Siouxsie And The BansheesInto the Light slaps! The rest of the album is pretty cool too. it was fun being an 80s goth for a day
Into the Light slaps! The rest of the album is pretty cool too. it was fun being an 80s goth for a day
3/5 Interesting slice of life that takes you to the NY EDM dance scene of the late 90s. Very reminiscent of fat boy slim and chemical brothers. It makes for bice background music but it's not going to be something that is the sole focus of my attention
5/5 Banger of an album! On my top 50 of all time. It's got some real head bangers.
Great album, a ton of songs I was already familiar with but didnt know who it was. "You've got a friend" and "Natural Woman". It's a good album to listen to with the family, seems like lots of generations could appreciate it.
4/5 I really like the song disorder, and reminds me a lot of the songs I love from New Order. Definitely a staple of New Wave and I'm glad these guys blazed a path that so many others followed. I think the overall gloominess of many of the songs makes it hard for me to give it a 5 but the more uptempo songs are really enjoyable for me.
2/5 Not my kind of music but I understand that this is important in the history of rap. I was surprised by how many of the songs I recognized.
3.5/5 Really liked Into the Light. A cool goth, new wave band that I'll have to listen more to.
Fun underground hip hop from the days of High School!
2/5 Yuck!
5/5 Sure, the lyrics are haunting and deeply depressing, but this album slaps! Would and Rooster would be enough to make this a masterpiece. But wait, here comes Them Bones, Down in a hole, and Angry chair to pile on even more glorious grunge ear-spank. RIP Layne!
4/5 This album is pretty ahead of it's time. You can see how it influenced bands like Joy division and the Cure but took a more uplifting and jazzy approach with the songs. Lots of simple guitar chords layered with melodic guitar lines on top. The song Marquee Moon slaps and is an epic 10 minute journey.
3.25 / 5 While I prefer Back in Black, I think this album has some great jams and the guitar work is always fun to listen to. I think you could play this at a summer party with old dudes (myself included) and it would probably be a safe bet that people would enjoy it.
4.75/5 This album rocks!! This has the quality of a studio album, if you didnt hear the crowd you wouldn't know it was live. There were so many great guitar solos and an epic drum solo on Sha-la-la favorite tracks: Sha-la-la, Johnny the Fox This was the kind of album I hoped I'd discover on this journey
1/5 This is a true stinker. Very hard to listen to with the drums way too heavy in the mix and the incessant and incomprehensible screaming. I'm glad this was short. Best Song: You Suffer (because it was only 4 seconds long) Hopefully I never have to listen to this again
4/5 What a legend! RIP Ozzy! 3 of the first 4 songs on this album are legendary - War Pigs, Paranoid, and Iron Man. These guys blazed the path for metal music, and for that Im eternal grateful! Favorite song - Paranoid
3/5 Young Dolly is definitely more on the country side that she will be with future songs like 9 to 5. But she still shows off her singing chops and the songs are pleasant to listen to if a bit sacharine. Favorite track: Coat of Many Colors
3/5 I'll totally play this next time I'm a teenager and my boyfriend breaks up with me favorite song: Loveless
3.4 / 5 Some days you just want some upbeat rhymes and that's exactly what this delivers. No crips or bloods, just some homies reminiscing on losing their wallet in El Segundo; where they learned it's not about the destination, but the raps you made along the way. Fave Songs: Bonita Applebaum and Can I Kick it
3/5 It's a quirky and unique album, and it feels like the kind of album I should like more, but it just didn't hook me. Fave song: Monkey gone to Heaven
2.3 / 5 The fastest way to end a union strike is to make the picketers listen to this album. The instrumentals were good but his voice and the non stop on-the-nose politics were too much
3.75 / 5 A pretty good album overall. I love me some bluesy guitar licks
5/5 A banger for the ages! RIP Jimi!
4/5 Pour yourself a Manhattan, light up a stogie, and let Duke take you back to a time of Jazzy babies and cool cats. Father O'Connor could have used way less stage time, just hand it over to Duke and the boys, they've got it from here. Fave Song: Newport Up
3.25 /5 Less depressing than a lot of new wave and was pretty poppy overall. A fun listen. Fave song: Killing Moon
2.8 / 5 The funky baselines kept this at a 3 for me. Needed more jazz flute - call Ron Burgundy! Fave Song: Manenberg Revisited
3 / 5 A few hot boys but overall not one of the A tier grunge albums
3.75 / 5 This album bring the funk! A really fun album!
