Definitely a foundational album for synth pop coming into the 80s. Very important historically, but not really my kind of sound.
Absolutely incredible experience. This was actually my first time ever listening to a Pink Floyd album. I now understand that psychedelic rock would not be what it is today if it wasn't for them. This album had everything I enjoy when it comes to the genre: a plethora of sounds and instruments with some amazing performances on the guitar. I love it when I hear a noise that I didn't know an instrument could make and I experienced that on this album. The album plays like one big song, which is something I adore. Shine On You Crazy Diamond is literally half the album and I couldn't be happier about it.
A fine funk album, but I've definitely heard better. Shining Star is definitely the best song on the album. The rest of the tracks kind of overstay their welcome; there's too much falsetto throughout and it loses it's luster/charm. I do really enjoy the variety of instruments in this album (marimba, harpsichord/dulcimer?). As a fan of the funk/ genre, I feel like this falls a bit flat for Earth, Wind and Fire.
What a throwback. Listening to all of these tracks makes me think of late 2000s and 10s. Great album to come back to.
What hasn't been said about this album? It's Prince at his finest. Can't get much better than this once-in-a-generation album.
One of the best opening tracks ever. This concept album has been praised by critics and fans alike as one of the greatest hip-hop albums of all time. Hell, one of the greatest albums overall. I personally prefer "good kid, m.A.A.d city" over this, but it's recognition still stands.
The album that defined the 90s and grunge as a genre. Plenty of iconic tracks on this one, but the second half of the album isn't nearly as gripping. Maybe I just don't prefer this kind of big noise, in-your-face style of rock music. Nevertheless, I cannot deny its status in the world of music.
Very fun. Makes for a great porch listen with friends.
Yeah this album sucks dude; there's no way around it. I really thought the guitar could save it, but the lead singer is just so goddamn annoying. There's no cohesion and it doesn't know what it wants to be while simultaneously bringing nothing to the table (other than singing about pissing in the shower). I was just waiting for this one to be over after the first 5 minutes.
Baba O'Riley is such a killer opening track dude. Good few legendary songs on this one. Overall pleasant listen, just short of a 5.
It's a classic for a good reason. No album collection would be complete without it.
It's Jimi Hendrix. Nuf said.
Very theatre coded. It feels like I'm listening to an opera or a movie score. Some nice vocal work on this one, but it's not an album I'd ever come back to. Definitely below average overall and a left-field pick for this list.
This album shook up the entire world of rap. It's corny as hell and was very popular with poor white kids. Eminem is a talented lyricist and an absurd storyteller through his music. Endlessly revolting and shocking, Eminem is the quintessential white rapper. While TSSLP isn't his best work, it's some of his most iconic.
The father of American Folk music. It's a fine album but, like with most folk music, it's 50 minutes of very samey sounding songs. Not too compelling, not awful to listen to. Just fine.
This album was quite experimental, even for a genre like jazz. Charles Mingus is an absolute legend in this genre, so I understand the placement on this list. But this was a little hard to follow and I consider myself a jazz enjoyer.
A little too high brow for my taste. I love poetic expression and experimentation in music, but the vocals got old after the first song. The concepts were difficult to understand with a casual first listen. This sounds like an album/artist that would have a dedicated following of interesting people. Wouldn't pick this up again at all, but the guitar is pretty nice.
It's a weird album, but kinda fun in it's own way. The Kanye sample hit me out of left field.
God damn what an incredible voice. This brought me to tears, as this kind of music makes me think of my family. Amazing personality and performance from the great Sarah Vaughan.
A fine punk album. Very abrasive. Not great, not terrible, just okay.
The album with Everybody Hurts on it. The whole album is definitely very same-y sounding, but it's a good sound. Songs you'd play in a boutique to sell knicks and knacks to middle aged white women
A fine traditional country album. Real folksy and inviting. Like a reminder of a bygone era.
Experimental as always from LCD Soundsystem. Kinda weird, but in an endearing way. This album drags its feet though. Didn't need to be over an hour long.
Kinda boring. I don't like children singing out of tune on my albums, thank you very much.
Who knew elevator music could be so appealing?
Not gonna lie, this album was a nothingburger. Nothing about this one stood out to me. Very soft and repetitive. Just bland all around.
Very close to a five, just a few weak songs here and there. Nina Simone is such a powerful voice and storyteller in her music. Great experience.
"Everyone knows that no means yes."
Yikes. Pretty shit album, close to completely unlistenable. Couldn't finish it.
I thoroughly enjoyed this one. It was definitely all over the place, but in a pleasant and high-energy way. It's like butt rock and ska at the same time. I'm here for stuff like that.
