Shout is a great song
must have been incredible live 3/5
3/5 Hard to go back to old school rap lyrics Good beats
Solid all the way through
4.5/5
3/5 solely for I wanna be your dog, would have been substantially lower otherwise
Just a lot of clunkers - United, you don't have to be old to be wise, red white and blue etc Breaking the law is so much better than every other track it's notable. 3/5 for that alone otherwise would be lower
Such incredible bass lines...
Great guitarist but I never want to hear any of these songs again, possible exception for I'll wait which I wouldn't change the station on 3/5 if I could've stripped out the vocals
You only remember the hits, but the hits are good..
Oh it's good
Hey little rich girl a standout, just not a ska person I suppose
Ugh rod stewart isn't my bag Talented musicians playing music I don't really enjoy Wouldn't change the station on "stay with me" I guess?
I had heard the title song in isolation and didn't care for it (rhyming gangster with star??) In context it makes sense Great album
My god it's too long There are moments...the outro to we're not going to take it, pinball wizard...few and far between Much much better live but after more than an hour I don't have the will to go all the way through the live discs too Studio 2 live 3+
Legalize it is possibly my least favorite song on this album, rough start Some lovely moments 3
I should like this more than I do - 80s indie, intricate arrangements, nice voice - just nothing sticks with me. 3?
Might be my first 1 Ages poorly across the board
Songs run longer than needed Easy 4 tho
It's just fine I should probably be really impressed by the production esp. given the time I wouldn't change the station But nothing is moving me
Dark, interesting Probably could be a 5/5 if I gave it enough listens, but on first pass a solid 4
That'll be the day is a bop
Perfect for the background Wasn't an actively unpleasant experience Don't want to listen to again
Open up your fruit cage earbleach please But catchy in places
Incredibly consistent, fantastic, instant classic
Mixed bag, graham coxon is genius
Not smart enough for can Still enjoyed
Fantastic start to finish, great samples, smooth deliveries
Didn't think this would be so rough but I had to skip a few songs halfway through. Genuine moments of greatness (message in a bottle, the little chorus riff of walking on the moon) but everything else is all over the place, songs get repetitive internally, and just in general not my bag 3 but close to a 2
First listen I was at a five, relisten brought back to a strong four. Great drums, great guitar
Adult books is a bop! Like punkier Blondie at first but really all over the place..might improve on many relistens but first impressions are solid
Meat loaf always sounds like he's enjoying himself, but you don't always want to hear a rock musical?
It won't always be the vibe you're looking for but if it is...easy five, this album has been looping for a few hours and I haven't minded one bit
Solid most of the way through, some classic earworms, not really my genre but a good 4
Very very good
Too 80s for today 2 with regret
They're very good at their instruments I just don't like the genre they like to play But I didn't think i would ever give a Steely Dan or Steely Dan-adjacent album more than a two, and here it is at three?
Juvenile, grating, and I just don't enjoy the beastie boys triple-headed rap-every-other-word thing I'm glad they had more fun recording this than I had listening
What can I say, it's a classic for a reason
Whether you're in the market for blatant misogyny (stupid girl, under my thumb) or absolute snore-fests (going home, I am waiting), the Stones have you covered Fuck all the way off
A very long collection of very similar songs Not my bag Reflexively want to rate higher than I actually feel about it because I'm aware of my historical + genre biases But I don't want to hear anything from this album again Dnf after the first verse of Knoxville girl, what the actual fuck
Didn't know what to expect, loved it. Very funny too
Songs are about twice as long as needed But fine?
Always interesting, sometimes not my cup of tea, on balance v. good
She could sing the alphabet and it'd be five stars
Back half of the album hit better than the front half, but did we really need another version of papa was a rolling stone?
They had more fun recording than I had listening Ending with a Bowie cover puts the rest of the album in perspective unflatteringly Probably a lot of fun live
Some interesting sounds Some irritating sounds Mostly fine sounds 2
I got COVID for the first time at a Pulp show and it was undoubtedly worth it
The black keys on release were the saviors of rock and roll if I remember right That doesn't hold up so well, but it's an ok bluesy rock album
What's happening is a great song, eight miles high is an REM song 15 years ahead of its time. Great guitar tone! Rest of the album pretty scattershot, including some of the singles - the fourth measure of "why" just neuters all momentum, feels like self-sabotage 3 but good to hear the influences
We are family is a massive song - and with the incomparable Bernard Edwards of Chic on bass how couldn't it be! - but I have forgotten the rest of the album
The two 7+ minute songs (graveyard train, keep on "chooglin", together approx half the album by length!) keep it from a 5. Hit or miss but when they hit...
Just incredible!!
Ray of light, skin both bangers
Very generic 80s.
What drum speed!
Overly self-indulgent at 1h15? Absolutely. Is Jamaican jerk-off just a terrible song? Absolutely! Do some of the lyrics ("dirty little girl", "social disease") not age so well? Absolutely!! But it's also fantastic stuff, generally
Doesn't sound like anyone else, incredible
