I probably could die without having had listened to this. I can appreciate the experimental hip hop sound, but it's kind of all over the place

Such a cool and unique sound, so much anguish. Every song can be interpreted differently by everyone. There are some very sweet moments like Deep Water. Singing isn't the most controlled, but contributes to their authenticity
This band sounds like I would've heard one of their songs in School of Rock as a 3rd grader and then make them my whole personality.
Can't overlook the fact that this dude was all kinds of fucked up
THIS ROCKS!!!! I already downloaded a few songs on apple music

- intro super cool - pleasantly surprised since I don't listen to Jay Z - overall, I enjoyed listening while working
THIS ROCKS!!!! I already downloaded a few songs on apple music
Pretty good album, although I don't listen to rap very much
Indie pop? Yes Please slightly more on the folky-ish side compared to other indie pop
this album was released on my bday. Will have to say - not my favorite, not a huge early grunge fan. Although I haven't listened to it much to begin with...
this is actually pretty good. I like it. Favorite tracks: Building steam with a grain of salt, Stem/Long Stem
okay woah first song playing and I like this. But after a while got a lil boring
I have to say.....I did not like this one
I love love english alt rock, but I don't think I'm a huge fan of this album :/ I'm pretty emo but this is too emo
this album is okay. I understand the hype but to me it's alrighttttt
Don't think twice, it's alright. always so beautiful
Oh, I am surprised. I didn't finish the first song bc I thought it was boring and assumed the rest of the album would be boring too. But it's quirky. WOAH i just noticed how long these songs are. I like this but probably won't listen to it again
always a nice time listening to bob dylan. if you see her, say hello made me really sad
too melancholy for me. every song sounds the same. 2 stars
more blues-y than his earlier albums. His voice has definitely improved. The songs are good and I can appreciate the writing, but none of these are catchy enough to make me want to listen again
U2 always reminds me of father. Really appealing songs
before listening, I predicted how they would sound. I was right haha. The more folky songs are so good. Forget that Girl is so nice!
Such raw emotion. I love her
This was pretty good, but I don't listen to rap a whole lot so probably will not come back to this
Lots of low reviews for Suede but my emo/new wave heart likes them a lot. Nice to listen and sing along to on long drives at night. I do think the Dog Man Star album is better.
I got excited for this album since I love new wave. cool experimental sound
she has a really beautiful voice, but will probably not come back to this. This is very much something my parents would have listened to in the car when we were young
meh
Super pleasant listen! I don't think anyone can dislike Stevie Wonder. It's good background music. But the album is soooooo long, I wouldn't be able to listen without doing something busy or else I would get bored.
Hanky Panky Nohow?! masterpiece haha. This is actually a very pleasant listen while working
Wow, I've heard so many of her songs in shows and movies and never knew they were all by Carole King - a name I don't think I have heard of...embarrassingly showing how young and ignorant I am
this is really deep. But looking at the cover art, I thought this would be a rock album and was kind of let down.
I don't really like this
this is like, so bad that it's so good. It's a grungy mess but so fun to listen to
Ah yes, my vibe of alt rock. This is so fun!! I knew the original band of "Alright" was an alt rock band, but didn't know it was them! While these songs are all great, none of them stood out to me.
"He sounds like a living cigarette but its pretty good." I like this a lot, it's super unique
Boring. I saw that this was alt rock and got excited, but I actually do not like their style. I had no idea Everybody Hurts was by them
cool and sultry, but the backstory....yikes
I have always liked Maggie may, but aside from that pretty boring in my opinion :/
this is so cool. Where Is My Mind was way ahead of its time
cool upbeat punk album, but got a bit boring because all the songs sounded the same.
so groovy!
Such a cool and unique sound, so much anguish. Every song can be interpreted differently by everyone. There are some very sweet moments like Deep Water. Singing isn't the most controlled, but contributes to their authenticity
This was actually quite a good listen! I can't believe it was a flop when it was released.
She has a really beautiful voice, but I have never liked this genre of music because it reminds me of being one of the last kids to be dropped off by the afterschool bus everyday - something that I always hated. It was always dark and quiet with this type of music playing.
