MudhoneySomeone said they made it through 5 tracks ... how?
Someone said they made it through 5 tracks ... how?
Well ... THAT was different! And in a good way! It kinda reminded me of Pink Floyd's Ummagumma - kinda. Nice background music while working away on Photoshop. I'll be back for more of this!
Not bad! I. marked one song as a fav so I can go back and listen to more.
I remember when this came out. Now they overplay Tiny dancer and Levon on classic rock radio stations, and I hardly ever hear Madman Across the water. Great song - Loved the strings arrangement of this one.
One of the best! Loved it when it came out, love it now.
Thanks for making me listen to this. She's beautiful, for sure, but I don't know ... I don't understand her popularity. 21 songs was a bit much for me.
I don't think there was one bad song on this one!
Not bad, but I wasn't expecting to be yelled at this morning! There are some good songs on here, but I don't think I'd run out to buy it.
Critics may have liked this, but I didn't. Guess I was done with Bruce after Born to Run.
Good One! Always on the turntable to get the party started!
Don't think I had ever listened to this whole album before, I got into Bob Marley on his next album, Burnin', and his 'Live' album. This was good to listen to, some familiar songs, and some new (to me) that was really good. I had the pleasure of seeing him at the Music Hall in Houston, Texas, and his show was one of the best I've ever seen. Such energy, and he was ... remarkable!
Thanks, but no thanks. It has some nice beats, and it's not loud in-your-face, but it's just not for me.
I had heard of them, but had not listened to them that I know of. I almost gave up on this one, even stopped it for a wile, but kept going just to see. And finally - 'You caught the light' came on. Nice, slower, not so poppy or synth-y. Really liked the dreamy tone of it. After that there were a couple more good ones, but most of it - not for me.
Nice way to start the day. Street Life was a good listen. May need to visit some of the other albums.
Got some good stuff on here, and it's their first album! But, not enough for me to run out and buy it.
Not sure this album holds up well, some 26 years later! No doubt there are some good songs here, but to listen to the whole album? It gets too repetitive for me.
I was interested to see what Dion had done after the do-wop songs he's famous for. And this was pleasant, but I just couldn't make it all the way through it. Too much ... pretty boring ... just a no ... thank-you
That was nice. This was one I had as a cassette back in the day, and it was good then, and I think it's better now! If you listen to any classic rock radio station, all you will hear from this is Bang a gong. But they really should play Life's a gas or Rip off, or some of the other gems on this one.
Well, that was interesting! 1st song starts out good - and then he sings! I almost stopped it right there, well, actually I did. But I tried another, and City Lights was different, and pretty good. But it kept bouncing around, like they just didn't know WHAT to play. By the end of the album they are playing older songs, and they do them well. I know, Mick Jagger heard them and like 'em. But I'm not going to add this to my must listen list.
Well, I've never been a fan of Iggy Pop, but this wasn't bad. I'd listen to it again, and may check out some of his newer stuff.
Yes please! Make me listen to more of this! What a band, and what a great album with so many familiar and wonderful songs. I liked it so much, I had to go through the other albums, and had myself a CCR day!
I've heard the name before, and probably listened to a song or two. But never sat through a whole album. Not bad, nice latin beats, but not sure I'm coming back to listen to more.
I found this one hard to listen to. Sure it has some good stuff on it, but overall? I was there - in 1969, Junior year in High School, and I’m wondering why this album wasn’t in my sphere … well … look at the music that was coming out that year! Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, CCR, Dr. John, Iron Butterfly, Donovan, Fleetwood Mac - and that was just January! Look it up, the year was epic, and this band, for me, just wasn’t.
Well, I thought I liked them! On this album, the two stand-outs are the ones that get the most air time, I want you to want me and surrender. Other than that, it's just okay. And I looked at some of their other albums ... guess it's just not for me.
Jittery. Neurotic. Darkly comical. And that’s how the description of the band begins on Spotify. Might I add - can’t sing? It opens with a familiar song, Blister in the sun. Starts out good, but never did like his singing. After that - just a no from me.
I remember when this came out, loved it then, it's ... okay now.
