Mothership Connection by Parliament
Apr 24 2026

Never heard of it. Wasn’t expecting a funk jazz disco type record but I enjoyed it. I rate it like 3.5/5 but I have to be somewhat harsh or I’ll end up with a million 4s. It’s a 7/10 but 3/5.

Jazz Samba by Stan Getz
Apr 26 2026

Jazz... starts off like being in a lift. Carries on that way. Nice work on the instruments, but it's just not music to listen to, it's music to happen in the background whilst you're doing something else, maybe in the sun. 2/5, but I don't hate it.

Apr 27 2026

One I feel I'm more familiar with, but I've only heard a couple of the songs already. I'm listening to the Dolby Atmos mix/remaster so perhaps has more "features" than the original mix but obviously essentially the same. The songs are fine I guess, all decent and fine. 2/5.

Back To Black by Amy Winehouse
Apr 28 2026

Not looking forward to it to be honest. Let's see. I already know at least 4 songs on it and I'm not a big fan. I was wrong, Rehab I'm not a fan but the others are good. Really enjoyed overall. 4/5.

Apr 29 2026

Everyone knows the opener to this one, a banger. 28 mins is very short indeed for an album. Let’s see what the rest brings. Not as good as expected or hoped, maybe I just don’t like this kind of punk. I hadn’t noticed it finished. 3/5.

Ace of Spades by Motörhead
Apr 30 2026

Ace of spades (song) has always put me off listening to any other Motörhead music. Not a fan of the voice. However, after beginning with that song, ALL of the rest better than it. Easy 4/5.

There's A Riot Goin' On by Sly & The Family Stone
May 01 2026

What on Earth even is this? Don’t even know what genre it is. Let’s give it a go, I’m here to learn. I’m sorry man but this is so boring. I really did not enjoy listening to this at all. What the hell is the yodelling? I have to give it a 1/5, I hear basically no redeeming parts or standout tracks or any highlights at all.

Ready To Die by The Notorious B.I.G.
May 02 2026

Class just class. Juicyyyy. 5/5. The first one.

Shalimar by Rahul Dev Burman
May 03 2026

How in the arse am I supposed to rate this?? It's entertaining to be fair. I guess 3/5 is fair.

Fisherman's Blues by The Waterboys
May 04 2026

This is good stuff. I'd never heard of, or didn't recognise this band to begin with, but everyone has heard Whole of the Moon. That song isn't on this album though. I am enjoying the tunes and I'm heading towards a 4/5 so far. Some of the songs are maybe a bit too long and start outstaying their welcome, but not hugely.

We Are Family by Sister Sledge
May 05 2026

Hmm disco. Not sure. Let’s see. Saw them live once and it was fun. First half I was thinking four, second half three. It's a real 3 and a half but I'm going to have to go 3/5.

The Coral by The Coral
May 06 2026

One of the bands from my youth, so I know I'll enjoy it. Really good stuff all the way through this (short) album, really enjoying it as expected. 4/5.

Cut by The Slits
May 07 2026

Never heard of it, interesting cover...

The Wall by Pink Floyd
May 08 2026

A classic innit. Maybe disingenuous to give it a 5, but I wanted to. 4/5 in the end. Would be nine of ten.

Fulfillingness' First Finale by Stevie Wonder
May 09 2026

What a great record. I’d never heard of any of the songs, but in parts it’s really beautiful and others really funky and fun. Easy 5/5.

Broken English by Marianne Faithfull
May 10 2026

Really enjoyed this one, really exceptional opening and closing tracks. 4/5.

Parachutes by Coldplay
May 11 2026

First album I've actually listened to in full before this challenge. Very cool to hate Coldplay but this album and Rush of Blood are straight bangers. 5/5.

May 12 2026

What a voice, not heard much from her before but how can I argue against this? Great stuff, real voice, real soul. I can’t give it five, it’s just not really my style. 4/5.

#1 Record by Big Star
May 13 2026

Didn’t really like it to be honest, sorry guys.

May 14 2026

This sounds like it might be experimental, don’t mind that. Pioneer of ambient eh. I enjoyed it more than I guessed but it really wasn’t like I expected. Some really cool songs and can see how it was groundbreaking. 4/5.

May 15 2026

Didn’t realise early Genesis was so prog tbh. Probably the best prog album I can remember listening to. I gave Floyd a four for The Wall, I’d rate this higher but not five. 4/5.

Be by Common
May 16 2026

Really enjoyed it, Kanye influence is obvious on this record. Tight rapping, good lyrics, fun songs, some really good music and sampling. Not the heights of the rap greats but a really good four. 4/5.

Pieces Of The Sky by Emmylou Harris
May 17 2026

Country music is not usually my thing, I promise. 4/5.

It's Too Late to Stop Now by Van Morrison
May 18 2026

I think there's been a festival of fours recently, but I guess I can't help that. 4/5.

Born In The U.S.A. by Bruce Springsteen
May 19 2026

Familiar with some of this of course. Not sure if I'm a bit tired of Bruce. Nah, it's undeniably a good album. 4/5.

Only By The Night by Kings of Leon
May 20 2026

Ugh. I'll give it a chance I guess. I hate Sex on Fire. I hate Use Somebody. I haven't heard the rest. Some good songs but some real stinkers too, and I don't like his voice at all. 2/5.

