Bummed

Very much of its time. Not sure it holds up as a classic album. Interesting, but I wouldn’t revisit. Ryder’s vocals are fun but Happy Mondays sounds like a party you arrive at too late and everyone is wasted and they’re having more fun than you. Which is probably true.

Enjoyable and catchy. Very listenable even on first play.

Very dated.

Happy Mondays are great, but this album is rubbish. Shaun can’t sing for toffee.

I feel there are better albums by better bands with this same sonic approach. I found myself hating the singer.

Not new to psychedelic genre, but I usually listen to rock instead of funk- Also they were definitely on smthn when recording these songs cuz Most Memorable Song : Mad Cyril - just like all the songs in this album its messy, but it doesnt take away from the song it just adds 👌 Other moments : Lazyitis sounds like it was made by an irish bad ngl. Also they were definitely going through it when they wrote Performance

I didn't really give this album an attentive listen but having it on in the background it really struck me as well... background music. Nothing really popped here for me to make me want to take a closer look. But that said, it was enjoyable to have on. I'm sure there's a universe in which I could get really into it.

It's not actively horrible to listen to like some of the other albums we've had so far, but it really isn't pleasant in any sort of way either. I guess some of the instrumentation and song structures (particularly the funk-influences in the guitar lines and bass) could be interesting if it weren't all so dissonant, so droning, and covered by the off-putting vocals.

"Son, I'm flirty - I only went with your mamma 'cos she's dirty" The inimitable Shaun Ryder and the Happy Mondays. It feels out of time and I don't think it's aged that well.

Not sure "maybe the first album made on E" makes this album noteworthy of being on this list. I think this album really shows the brit-rock bias of this list. Close to being decent for me but something is scratchy almost about most songs throws me off. 2.5 but rounding down

WTF - they give us the Happy Monday’s on Tuesday morning? Let’s focus people! Mostly soundalike 80s art pop. I did like the riff and beat on ‘Wrote for Luck’. 2 stars.

Pretty solid melding of genres. I’m into it! The lead guitar on “Lazyitis” is beautiful with all that reverb.

Good but won’t go back and listen again

It’s no pills and thrills but I suspect a few were had in the making.

really catchy, pleasing, indie music. Hard to guess when it was produced. Could have come out this year for all I know.

Reminds me of The Cure, just not quite as good.

Incredibly middle of the road and forgettable. I don't think I've come across an album on this list yet that I have had less of an opinion of. I literally finished it less than 60 seconds ago and I have forgotten it entirely. At least Slipknot was memorably bad.

Kinda weird sounding

Very late 80s. I feel like if they were a bit more melodic, they could have easily been on iconic 80s movies soundtracks. Some fun bops but none help my attention.

I read the first line of the wiki page and already felt exhausted about listening to another english alt band. Tried to give it an honest shot, but found myself skipping to the next song about 3/4 through every track. I'd love to hear what someone loves about this album cuz it just isn't there for me. Lazyitis was the best track, and only partially because I knew it was the last one.

Was fine. Had the “Money Money Money” bass line at the end of the album.

It was enjoyable. I didn't listen to it loudly enough. I bet it's a banger at high volumes. 3.5.

It helped to understand that they were on MDMA when they made this. I almost get it. If those were their only instruments, I suppose I could see how this would be the byproduct. But… not my thing.

It turns out the only Happy Mondays songs I've heard are from their next album. Had a hard time getting into this album at first; it walks a very fine line between shaggy and sloppy. "Wrote For Luck" is a standout, also helped to listen to some of the remixes on the Collector's Edition. "Lazyitis" also was a bright spot on my first listen. Tough to rate; probably a 2.5. 2 if I focus on the negatives and 3 on the things it does well. Wikipedia highlight: "Bummed is definitely an E album, perhaps the first full album ever made on that drug"

Brittien versio Talking Headsista. Ihan yhtä huonoa ja sekavaa menoa kuin Amerikan serkuillaan. Pari kertaa taistelin läpi mutta ei tämä auennut. Wrote for Luck on ilmeisesti jonkinlainen klassikkobiisi mutta ihan yhtä huonolta se kuulosti kuin muutkin.

So much of this was good. Real weird and the lyrics were lame in a good way too. Quite smiths like that second track too. Obvs v stone roses too.

3.5. Very early nu wave vibes with some music that seems to have influenced the 80s, especially the poppier The Cure

Good but I like Pills n Thrills better

I kind of like this one a *little* more than the previous one I listened to, but it's still a hazy ... something. The drugs in Manchester must have been great. Favorite tracks: "Mad Cyril", "Fat Lady Wrestlers", "Brain Dead"

Really not feeling this one. Sort of short album that feels like it goes on forever. The music isn't that enjoyable. Feels very jam-y which isn't up my alley.

not another fucking Happy Mondays album. oh wait it’s good actually. pretty tripped out. some of the songs kinda blend, but the vibe’s good. a more interesting, less sterile version of the following album.

This is some really classic bad 80s music. I did not enjoy this, however, I think they could have made it worse.
