Popular Reviews

3 Feet High and Rising by De La Soul

A fun record. After awhile the beat got a little too repetitive. Old school hip hop

1-Star Albums (24)

All Ratings (173)

The Atomic Mr Basie by Count Basie & His Orchestra
Feb 04 2026

Nice Big Band vibe. Considering it was recorded at the dawn of the HiFi era sound is remarkably clear and crisp

Time Out by The Dave Brubeck Quartet
Feb 05 2026

Classic Jazz standard. The time signature changes in the title song seems to have inspired future generations or Progressive rock and jazz fusion groups

The Number Of The Beast by Iron Maiden
Feb 06 2026

Didn't much care for it back when it was new but I'll give it another start after a good listen. It def rocks

Blue Lines by Massive Attack
Feb 08 2026

Interesting. Not sure how to classify it. Not a bad listen but a little too bass heavy, takes away from the other instruments and vocals

Headquarters by The Monkees
Feb 09 2026

When I was in elementary school the Monkees were the thing. The show, the 1st few albums, the singles were all over the radio. Kinda started my musical journey. Anyway in hindsight I now know the Monkees were a made up band with studio musicians playing other peoples songs. This album wasn't up to the original Monkees that I remember from my youth.

Astral Weeks by Van Morrison
Feb 11 2026

When it first came out I really didn't like it. Thought it a difficult listen. Hearing it now it's a little easier on the ears but I still find his vocalizations sleep inducing.

Queen II by Queen
Feb 14 2026

One of my favorite Queen Albums. Loved the sides labeled white and black. Very hard rock for queen. Queen was learning how to use a studio as an instrument. Best to listen thru headphones.

Bluesbreakers by John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers
Feb 15 2026

Knew this as the Beano album back in the day. Always a fun listen.

Feb 18 2026

My father was a huge county music fan so I heard the originals of most of these songs but these fully orchestrated versions are on another level.

Heartbreaker by Ryan Adams
Feb 19 2026

Reminds me of early Dylan.

The New Tango by Astor Piazzolla
Feb 20 2026

A nice album if you want something low playing in the background. Nice live performance

Rio by Duran Duran
Feb 21 2026

I was working in a record store when this album came out, it was played constantly so listening again brought back old memories. That being said it's not an album the I have downloaded.

Dry by PJ Harvey
Feb 22 2026

Not her best album but very good. She is a local from where I come from and use to see her live frequently. Great live show

Djam Leelii by Baaba Maal
Feb 23 2026

Even if I could understand the lyrics, the music is repetitive beats and no dynamics.

Pearl by Janis Joplin
Feb 24 2026

An album I owned. It's a shame she died so young.

Beyond Skin by Nitin Sawhney
Feb 25 2026

Didn't know what to expect but wasn't expecting much but was pleasantly surprised. Interesting vocals, rhythms, and lyrics.

Off The Wall by Michael Jackson
Feb 26 2026

I think the best MJ album. I actually have a download of this.

Feb 28 2026

One of my friends, favorite group, never did get it, though, when your best song is girlfriend in a coma that should be enough

Life Thru A Lens by Robbie Williams
Mar 01 2026

Never heard or Robbie Williams but enjoyed this record.

Space Ritual by Hawkwind
Mar 02 2026

I really don't like jam bands. I couldn't finish this.

Heroes by David Bowie
Mar 03 2026

Not Bowie's best. Not even in the top 10.

Soul Mining by The The
Mar 04 2026

Typical fun early 80's synth pop.

Scott 2 by Scott Walker
Mar 05 2026

This a strange album. Think of 40's crooners singing Zappa.