Buffalo stance...wow so good. Such a fun vibe, this chick can rap and her confidence oozes.
How is this only from 2002?! This album is so cool. psychedelic, indie, odyssey, experimental fusion. "Do You Realize" was the only song I really knew from them and it's so cool to hear how it fit into the rest of the album.
such a groovy one-man show. Didn't realize how much softer he was earlier on. Will admit though, none of these songs really stood out to me
Grunge is always cool. For some reason, I didn't think Pearl Jam went this hard. It's pretty good, I can imagine hearing this album at like a basement party or something
Not very memorable for me. The songs were not bad and super chill, but I will probably not listen again
So cool! It's funk/rock/metal mush. You can just tell that this album breaks boundaries.
Very chill. Not my usual go-to for listening though
Most of this album is much more soothing than I was expecting haha. Probably will not listen again.
Mermaid Smiled is so good. Dear God is so great. Every song is different and kept the whole album very enjoyable to listen to
Bobby is quite the entertainer! Every song was great. Not giving it 5 stars only because I probably will not come back to listen again
Political hip hop is not really my jam. Spoken word at an open mic night - sure.
Grew up listening to Green Day, needed to be a 5
Great new wave all throughout, and you can definitely hear the experimental aspects. Being a huge synth pop/ new wave fan, I can't believe I have never heard of The The...maybe I am not as big of a fan as I thought I was
I love listening to this kind of music while doing other things, like designing or reorganizing my home. It inspires me.
In college I wrote a paper about The Message. It made me appreciate conscious hip hop
I am not much a fan of alternative country. It reminds me too much of being on the school bus after school - which I hated.
I was expecting nothing and was pleasantly surprised. This album is a nice listen while I am working on a rainy day, but I probably will not come back to it again
Woah. I was not expecting to really love this. This album is beautiful.
A classic, but not something that I would normally turn to.
I had high hopes for this but found it kind of boring
Such a cool and interesting listen!
Nice sleepy folk album. Something I'd listen to on a rainy day while cleaning or something
Although a god listen, I was slightly disappointed. I had never heard of this album so I was expecting something more 80s, and not 90s alt rock.
Very surprised this came out in the 80s. You can definitely hear their influence on future bands, as it sounds like the predecessor to nu meta and other sub genres. The instrumentals are awesome, not a fan of the vocals.
This album is so lovely
This is so 90's haha. I feel like I should be hearing this as an angsty teen movie soundtrack.
I probably could die without having had listened to this. I can appreciate the experimental hip hop sound, but it's kind of all over the place
At first I wasn't into this very much, but then I started to like it a lot more. The singing bits are so lovely
Such a fun album!
New wave all the way, this album rules
Not something I would come back to. The album didn't flow well in my opinion. So many different styles
This must have been SO much fun to see live!
My music roots trace back to pop punk. This just has to be a 5
Good album. The incorporation of acid house and dance beats definitely leads into the 90's club scene
I use to listen to some of their top songs all the time, but am not a huge fan of this album as a whole. Come Out and Play and Self Esteem are awesome, but all the other songs kind of sound the same.
Cool mash of blues and psych rock
I was SO happy to see this album pop up. IT'S SO GOOD!!
I love 80's music....but I did not like this very much.
Good album, but doesn't sound different than other big hard rock bands of the time tbh
The story behind the album creation is awesome, but this is so weird. Way too experimental to actually sit and enjoy.
I mean c'mon....listen to that wondrous voice
The tunes themselves are not bad, but like someone else commented, there definitely is a fine line between appreciation and appropriation.
Oh yesssss, my kind of music. So Moody. Makes me feel alive.
too robotic for my liking
Aside from Don't You Want Me, none of the songs really caught my attention.
This album is so very lovely!
Wow this dude flows so well!
This was a very lovely album!
This was quite the nice listen! Very quirky
I mean cmon....
This was kind of hard to listen to
A couple good tracks, but all songs have the same type of flow - doesn't keep me interested for long
Someone else described this album as the warmest blanket on the coldest day, and I really felt that
Not for me. I felt very uneasy listening to this...as if impending doom was upon us so we are all killing each other.
This band sounds like I would've heard one of their songs in School of Rock as a 3rd grader and then make them my whole personality.
