Fine album with some iconic songs that have stood the test of time.

Fantastic album.

Not my usual, preferred genre but enjoyed the listen.

Didn’t hear this first time round, introduced to them via the second album Doolittle. Sets the scene for what follows. Enjoyed the rawness with nice melodies weaved within. A solid debut.

Delighted to be reacquainted with this gem of an album. A blend of all there is to love about the Smiths and side 2 contains some magnificent singles. The chorus of ‘ there is a light’ is one of the greatest of all time.

Iconic album that offered more than the superb tracks it contains. Part of a force that was challenging endemic racism, acceptance of unemployment and community disintegration all done with musicality and energy that would blow your porkpie hat off!

Some fantastic songs and something of a ‘coming of age’ album given their less than impressive second album ‘this is the modern world’. Stand outs include ‘to be someone’ and the classic ‘English rose’. Loved Billy Hunt live too

Not a genre I’m familiar with but enjoyed it nonetheless. An atmospheric and largely enjoyable range of tracks set against narrative that paints an engaging and sometimes troubling NY backdrop

Beautifully crafted songs. Brings to mind Cohen and one of my favorite contemporary artists, Michael Head.

No second album syndrome here. Marr’s guitar and Morrissey’s lyrics and voice combine to offer a uniquely recognisable blend of melancholy angst and musicality that is still a joy to listen to

A strong album of its type which includes the classic ‘bad moon rising’ but not a classic album in and of itself. A tight band of accomplished musicians but a bit ‘southern rock’ run of the mill for me

A mixed bag of oddities. Love Syd’s voice with Terrapin, Octopus and Gold Hair being the most enjoyable tracks. The others I can take or leave. Mostly likely to leave.

A mixed bag of an album for me. Some accomplished old school but uninspiring blusey tracks and some classic and brilliant songs with Gimme Shelter being the standout

A good ol’ traditional country toe tapper. Lynn has a great voice made for this genre. Enjoyed it

Enjoyed it. Not normally a fan of the ‘concept’ album per se but this works for me, I guess because the songs stand out in their own right. A Beatlesy vibe to it too which is fine by me

An excellent album. Stand out tracks, homeland, sweet bird of truth and slow train to dawn. Loved it when first released and enjoyed reacquainting myself with it now

Perfect, sunshine and cocktail invoking easy listening.

A continuation of form from the first 2 albums. The same punky drive as the first two but with a developing knack of a poppier tune. Clearly the timeless classic that is Fairy Tale of New York sits centre stage but is accompanied by a fine array of other songs ranging from Turkish Song of the Damned to Thousands are Sailing.

An ok album. Was somehow expecting more energy and vibrancy. Pacific 202 stood out. I’m sure the tracks have more impact played loud in a club and lose their potency being heard via earpiece headphones but left feeling uninspired in any case.

A solid post punk album, one that made me want to hear live.

Hadn’t listen to this in years. Wasn’t one that I thought of as being up there amongst their best when comparing to the first 3 albums but really enjoyed it. Peace Frog a stand out but almost rate the more bluesy standards such as road house and I’m a spy

A raucous, rock and roll performance as you’d expect. Not my cup of tea in general but entertaining and would definitely have been great fun to be there

Brilliant album. Unlike some, the continued familiarity with most tracks doesn’t dull them. The phrase ‘timeless classic’ couldn’t be more apt.

New a few of the songs before listening. Album matched expectations. A top album. Can see why they are referenced as an influence for so many that followed

A delightful blend of Sinatra’s dulcet tones and Jobim’s musicality gives a different flavour to these songs, a number of which I knew from Astrid Gilberto renditions. Very pleasant indeed

One of the finest. Masterful, moving, soulful, spiritual and heartfelt. A wonderful example of the enduring power of music by one of its greatest exponents.

Hadn’t listened to a Dylan album in full for years. Some great songs although you have to be in the right mood for the voice!

A move away from what I’m used to with The Beach Boys but liked it for the most part nonetheless. Am guessing that Wilson’s eccentricity informed some of less conventional songs. All in all an enjoyable listen

Enjoyed the album. Didn’t know what to expect and thought it might be more ‘rock n roll’ but was actually more soul and R&B. Made me wonder if he had any association with the likes of the Drifters but don’t think he did.

An ok album with some well crafted pop songs. Very much ‘of its type’ and not a record that I’d badge as essential listening
