Sara and Tusk - two of my favorite songs. Otherwise, not much else.
Slightly before my time, so had never heard of them. After two songs, I was ready to listen no longer, but then the next few songs blew me away, and now I've got to look into this band, as well as Buzzcocks.
Literally shocked at how good I thought this was. I remember this group from the late 70s/early 80s, and some relatively catchy weird tunes, but could never get past the weirdness of them. I really enjoyed listening to this and now have to listen to more of their albums.
South California Purples, I'm A Man
Big fan of Bowie, but never really liked this, and obviously just brings sadness as he died soon after it was released. 2.5 stars, but rounded up.
Other than 'Where It's At', I'm not a big fan
Enjoyable, easy to listen to, and a couple of catchy tunes, but nothing that blows me away. 3.5 stars.
Listened to this a lot in my teen years, and still one of my favorites from U2.
Hotel California is my #1 all-time song. The rest of the album is okay. I feel like it should be better.
Great song in 'Shout', and 'Head Over Heels' is a catchy listenable tune. Didn't like 'Everybody Wants to Rule the World' when it was first out, but appreciate it much more these days, and especially as it's an iconic 80s song now that accompanies fun online retro videos/memes.
Sounds like Phish (says the person who's heard 2 or 3 Phish songs). Some catchy tunes. Back at the Farm has a catchy start but doesn't progress into the song I hope for. 2.75 stars rounded up.
Usually depends on my mood what I think of this music. Last night I'd have given 2.5 stars, today it's closer to 4 (better mood, less tired). Gonna give it 4, because if I heard this in a club, I'd be blown away by it.
Some light block rockin' beats....listenable, but nothing I added to my 'Liked' playlist.
A few 2-star reviews sum up my feelings for this. It's not bad, it's just not my thing.
Great tunes, some are way too short.
Some great hits - El Condor Pasa, Cecilia, The Boxer, as well as the title track. Give it a 4 because everything else is meh.
Wading up to the swim-up bar in Cancun to get my 6th Negra Modelo of the morning, this is what's playing.......probably.
Maybe a hair below 4, but some good funky grooves on this album.
Probably 3.5 - lots of very good songs, Send My Love being my favorite.
Never really listened to them too much, but have enjoyed a few of the Punk era albums I've had. This doesn't hold up to them. Prefer PIL, Iggy, or The Fall.
Definitely late 80s European pop/rock sound. Similar to White Lies and Silversun Pickups. Probably give it a 3.5 overall - enjoyed all the songs, and may give it another listen. Magick was a standout.
Outside of Yellow and Trouble, I can't say I liked any of the other songs. Nowhere near as good as 'Rush of Blood to the Head' or 'X&Y'.
Didn't hate this, but also didn't like it. 1.5 stars. I know it's critically acclaimed and all that, but I'm not sure why.
Sounded like the same song over and over. Can't understand why this should be listened to, other than as a warning of how bad R&B can be. Utter rubbish.
Better than expected. Not much of a metal fan, other than the popular mainstream stuff - Iron Man, Paranoid, and War Pigs - but I found a couple of other songs on here that I enjoyed and nothing was unlistenable. 3.25
Never really liked Rush much, but have heard of this album, and after listening to it, my feelings haven't changed. Part of the opening 20+minute was pretty good towards the end, but the rest of the album was much as I expected. I don't like Geddy Lee's voice, and the music seems light - similar to some Police music with the drums. That being said, both Rush and Police drummers are just magnificent drummers. I like Geddy Lee - he is an incredibly interesting person too, which I found out years ago when listening to him discussing baseball and other stuff during an interview. And I appreciate their immense talent. So 2.75 stars rounded up.
Lost in Music is one of my fave songs of the Disco/70s era. We Are Family and He's the Greatest Dancer are also noteworthy songs from then. Very listenable album.
I dunno - just not my thing.
Weird - big fan of their early stuff, but this is a bit different.
See all other 1 and 2 star reviews to sum up how I felt about it. It wasn't unlistenable, but I did FFW through a couple towards the end, hoping for something that I would enjoy. Really thought it was rubbish though. 1.5 stars
Really enjoyed 'Boxcars' - listened to it about 4 times, but rest of the album is your run of the mill honkytonk. 2.5 stars.
Wow - never listened to the complete album, just 'My Name Is'. 25 years later I guess it isn't that shocking compared to other stuff out there....but I guess I was still shocked at some of the lyrics. 2.5
Never listened to much Supertramp outside of their hits, which I've always really liked, esp the ones from Breakfast in America. After listening to this album on the drive in this morning, I'm now halfway through their whole catalogue at the office.