Mar 06 2026

As a concept album, kind of weak, but as a collection of songs that were ahead of their time, one of the best albums made. The first two track, a brilliant opening to the concept but nothing else until The next to last track. Lucy in the Sky was one of my favorite songs way back when. Getting Better, Fixing and Hole and Mr Kite could be considered fillers except the vocal techniques and studio as another instrument make them great. She's Leaving Home is like good literature packed in to 3 1/2 minutes. When side two opens with Within You it sounds like nothing ever heard. When I'm 64, Lovely Rita are again exceptional story telling. When I was young a progressive FM station started every morning with Good Morning. It was fantastic. A day in the Life is another great song as literature. Add one of the coolest album jackets in history and this is the watershed album of the 60's.

The Hangman's Beautiful Daughter by The Incredible String Band
Mar 09 2026

I remember the folk music scare from the late 60's. The crap almost caught on. Anyway this was a difficult listen and I'll admit to listening thru maybe half a song before I skipped ahead.

Eagles by Eagles
Mar 10 2026

The album starts with some of the best two songs of the 70's. Then fizzles with a bunch of filler until the song Best of My Love. Friends of mine loved this record. I couldn't get into it after the first songs. The Eagles would have so many better albums.

Devotional Songs by Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan
Mar 11 2026

Apparently this is the Elvis of Pakistan. The man can sing but without lyric translations it was a difficult listen.

Moving Pictures by Rush
Mar 12 2026

An excellent example of Progresive rock that leans heavier on the rock side. Some of the best drumming ever put down on a record.

Among The Living by Anthrax
Mar 13 2026

A little partial because I've seen them twice in concert at M3. If you like real heavy metal music you'll love this. I've never been a huge metal fan and this album doesn't capture their live energy but it's decent

Disraeli Gears by Cream
Mar 14 2026

One of the better late 60's albums. A shame they had such a brief run. The album had some filler but mostly great songs.

All Things Must Pass by George Harrison
Mar 15 2026

Heard this album many times over the years. Some of the songs are fantastic. Some are ok at best. It would have made a great single album and as a matter of fact me and many of my friends did a self edit when we recorded it onto cassette tape. Making it a single album or good songs.

Entertainment by Gang Of Four
Mar 16 2026

What a fun album. Punk you could dance too.

Grace by Jeff Buckley
Mar 17 2026

One on the better albums from the 90s. A shame he passed away before he could make more music.

We're Only In It For The Money by The Mothers Of Invention
Mar 18 2026

The best of the Mothers albums and one of the best Zappa albums. This album parodies everything and that's part of the fun

Maggot Brain by Funkadelic
Mar 19 2026

Once you get past the overly long awful title song it got more interesting

Back To Black by Amy Winehouse
Mar 20 2026

Been a while since I heard this album and I forgot how good it was. A amazing voice gone too soon.

Illinois by Sufjan Stevens
Mar 21 2026

I think this is one of the finest records to come out in the past 25 years.

Play by Moby
Mar 22 2026

Eclectic and and easy listen, lots of good hooks

Daydream Nation by Sonic Youth
Mar 23 2026

I know at the time it was released it was considered ground breaking. I've never been a punk rock fan and this is awful

Mar 24 2026

This was the first Queen album I ever heard. Turned me on to them but I always listened to other albums from them when I needed a fix. Been a while since I heard it and it was just as good as remember.

Arular by M.I.A.
Mar 25 2026

Listened to this on a spin bike and great music for that, got the heart pumping. Fun record

Mar 26 2026

I would call this more garage rock, then punk rock but boy was there a lot of songs on this album overall not horrible

Brown Sugar by D'Angelo
Mar 27 2026

Not a good listen, the overwhelming bass hid any traces of decent vocal arrangement and the droning rhythm didn't help

Catch A Fire by Bob Marley & The Wailers
Mar 28 2026

This is the first non-compilation album I've ever listened too by Bob Marley, I had a couple of greatest hits records. Very good.

Heaux Tales by Jazmine Sullivan
Mar 29 2026

Some songs were ok, others not so much.

Buffalo Springfield Again by Buffalo Springfield
Mar 30 2026

Good album. The forefathers of the California country rock sound. Lots of talented members of this group

Berlin by Lou Reed
Apr 01 2026

I'm was never a Lou Reed fan and an album about drug addition just a turn off.