I used to love Steely Dan, but they really start to annoy me after a while. I don't know what it is ...
Thank-you, but no thank-you. Not a good way to start the day.
This wasn't bad - It was actually a nice way to start the day. A good 1st album.
Loved this! Always imagine being in the crowd at a place like this.
Bowie. He left us with some great music!
Massive Attack - was good to hear this again. Such good music, it's great to work to. I really liked Mezzanine, which was when I first heard them, but this is good. And I had the pleasure of seeing them, with my daughter, in Houston. Great experience!
not for me. Saw them once, and they were good, but I'm not buying it.
L O V E Portishead. And from reading about them, so did a lot of others. I can only hope that they get it together and put out some more amazing music.
Very 1968! And very British. The Kinks have so many hits, but I do not remember any of these songs. The album was a nice listen, but not sure I will revisit it anytime soon. There are many more Kinks albums to check out!
What's not to like about listening to this great singer?! My only concern was that after starting to listen, and not paying to attention, that it felt like the longest record - ever. Then I looked and saw 40 songs! I like Otis, but it really did go a little too long. Good stuff, but ...
I tried. In fact, I checked out his other albums. But no, it's a no for me.
This was a nice listen. I'm not a huge Bowie fan, but he HAS been there, putting out good music for most of my life. Of course there's Young American's and Fame, and to listen to any classic radio station, you would think that's all he did. Wish there was a classic station that played 'the rest of' the music.
Beautiful music!
Darn. Make me listen to Jimi. Just one of the best ... ever! Are you experienced? Man, music would never be the same after Jimi.
One of the best - brings back so many memories!
Goo - Nooooooo. Quit yelling at me!
Never heard of 'em. But, we are here to listen to new things, so I listened. It was okay, but after a while it just got to a point where I had to stop. I also checked out a couple of there other albums, but I don't think I need to come back for any more.
I liked some, and I didn't like some. And I didn't make it all the way through. Too long and repetitive.
I liked it, and I don't really like Neil Young! Oh well.
It was nice to revisit Highway 61 Revisited! Bob Dylan is genius, his writing, his music, but ... his singing has always been a kind of love/hate thing. Sometimes I can take and sometime I wish he'd just stop. Good album though.
I enjoyed this one. Always liked Aerosmith, and this one gets ya going!
not for me, thanks.
some good stuff on here. and some not so good. But over all, the classics that are on this album make it with the time to listen, and enjoy!
it was okay until the the 4th song, Don't Stop. Gave me a headache, and I had to ... stop.
First try - I stopped after the first song, just wasn't feeling it. Second try, made it through. There is some good stuff on this, but there's more NOT good stuff. So - glad to have listened, but ...
THAT - was a party!
thanks, but no thanks. this concept failed!
Not bad - I saw them At the Houston Free Press Summer Fest and enjoyed the show.
O my ... take me back to those days! Speed King! Child in Time?!!! I loved Deep Purple - the keyboards always killed it. Richie Blackmore, Jon Lord, Ian Gillan, Roger Glover and Ian Paice, That's the band I saw and loved. Damn good stuff!
Monday, Monday - California Dreaming - Go where you wanna Go Such great music - memories - magic!
That wasn't bad! There were some songs I didn't care for, but over all it was a good listen.
Nope!
A couple of well known classics on here - that get over played and old. I kinda liked the melodies, relaxing, gentle, and I thought I liked I believe - until I read the lyrics. Guys - It'e NEVER too late to believe!
Wow, that's a long album. Has some big hits, lots of misses. Don't know how we used to listen to this all the way through.
I liked it. Made me want to listen to more, so I checked out their next album 'Show your Bones'. May even listen to some others!
I don't think I've ever listened to Tim Buckley before. This wasn't bad, not sure I'm coming back to it, but it was a good listen.
Well ... THAT was different! And in a good way! It kinda reminded me of Pink Floyd's Ummagumma - kinda. Nice background music while working away on Photoshop. I'll be back for more of this!
I try, I really try to like Prince. This didn't help!
interesting, but it gets old fast.
Finally - some good music! What an incredible 'first' album! Something completely different at the time! Still works for me today!
