Album Summary

Loveless is the second studio album by the Irish-English rock band My Bloody Valentine. It was released November 4, 1991 in the United Kingdom by Creation Records and in the United States by Sire Records. The album was recorded between February 1989 and September 1991, with vocalist and guitarist Kevin Shields leading sessions and experimenting with guitar vibrato, nonstandard tunings, digital samplers, and meticulous production methods. The band hired nineteen different studios and several engineers during the album's prolonged recording, with its final production cost rumoured to have reached £250,000 (equivalent to £480,000 in 2021). Preceded by the EPs Glider (1990) and Tremolo (1991), Loveless reached number 24 on the UK Albums Chart and was widely praised by critics for its sonic innovations and Shields' "virtual reinvention of the guitar". However, after its release, Creation owner Alan McGee dropped the band from the label as he found Shields too difficult to work with, a factor alleged to have contributed to the label's eventual bankruptcy. My Bloody Valentine struggled to record a follow-up to the album and broke up in 1997, making Loveless their last full-length release until m b v in 2013. Since its release, Loveless has been widely cited by critics as one of the greatest albums of all time, a landmark work of the shoegaze subgenre, and as a significant influence on various subsequent artists. In 2012, it was reissued as a two-CD set, including remastered tracks and a previously unreleased half-inch analogue tape version, and peaked on several international charts. In 2013, Loveless was certified silver by the British Phonographic Industry.

Two in a row. Come on. This is painful.

An undeniably influential record, though treated on its own merits away from that reputation, I have always found it a mixed balance of aggressive and delicate elements. At times, the vocals and melodies almost capture the beauty of the Cocteau Twins, but those moments are ultimately overwhelmed by the dense guitar arrangements. It attempts to pair harsh distortion with sweet, atmospheric melodies, but for me, that juxtaposition does not always work. I do not find it a cohesive listen, nor is it entirely an easy listen - though, admittedly, I suspect it was never meant to be. 1 "Only Shallow" (4/5) 2 "Loomer" (4/5) 3 "Touched" (3/5) 4 "To Here Knows When" (3/5) 5 "When You Sleep" (4/5) 6 "I Only Said" (3/5) 7 "Come in Alone" (4/5) 8 "Sometimes" (3/5) 9 "Blown a Wish" (3/5) 10 "What You Want" (3/5) 11 "Soon" (3/5) Total - 37 Average - 3.4 450/1001 237/450 albums reviewed were new to me.

Suprisingly good I was thinking these are like Fallout Boy or My Chemical Romance EMO pop rock. However how wrong can I be some nice riffs good female vocals and atmospheric a bit Pumpkins meet The Cure dark and heavy with nice guitar segments I quite liked it.

Headache inducing 3/10

Load of dross

There are some very cool riffs scattered throughout this album, unfortunately for me that is where the success ends. The mix is so muddy and unfocused. I understand its a choice , but its a choice I do not understand.

Not really what I gravitate towards. The guitar was good

I love the Dandy Warhols so based on sound alone, I like this. Where the Dandy’s are more melodic, they stand above these guy. It’s noise and most of the time you can’t understand the lyrics. Still with me here? This definitely isn’t a sell out album. It’s yet another album on here that has no breakout song. It works here. Think of it as all the voices in your head speaking at once but instead of you going loonie over it, you embrace the chaos. Got it?

Fuck yeah. This is another one I've heard a lot of about over the years that I never got around to. Am really excited, and am really hoping it's as good as everyone says it is. 01. only shallow Really cool lyrics, and some absolutely killer instrumentation. 02. loomer Shit is powerful. I'm a super introverted person (with depression no less), and I get this exact feeling with any party of people I'm around. 03. touched Holy shit the story behind this is sad. Beautiful song with beautiful meaning. 04. to here knows when Not as big into this as the first three, but this is still damn good! 05. when you sleep Absolute beauty. It's not my favorite shoegaze song ever, but without this we wouldn't HAVE my favorite (I Don't Love by Have A Nice Life btw). 06. i only said Lyrically is mediocre, but that instrumentation is absolutely killer!!!! 07. come in alone I don't know man, this shit is awesome. I don't know how someone couldn't like this. Great lyrics. 08. sometimes So. Fucking. Pretty. Actual flawless track. 09. blown a wish Not a bad song in a vacuum, but coming off of 'sometimes' hurts this one a lot. If this was earlier I would like it more, even if I still really like it. 10. what you want Definitely the most inaudible lyrics of the pack, but is still awesome! Great penultimate track! 11. soon Fantastic way to end the album. Has some of my favorite lyrics, and is absolutely crazy instrumentation. Sometimes I feel too nice. Not on this one. This deserves a five star rating, no contest.

Surprisingly good.

Liked a lot of this, hated some of it - never heard any of it!

the perfect tune for a foggy afternoon!