Station To Station by David Bowie
Apr 02 2026

A good Bowie album. Not his best but still good.

Eliminator by ZZ Top
Apr 04 2026

Slick production and clever videos propelled this album back in the MTV days and the songs are pretty good. The music does wear on you after awhile. Although this isn't part of the review there are one of the worst band to see live.

Halcyon Digest by Deerhunter
Apr 05 2026

Ok, I little sleep inducing, be a good album to play for insomniacs.

Nebraska by Bruce Springsteen
Apr 07 2026

Always liked this album. Not his best by a long shot but good

What's Going On by Marvin Gaye
Apr 09 2026

1971 was the best year in music IMHO and this album was one of many excellent albums released that year. The music flows from one some to another, the lyrics strong. A wonderful album

The ArchAndroid by Janelle Monáe
Apr 10 2026

I've never heard her music, only seen her acting, and was pleasantly surprised. I enjoyed this album.

The Grand Tour by George Jones
Apr 12 2026

Back when I was a kid, my dad loved George Jones, I think he owned every record of his. I did not like him or any country music, I was rock and roll or nothing. Listening now it's a little easier on the ears and maybe it nostalgia talking that gives this 3 stars

Machine Head by Deep Purple
Apr 13 2026

If you want know how Heavy Metal started, this record is the answer. I think this album was the most borrowed/ recorded among my friends

Abraxas by Santana
Apr 14 2026

When this album came out there was nothing that sounded like it. I was attracted to it because as a drummer, I loved anything with percussion and the album is loaded with it

Mothership Connection by Parliament
Apr 15 2026

Never heard this album before and listened to it while on a spin bike and really enjoyed it. It was fun and weird sounded good in headphones

Aja by Steely Dan
Apr 16 2026

Probably the best engineered and best sounding analog recordings ever made. It was always used to audition new speakers or other equipment. Great songs too

Clube Da Esquina by Milton Nascimento
Apr 17 2026

Not sure what he was singing, but he sang it very well.

A Seat at the Table by Solange
Apr 19 2026

Music was meh but I gave her an extra star for beating up JayZ

The Queen Is Dead by The Smiths
Apr 20 2026

Never a big Smiths fan. Lots of friends loved them but couldn't get into them. A couple good songs and that's it. Still this is their best album.

Hot Buttered Soul by Isaac Hayes
Apr 21 2026

Ok is the best way to describe it. I was expecting something as ground breaking as Marvin Gaye What's Going On but this ain't that

War by U2
Apr 22 2026

I didn't care much for this album when it was released. Worked in a record store and maybe it was overplayed or my tastes were different. Listening to it now I see I was wrong. It's a very good album.

Ramones by Ramones
Apr 23 2026

I guess this was fresh and raw back in the 60's but all of it sounds the same to me. Never been a Ramones fan and a fresh listen hasn't changed that.

Raw Like Sushi by Neneh Cherry
Apr 24 2026

A fun listen, typical late 80's.

Doggystyle by Snoop Dogg
Apr 25 2026

I like Snoop Dog as a personality but never head any of his albums. I was really hoping this would be good but aside from a few catchy hooks, the lyrics are just god awful. What a disappointment.

Hail To the Thief by Radiohead
Apr 26 2026

Not sure why this Radiohead album was chosen to be on this list. OK Computer was probably the best album released in the past 30 years. Kid A was almost as good. This was a difficult listen.

Metal Box by Public Image Ltd.
Apr 27 2026

Again I've never been a fan of punk rock. I have heard some later Public Image songs I liked but there are none on this record

Tank Battles by Dagmar Krause
Apr 29 2026

Weirdly interesting in places. The songs were mercifully short but there was a lot of them. The cabaret style and calling it Tank Battles conjured up visions of Nazis all grooving to this. Not a good look and I'd give 1 and half stars if I could

Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
Apr 30 2026

This is a perfectly fine album but an old friend had the album and wanted a recording of it, I made a cassette of it and every where we went she played the tape. To say I got sick of it is an understatement. This fresh listen decades later didn't soften me up.