Very haunting
Lots of well known bops
Toy Story takes place in the deep south and Woody is a redneck
I love Brit pop. This was a little more on the indie side
All the tracks kinda blur into one, but this was fun! If it were playing at a party I would want to get up shake my hips
I was going to give this a 1, but so many reviews say that these sounds were so new and amazing at the time of its release - something I didn't think about.
First song I thought was very meh, but the more I listened, the more enjoyable it became
I think I only knew ABBA's hits, so I thought of them as super poppy, sing-along band, but still very talented. This was unexpected and such an enjoyable listen.
Good listen!
spoopy music
Man this is boring. Once again, this reminds me of the music I would hear on the after-school bus, an experience that I hated
typical early 2000's indie. I might have liked this when I was younger, but now not much a fan
This was a very nice listen, but kind of boring
This is such a fun listen! Watching the music videos definitely helped make the experience more enjoyable because you can see her weirdness and eclectic style come out. Houdini is the pop version of Western Emo haha
There are a decent number of hits on this album
Oh Baby and American Dream....so hauntingly good, melancholy nostalgia. Other tracks are fun dance bops for all the hipsters.
ohhh folk-punk, I like
I knew this album was influential but this is actually my first time listening. New Order is one of my favorite new wave bands, and it's mind-blowing to learn that New Order was formed by the rest of the members of Joy Division
Solid hardcore punk. You can feel their youth frustration. Love the cover art and how short the album is
This album was an easy listen, nothing to complain about
Idk, with cover art like this, I would expect to listen to something interesting
There are times when I feel really sad and down, not for any particular reason, but simply because of how difficult the human experience is. This album fully encapsulates those feelings.
I can't believe I have never listened to Manic Street Preachers before!!! The first song had me hooked. The strings throughout are so good
Rap isn't my favorite, and this album was kinda weird. But pretty impressive that we was only 16 at the time.
I can definitely hear their influence on other bands. But I didn't like this very much
Solid album! Although none of the songs were very memorable, it was a good listen.
Beautiful songs
I had high hopes for this album. But it was fairly lackluster
too abrasive for my liking
Nice Irish folk/rock. Currently watching The Witcher, so I've got this theme going on in my life right now lol.
I'm starting to think Neil Young is highly overrated....He's all over the place - everything is hit or miss, and this one is a miss for me
As I was listening I was imagining what this fake film is about, letting the music run my imagination. It was quite fun.
Such a smooth listen, and not too long either!
Pure, clean flow. I don't normally listen to rap, but this was actually a very good listen.
Wow, so many gems on this album, I can't believe I never heard of Harry Nilsson!!
Kinda tacky to me
unpopular opinion: I do not like Bittersweet Symphony
This was a sweet and lovely album
her voice is beautiful, but this was boring
Supergrass is Super fun
Dark and industrial is cool, but I can't sit and listen to it for long
Outkast RULES
This was good
This is very telling of my age...but I did not know Pink Floyd started out as a psychedelic group before evolving into progressive rock. I enjoy the latter more.
Staple indie from my formative years. Cue Schmidt's finger snaps: "Let's start an Arcade Fire"
This was a fun listen. None of the songs stood out to me, but none of them were uninteresting
A beautiful album. Whenever Levee comes on during shuffle, we never skip it. Winston: "This is my maaasterpieeeece"
I was expecting disco, so when the first track played I was like "oh, very cool, they are starting out slow and going to speed up." When it didn't speed up I was like wtf, this is so boring. But then started enjoying it again after realizing just how versatile they are.
Too melancholy for me. But I guess it makes sense considering how sad he must have been throughout his life.
Man, I have really slept on this band, this album slaps. I also learned something new today (i.e. Gorillaz)
boringggggggg
A pleasant listen
oooooo nice. impressive debut album
This is so freaking Bri-ish
Great energy and really fun melodies, just not catchy enough. Also not a fan of the vocals. I feel like if this album was redone and tightened up, it could be this really cool vampy theatrical piece
Is it just me or is one of the tunes in Nacho Libre?!?! THE Nacho Libre, pure Cinematic Gold.