I'm sure this is a "MBV walked so [100 other bands I'd rather listen to] could run" situation but it's just constant ambient sound. I mostly like the sounds that are in there, I'll just never be able to get that excited about something so devoid of any hooks.

it's probably not a good sign that I forgot I was listening to this while I was actively listening to it. Wandered away and had to start it over again. this is in that real bad zone where it's not as relaxing as trance or as interesting as a band like Silversun Pickups replace this with Swoon, actually

I can’t get into this at all, i do like some stuff, but nowadays it’s just noise….

Not for me

me gustó mucho más que la primera vez que lo escuché (no me había gustado antes)

gran shoegaze, el unico que mg de la banda

First track is good but is kind of hard to hear, can’t really tell what it is, maybe the distortion on the guitar but there is something that makes the track really unintelligible. Second track has the same problem but now I’m realising that it could just be part of the charm. Ok yeah that’s the whole point of the album pretty much. Don’t think I like it, some of the songs are good though, and a little clearer. I can see the appeal but just not for me. This is really not the kind of thing I like, I much prefer a crystal clear mix where you can hear everything clearly and separately (not everything in one giant mixing bowl where it all gets lost and becomes a murky, disgusting, concoction). However a lot of the songs do capture that melancholy feeling that I think they were going for and quite well at that. If I was a depressed 16 year old girl I would probably love it. I have been listening to it at quite a loud volume which a lot of the reviews suggest, but I think it would sound a lot better to my ears at a low volume where the lead instruments and vocals can stick out a lot more and have that awful fuzzy guitar hide in the background. I would probably listen to this again in the future to see if my opinion changes and I would listen at a quieter volume because I think it would make a big odds. When You Sleep and Sometimes are the best songs mainly because you can hear what’s going on. The vocals and lead instruments/synths sound clear and you get a better impression that they are actually songs. Both of those songs capture the idea of this album while being pleasant to listen to. I think the distortion on the guitar of Sometimes sounds excellent and it fits into the mix quite well whilst still being loud and obnoxious, in a good way. When You Sleep is just a stronger song in general, especially in terms of the structure and sound of the music. This album might not be for me but I know a lot of people that would love it.

This album really reminded me of Smashing Pumpkins' GISH. And I dug it.

My ears feel like they’ve been in a Cornell University frat house. Too soon?

My Bloody Eardrums what the hell. I cannot think of a single circumstance or situation where I would want this bullshit playing.

one of the best albums of all time and one of my all time favorites

Malisimo!, sonidos raros, sin ritmo. No entiendo como llegan a estar en los mejores 1001 albumes

I have a mixed opinion and odd relationship with this record. Whenever I listen to the dreamlike woozy guitars I hear what I would these days attribute to a lo-fi recording - scratchy, grungy, discordant. But then I remember that back when this was made it was notorious for how expensive it's creation was and how meticulous the creator was in bringing this to life, which sits at odds with the lo-fi impression it leaves on me. These days I try not to fight it and don't attempt to understand Loveless - if you let it wash over you effortlessly it really starts to shine. Underneath the wash of overdubbed guitars the songwriting is really quite simple and I don't think it's intention ever was to over think anything.

An obvious classic, and probably the best shoegaze album out there. It's funny because the genre started and, in my opinion, sort of hit its artistic peak and exhausted its potential with this one album. Admittedly, the "raw" shoegaze genre has never been my favourite; it's a sort of one-trick pony that gets old really quick, especially as artists within that genre began focusing less on songwriting, and more on effects pedals. Shoegaze elements on other non-shoegaze albums, though, I'll always get behind, and for that I'll always have "Loveless" to thank. This album is pretty dope and has been praised to no end for good reason. It really feels like you're in this very claustrophobic and warm room being blasted by a 1000 guitar amps, with guitars that are being run through the most egregious feedback, reverb, and delay pedals you can find. It's suffocating in that sense, but the inherent beauty of the riffs and tones here is what differentiates this album from your average noise record. It's a record where you get lost in the blend of all its wailing, trebly, sparkly tones, and despite MBV really creating this genre, they're also the band that mastered it. Now I've never been one to dislike an album because of what it inspired, like hating Eminem for the shitty white lyrical-miracle rappers that came after him, but so many far less interesting bands tried to be MBV after this, and it never worked for me. I'd say the biggest reason is MBV doesn't prioritize typical songwriting, say for maybe songs like the insanely catchy and iconic 'When You Sleep' or the gorgeous 'Sometimes' with its low droning guitar feedback layered over what sounds like some very tasteful, but drowned out, acoustic strumming (maybe the most proto-Deathconsciousness song here, in the best way). Everything else here feels closer to ambient; it's sort of omnidirectional, and the song's structures aren't exactly conventional, with most other instruments, including the vocals, being drowned out by the guitars here. But MBV can get away with it for the most part because of how talented they are; like, re-listening to this, I was taken aback by just how beautiful it's capable of being, in the most unconventional ways. But EVEN HERE, the focus on dense guitar layers doesn't always work; as a result, I think the vocals are the weakest part of this album. They have their moment, like with the delicateness of 'Sometimes', but with a song like the opening 'Only Shallow' or 'What You Want', they might as well not be there. I honestly like 'To Here Knows When' because at least they go all the way with suffocating the vocals, rather than having them just hover there needlessly. It's another great track that could've inspired every cloud rap beat under the sun with its nostalgic synth-loop and pitch-drifting guitar tones that sound like tuning your radio to the most run-down and decrepit '80s music broadcasting station. It's these songs that are my favourites on this album, just absolute dream-like incoherence that really leaves you in awe. So I do ultimately have some mixed feelings about the vocals and general direction of this record, but it really is the peak of Shoegaze, and such a singular album. It's rare you find a genre that's really defined by one single album. But also, that can just be my ignorance...who knows.