The Gershwin Songbook by Ella Fitzgerald
May 01 2026

Great singer and the album was nice background music for inside activities but it is overly long. Still not bad.

Dusty In Memphis by Dusty Springfield
May 02 2026

This album and Dusty were underrated at the time. Both were very good.

My Aim Is True by Elvis Costello
May 03 2026

A great debut album but not his best album (Spike). An extra star for going on SNL and getting banned for not playing what the record company wanted to him to play. Watching Loren Michaels giving him the finger in live TV was worth it.

Talking Book by Stevie Wonder
May 04 2026

It's easy to forget how brilliant Stevie Wonder is. This record is a great example. Just the production alone sounds like it was made with today's digital tech and not early 70s analog.

Bad by Michael Jackson
May 05 2026

Of his big three albums (Off the Wall, Thriller) this is probably his weakest. He also went weird during this period. Too much plastic surgery and of course the elephant in the room, the allegations. So while it's not really that bad with many good songs, hard to give it above 2 stars

1984 by Van Halen
May 06 2026

I remember not being as terrible impressed with this album as many of my friends. But later listens have given me a better appreciation of it.

Live At Leeds by The Who
May 07 2026

One of the best live albums ever made. The Who rocked like few others in the 60s and 70's.

In Rainbows by Radiohead
May 09 2026

Better than I thought. Still not as good as past Radiohead

May 10 2026

When this record came out it was so over hyped, won all awards and I thought is it was ok. After many years of hearing the songs and a fresh listen to the entire album, I see what all the hype was about. It's probably on of the best albums to come out in the late 1980's

The Dreaming by Kate Bush
May 11 2026

No such thing as a bad Kate Bush album. Was working in a record store when this album came out. It was different from anything else. Her later albums only got better.

Madman Across The Water by Elton John
May 12 2026

Not one of Elton's Best. Some say it was his foray into Progressive Rock. It was not. I'd give it 2 1/5 starts if I could

Very by Pet Shop Boys
May 13 2026

Ok enough. Kinda average

The Specials by The Specials
May 14 2026

They are special. Typical One Hit Wonders, album is bouncy but Kara remarked that all the songs sound the same. She isn't wrong.

Duck Rock by Malcolm McLaren
May 15 2026

I enjoyed this eclectic mix. Never heard of him or this album but it was different enough to keep me interested.

Morrison Hotel by The Doors
May 16 2026

Never been a Doors fan and after listening anew I'm still not. I think the soundtrack in hell is Jim Morrison singing "I woke up this morning and had myself a beer" over and over

Elephant Mountain by The Youngbloods
May 17 2026

Typical lost in the British Invasion mid sixties band. Good band overshadowed by their peers.

Tical by Method Man
May 18 2026

I have never been a fan of hard core Rap Music and this album did nothing to change that. A shame I can't give it 1/2 star

Rumours by Fleetwood Mac
May 19 2026

One of the best albums of the 70's with one of the best back stories in rock history.

Nilsson Schmilsson by Harry Nilsson
May 20 2026

Another excellent album from the best year in music, 1971. I played the song Jump Into the Fire so often and so loud that it's a wonder my parents didn't throw my radio into the fire

Fly Or Die by N.E.R.D
May 21 2026

Not bad. The music better than the lyrics.

Exile On Main Street by The Rolling Stones
May 22 2026

The Rolling Stones have had many excellent songs over the decades but their albums always seem to have only one or two of these tracks on them. The rest is just filler. And not very good filler at that. Compared to the Beatles, there albums seem to be loaded with killer songs, is why the Stones alway seem to pale by comparison.