I was really excited to see another blur album pop up, but a bit disappointed that I didn't enjoy it as much as their self-titled album
ugh, nine inch nails
I like The Who, but nothing really stands out to me in this album
This mystery of an album is absolutely beautiful.
No doubt he's talented, but this was so. boring.
At first I wasn't into this album, but then Happiness came on
This was actually quite a pleasant listen
There was a nice mix of different sounds and styles. A good listen
okay, this album is so cool
Nope
I like eminem for the most part, but not this album.
Whoever said they don't like this bc it sounds like a fairytale theater run by deadheads......THAT'S WHY IT'S SO GOOD. Btw, any instrument can be rock - that's what's great about music.
This is so fun!
Very much sounds like The Beatles, a good listen
Meh
Not bad, but not their best
a while back I had to google why people love him - it actually made me appreciate his music talent. but i can't get myself to support the art of a character like his.
kind of sounds like talking heads
this was a pleasant listen, although I think the reviews were more enjoyable to read haha
Yes yes yes. Listen to Alex Turner?? YES
Pretty good, every song carries weight
I love post-rock. This was a lovely listen.
The almighty Slayer, who reign in blood to this day and forever
I generally like U2, no doubt they are talented, but this album was kinda boring aside from Love is Blindness
I have yet to listen to a Radiohead album I didn't like
Pleasant listen. Will I come back to it? No thanks
this is the backing track of me romanticizing my life lol
the last song goes hard
this was so boring
Not something I would come back to, but I do like Lorde's voice. And it was nice listening to something newer.
Not bad, but also not very good
This was so weird but I kinda liked it
Such good new wave, so many iconic songs
Was very excited when I saw this as I have listened to it before and was a huge fan of D.A.N.C.E when it first played on MTV. I am not the biggest fan of electro dance, but this is punchy and funky
A bit disappointed that they really haven't changed much since the 90s. Would have been nice to see a greater evolution in their sound
this was a fun listen, nothing that really stood out to me though
I liked the first song a lot. The rest were hit/miss for me
The only song I liked was Electronic Renaissance
This is top tier brit pop, how have I never heard of them?!?!?
I was kinda bummed to see another CHIC album. Don't get me wrong - it's great disco, but all the songs are same-y
As much as I dislike glam rock, you can't deny their legacy
Ohhh this jazz is quite nice. I want to sit in a fancy lounge and enjoy a cocktail while having a ~sophisticated~ conversation with friends
I'm not a country fan but I quite like this with the heavy instrumentals
This was quite an enjoyable listen! I love the low-fi vibes. Definitely sounds like an experimental album. The laughable tracks are funny and light! Sounds like a mix of commercial songs; you know those funny Old Spice/Dr. Pepper/Geico commercials etc etc. But then he pulls everything back together in songs like Lava Lamp and Jethro.
I love avant music and Nico's authenticity, but this was quite boring
Was hopeful after seeing that Psycho Killer is on this album, but a bit disappointed that none of the other songs are as memorable.
nope
I like this. One of the most unique brit-pop I have listened to and I very much enjoy the theatrics. I wish it really was hardcore though.
Considering Smoke on the Water is one of the first songs everyone learns to play on guitar, this band is pretty iconic. There's really nothing to dislike them for, just didn't do anything for me
Reading their story, it makes sense why this is their only album...they were a mess
I had been waiting patiently for this album
I liked this WAY more than I was expecting!
yawnnnnnnnnn
Man, Elton John is one of those artists that will never be overrated
I feel like younger me would have really enjoyed this.
yessss, when I see alt rock, this is what I wanna hear!
Perfectly lovely album and lovely person. But songs are all very similar, so it felt like it dragged on a bit.
I like Coldplay, but they get boring after a bit
wait what the heck....this is SO good. I love prog rock!!
Pioneers of funk metal! This album is definitely of it's time
I liked the storytelling, but this was boring :(
I love shit like this! This album really surprised me because the last Brian Eno album I listened to I gave it 1 star. His sound is so diverse
I don't really listen to 80's thrash metal....but MAN. The energy....the riffs....so much fun
Not my go-to music of choice, but this album is very wholesome
I loved this....so moody and goth. While listening, I heard a lot of Willow Smith, I wonder if she is influenced by Siouxsie
Why is this on the list.......it's just songs from their other albums, but worse.