I've liked some punk-era music enough to look into more of it, esp. PIL and The Fall, but this isn't on par with them.
Wasn't a fan of first couple of songs, but kept listening and got better and better. I remember them from mid-90s, but never got into them too much. Gonna go search for more of their stuff. 3.5
First time through I'd have given it 2.25, another listen and a few of the tunes started to grow on me. Still reminds me of early New Order and Book of Love from the 80s - a bit light. 2.75
Closer to 2.5 for me. Never really liked their sound.
Some stand out Beach Boys songs, Wouldn't It Be Nice and God Only Knows esp, as well as Sloop John B, and a couple of others.
Some great stuff, some weird stuff. While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Don't Pass Me By, and Happiness Is A Warm Gun are two standouts. Also enjoy Rocky Raccoon. Listened to this a lot my senior year of high school (1988).
Running Up That Hill will forever remind me of moving back to England in early August 1985. My family was walking around Banbury, looking in the real estate shop windows, and I heard it on the radio as a new release that week. Loved it from that moment on. Hounds of Love and Cloudbusting are also solid hits.
Nothing in this album stood out. Didn't go back to any song to give it another go.
Smooth comfortable background music at the cocktail bar, and something to get up and samba to. The Girl from Ipanema is a classic
Listenable - a couple of standouts. An old work colleague said this was her favorite band, and I didn't know much about their early stuff other than 'Lola', but 'Come Dancing' was a fave of mine in 1983. They seemed like a fun band.
Brings me back to spring 1986, staying at a friends house the night before our morning soccer match (Croughton v Woodbridge) - woke up to this album blasting on his stereo. Scored the only goal in our 1-0 win.
Interesting - raw unpolished punk. Nothing I'd listen to again, but I've heard worse stuff.
I either love his songs or can't stand them, usually. Most of these I couldn't stand. About 2.5 rounded up.
Can't add much to what has already been said about this album.
Always been a fan of 'First of the Gang to Die', but never listened to much Smiths or Morrissey. However, found a couple of other gems in this album. Very impressed.
Some good stuff - not a huge fan of this album, but contains 'There There', one of my top 10-20 songs of all time.
When Doves Cry and Purple Rain are two of my fave songs from the 80s. The Beautiful Ones and Lets Go Crazy are also quality tunes.
Not my thing - though Breaking the Law was good.
Enjoyed this much more than I thought I would. Getting Neil back into my rotation for the year. Easy listening, slow.
Not my thing - never really was. Didn't like 'Smooth Operator' when it was a worldwide hit in the 80s, but appreciate that this is good stuff and would probably love it, if I'm sipping on martinis at a jazz club or something.
Hot and Cold for me. Pump It Up is great and Radio, Radio is iconic. But like most of his stuff, I either love it or don't.
I assume everyone gives this 4 or 5 stars, but I can't say I'm a huge fan of this one. Prefer other Beatles records much more. Abbey Road, Magical Mystery Tour, Revolver probably.
Love this album. Borrowed this cassette from a friend in early 90s and gave it a good listening to. Having just moved to the US from Europe, this was an eye opener, and my first real taste of this type of rap.
Listenable music. Strange how I've never heard of this person, but know of groups influenced by her, partners of hers, etc.
Bought this in late 1997, after seeing Karma Police on VH1 (or MTV?), and hearing all the critical acclaim it was getting. Gave it the usual listen to, without really listening and wasn't super impressed. Mid-late 1998 gave it another listen to, and really was blown away. It has its time and place though - not something I'd listen to while in mood of either extreme. 4.5/5
Wasn't expecting to like this as much as I did. Ended up listening to it all the way through while at work. Smooth.
Man, 30 years old. What a strange time of my life that was - a turning point. I didn't listen to this album much until 1996, when it really seemed to blow up. 'You Oughta Know' was great, and still is - an iconic song from that era. 'Head over Feet' words brings me back to a relationship of that time. 'Wake Up' with the great tune.
Always feel like I really have to immerse myself in the album when I listen to Radiohead. Nothing that really catches my attention when I give it the initial cursory listen to, while out for a walk or driving to work. But then I put it on the headphones and get lost in it. Almost gave this 3 stars, but bumping up to 4 after the second listening today.
Been a while since I've listened to this album all the way through. So good - many catchy songs.