Probably important to the history of rap, but not important to me.
3/5 this would be great after 5 orn6 Caiprihanas. Unfortunately, my cup is empty
2.3 / 5 Make your own fatboy slim song at home! Repeat the same line 50 times and add in one or two fills! Sass aside, none of this album has the staying power of his sophomore album which I imagine we will listen to later fave song: going out of my head
This album brings me back to high school! This is pre-Fergie and definitely more on the hip hop side of things than Pop. It's cool to see how versatile BEP can be and this album has some all time bangers! fave song: Ms Jackson
Baroque Rock about the British Village Square! Heck yeah!
I know Beck is a musician's musician, and I want to like him more, but I find his songs more of a study of musical experiments rather than songs I would bop too. I do admire his talent and skill but I just want more toe tappin beats and less quirky, out-there musical smorgasbords
Marvin's a legend but this is not his best work. I appreciate being bold with a concept album about divorce, and wilder still that his wife got half the earnings from this album as alimony, but the album was super self indulgent. The sexy time in outter space song at the end lifted it back up to a 3.
This album slaps! The bass solos were funky and the horns were snappy. This is the kind of hidden gem that I did this challenge for! Fave song: Bonin' in the boneyard
So bland... so boring... so wimpy. Even elevators wouldn't tolerate this music
Oh yeah, now this is the Marvin we love!
Love those smooth, dulcet tones. Well done Stevie!! Fave Song: Too High
Gimme an open road and some Neil Young and that's a pretty good time. He's not winning any voice contests but his guitar lyrics are silky smooth. fave song: Mansion on the Hill
Garden State anyone? I liked this album, good instrumentals and Nick has a cool relaxing voice. fave song: one of these things first
Ok here's the thing about Jon Spencer. He plays some songs that shows that he knows how to make a catchy song. That means that he is choosing to suck. And that's the worst kind of sucking. Some people give it their all and fall short. That's ok, it happens. Jon chose to suck, and slaps your ears with terrible noise.
some good songs on this one! Definitely enjoyed it more than Odelay. Fave song: Girl (really liked this one!)
I think Bob was what the people needed at the time, but I have a hars time connecting with him today. Also not a huge fan of the screeching shrill of the harmonica. Too much!
I went in ready to give this a 3. But then every song brought something new and fun! there was rock, blues, and even some gospel. Not to mention Amazing Grace. Well done Rod, I had written you off and I shouldn't have
A decent little punk and ska album but not one of the greats.
I'm really not into the wispy vocals. I can see how this was very influential to people like Bon Iver or Iron and Wine but it just didnt do it for me. None of the songs really drew me in.
One could easily be confused into thinking is a greatest hits album. Almost every song has gotten radio time and it slaps top to bottom. Not really an A and B side so much as two A sides. Blistering solos and passionate vocals make this one for the ages. Fave song: Back in Black
I've liked me some punk bands in my day, but this is just too much to get behind. They really lost me at the 10 minutes of noise punk at the end. I appreciate that this inspired greater bands, but I'm glad leaving this one behind
Not bad, just put on some Donnie Darko and youre ready to go.
Beautiful and at times haunting. The level of musicality is really showing and I dig how the guitar and strings play together. RIP my man
these songs are catchy musically, and eminems ability to rhyme is amazing. Those are at a 4 to 5 level but the edge lord lyrics are like a 1 or 2. We get it, youre angry, gonna slit our throats, and call us homophobic slurs
Baba O'Riley is one of the best songs ever! This album slaps
Into the Light slaps! The rest of the album is pretty cool too. it was fun being an 80s goth for a day
That was straight gangsta
Oh Ronda! The apple of everyone's eye! This isn't the best beach boys album but I wouldn't turn it off if it came on.
I didn't really like U2 much in the 90s. I thought that might change with age... but it still doesn't do it for me
Some great songs, and what a voice! I wanted the bass to be dialed up a little funkier and some of the songs dont know when to end (looking at you joy inside my tears)
a little bit folk, a litte bit blues, a Lotta heart
This was close to a 4 for me. Tainted Love is a hot bop and Sex Dwarf was a wild song that only gets crazier the more you read the lyrics. Stay quirky Soft Cell!
