Back To Black by Amy Winehouse
Mar 24 2026

Still feel Amy is overrated and derivative. An actual doo-wop album would have better. I think her popularity was influenced by the contrast of other artists at the time and later by the tragedy of her death. I found nothing innovative in her vocals or music (given that some tracks were direct samples). Overall a “good” to “okay” album, but not 1001-worthy.

Odessey And Oracle by The Zombies
Mar 25 2026

Excellent harmonies and lush story telling. The influence of the Beatles is evident in the horns sections of certain tracks of the album recorded in Abbey Road studios. The final track “Time of the Season” is the quintessential psychedelic groove. An album worthy of its place on this list.

Cloud Nine by The Temptations
Mar 26 2026

This album is by all interpretations, a transitional album both in its date of release (at the end of the 60s the cusp of the 1970s) and in the style of songs. the first half of the album has groovy funk rhythms that would become the bedrock of the 1970s soul funk genre while the second half of the album is the classic Motown sounds that the Temptations were known for.

Stankonia by OutKast
Mar 28 2026

The first album in the generator that made me say “YYEESSS!!” when I saw it pop up. One of the greatest rap groups of all time, OutKast redefines the genre in this album. A mixture of tracks and interludes, some go hard, others humorous. There’s an undertone of joy in this album. I wish music videos were part of the 1001 experience as OutKast masterfully paired film with lyrics in Ms Jackson and BOB. Andre was right, “the South’s got something to say!”

Boston by Boston
Apr 03 2026

One of the best debut albums in rock history. It defined the sound of 70’s rock.

Hounds Of Love by Kate Bush
Apr 05 2026

Deserves to be on the best 100 albums let alone 1001. Kate Bush wrote, recorded, and produced this album in her private studio in her barn. Layering the vocals, synthesizer, and sound effects herself. Always innovative and ahead of her time, this album’s influence can be heard in artists to come a decade later like Bjork, Fiona Apple, and Tori Amos and less obvious artists like Placebo, Radiohead, and Big Boi.

Beggars Banquet by The Rolling Stones
Apr 07 2026

Just not a Stones fan but otherwise okay. Sounds like a working man cosplay album. Only diamond is sympathy for the devil.

Billion Dollar Babies by Alice Cooper
Apr 08 2026

Surprised how much I enjoy this album. The pageantry of the first number is evident, an overture meant to be performed live.

Apr 09 2026

Even at 26 Rod has the gravelly, textured voice and the reflective, sentimental lyrics of someone much older. The acoustic and steel guitars give an unpolished but lovely, sincere sound.

Among The Living by Anthrax
Apr 10 2026

I’m not a fan of the genre myself but can understand the appreciation of this album.

Music in Exile by Songhoy Blues
Apr 11 2026

First album to come up from Africa. Delightful surprise

L'Eau Rouge by The Young Gods
Apr 12 2026

The influence on future bans like NIN and Rammstein is evident. An innovative, early industrial album.

Hunky Dory by David Bowie
Apr 14 2026

The album when “Bowie became Bowie.” As always, Bowie is ahead of his time in this 1971 album era hose influence can be heard years later

Blue by Joni Mitchell
May 08 2026

Meh.

Rumours by Fleetwood Mac
May 16 2026
Ten by Pearl Jam
May 19 2026

Absolutely deserves its place on the list. A pivotal album that defined rock for the decade.

The Slider by T. Rex
May 20 2026

Okay to good album. But I won’t add it to my permanent list.

Paris 1919 by John Cale
May 29 2026

It’s one of those albums with such esoteric lyrics that critics claim they love it just so they don’t feel stupid.
