Scissor Sisters by Scissor Sisters

Not really for me. To parody-of-disco.

Zombie by Fela Kuti
Sep 22 2023

Seemed like a powerful anti-military message. “You will lose your soul”. Effective and very beautiful. The horns felt like singing in the rhythms were so groovy.

Bayou Country by Creedence Clearwater Revival
Sep 23 2023

Seems like more of a historic pick. CCR has lots of songs I really like but none of them are on this album. Graveyard train would’ve been a jam for me but it really over stays it’s welcome imo. Expected more for this list.

Being There by Wilco
Sep 24 2023

Oof. I guess it’s for someone. Songs sound really low effort to me. They’ve mastered the country/honky-tonk meander and songs take an eternity to get going. No hooks. Had to speed run this one bc it’s over an hour. Kinda liked what the opener was setting-up but I won’t be taking any of these tracks with me.

The Low End Theory by A Tribe Called Quest
Sep 25 2023

Could listen to this album all day long. Have loved it for years. Can’t believe this is from 91.

Blue by Joni Mitchell
Sep 26 2023

Not on Spotify. Found it on YouTube. Really incredible. This album clearly informed a lot of my favorite artists, and it was like a hidden objects game to find all the vocal cadencies that I recognize. These tracks are very unpredictable and full of interesting details both in lyrics and instrumentals. She’s amazing. I knew I’d love her, and I do. My mother in law loves her too and I can’t wait to talk to her later tonight at dinner about how good this was.

Black Sabbath by Black Sabbath
Sep 27 2023

The debut album. I enjoyed this a lot as a historic pick. The longer form songs were a nice surprise. Ozzy has a cool voice and geezer (who I believe is the guitarist) seems to be inventing the idea of metal riffs. These songs are fun!

Something/Anything? by Todd Rundgren
Sep 28 2023

Really cool how it gives you an auditory glimpse into the studio at various times. A handful of really cool moments and I really liked the production, especially if the drums. I think I knew Todd Rundgren’s name maybe, but I def knew “i just wanna bang on the drum all day” (which is not on this album. That song just makes me think of ads for cruise ships. Album was long but that’s okay. Some great moments and a few cringy moments.

The Slim Shady LP by Eminem
Sep 29 2023

There’s a lot of hip hop albums I’d rather be hearing but none of them evoke to me the image of an angry pastor’s wife who grounded their kids for owning this album, furiously jotting down every swear and suggestive lyric in a notebook to bring to a church group. This made so many people mad who also tried to blame videogames, dnd, comedians, and rock and roll for their failures as parents; and that’s awesome. This album emboldened a lot of weak minded people to never mature, but it also gave my generation a chance to see the hypocrisy of those before us, because now we know eminem isn’t really a dangerous guy, he’s just a talented lyricist with a violent character he likes to rap as. No more dangerous than Joe pesci irl bc of who he portrayed in good fellas.

Metallica by Metallica
Sep 30 2023

Not super excited to get started with this one. I guess it works for background music if you’re getting drunk on someone’s back porch. Nothing really stands out here musically besides kirk’s got a few really cool riffs. James’ lyrics are terrible. Drums are boring af. Didn’t really notice bass besides the opening to (I think) misery my friend which is a bass riff written by a middle schooler. A few cool songs I guess, none are coming with me. Lady Luck, please send me an album I give a f about!

Eliminator by ZZ Top
Oct 01 2023

Sounds like the Home Depot theme. 1000x better than Metallica. Good background music. I didn’t mind it. I’m sure all their albums sound just like this one, I’ve never been more sure of anything in my life.

Oct 02 2023

Great ride. Lots of strong imagery and storytelling. The rawness and extensive cast make this record one of the foundational wutang projects. I really loved the vibe of it. Honestly I was about to bail on this project before I saw Raekwon show up.

Tea for the Tillerman by Cat Stevens
Oct 03 2023

Better than I thought it would be. I really enjoyed the vibe of the tunes and content of his lyrics. Cat Steven’s seems like a good guy and I’m interested to hear more.

Paranoid by Black Sabbath
Oct 04 2023

Solid. Great vibe. Not too much of anything. Some very surprising moments.

