Wow. I can't believe with how obsessed I've been w greta van fleet I didn't look closer into their predecessors. This album was amazing beginning to end.
I just earlier today watched a video about the movie Sinners and I couldn't help but be reminded of the music in that movie during my listen through. Especially the song Mississippi Kid. It really puts into perspective where we get the roots from a lot of our modern music, and how few of their descendants are at the forefront of the popularity of the genre. I'm trying too hard to say it in poetic ways, but what I'm trying to say is that lynyrd skynyrd's sound, at least on this album, is very much borrowed from black people. And I can't help but notice everyone in the band is white. It makes my feelings while listening a little complicated.
But this album was definitely a good experience, and I will be adding some songs to my playlist for sure.
After more listens, I can confidently say I am a fan of this album.
This is bringing back memories from when I was in my school's jazz band one year. I'm obsessed w the way each instrument is used. It's just so classic jazz. I love it sm.
My favorite part of the album was definitely the instrumentation - the horns, the bass guitar, and how they're all used. I very much enjoyed this album.
Ofc I'd heard all the iconic songs on this album before, but I really loved the other songs I'd never heard before. The opening song was especially cool. This was a very good listening experience.
This was hard for me to get through. I just really did not like his voice and singing style. I like the vibes of the music though. And the harmonica was fun.
I absolutely loved this album. The vibes were so good, and I actually feel like I heard the message he was portraying in the album.
I first tried to listen to this album a few years ago bc I youtuber I liked said it was one of their all time favorite albums. And I just really didn't get it.
Idk what it was that changed since then, but I absolutely loved every second of this album as I listened to it today. I can see this becoming an album I listen to on the regular.
I have mixed feelings about this album. I really like the instrumentation, like the drums, guitar, and bass. But I couldn't decide how I felt about the singing.
It kind of reminded me of Scott Pilgrim vs the World.
Very clearly greta van fleet's predecessors. Genre defining. But also it somehow feels more experimental the greta van fleet's stuff? Very interesting. Overall pretty good.
This was incredibly boring for me. Maybe it was just my headspace when listening, but I really was not enjoying this much at all. It felt like a chore to get through. There were a couple tracks I did enjoy a bit.
This was an amazing album. I enjoyed every moment.
Pretty good! I enjoyed it
I actually liked this album more than the first one. I don't know what was different, maybe I was just more into the vibe this time? In the right headspace?
Also, I think I'm gonna still rate this 3 stars, but I wish I could do half stars, bc I'd actually give it a 3.5 if I could.
Really not my favorite. I'd start kinda liking a track and then it'd just keep repeating the same strain and I'd get annoyed with it again.
I really like how they use different time signatures than is normal to use in your basic popular music. The 5/8 was really fun in get to you and tribal gathering. I should listen to the album again to try to find other times they use funky time signatures.
Such a banger of an albummmm. I absolutely loved it, and not just because I had a Stevie Wonder obsession as a kid. Every track is just perfection. Love love love.
Not a fan of the talk singing, unfortunately. The music was fine, good even. Sometimes the way he was singing reminded me of over the garden wall, which was nice.
Not a fan. The instrumentation was fine. But the singing was just so so bad, especially when they decide to sing falsetto. Terrible listening experience.