Hair metal is corny and overrated imo. but I guess you can't deny the legacy of this band and this album.
In theory, I am a Sonic Youth fan. But I've come to realize that I don't really like early alt rock
Very earnest album. But The Rolling Stones has so much hype around their name that I guess I expected more?
There's so much noise and distortion that it literally hurt my ears
fun band, they're cool
I think it's a cool concept, but for what reason is this album on the list?
Sounds like he made music just to say he's a musician
I thinkkk the covers are good
I liked the overall moodiness. Bruce is emo as heck
This guy is equally as cool as his music
This album is painstakingly long. They are a good band, but seems like they are trying too hard to be unique
The Police is good but overrated.
a nice folk album, I really enjoyed the lyrics
Didn't Helter Skelter inspire Charles Manson
This makes me want to go to the county fair
Such a beautiful voice and arrangements. Very nice background music. Just not something I would gravitate to if I want to listen to something.
I can so hear early metal. very cool
If I were a teen in the 80s, this album would be the thing to make me want to pick up a bass
man this is so emo
The music is quite good, singing style reminds me a bit of the Coraline soundtrack. But....it's not really memorable
this is awesome
I like Dave Grohl. I don't like Foo Fighters
I was having a rough morning but this was a really nice, calming listen
Ahhh, takes me back to high school when I started listening to indie
First time ever listening to Thin Lizzy. I was expecting whiny rock, but was pleasantly surprised!
Other than the title song, the rest of the album is meh
this legit hurt my ears
two boring electronic albums in a row....not a good week for me
Man....I like the IDEA of shoegaze....but I just can't get myself to enjoy it
it was okay
It was okayyy. There are a lot of new wave albums on this list that are better
The synth and fake drums are kinda corny
too repetitive
This is so punk rock, was surprised to see it's from the 70s
It started off so strong and I had so much hope, but it just fell flat after the first song :(
Spooky season is upon us and I am loving this emo boy music
Although not my vibe, this man was very talented.
I heard The Smiths in 500 Days of Summer at the ripe age of 15, and the rest is history
so short! so sweet!
"Don't" was actually pretty interesting compared to the rest of the album. The only song I liked. You can hear the influence Dinosaur Jr. had on grunge bands that came after
Saw the cover and was hoping for something interesting :(
I was skeptical at first, but this was actually really fun!!
You can tell every word, every note, every syllable is intentional
I've only really heard Lana's top songs and I really like them! But though her voice is beautiful, I found this album to be a bit one dimensional.
Better than I expected!
The title of this album is v accurate. I guess this is what I should have expected.
Halloweenie
quintessential 50's rock and roll album
I liked The Seed
Ah, the music of my adolescence
Nice background music for a hip bar or restaurant
the hideous album cover gave me low expectations, but this was pretty enjoyable. Plus, there's a shrek song.
When he said “around the world” it really hit me
Not bad, but a bit too repetitive for my liking
I am sure Morrissey was not the most pleasant person to be around. But the sadness in his music is an extension of himself and his complicated mind - so for that I can appreciate him.
who's your daddy?!?!?!?
Third Arcade Fire album and once again it has exceeded my expectations
Kanye is crazy and I hate to admit that his music is good
I don't care for this one
Quite sweet and quirky. The length of the album is for art's sake I guess
This was shockingly excellent! So much energy, so cohesive, unique theme!
This was quite an unexpectedly good listen. It has nostalgic 80's vibes combined with distinct 2000's sound.
I was like "This gives me Korn vibes". And to my surprise, the Korn vocalist is featured on this album.
Not my thing. My dad would like it though
Did y'all listen to Sleep Party People's newest album?? Similar sounds.
At first I thought this was so weird...but kinda cool they mixed their own culture into it
this was quite a drag....
Good, but nothing really stood out to me
Not my style, but not bad at all
I like Eurythmics, I don't love them
This is chaotic evil!!!
I liked the quirkiness
I like the violin. I feel this album could have been stronger if there was more structure/direction.
