I liked some bits but they’re all over the place. Rock? Funk? Blues? Folk? Last song was too much, and the random organ solos interrupted songs I otherwise thought were okay.
Never quite "got" the Strokes, I see why people do but it just doesn't do it for me for some reason. Never bought the CD or put their songs on playlists, but don't mind listening, just don't seek it out.
Didn’t did the falsetto so much, but really like the back half, have a few new songs on playlists.
Joplin’s singing, 5 stars. The keyboardists that had wayyyy to much input, not so much.
I’ve never been a fan of the core sample used in drum and bass, so this was a harder listen. It was good as background music, but I really struggled to actively listen for some songs, and nothing really caught with me.
Almost made four but the back half got too Jammy. Can totally see the roots of southern rock though.
So many amazing songs, and his sound is so iconic and influential.
I wasn’t expecting to drop 5 stars on this, but I listened to it 3 times today.
Great balls of fire gets this the 2nd star.
Meh plus unoriginal. No idea why this was included, it’s not Jack White’s best work by far.
Great voice and some good sings, but felt pretty dated.
Liked tracks 2 and 3, Tyler’s comments about sing talking were dead on.
Loved the first half, especially the title track. Back end gets a little chaotic but is still fun.
20 year old me would probably have liked this more, some decent stuff but nothing mind blowing.
The intro song I think is really good but really overplayed, and I am suffer from over saturation like Ambika mentioned.
Teenage Riot alone almost earns 5 stars for me. Love the noise.
Too scattered and 70s sounding for me.
Liked Squares but the rest was a disappointment to me.
Stevie made some of the songs tolerable, and there was the occasional interesting music experiment going on, but overall a really hard listen.
Suspicious Minds gets this up to 3, otherwise this just sounds like a parody of itself.
Not sure how original this is, mostly okay and pretty easy to listen too.
I still like Love the One You're With, but the rest of the album was pretty mediocre. I am also suffering from late 60s/early 70s fatigue.
Lots of great songs but some duds and too many interludes. BOB didn’t hit like it used to for me sadly.
Almost made 4 stars for me, but nothing grabbed me quite enough to add to a playlist which is my rubric for 4 stars.
Of course loved Hydne’s voice and I also liked the overall sound and punk-ish influences.
The saxophones or whatever woodwinds got in the way too much. I think it’s an interesting concept but just wasn’t working well with punk yelling for me.
Really like GBV, but they do suffer from being overly experimental at times.
Too drum and bass heavy for my taste. I feel like the second half shows more of his style that is more to my liking, I liked going out of my mind, but the rest was pretty meh.
Kinda dug this a little bit, this is more my speed electronic wise
Was hoping for more out of this, Red Dirt road was pretty good but rest was really tepid.
Really catchy, and deeper than I had assumed. I mainly think if Money For Nothing or Sultans if Swing, and was worried the album was going to be weak, but I enjoyed the whole thing.
I enjoyed this, but it always faded into the background and never actively grabbed me.
Sounded pretty modern at times despite a few bad songs. Not what I expected out of a 1969 folk album in a good way.
Almost a 5 if not for a couple of stinkers at the end.
Dancing Queen and Fernando were okay.
Great voice, just a little too sappy for my taste
That’s right, same as Yes!
I enjoyed it, but no one song quite grabbed me enough for 4 stars.
More of a spoken word album than music. Kinda enjoyed it as mood music.
Really liked her voice but the songs didn’t end up on any of my playlists.
Trite lyrics ruined by excessive vibraphone and weird guitar noodling.
Pretty decent, and good background music.
Between the overplayed nature of some songs, a lot of it not aging super well, and the non-singles being pretty weak I’m surprisingly giving this a low rating.
Pretty self indulgent feeling to me, and nothing in particular grabbed me.
I'm not trying to be a hater, but this album just never has done it for me. My wife is convinced I hate Pearl Jam because I always skip/change the station whenever a song from Ten comes on.
I actually like (and owned) Yield and Vitalogy back in the day, but I don't think I ever had the slightest inclination to buy Ten.
There's just something about Vedder's moaning/warbling on this album that grates me, and I probably wouldn't have such a strong opinion if the songs hadn't been etched into my eardrums for 30 years due to MTV/Alt Rock Radio/Classic Alt radio.
I had to suppress an audible "Ugh" when the Alive intro came on, and skipped half the album because I already know it by heart, despite not being a huge fan. The non-megahit songs are mediocre, and there were no hidden gems for me.
This might have been a 3 star review if I wasn't sick and tired of most of the hits, but there were multiple skips in this one for me.
Some great songs, but not all.
Some interesting bits, but mostly noodly experimental non-songs.
I liked a lot of the guitar, but the high pitched wailing and dumb lyrics spoiled it.
Pretty fun listen, but not anything I’d regularly listen to.
Hard to hear it for what it was in its era, but overall enjoyable.
I knew the couple hits and liked then, but the overall album was pretty weak and disappointing.
This was pretty meh aside from the two singles.
Too far into noise, there were some good parts, but it never managed to be coherent enough for me.
Closer to a 3.5, some catchy songs.
Might be nostalgia, might not, but can listen to this all the way through still.
Didn’t hit quite the same as it did 18 years ago, but still pretty good.
This was really interesting and a unique sound, but had trouble separating it from the Nirvana unplugged songs.
I've got a soft spot for Drug Buddy and It's a Shame about Ray, but overall is meh and feels super dated.
Propped up by Take it Easy and Peaceful Easy Feeling, otherwise this would have been 2 stars.
I have a soft spot for white boy blues, what can I say?
Some of it felt a bit dated and overplayed, but still really enjoyed it. Not quite in 5 star territory for me.
Some good songs watered down with a lot of meh.
Crawling and In The End were tolerable, but the rest was kinda the worst of nu metal white trying to sound harder than they were.
I remember this being better in middle school.
Kinda dug this more than I would have expected, and must've had a Sabbath streak at some point as most of the songs were familiar to me.
Wanted to like this more, but couple of skips in there.
Some decent folk, but nothing really grabbed me.
As someone who listened to a lot of classic rock in HS, this is all pretty well trod and stale for me. Also, 3 dudes from Florida and one from Cali wrote Sweet Home Alabama, so that's minus one star.
Had higher hopes for this, but Solsbury Hill was the only good song on this for me, the rest was meh.
