Fuzzy and weird. Does justice to its title, the fuzz pedals are omnipresent and turned up to eleven. Bookended by solid tracks, did not care much for the burger though.
A dark and mellow atmospheric ride. A bit too much similarity between the songs do cause it to be a bit monotonous (is that a real word?) for a whole album stretch. It has it's time and place, but I'll stick to Dylan for my 60's folky stuff for now. Enjoy the lyrics though.
Favorite track: The Stranger Song
I think Prince likes sex.
Favorite Track: Little Red Corvette
Really slick production, particulalry juicy basslines. But quite uneven, and lyrically dodgy overall.
Favorite track: Smooth Criminal
Stable debut from post-nirvana Grohl, historically and culturally significant but not much replay value.
Favorite track: I'll Stick Around
Through the years I have sometimes wondered what the rest of the album sounds like, having only heard Clint Eastwood on the radio while in grammar school. Now I know. Feels more like a collection of rough song sketches than a coherent album. A hard listen for me. Still bopping along to Clint Eastwood tho.
Favorite track: Clint Eastwood
Opening track left me pleasantly surprised, did not expect that sound. Did not get the hype around Bettie and the jets, one of the lower points of the album for me.
Favorite track: Funeral For A Friend / Love Lies Bleeding
One of those albums that I have always been aware of, but never played. As a guitar player, it's an inspiring listen. Dreamy, etheral and drenched in reverb. The sometimes almost proglike compositions are quite enjoyable, the constant (ab)use of falsetto starts to grate after a while however.
Listened to the wrong album by accident, the covers were quite similar. Was about to land them a solid 3, until the reviews mentioned songs that were not on that album. After listening to the actual album, I had a Revelation and dropped two stars. Checking the artist, their third album is considered one of the greatest rock albums of all time, so why are we not listening to that one instead?
Not a huge punk fan, but will always give an extra star for saxophones.
Smooth indeed. Easy listening but does not hold my attention enough for a lasting impression. As always torn between giving reviews for good workmanship vs personal preference.
Favorite track: Smooth Operator
Decided that I did not like Amy Winehouse when this came out while I was a teenager. Can't remember why. Even though I'm tired to death of the singing style this album created, it deserves credit for it's place in time.
As I read in another review on here: I can recognize a nicely made cup of tea, but I still prefer coffee.
Album is a bit to long, got a stale neck from bopping along.
Vera, tear down this wall
The older I get, the less I like The Offspring.
Young me and middle age me do not agree on the value of this album.
Guess I gotta keep em separated.
Starts of real strong but drops off a bit towards the end.
I want to like it. But I don't.
I have a feeling this album will grow on me with more listens. Always extra stars for sax.
Good background noise when working. If I listened to it actively I might have gone bananas.
Can trace some influences on naughties bands to this album. Cool, but not for me.
Sad songs for sad bois.
I am a sad boi
Reggea. It's just not for me. And that's okay.
Inspiring guitar work. Lot of the songs sounds the same during first listen however.
Concept country. I'm here for it.
Sounds like a Ridley Scott movie
"Look, 1000 albums is, like, a lot man. We have to fill it out with something."
Well done, but not for me
Second half smoothed me over.
I see where Prince is coming from.
Vackra varelse, ge mig en bossa!
Getting by quite fine without a maid.
Not made for me. And that is OK.
Five stars for delicious weirdness and production.
Minus points for lyrical content.
Ah, so this what Whiplash was about.
Classic riffs, limited replay value.
Not my favorite band, but one can not deny the raw raw energy of this recording.
Classic hamburger album. Amazing buns, but the patty is so undercooked a skilled vet might still save it.
Props to the bass player, but the lyrical repetition in all the choruses grows tedious real fast.
So that is where all the LSD went.
Easiest listening of my whole year thus far.
I'm sure it was popular back in the day. More or less wallpaper music for me personally though.
The world would be poorer without it.
Four stars for the mamas - two stars for the papas
I fear Jazz. I fear the lack of boundaries.
Slick production, but not for me.
I fear jazz. I fear the lack of boundaries.
Nice soundscapes, but lack of varition grates after a while.
Funky and all. But all the 6 minute repeating rythm section makes me long for prog.
Sounds like the boys had a good time. I did not.
Can definately hear the influence on later bands though.
Easy listening, will return to this.
Music from a simpler time
This album is why I am doing this project, would likely never have stumbeled upon this otherwise.
Whizzy whirry computer goes brrrr KARMA POLICE ARREST THIS MAN brrrrrrr
Party in the front, business in the back.
Well made, but not for me.
I mean, it's purple rain. There are other songs on the album, but there is also purple rain. I don't even like purple. But I like purple rain.
A for effort, B for content.
Never realized why people hate so much on Kiedis until sitting through an entire album of ding dong dang dung.
The hip hop remixes on youtube using the instrumentals are killer though.
The bangers still bang, the rest is kind of grating.
Hip, hop and skip to the next album.
PULL ZE STRINGS!!! PULL ZE STRINGS!!!!
So, 80s reverb drenched production aside, there are some goods songs on here. Drops off significantly towards the end.
Mixed bag of industrial noises and Synthwave origin story. Love it.
I don't listen to hip hop. But hot damn if it ain't refreshing with rap that's not all bang babes get dollas.
Never heard nor heard of before. Which in itself should be regarded as a crime to humanity.
Remember the buzz around PJ Harvey from when I was a kid, but never picked up on it. Sounds great, and now I see where Sahara Hotnights were coming from.
I want to be open minded and be able to listen to any genre, but sometimes it is a real struggle to get through these albums. Can't really give out low scores based on persenal preference however, and it sure sounds well made.
Easy listening, lacking edge
Like a warm blanket of nostalgia wrapping me up in a fiery embrace.
Frankly my dear, it's not for me
Stressed me out a little bit. Maybe higher rating after a few listens.
Shalalala, shananana, bipbopbap.
Hip to the hop to the hippetihop
There was a place in time I would have loved this. Killer album cover tho.
Real pretty, for way too long. Greatly impressed by the recording quality, would never have guessed it was recorded in 72.
Solid rythm section. Not crazy about the G. Man tho, and the album is about 30 minutes too long.
This is the sound of the police.
The great wall of sound. A for effort, love the artwork and the structure of the album. Vauge concept and focus on quantity over quality, along with the extended runtime, drags it down a quite a bit.
Not sure what to expect from the band name, title and album cover. Had premonitions of acid jazz, reggae or brittronica. Nu-metal vibes hit me with surprise. Not at all displeasing. Killer vocals.
It has one good song. One.
Another album by The Kidney Stones rolling by.
Musical ADHD. Crazy in all the good ways.
Inbetween skits are kinda weird yo
Bob Dylans voice has never bothered me, but Chris Martins sticks in my crawl.
If I was Mark Watney and my only available musical option while being stranded on another planet was late seventies disco records, I would walk straight out that airlock and never look back.
Four stars for the sax solo on Born To Run.