Just didn't like the sound of this one at all. I'm giving it a two because I imagine if you're the right kind of person, you'd love an album like this. I'm not one of those people.
His falsetto sounds like a crying animal and that's the inflection for the entire album. Admit it: you only say you like this album to get with women.
Classic rock jam out session. Makes for great music for gatherings with your bros. Peak fishing music.
Slightly experimental experimental album from rock legends The Police. I would have rated this album higher if not for [Mother] existing. It's a fun time for sure.
Take Five is one of the most well known jazz tunes. It's not surprise that other Dave Brubeck compositions are just as compelling. Great album.
Some good sounds on this one, but the experimentation makes it a little hard to listen to. [Where It's At] will always be a bop though.
Lovely voice for some lovely songs
This feels like the quintessential middle-aged white mom album. She's got a nice voice and an interesting sound. Not great, not terrible.
It's an album used for beats, most notably used by The Pharcyde's "Passin' Me By." It's a chill album, but very barebones.
Classic hip-hop album. Somewhere between a 3 and a 4.
Fun Irish album. Nothing really special past the song everyone knows.
Enjoyable rock record. Definitely set the framework for a lot of different psychedelic sounds after it. Has a nice jam quality about it.
This is distilled 80s rock. Big hair and bigger sounds, 1984 is a quintessential corner piece for anyone wanting to experience the classics. Absolutely crazy guitar riffs across the entire 33 minute run time with memorable hits like "Jump," "Panama," and "Hot for Teacher." Great album.
Kind of slow, very plodding. I personally can't stand "Hallelujah." It's just been played out too much by literally every artist ever. Don't quite care for the tone of this album. The delivery of it's message doesn't resonate with me.
Look, I like classic hip-hop as much as the next guy, but I know shit when I smell it.
I thought it was just okay. This sounds like something that a performative male who smoked weed would listen to in the mid-2000s.
This Christmas album contains the definitive versions of a few classics, like I saw mommy kissing Santa Claus. This could be a very divisive album considering that some people flat out hate Christmas music, but Christmas music always makes me think of my family and all of the good times that I've had with them. A good holiday album.
Eminem's greatest work, all on one album. From "Stan" to "The Real Slim Shady" to "The Way I Am" to "Kim," Eminem changed people's perspective on the rap format by deciding to write songs about more vulnerable aspects about his life. Effortlessly witty and vulgar, Eminem created what many people consider one of the greatest hip-hop albums of the 2000s.
Amazing guitar riffs on this album. This feels like the predecessor to the jam bands of today. However, the lead vocalist is bad. So so so bad. I can't even bring myself to give it a 3 because of how much I hate listening to his vocal inflections. Damn shame too, I really wanted to like this one.
Cigarette mom rock album that is so 2000s it hurts. Think about the interior of a Gloria Jean's Coffee shop in 2003 and you'd get how this album sounds.
I really liked this one. He reminds me a lot of Billy Joel. Has a soft rock vibe to it; Just a dude that can sing well with some catchy tunes.
Real folksy stuff. I could see myself in college being down bad for a girl that is into albums like this one. It's just okay.
It sure is a QOTSA album. Really repetitive riffs, but they're pretty good riffs for rock music. Just have to be in the right headspace and mood to deal with them.
Cool electronic album. Definitely along the lines of Daft Punk, but chill.
Fawn fawn fawn on ta Autobahn. Fawn fawn fawn on ta Autobahn. Fawn fawn fawn on ta Autobahn.
Just a slow, plodding, boring experience. The main singer had a nice voice, but that's pretty much it. Not worth your time or mine.
Definitely sounds like Madonna in the late 90s. Empowered middle aged white woman music, not for me.
ZZ Top is so effortlessly cool, dude. Kinda bluesy rock they'd play at a biker bar or something. I've heard better from them and that's why I'm giving it a 3 instead of a 4.
Great first album by a legendary band. Definitely sets them up for success on their later works. I expect Demon Days and Plastic Beach to show up on this list later on. I prefer both of those albums over this one, but it's still good work.
My second favorite Kanye album. This is one of his most divisive works. I can see why; the entire album is in-your-face, loud, noisy and arrogant. But there's just something about that noise, those beats, that i-don't-give-a-single-fuck-i'm-kanye-motherfucking-west attitude giving the album a sense of character only Kanye can give.
It's a manic episode in experimental rap form and I absolutely love it to death. One of my favorite albums of all time.
What a treat of a folk album. Makes me think about "O Brother, Where Art Thou?". I had a lot of fun listening to these timeless tracks.
Super cool rock album. Sultans is an all-time classic track. The guitar work is phenomenal throughout the entire run time. Just a chill time, man. Far out.