I Want You Now is corny as helllllll. Depeche Mode has better albums
Every song kind of sounded the same
Elegia was really nice
I like raggae, but after listening to a few songs in a row they all start to sound the same
Riveting lyrics: So you missed some school You know that school's for fools Today money rules
Can't overlook the fact that this dude was all kinds of fucked up
You look at their name, you look at the cover, and their music meets expectations.
this was a fun lazy listen!
This is definitely for a specific group of Metallica fans
I really like the instrumentals. I wish the vocals had more power behind it, a bit too whiny for my liking
I thought this album was very cute!
quintessential late 90's/early 00's alt sound
I always think Elvis Costello music sounds different than it actually does. It's better in my imagination.
I like them
Idk man, I know she's wildly popular for good reason, but I find that her singing lacks interesting vocal melodies. Sounds...generic?
Not my style - but fun, quirky, and eclectic
I have never listened to them before. Such a sweet feeling of nostalgia.
This was just so....boring
This is so 2002. It's fineee.
This was like the quintessential folk/alt sound of the early 2000s
this is the music playing when you are romanticizing your life
Okay, I loved this. First two tracks are so fun. "The Red Telephone" sounds like it was influential to the band Wet Leg
Definitely new millennium vibes. It's okay but boring
This is a MOOD
Not my kind of emo music. Although I do remember having "Why Does it Always Rain on Me" on my mp3 player in middle school.
4th Byrds album?? Man, they must've been hugeeee in the 60s. (very telling of my age)
I wish the whole album had the same vibe as HC. After the first song it gets quite boring
This is so nerdy and wonky, and I love it
I like the song "Alison" because it was in New Girl
fun concept
Sounds good, but kinda boring
Liked it, not surprising
I liked this more than Music for the Jilted Generation
For why....
I really wish Kanye wasn't so controversial. He does have talent
I couldn't listen to the whole album, it was so boring
love the honky tonk sound
I don't think this is thaaaaaaat bad like some of the comments say. It's not my vibe, but there's a reason why this guy is so widely recognized.
better than I expected
quite unexpected in a good way
nice listen
I wish the album was more accurate to its title...I was expecting grandiose hillbilly theatrics
This was fun. Sounds like something my dad would play in the car for us as kids.
This grew on me. I kind of get it. Very modern art esque
kinda tacky
lyrics are kinda tacky
I love whacky spooky music like this
Really enjoyed this one
pretty good covers
I use to love new wave.....but hearing all these new wave albums on the list has made me realize how mediocre the genre is
This was painfully boring
I don't think he's that good of a rapper
So ~*dramatic*~
Really enjoyed Desert Melodie. Gives me Midwest Emo vibes
Suck on my big ten inch...classy.
I can't believe in my 29 years of existence this is my first time listening to this album. It is nothing like I expected, but everything I thought it would be.
Sounds like the music they play at the vet to help keep the animals calm
I love creepy, but this the kinda creepy sounds that makes me feel uncomfortable
As someone who listens primarily to post-hardcore/emo - this album definitely sounds like early influence.
Some songs have pretty cool experimentation, and I wish the album went that route instead. Way too long
I find jazz a bit boring, but having a background in playing alto sax in concert band I can really appreciate this.
College rock, meh
the music of my childhood
what the heck are these wacko lyrics
As the forefathers of grindcore, I understand how influential this album is. But man, I can’t listen to this, it’s too high on the spectrum of rage and chaos
I like the Smith's more than his solo work
I primarily listen to math rock/post hardcore/midwest emo, but I can't tell if I like this or not.
Hot Fuss is right....The Killers were everywhere after this album
Love the energy, very Arctic Monkeys-esque
This is very 2013. I probably would have enjoyed listening to this on the radio at the time.
Glam rock in 2003? I rolled my eyes. But to my surprise, this is actually so fun!
I wanted to be a manic pixie dream girl so badly in high school. I really did like this album, but I thought listening to this band, and others in the genre, made me "quirky" and "different"
Unique voice. She sounds like Miley Cyrus's predecessor
When you see a Beach Boys album, you know exactly how it's going to sound
A total surprise! This was such a pleasant listen
This album reminds me of 13 Going on 30
Although I agree that nu-metal is one of the least appealing sub-genres of metal, I wasn't expecting good ol Linkin Park to get so much hate
I like the wackiness, but wouldn't casually listen to this on my own.