Green Onions, boy, I remember that one. So cool, my brother and his little garage band played it ... memories ... so cool. The rest of it isn't bad either.
Never was a Cure fan, and this one started out okay, but the more it went on, the more I didn't like it. I made it all the way, but won't be listening to it again.
Wow, not what I was expecting! I liked all of this - except the last song, Wars of Armageddon. But starting with Maggot Brain - the guitar work, just good music. Will be coming back to hear more from this group.
I remember the hype about this one, and listening to it again, I don't think it held up well.
Some good stuff here. Hoochie Coochie Man, Got my Mojo Working, Baby Please Don't Go ... when I hear live albums like this from way back,I can just imagine being there!
Can't believe it's 20 years old. Has some good stuff on it, but not going on my playlist.
never heard of him, not adding to MY. list ...
Couldn't bring myself to listen, I don't like 'em .. and reading reviews, I didn't miss anything.
I like it!
A lot of people like this stuff ... I'm not one of them. Made it about half-way through.
It was okay, but I didn't make it all the way through. I used to like him, but not anymore ...
Everybody loves some Simon and Garfunkel. And there's only SOME songs on here to love.
I don't know about this one ... I made it through to the last song, Take it or leave it and decided I'd leave it.
Oh my ... so good. Ya never know what you're going to get with jazz, but this was perfect for my morning listen!
I was a fan, liked their music because it was a little different, but - now I just can't. Maybe because a few of their songs get so much airplay on the 'classic rock' stations, every time they come on - I switch the channel.
Finally - some good music here! One great song after another. And if you ever see them, you will hear a couple from this album. Such a good band, live - even better!
Nice. Smooth. Beautiful music.
Loved it.
It was okay. Probably won't be looking him up for future listening.
Disco in the morning? I wasn't ready!!! This has a couple of good songs, and they do seem to be too long, but maybe that was to keep us dance, dance, dancin'.
Not bad! Don't think I've ever heard of Doves before, and will have to check out their other albums.
Love Massive Attack, but I'm glad I heard Mezzanine before listening to this.
It's a no for me. Didn't make it through this one ... why is it on the list?
NOPE!
not bad, kinda interesting. Reminded me of something ... Groove Collective maybe?
To me, this was boring. I'm starting to wonder who made this list?!
not bad, but something about it, maybe the guys voice, not a fan.
Not a Metallica fan, but wow, I like this! What, 4 or 5 songs that were hits from one album? Will listen again!
What a way to start something, Led Zeppelin! 1st album! And finally, one album that, no doubt about it, belongs on this list.
Never was a fan. And still not after listening to this.
Love it.
Interesting, but not going on my playlist
interesting. But Sweet Dreams is the best, and I liked This city never sleeps.
Marvin Gaye. What’s going on. Nuff said.
Couple of good songs, couple of songs(?) of someone yelling at me.
Nice background music for working in Photoshop, but ... way too long. wore out its welcome after the album's titular song.
So, what is it, the absolute best - or complete bore? I bought this album when it came out, and probably listened to the whole thing once. Then, since it was 4 sides - only listened to side one and side four. Too much, too long.
why - why is this on the list? I'd give it no stars if I could.
Started out loud, like I wasn't going to like it, but settled down a touch, and enjoyed listening. Still - won't run out to buy it!
I don't know why I don't have any of her albums. This was wonderful.
Nope. Kinda like the music, but - not his singing.
Love it.
sorry - not in the mood for this.
For some reason, I didn't want to listen to this. Maybe some overplayed songs on classic rock radio? IDK, but I did listen, and it's as good as ever. Great song after great song ... they were the best.
I like Moby. But this album felt more repetitive than I remembered, and went on way too long. Guess fro me - it didn't age well.
no thank you.
The album featured the band's first top-thirty single, a cover of Al Green's "Take Me to the River".
You ever look at an album cover and say I don't need to listen to that? I just did.
I listened. Still do not like the singing. at all.
I don't know what to think about this. Some good, some meh. He definitely has done some epic stuff, but this, to me, isn't one.