Enjoyed this while on my walk. Love this sound from that era - although there was a weird sound through every fast paced song - like a wobble board or something.
An absolute masterpiece. One of the few vinyl albums that I've added to my collection in the recent vinyl resurgence.
Big fan of their sound. Not their best album, but enjoyable.
Raw.......I Wanna Be Your Dog is just a phenomenal track - could listen to it all day.
Jam band testing out their instruments......not sure what I was listening to.
One of my top albums from the 80s. Part of my soundtrack to Spring 1988 when I graduated high school. An absolute classic.
Never paid much attention to The Cure growing up. I remember not being a fan of 'Let's Go to Bed', 'Love Cats', or some of their lighter sounding stuff. I can't believe I've missed this over the years though - really enjoyed this. Dark, Moody - definitely more my thing, and along the lines of Fascination Street, A Forest, Lullaby.
Man, that was some 1980s sounding rap. Listenable, so I'll give it a 3.
Damn! Almost 25 year anniversary. I can see why people were shocked back then. ' Stan' is pretty tame compared to a lot of the CD.
Growing on me every time I listen to it. Still not up to 4 stars, but 3.75.
It's okay - never got into the grunge stuff that much. Remember hearing this when it was first released and thought it was boring.
Really enjoyed this. Surprised myself.
Bought this CD in 1995 or around then - one of the few US bands I liked during that decade. A few of the songs are good, but really don't appeal to me that much now. Decent album though.
Lotta yelling and every song sounded the same. Limp Bizkit like
Melancholic......closer to 4 than a 3
Never been a fan of The Who and this didn't turn me into one. I appreciate their talent and place in music history, but just not for me.
I dunno what to think of this guy. Weird, but likeable. Much too innovative, creative, and avant-garde for my ears.
Much better than I expected. I already really liked their big hits from this album, which would've given it a 3.....now it's easily a 4
A bit melancholy, but one of my favorite albums.
In 7th grade (1982), I wanted to buy this album, but only had heard 'Come on Eileen', as I lived in the US, where they're considered a 1 hit wonder, and didn't want to splash out $6.99 for an album I might only like one song, even though I knew the band and liked their earlier stuff (having lived in England up until 1982), and loved 'Come on Eileen', so just bought the single instead, which I think ended up skipping and wasn't in great condition, like most 7" singles purchased in the US. Years later I heard the other hits from this album and still regret not buying this back then. Man, I was so stingy with my money. I remember having it in my hand, reading the lyrics of one song on the back of the album cover. I think I bought Pyromania instead.
1987 - junior year high school @ Kaiserslautern (K-town) AB, Germany. Interesting sound from Prince. Became a fan after his Purple Rain album, and enjoyed a couple of these songs, the depressing lead track and 'U Got The Look'
Weird, but I didn't hate it. I like their sound.
Pretty boring sound after their excellent stuff from the 80s, but still enjoyed listening.
Not a fan of their sound but appreciate their talent
Always a fan of many songs on this album, but not having given a full listening to in a few years, I went in expecting 4 stars. But it's held up even better than I remember. Ready to Start, Half-Light, Deep Blue, Sprawl - all great songs. No skips, except Modern Man - which has a weird off-beat that I can't not hear.
Not a Led Zeppelin fan really, but this has a lot of good tracks that I continually hear on the local 'Classic Rock' station over and over and over for the past 30 years. Maybe that's why I'm not a huge fan.
Had never heard of T-Rex until the Power Station cover of 'Get It On' in 1985. I was only 15. Had heard of Slade, Gary Glitter, and other glam rock artists of that era, but wasn't until relatively recently that I realized what a huge part of that scene T-Rex were. Many songs I've heard that I didn't even know where theirs.
One of my favourite albums from the mid 80s. Money for Nothing was a fantastic song, and the video was groundbreaking at the time. The track, Brothers in Arms, still gives me chills and brings me back to the cold war times of the mid-80s.
bought The Model as a single when I was a kid - great tune. Some other good tunes on this, but they were never really my cup of tea. A bit light in sound.
Big fan of Arcade Fire and never listened to this from start to finish - just each song at different times. I don't know why I keep seeing 'boring' or 'pretentious' with some reviews. To each their own, but I think this is excellent.
While not a fan of their sound or David Lee Roth's voice, there's some good songs on here. I'll Wait and Hot for Teacher especially, as well as Panama. Not a fan of Jump, but still brings me back to those carefree middle school days.