Funeral by Arcade Fire
May 23 2026

Meh, nothing memorable at all. I think Arcade Fire are one of the most over rated recent bands

Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd
May 25 2026

Lots of people were disappointed when this record came out after Dark Side of the Moon. I was not one of those people. I loved it. Still listen to it on occasion. It's even better when you learn the back story.

At Mister Kelly's by Sarah Vaughan
May 27 2026

Love Sarah Vaughan's voice and this is a very nice live performance recording for 1957 but it's good music for background or to unwind but she does have better records.

Can't Buy A Thrill by Steely Dan
May 28 2026

One of the better debut albums of the 70's but probably Steely Dan's weakest album

Crosby, Stills & Nash by Crosby, Stills & Nash
May 29 2026

One of the first supergroups in rock and even better after Neil Young joined. Some of the best vocal harmonies you'll hear on a record. Excellent songs too.

Dirt by Alice In Chains
May 30 2026

One of the better recent heavy metal groups.

21 by Adele
May 31 2026

This was much better than I was expecting. I understand why it sold a zillion copies and earned a ton of Grammys

Lady Soul by Aretha Franklin
Jun 01 2026

Talk about belting it out. There was a reason she was called the queen of soul

Is This It by The Strokes
Jun 02 2026

Fun good time album. One of the better records to come out in the early 2000's

Horses by Patti Smith
Jun 03 2026

Never a fan of the NYC art rock scene but I figure I listen to this anew and I tried to get through it long ago and could not. Still can't.

Roger the Engineer by The Yardbirds
Jun 04 2026

Some excellent musicians on the album. A shame the songs aren't better and I've never been a Blues fan

It's Blitz! by Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Jun 05 2026

A fun listen.

Frank by Amy Winehouse
Jun 06 2026

She could really sing.

Brutal Youth by Elvis Costello
Jun 07 2026

Later Costello is ok but not as good as early Costello.

Crime Of The Century by Supertramp
Jun 08 2026

I wore this record out when it first came out. There was nothing in music at the time that sounded like Supertramp. The fact the it sound quality was so good compared to other albums at the time was a bonus.

Court And Spark by Joni Mitchell
Jun 09 2026

I've heard of this album but never really listened until today. The songs are so familiar and she has one of the most distinctive voices. A great album.

British Steel by Judas Priest
Jun 10 2026

One of the better heavy metal albums and a great group live. Good driving music if you want a speeding ticket

OK by Talvin Singh
Jun 11 2026

Interesting polyrhythms but something unsettling about Indian vocals and strange off key intonations.

Justified by Justin Timberlake
Jun 12 2026

Have never heard an album by him before. Only his hit songs. Not bad, he does know how to craft a song.

Songs From The Big Chair by Tears For Fears
Jun 13 2026

This album was a big deal mid 80's. Still good but hasn't aged a well as others.

Raw Power by The Stooges
Jun 14 2026

I am not a fan of punk rock and this is the band that apparently started in all in the US. A terrible listen.

Jazz Samba by Stan Getz
Jun 16 2026

Pleasant enough old jazz and mercifully short

The Slim Shady LP by Eminem
Jun 17 2026

Liked this when it came out but it hasn't aged well.

Let It Be by The Replacements
Jun 19 2026

They had one really good song that starts this album off. And that's it

Heaven Or Las Vegas by Cocteau Twins
Jun 20 2026

They are a better band than this record. They sound so much better in person

Post Orgasmic Chill by Skunk Anansie
Jun 21 2026

I've never heard this group or this record before, and probably for a good reason it was just OK

Jun 22 2026

First time I head this thought it was interesting. It hasn't aged well as a record but it seems more like a historical piece.

xx by The xx
Jun 24 2026

It was ok. Kinda slow

C'est Chic by CHIC
Jun 25 2026

Fun record. Good for a live record. I give it an extra star because on of the best concerts I've ever seen was Nile Rogers and Chic

Safe As Milk by Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band
Jun 26 2026

Weird and odd. Not as clever as Zappa's music who produced and influenced much of music. A difficult listen

Bat Out Of Hell by Meat Loaf
Jun 27 2026

Heard many of the songs on this record but first time listening to the entire album. It was decent but the sound/ production quality is horrible so I'm subtracting a star

I’m a Lonesome Fugitive by Merle Haggard
Jun 28 2026

This is the music my father played when I was young. I loathed most of it. This isn't as bad as I remember but it could be the nostalgia factor.