Oct 05 2023

Interesting. Not what I need in my life now, but I have a soft spot for KoRn.

The Number Of The Beast by Iron Maiden
Oct 06 2023

Great album. A few drag moments but the start and finish is strong. I’ve loved this album for a long time, not my favorite IM album but still very enjoyable.

Siamese Dream by The Smashing Pumpkins
Oct 07 2023

Very nostalgic. Fairly enjoyable. I was excited to revisit this one. Wish I could te this generator to stay in this lane for a bit.. oh well, here comes some bullshit. I’ll bet it’s poison or meatloaf. Hoping for a hot one. Give me a gem, five star comin’ up!

Oct 09 2023

4 or so if the worst songs I’ve heard in a long time. Cee Lo’s voice is terrible. Not even timberland can give this a boost. Cee lo green is the Wilco of… something idgaf this stinks. It’s for idiots.

The Soft Bulletin by The Flaming Lips
Oct 10 2023

Had some cool moments. Daily boring. I zoned out a lot.

Paul Simon by Paul Simon
Oct 12 2023

Pleasant and relaxing. Not quite my thing anymore but I’d be happy to listen to ti again some day. I haven’t finished it.

So Much For The City by The Thrills
Oct 15 2023

This is what I was hoping for with 1001 alum generator. This album was neat. Never heard and really enjoyed. Closest thing to Neil young I’ll probably ever care for. “Don’t steal our sun” sounds like it’s off of basement on a hill. Almost does a chino Moreno with the singers voice at times. A hidden track is a funny throw back.

Out Of The Blue by Electric Light Orchestra
Oct 16 2023

Didn’t enjoy this. One song was tolerable. I have a bad feeing about the next album lol

Blunderbuss by Jack White
Oct 17 2023

It was fine. Had some interesting moments. I might revisit.

Scissor Sisters by Scissor Sisters
Oct 18 2023

Not really for me. To parody-of-disco.

The Predator by Ice Cube
Oct 20 2023

Has some cool moments. Def reminds me of a lot. Feels like Dan the Automator is almost in here. I think I get what he was trying to do culturally and I appreciate that. I have a new-found respect for ice cube, even if there are no entire songs I loved. The interlude where ice cube gives an interview is probably my fav part after it was a good day.

With The Beatles by Beatles
Oct 21 2023

Probably not the best Beatles record. It was fine!

OK Computer by Radiohead
Oct 22 2023

I really love this album. It’s been a while since it felt relevant to my life but I’m sure I’ll revisit it many more times.

The Clash by The Clash
Oct 23 2023

Really loved it. I heard its influence in much of the punk I grew up with. Def want to dig further into the clash.

Oct 24 2023

Glad it exists. I get they meant to shock people who needed to be shocked, and they took it to the furthest extremes they could. Some interesting moments, mostly predictable. Ez had a cool voice. I’m impressed with the variety of flow present in this album.

Goo by Sonic Youth
Oct 27 2023

Started ok. Has some cringy parts. Atdi did it better. Last song was pretty cool.

Heavy Weather by Weather Report
Oct 29 2023

Good funk. Some ambient stuff. I liked it! Already had a track from it. Maple got one also for her list.

Hot Rats by Frank Zappa
Oct 31 2023

Really liked it. Reminded me of omar Rodriguez Lopez music a lot of times.

D by White Denim

Fairly unremarkable. Some songs felt intentionally underwhelming.

Ingenue by k.d. lang

Led Zeppelin IV by Led Zeppelin
Nov 16 2023

Let's Stay Together by Al Green
Nov 18 2023

It’s cool. Not my fav by him but I appreciate the guitar work.

You're Living All Over Me by Dinosaur Jr.
Nov 19 2023

Not for me. This guys voice and whining about a girl who doesn’t like him is annoying. Some startling production like a quiet song with someone suddenly moaning at a high volume in the room. Other djr albums I bet I’d enjoy way more.

Either Or by Elliott Smith
Nov 21 2023

I don’t listen to Elliot smith anymore

Songs From The Big Chair by Tears For Fears