Colorful, nice listen
very pleasant listen
Started out better than I was expecting, but got progressively worse........."Girl" made me highly uncomfortable.
I liked this
This was silly, but I kinda like it?? There are some catchy parts
I liked this!
songwriting is boring
I enjoyed this actually - like someone else mentioned, it's very 90's daft punk-esque. For those complaining about repetition, it was very common in electronica music.
Dark and brooding, I dig it
Alex Turner's voice is so sexy
For what it is, it's not bad at all. But like, every song uses the same chords lol
Am a bit confused as to why Tim Buckley is on this list if none of his albums sold well.
Surprisingly catchy. Wish there were some more aggressive songs like the first one.
I am fortunate enough to be in a time in my life where I cannot relate to this album, but it is quite beautiful
Not the most profound debut, but American Girl shows lots of future potential.
remember that rumor that MM got his bottom ribs removed so he could suck his own dick? crazy how every kid in school somehow talked about that
Great production but it was too mellow for me, couldn't hear any emotion.
I grew up hearing Adele on the radio and generally always liked her. Some of the instrumental sounds like stock audio though
definitely a cult band. I hear midwest emo influence in this
I actually enjoyed this quite a bit. Although, as a 2017 album, I wonder how this is different from folktronika albums that have come before
I quite like this "Rock Bjork." Feels very girl-power. Dude's voice is weird though
pleasant but boring
I don't think I'm a fan of the contemporary production on this
In a previous Sonic Youth review, I claimed to not be a fan. But this is now my third SY album and I am loving their diversity in sound!
In 4th Chamber: "Sippin rum out of Stanley Cups" Even in the 90s Stanley had a chokehold on us
Not bad, but a bit boring
good production quality. I tend to like rock opera
this is one of those albums you have to be in the right mood to appreciate and relate.
I actually enjoyed this
I can imagine hearing this in some modern, upscale restaurant. Kinda boring for leisure listening
I am at a point in my life where I can relate to this so much. I couldn't help but tear up while listening. Oh the complexities of modern love.
This is quite interesting.
This is creative, but hurts my ears
Quintessential punk band for the millennials. Confused as to why they would choose a compilation album though.
I like Gorillaz but this album as a whole is actually kinda boring lol
3 stars for groove is in the heart
We're Going to Be Friends was the redeeming song for this album
Jam bands are fun live while drinking and chatting, I don't care much for leisure album listening
really boring
I really like his music. I wish he didn't suck so much
This was better than I expected
This is weird but I don't hate it??
This sounds like it could be the soundtrack of a sad romance movie.
I will always have a spot in my heart for The Cure
The singles are good, but I just hear it as radio music
I think this band is talented, but they stalled creatively
I never knew what Alice Cooper sounded like until this. I kinda like it
Very nostalgic. Very summertime
I use to think slipknot was scary but then I really liked them for a while and now I think theyre scary again
I like that they are weird and silly. But I don’t particularly enjoy it
I find the second half of the album very beautiful.
I hate hair metal. but some of these songs are SO darn popular. I'm torn!
I would like to know who the hell designed this album cover and then who the hell approved it
I don't listen to punk on the daily, but I always go to punk shows for the energy. Live is totally better than any produced record
I would not have expected this to be from the 70's. I like the dramatics.
This was a very sweet listen. Really chill, the dog days of summer feel
This is so fun but every song sounds like the same upbeat pirate sing-along pub scene. Would like some more ~texture~
I got two Pogues albums in a row. Love the sea shanty vibe, but it got a bit boring. BUT, if I were to have to listen to Celtic music, I would put on the Pogues
Not what I was expecting based on the cover
Listening to this album gave me chills.
New Girl is my favorite show. IF YOU KNOW YOU KNOW
Epitome of modern electronic production
Looking at the cover, I was really expecting some alt/punk rock hype
I very much enjoy the spooky vibes
Are these just all covers?