Love it. Love the sound of Supertramp.
not a fan
Well it was smooth, and not too bad to listen to. The falsetto gets old though, and Shit, Damn, Motherfucker? Really?
That was wonderful. One of those - I wish I was there - kind of albums.
I guess you have to be in the mood to listen to this. I wasn't.
Liked it, except for Weenie Bernie and Watershed, where it's just a screaming mess.
8 minutes of Good Times. Wore me out! The second song, A warm summers night was a nice, smooth song. Then more disco and stuff that just didn't work for me.
Loved it. All good, and some really great songs on here. I remember when it came out - I fell in Love with Janet!
Classic! The best! Every song! I remember we couldn't WAIT for their new albums to come out, and they never disappointed us.
nO u2 thank you. I tried, but it's not for me.
Well, at first listen, I wasn't liking it. But I gave it another shot a day later, and I'm okay with it. Kind of a throw back to earlier days, dreamy, has a lot of reverb going on. IDK, will probably listen again.
No way - thank you
It wasn't bad - but it wasn't good. Just not my thing, I guess.
I liked this. I liked the bluesy sound. Glad I listened to it. By this time in 1969, I was finding my own musical path, and Elvis wasn't on it any more. Maybe because he was so mainstream, or maybe because Mom liked him? IDK, but he WAS a part of growing up, and added to my musical background.
Lot of haters on this 'album a day' thing. Imagine is huge! And there are some other great songs here. Not on my daily must listen to list, but come on ...
Did not realize this was almost ALL instrumental. I started listening to The Mothers of Invention with 'we're only in it for the money.' Drove my sister nuts! But it's been hit or miss with Frank, some outstanding stuff and some not so much. THIS is pure magic. I love when he just plays, and that's what you get with this.
I listen to these albums the first thing in the morning as I start my work at home day. This was a pleasant enough way to start the day. Don't think it's ever going to be in any regular rotation though ...
Never heard of them, but I kinda like it. Pharrell Williams is pretty creative, and I did not know this was his project, and with Lenny kravitz on a couple of songs? Not bad. I'm not sure I'll remember this, but it's good to have options. Had to listen to it again before writing this, so ...
Nope. I couldn't listen to the whole thing.
I don't know, I've tried, but I just don't care for him.
So - Peter Gabriel is that good! I was listening to the anniversary edition, and after a while I thought this wasn't right. It's way too long. I didn't realize they had 3 'discs' on the 25th anniversary deluxe edition, which to me made it .. well, lets' just say different. It went on too long for me. SO - I listened again, just the original album, and it's perfect as is. No need to add tracks. He's amazing!
I like this one from Bob. I actually bought this album at the time it came out. Has some really good songs on it.
I don't know. Is it his voice? I just never got into them. Have to pass on them ... again.
Sorry, didn't make it past the 3rd song. It's a no for me.
Interesting, but no.
It was okay, but the standout is Breakdown, then Mystery man. The rest is ... eh.
This has some classics on it, but they aren't what I was remembering them to be. Sounds really dated and some are just /// Bad.
Someone said they made it through 5 tracks ... how?
The only U2 album (CD or cassette?) I ever bought. And the last. Some good stuff on here, but Bono! Over does it again.
Nice way to start the day
I like it. Glad to have friends that listened to it, back in the day, and shared it with me. At the time I thought, Beck - sure - but WE had JEFF BECK! Nobody can come close to that. But this was just ... different, and I'm glad to have it in my history.
Certainly one of the best, with a lot of familiar songs on it. Bowie was on a roll here, and this album was a regular on our turntable.
Pleasantly surprised. Never heard of them, and was really expecting some ... screaming. But it wasn't like that at all. Not sure I'll come back to this, but ya never know ...
I tried. But it's a no for me.
Pretty good, a little long, but nice to work to.
I mean .... It's Paul Simon! Some great songs here, but It's not something I would go to my musical closet of choice, to pull out and put on the player. I enjoyed it, nice easy to listen to.
Started out strong, liked the first three songs, but then it kinda fell apart for me. I was wondering if it was the same group. But, they are a great band, and brought us some great music.