69 Love Songs by The Magnetic Fields
May 21 2026

3 hours… jeez. Got to try and fit it in somewhere. I think it’s always a bad sign when you’re wondering how long is left when you’re halfway through. It’s just a bit flat and I hate the word but it’s a bit boring. I appreciate the scale and ambition but I couldn't be bothered finishing it. 2/5.

The Hangman's Beautiful Daughter by The Incredible String Band
May 22 2026

Ahhh… drugs. Drugs and Jesus-y psychedelic folk. It was okay honestly. Two harsh and three generous. 2/5.

May 23 2026

Jazz isn’t my thing but I feel it’s unfair to be harsh on it. The playing is really great I just don’t think it sounds good. Giving a three based mostly on the technicality. 3/5.

The Atomic Mr Basie by Count Basie & His Orchestra
May 24 2026

More jazz. What can I say? I appreciate the playing is technical and has life, but it just doesn't sound that pleasant to me. Ok I'm three tracks in and I take it back, this stuff is good. Best jazz I ever heard, I really enjoyed it. Tempted by five. 5/5.

Fred Neil by Fred Neil
May 25 2026

Good stuff, Sweet Cocaine is one of the best songs ever. 4/5.

My Aim Is True by Elvis Costello
May 26 2026

Pretty comfy four. Enjoyed it more than expected. 4/5.

Aja by Steely Dan
May 27 2026

I don't get it. 39 mins but feels like it goes on forever. 1/5.

May 28 2026

Some good, some much less so. I find it hard to rate, maybe I don't get it, but I wasn't a fan. 2/5.

Boston by Boston
May 30 2026
Blood And Chocolate by Elvis Costello & The Attractions
Jun 01 2026

Enjoyed, I Want You is an amazing song. 4/5.

xx by The xx
Jun 02 2026

It’s okay, y’know? No real highlights, no emotion or anything like that. Decent tracks right through, so dont get any hate but it starts like a new massive attack record so its a disappointment that its not. 3/5.

25 by Adele
Jun 03 2026

Ok, if I have to, but I'm skipping Water Under the Bridge. Alright, I take it back. Loved it. 5/5.

The Healer by John Lee Hooker
Jun 05 2026

It's okay. Good stuff all the way through, but I didn't like the Santana track with it's elevator type 80s sound. 3/5.

Time Out by The Dave Brubeck Quartet
Jun 07 2026

It's jazz. I'm confused by it mostly. I appreciated the playing.

Rumours by Fleetwood Mac
Jun 09 2026
Axis: Bold As Love by Jimi Hendrix
Jun 10 2026

I appreciate some of the metal precursors here, overall it’s fine. 3/5.

Southern Rock Opera by Drive-By Truckers
Jun 11 2026

Didn’t know what to expect but totally loved it.

Hearts And Bones by Paul Simon
Jun 12 2026

Musical equivalent of a tropical-scented wet wipe. Soft, tepid, bit of an exotic touch (particularly in the bears). Some silly lyrics, even the supposed highlight songs are just bit forgettable. Scouse voiceover in the absurd cars are cars gives an extra point. 2/5.

Illmatic by Nas
Jun 13 2026

Bona fide classic, already one of my favourites before this challenge. Didn't have to listen as I know it, but I did anyway. 5/5

Tical by Method Man
Jun 14 2026

I like Wu Tang but never listened to their solo stuff. This one gets off to a bad start with a track that has a really dissonant sounding chorus that didn't agree with my ears. Better after that, but I'm not really a fan of the flow or the (lack of) musicality. 2/5.

Dr. Octagonecologyst by Dr. Octagon
Jun 26 2026

Some good tracks but too much nonsense, thinks he’s smarter than he is.

Horses by Patti Smith
Jun 27 2026
Destroyer by KISS
Jun 28 2026

A bit meh, no great riffs, no great songs, vocals are okay, derivative. Very one-note.

Juju by Siouxsie And The Banshees
Jun 29 2026
Bookends by Simon & Garfunkel
Jun 30 2026

Can’t be bothered with this insipid crap.

Green River by Creedence Clearwater Revival
Jul 01 2026
Gold by Ryan Adams
Jul 06 2026
Lost In The Dream by The War On Drugs
Jul 07 2026

It’s fine. There’s nothing wrong with it.

Guitar Town by Steve Earle
Jul 12 2026

Maybe just too country, but not old fashioned enough to be, for my taste. This means nothing I’m sure to anyone who reads this. Never mind. 2/5.

Tidal by Fiona Apple
Jul 20 2026
Freak Out! by The Mothers Of Invention
Jul 22 2026
Elvis Presley by Elvis Presley
Aug 08 2026

it's fine isn't it. 3/5

The Modern Dance by Pere Ubu
Aug 09 2026

Definitely different. I actually enjoyed it a fair bit. Regretting giving “Elvis Presley” a 3.

Maxinquaye by Tricky
Aug 10 2026

A classic 90s trip hop pioneer. 4/5.

Band On The Run by Paul McCartney and Wings
Aug 11 2026

I’m going to split my threes from now on. This is a mid 3/5.

The Queen Is Dead by The Smiths
Aug 12 2026

Loved The Smiths as a teen, they're even better than I remember. 5/5.

Woodface by Crowded House
Aug 13 2026

Exactly the type of 80s to 90s transition music I don't really like. Always hated the song Take the Weather. I was going to give it two, but I started skipping songs after listening to half. Just don't like it. 1/5.