Harvest by Neil Young
Jun 29 2026

Very good album. Starts a little slow then turns into some of the best songs written in the early 70's

3 Feet High and Rising by De La Soul
Jun 30 2026

A fun record. After awhile the beat got a little too repetitive. Old school hip hop

Led Zeppelin II by Led Zeppelin
Jul 01 2026

When Zeppelin rocks, no one better. Unfortunately on this record and thier other early stuff they still thought of themselves as a blues group. Those songs really drag down this album.

Dummy by Portishead
Jul 02 2026

A new one for me, never heard of the group or the recorded. Spacey and interesting

Ready To Die by The Notorious B.I.G.
Jul 04 2026

I really can't get into rap. A shame because the rhythms and beats are so innovative. Just get shut off by the lyrics.

Pet Sounds by The Beach Boys
Jul 05 2026

One of the best American albums ever recorded. Apparently this record influenced the Beatles best albums that how good it is

Ten by Pearl Jam
Jul 06 2026

When this album came out it wasn't really what I was into at the time. A shame because this record is very good.

Buena Vista Social Club by Buena Vista Social Club
Jul 07 2026

Not sure if living in Southern California has giving me a new appreciation but really enjoyed this lively album.

Reign In Blood by Slayer
Jul 10 2026

Saw them in concert at M3. They were loud and distorted. The album is a little better as I can adjust the volume. I know this band was a favorite of my metal-head friends but it all sounds alike to me

Get Behind Me Satan by The White Stripes
Jul 11 2026

First complete white stripes album I've heard and it's very good

It's Too Late to Stop Now by Van Morrison
Jul 12 2026

Van Morrison was always sort of an odd bird. Hard to fit into any one category. That said his live album was very good.

Lost In The Dream by The War On Drugs
Jul 14 2026

Kinda sounds like many other artists from this time , nothing memorable a good background listen

Jul 16 2026

My dad owned this record and one of the few I could listen to way back when. A fresh listen makes me appreciate it even more. A great album to listen to when riding thru the western landscapes

Porcupine by Echo And The Bunnymen
Jul 17 2026

When they came out they had a unique sound. It sounds kinda generic now

On The Beach by Neil Young
Jul 18 2026

What a boring album. I thought with a title like On the Beach it would be upbeat, fun. It was not

Behaviour by Pet Shop Boys
Jul 19 2026

Not the best album by them but not bad, their sound can get a bit tiresome at times.

Jul 20 2026

Brian Eno has produced and performed on some excellent records. This is not one of them.

Jul 21 2026

Lots of albums are said to be groundbreaking. None of them are as groundbreaking as this one. Everything from production quality to atmosphere to being unlike anything that's come before, this record is amazing

Chelsea Girl by Nico
Jul 22 2026

Many thought Nico didn't get the following she deserves. I disagree. This album was boring and sounded flat

Talking Heads 77 by Talking Heads
Jul 23 2026

Even though it's got a lot of filler because of Psycho Killer it deserves to be on this list. I give it an extra star because David Byrne went to my high school and grew up near me.

Jul 24 2026

Ugh, I really dislike hardcore rap. This did nothing to change my opinion only reinforces it

The Yes Album by Yes
Jul 25 2026

One of my favorite all time albums. This is the one Yes album that rocks.

Slanted And Enchanted by Pavement
Jul 26 2026

Never heard of Pavement before. Not horrible but a little too punk for me

Rock Bottom by Robert Wyatt
Jul 27 2026

Never heard of this guy and probably for for a good reason. Not sure of his claim to fame but it want music

Hotel California by Eagles