It was okay. Started out interesting, but faded fast.
started. but got distracted by DAVID GILMOUR. He released his new album today LUCK and STRANGE. Just not going to finish whatever it was I was listening to.
Simply the best. But hey, I was there when they came out and took the world by storm. I mean, hit after hit after hit on this album alone! Only one song that I was not very familiar with (when I get home) off of this thing. The rest are all classic Beatles and just great music. 10 stars!
Sorry Slim, it's a no for me.
That was enjoyable! I will have to check out some of his other albums.
One, maybe 2 songs worth my time here. Had to skip through a bunch. Outro said it best ... fu*k Limp Bizkit, man ...
The band's first album to feature lead singer Brian Johnson, following the death of previous lead singer Bon Scott. And to me, that is the problem with AC/DC. I can't stand that guys voice! There are a couple of classics here that I can get through, but over all - I can't.
Mingus ... I've listened to some of his music before, it's been a while. This was a good experience. Like a movie soundtrack sometimes, not so crazy. I'll come back to this one, and try more of Charlie Mingus in the future.
Very nice! A nice way to start the day, it did get a little long in the middle of it, but still would go back to this again!
So many people give this a 5! I remember buying this and being disappointed with it, after seeing them play back in the day. And revisiting it today ... still tough for me to get through. Family Affair - great, but the rest? I give it a 3, but I don't need to come back to it.
I liked The Knife, so of course I liked this. Great way to start the day!
I liked it. It's one I bought when it came out, we all listened, sang along. It was good fun!
So I didn't know that Sultans of Swing was on their first album. Because Ive never listened to their first album before. It was quite good, I enjoyed it and may even come back to it later.
We bought this as a CD, mainly for the song Tusk. I didn't remember most of the rest, and after listening today, I can see why. Of the 20 songs, there may be three that I would listen to again. Sarah, Sisters of the moon and Tusk. The rest ... IDK ... but the last song is Never Forget. But I will.
Well, I think it started out okay, had some good tunes I could get into, but after a while it kinda fell apart for me. Maybe just too much of the same thing? Don't think I will be coming back to it.
Oh my ... what was that? Other than Killer Queen this is totally forgettable - for me. I see it gets many 5s, but are they just giving 5s because it's Queen? I can see how this album is a stepping stone for their incredible sound, but I'm just glad they survived after putting this out!
It's All Right. But this whole thing seems a little rushed. No space between songs, trying really hard to get a sing-along going. Usually I hear a live recording like this, and wish I was there, but not this time. I also check out the artist for other recordings, and I found that the next year, 1964, he has another live album .... Sam Cooke At The Copa. Now THAT is one I wish I was in the audience. This one, not so much, Sorry Sam.
Some crazy stories about the Zombies. This, to me is very 68 sounding, like what everyone was playing in garage bands, all trying to be so cool. But as I listened, I couldn't believe how different it all sounded. Each song was like a different band. And I wondered - how the hell did they come up with 'Time of the season' out of all those different sounds! It was completely different from the rest of the album. And I am so completely happy that someone believed in them enough to make it happen. Because it's such a great song. 4 out of 5 because there were a couple of stinkers in there and Time of the season is a 5 all by itself!
I listened to a few songs, but just wasn't feeling it, so I quit.
It was okay. Truth ... I had to stop about half way through, it was a little bland. Don't get me wrong, I love Emmylou. She's beautiful, talented, and the voice is wonderful. But I started it back up the next day, and really enjoyed the rest of the album.
It has received critical acclaim. Yeah, I bet it was ALL critical. Who in the _____ would listen to this? No way I could sit and listen to it. 1001 albums I must listen to? It's a joke, right? This does not deserve a star - at all.
LOVED it. This came out about the time I saw him at one of his 4th of July picnics. Good times!
Not bad, I guess ... Message in a bottle and Walking on the moon were familiar, the rest not so much. It was okay, but won't be coming back to it.
come on ... you're kidding, right?
It's The Roots! And ... I didn't like it. There may be a couple of songs that actually sound like songs on here, but I just don't like or understand rap. I know - but they are on The Tonight Show. Maybe I like 'em there because it's Mostly just the band?
