grab me from beginning to end. Overall, Shake Your Money Maker is a good, straightforward rock album with some genuinely memorable songs. I can understand why it became such a successful debut and why The Black Crowes developed such a strong following. For me, though, it’s more of a respectable classic than a personal favorite — enjoyable, but not exactly a mind-blowing experience.

Inoffensive catchy dad rock. It’s alright.

Liked it more than maybe I should,

"Hard to Handle" and "She Talks to Angels" are staples on any Gen X / early Millennial's play list.

This is just mediocre aerosmith

I used to always get these guys mixed up with the other 90s rock band named after crowes. They're definitely better than those other guys, but not by a whole lot. Also I hate to burst anyone's bubble, but the original "Hard to Handle" is WAY better than this version Favorite track: She Talks To Angels

I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. If it came on in a bar while I was having beers, it would be fine. But I'm never gonna listen to this on purpose.

This is an album of the 90s for me, even though their style is an obvious throwback to some point in the 70s. Good memories, at any rate.

a classic and saw them live for the first time this year - holds up !

Buen disco

Canções no formato antigo de rock baseado no blues e R&B, sem muito atrativo.

Fun, relatively mellow rock

09/15 Pretty good

All bangers. Great throwback southern rock. Brisk and upbeat, the right record on the right day.

A decent blues-revival album. Was certainly unique for pop music when it was released.

would be better in small doses. Like - really small. What I mean by that is I'd love to hear some one or two minute section of southern rock with piano in some other genre song that mashes up genres and it'd probably be my favorite section of such song BUT... full album of just it? Idk man. It's cool. But yeah no nothing speciallll sorrrgiii

Love the singer, these songs stick with me. Fun album.

Feel good dad rock, bit guitar wanky ie robyn's car jams

This is an amazing record to slip out in the early 90s. There are so many good songs on here. Twice as Hard and Jealous Again are barn burning rock songs to kick the album off strong. Hard To Handle was the big introductory hit off the record, as I remember it back then. It's a bluesy rocker, and it's pretty fun. She Talks to Angels is the best song on the album by far. It's a beautiful song. The album tracks are good, but forgettable. Overall, an amazing record.

A up, this was a surprise Good, fun, toe tapping rock. I enjoyed this more than I expected to

Good rock and roll

4.5 for me. Really liked this one

A solid album release by southern rock blues act. Talks With Angels is a fantastic sad song on someone's passing. I'm sure it has been played countless times in grieving a loved one.

An absolute glorious debut record from one of the greatest bands of all time.

Impressive.

Okay. Seemed fresher in its time.

A couple of good songs, but I did not click with this album.

excellent record. not sure why I didn't get into them bc musically they're pretty awesome 5/5

Very fun to listen to with a lot of energy though a bit repetitive over time. None the less entertaining.

This album was great!! I liked almost every song. They have their own style and sound.

I guess this was the Greta Van Fleet of their time? Come on guys, it's 1990, we're not making unreconstructed dive-bar rock any more! This manages to sound like both the 70s and the 90s in the worst ways of both. Awful ballads – Seeing Things is a hideous listen that I had to fight not to skip, and She Talks to Angels shows a bit of emotional depth but still sounds awful. Hard to Handle is good fun but not their song. The rest washed over me inoffensively enough, but I couldn't imagine it being music of any canonical importance. I love a lot of 60s and 70s rock, but this kind of nostalgia-baiting throwback gives me the ick in a way that I don't get from, say, post-punk and synthpop revival that's heavily indebted to the 80s. I think it's because striving so hard for this sound carries an implicit "hey baby, remember real rock music?" machismo that's just deeply lame. Still, there's something pitifully noble about committing to sounding so outmoded.

It sounds almost like a put down but this was “quite enjoyable”. This is one of my favourite genres in music but although happy to listen to it there was nothing particularly individual in either the vocals or the instruments on this album. I categorise this as generic rock music which many bands perform adequately. I was waiting for the ‘wow’ track but it never really came. The first track to wake me from my reveries was “Seeing Things” – the female backing singer made this one at least a bit more interesting than the rest. I recognised “Hard to Handle” but would never have known it was this group who were responsible for it. The second half got my feet tapping more than the first though and by the last track I was thinking that listening through again might make me appreciate it more. As there is so much more music I know I would rather hear though I doubt that will happen.

Not really my sort of thing but didnt hate it. I bet this would be fun on Guitar Hero. Kind of gets worse as it goes on and Hard to Handle cover is just a bit embarrassing.

Absolute bullshit.

Pretty good bog standard American blues rock with plenty of swagger. Prior to this I've only heard the album they did with Jimmy Page, this is alright to listen to but not much to bring me back.

Do you have any idea how traumatizing it was as a kid for this to be your mom's favorite album? It's not the most shit music, but it is still obnoxiously infuriating. Every single hit here makes my ears bleed. It's very cheap rock and that's all there is to it.

They walked so Jet could run.

Great album from my youth!

I was already familiar with this album. It's a great album. It has some of the biggest hits of the 90s in Hard To Handle, She Talks To Angels, and others. For me, the quality of the non-hit songs is what elevates the album as a whole. There really is not a single dud on here. This album has been in rotation for awhile and will continue to be.

Pretty dang good. Forgot how many hits came from this album.

Well crafted piece of rock and roll. Honors the stones but does not dwell on the 60s. Exciting and fun. Loved the guitar work. This is my jam

meh, i am not a fan of southern rock or really any americana adjacent genre. in spite of that, i tried listening to it and maybe see anything that might make this album pop in any unexpected way. but it's just generic southern rock, nothing really special about it, except for the fact that this was released 20 years a too late. i guess this might be an alright throwback album for the true southern rock fans but apart from that... this was disappointing

I liked this but don't think I would listen to it again. Sort of thing that plays on Planet Rock at 11pm

Para una partida de billar en el bareto, puro bar rock

Really good straight ahead southern rock. I liked it then, and I see that it has aged well.

Like pressing a button on the Hard-Rock-American-Blues-Album-Generating-Machine™ and out slips this turd. That's probably a bit harsh but there it is.

classic rock het is best leuk gwn solid