Reminds me a lot of Depeche Mode
I feel like Bob Dylan is one of those "you had to be there" artists
I like what she's about, but I can't resonate :/ I'm also shocked that this is a 2020 album....the whole time I was listening I thought it was from the 90s
This really surprised me! The hideous cover design is deceiving
When goths go to the beach
Not gonna lie...the second half isn't bad
I enjoy heavier music and it's not because I'm ignoring personal problems or don't have a healthy mindset. It's the same way anyone resonates with the music that they like; It makes you feel something. I'm a casual slipknot listener, but I know they changed the lives of many people during our formative years when I was growing up. They're one of many bands that made heavier music accessible to so many.
Okay but the bass lines are awesome
Gives me jethro tull vibes, I quite like
Super fun and poppy. But too over-produced for my liking
Look at the cover. C'mon! So disturbing in a thought-provoking way, it's great. I'm not really a Korn fan because they're too creepy for my liking, but gotta admit that they've mastered their unique sound. Can't help the head banging. Dare I give them a 5?!
It's not a bad album, but genre-bending and experimental?? BITCH WHERE??
Real snappy. Every song sounds chaotically the same though
First full-length hardcore punk album?? That's HUGE!
This sounds haunted in like a mad creepy stalker-ish way, not so much dancehall way
I actually quite liked this. His singing is dynamic so it was an interesting listen.
This is a little strange. Also hate the band name
This is the type of band where I'd go to their basement shows for the vibes but don't actually listen to their music.
This is really chill, a very smooth listen
Incredibly nostalgic, I loved this album as a child. But it makes me sad learning years later that Britney was an exploited sexualized product.
I did not like this. I agree with others saying it sounds quite pretentious, and I think the cover art amplifies that notion.
1969?? The production is amazing!
the epitome of high school me
I like this a lot. The Cure-adjacent
I think this is so fun! Very theatrical, knees up high marching.
what a GREAT album opener
The vocalist sounds like the guy in Rammstein
This sounds like it would be the soundtrack of an indie film with a cult following
This album made me understand the David Bowie hype
Really pretty but I found a bit boring. You can listen to any single song off this and know what the rest of the album will sound like.
This was quite a pleasant listen
4 - Haunting. Note cultural significance
I like the orchestral component, sad to know it was rush recorded and there was a lot of behind-the-scenes beef.
Kinda boring
Only really liked season of the witch
People saying the music is garbage, I think that was the point. To be so disgustingly ugly that it turned away the people that wouldn't appreciate them.
very seductive. I can hear this as a soundtrack for a neo-noir movie
Love the vocal style and funky vibes
I only like with or without you. Everything else is kinda boring and tacky.
Is this suppose to be comedy?? I honestly can't tell!
I feel like I am eating endless salad and breadsticks at the Olive Garden
Very At the Drive-In esque. 5
The style of this album is very of its time
This is just a 2 hour long jam session....
Too overproduced for my liking. 5 year old me loved this though, the lyrics are so tacky.
I loved this. It made me so happy.
I love Bjork's artistry, but I personally find it hard to resonate with her music.
Must have been cool to hear during its debut
Very bjork
New wave/post punk I have always been a fan of. I think there's a feeling of nostalgia in its particular sound, gives it a bit of timelessness.
I can't love REM. I don't know why
This is very punk. Pleasantly surprised
If I knew about this band in high school, I would've loved them
I know a handful of these songs because they played on the radio ALL the time (my mom is a top hits radio gal). I wouldn't say they are particularly good though.
this garage rock vibe is weird
Heavy metal is so hyper-masculine. I kinda did like "This Love" bc it sounded more hardcore than heavy metal
Such a charming voice
I have a newfound appreciation for punk now that I'm pretty present in the baltimore hardcore scene.
I understand this album was in protest to societal issues, but at least make it enjoyable??
The story behind this record is quite interesting. But I did feel uneasy while listening
go shorty, it's yo birthday
Not my favorite from Elliott Smith, a bit too over produced. But it still has that intimate feel that he does really well.
This was a very pleasant listen
This is weird and kinda disturbing
Dang, he was SAD sad
This is great, but less great than some of their other albums
This was sad, You could tell he was ready.
I love hardcore. This was excellent.
Really enjoyed Onanon, but all the other tracks were a bit of a snooze