In the reviews, it states: Noted by writers as musically unconventional ... boy, I'll say! But it was SO unconventional that I couldn't stop listening to it! Not sure I'll be back to it, but it made for some easy background, work music.
I believe I bought this one. A really good album, nice to visit it again. Give it 4 stars, there may be a couple of songs on here that don't fit in, and makes the whole album a little too long.
I don't know .. there are some good songs on here, but Neil Young just bugs me. Is it his whiney voice? Like I said, IDK what to think about this one. I do like the opening and closing songs ... and powder finger .... but I wouldn't run out to buy it.
I like it. Most of it anyway. And it's good music to have in the background while working. Really liked Come to me!
Well, that was interesting! Everyone remembers American Pie, but the rest of it? Get ready for sad songs, because album this has 'em. Not saying that's a bad thing, it's just not MY thing!
"one of the most acclaimed records of 2003 and went on to win the Mercury Prize for best album from the UK and Ireland". ARE YOU F'ING KIDDING ME .... It was painful , and NO ONE MUST HEAR this. STOP DAT!
It was okay, got a little long - being two albums - and I didn't really hate it, but I didn't really like it either.
It's got some good and familiar songs, but a lot of stinkers on it too. And I always start my day with this list, and I really don't like being yelled at in the morning! Thank you.
It's Joni! It was a pleasant album to listen to, brings back a lot of memories, but I soured on Joni after seeing her concert in Houston. She was in a bad mood, and took it out on the crowd. Never forgot that, and quit listening to her after it.
Johnny Cash .... Some good songs here, and some TBH, not so much. Last album by him, so we know his voice wasn't quite the same. Still - undeniably Johnny Cash!
Well that was a pleasant surprise! I don't know what I expected, but it wasn't this. I might have to come back to it.
It was okay, but never understood the hype about this band. okay, but not for me.
I saw this and said to myself ... oh no! And sure enough, I was right. The lyrics, if you can call them lyrics, are trash. If I could get this without all the nasty lyrics, I'd might enjoy it. But as it is, it should not be on any must listen to list. No.
A pleasant surprise ... I don't think I've ever really listened to Kate Bush. And for once the 1001 Albums you must hear before you die, does something I think it was intended to do ... introduce us to good music we might otherwise overlook. Thing is, after having to listen to Dr. Dre ... I don't really believe that. But this one - worked! It started out okay, but got better and better. And after listening to it, I went on to some of her other albums. I will be adding her to my favorites list.
Wonderful album. Been a fan since my friend Randy Kolb introduced them to me in the 70s. Saw them at the Arie Crown Theater in Chicago, March 21, 1972. Great album!
I'm sorry, I just couldn't. This is the third? Neil Young album, and I started it, but just can't finish it. So I listened to Dweezil Zappa instead. At least he can sing!
Well THAT was interesting! And in a good way. Never heard of the KLF! Not on Spotify, so I had to look for it, but it was worth it. The songs are good, it's different, and some get a little weird. Somewhere in a review they said to look for Justified and Ancient video. Wow - that was good. Was that Tammy Wynette? Yes - yes it was. vewy intewesting!
It's Bob Dylan ... it has some greats stuff ... and stuff you want to skip over. Because his voice is awful. Because of the greats I give it 4 stars, but I had to skip a few ....
Has some good songs, but mostly just an angry soul yelling at me. Not what ya want to hear first thing in the morning! 'A warm Place' was a pleasant surprise!
Not bad, good background music to have on while working ...
Not bad, may came back to it. May not ...
Weird. Noise.
Well ... I wasn't excited about listening to this, but it was a good listen, better than I thought it would be. And I love reading the reviews. Everything from 5 star, best album ever, to If I could give it a minus, I would - hated it. And appropriation is mentioned often. People, if we don't share ideas and learn things from each other ... how we gonna grow? Sit back and listen to it, geez!
It was okay, but I don't think I'll be running back to it.
A little - goes a long way. Although I like this type of music, I like it in smaller doses, I guess. This was way too much, for way too long.
I want my money back!
interesting, and might have been good at the time, but I'm not going to invest any more time with this one.