Need to go back

talvez melhore futuramente

At moments I get it, at moments I get a headache.

No. Mi dispiace

Have listened to this one a few times before, but going into this, didn't really remember what it sounded like and only remembered that I did like listening to it. So pretty curious how this listen would go considering I was not big on m b v. If I remember right, m b v had the issue of being less noisy, too repetitive, and the songs being too long. None of those issues crop up on Loveless as it sticks more towards traditional alt-rock construction (But still spacey and not really verse chorus verse). But yeah, really loving this album. Definitely on a scale of dream pop to noisy shoegaze, this one slots more on the noisy side compared to a Cocteau Twins (dream pop) or slowdive (More in the middle, but still on the dream pop side). Just a vibes album all around, beautiful, and amazing.

5/5. There is a good reason why when any new shoegaze-adjascent album gets released, it is immediately compared to Loveless by My Bloody Valentine, and that’s because this album is just that good. To the point where it is and will likely always be THE shoegaze album. The intro “Only Shallow” is an immediate blast of power with a guitar so loud it could probably register as seismic activity and vocals that are beautiful and melodic yet buried under all the instrumentation which gives them a very ethereal quality. And the hits just keep on piling from there, my favorites being the two track run of “When you sleep” and “I only said” as well as “sometimes.” one of those albums that’s just an absolute marvel of production and soundscape from front to back, that makes you wanna buy 500 guitar pedals and try to make some weird crap yourself.

Man we just keep getting this band. I think this is the 3rd album generated (second in the past week). It’s just ok. Feels like it goes nowhere and lotsa fuzzy guitars

The only song I could get from this album on Spotify was “sometimes”. Thankfully that was all I needed or had to listen to.

Mileage with shoegaze varies for me, but MBV is very solidly in the "Like" column.

I've only heard m b v previous to this. I think I might like that one just a little bit more but this was still great. Sounds like audio sculpture. It's very easy to get lost in the ebb and flow of sonic texture constantly being created and destroyed.

I mean it’s fine, but reading about it before listening I was expecting something utterly different and brilliant, which to my ears it just isn’t. In parts it’s like The Cure but without the melodies, others like Jesus and Mary Chain but the guitar sounds aren’t as drenching. I can hear this has been influencial on later bands like The Smashing Pumpkins but for me it’s just OK.

Legendary record well deserving of it's status as one of the most important and influential guitar records

Making me very sleepy Listened and whole album felt like a dream, havent heard much like it for the time it was made and now im mad its off spotify 😓

Apparently they recorded lots of albums that were never released. Unfortunately they released this one.

Bunch of noise. Muffled. Blah.

Better than I expected. I like the gauzy, breathy sound, but I have to say that the music was a bit abrasive in ways that I didn't really enjoy. Not all the time, but enough that it would be difficult for me to recommend this album to anyone. It just made it sound a bit drone-y at times. Solid album, though, and based on the year, I'm sure it's massively influential in the shoe gaze genre.

I don’t really like Shoegaze. There are a couple of songs that stand out on this album, but the rest all merge together is an amorphous Shoegaze blob of music.

My Bloody Valentine and I haven’t exactly got on so far in this challenge. I found m b v absolutely miserable and gave it a 1, while Isn’t Anything was an improvement at 2, with a few genuinely good songs. Even then, I still struggled with their monotonous, droning wall of sound. So Loveless comes into today with a lot of work to do. I know this is the album they’re most famous for and is considered a classic, so I was interested to see whether this would finally be the one that made My Bloody Valentine click for me. Unfortunately, it absolutely wasn’t. This is definitely noise pop, with layers and layers of distorted guitars, but I just don’t enjoy the sound at all. There’s barely any recognisable singing, just vocals buried underneath everything that sound more like mumbles and moans. I know that’s part of their style, but I find it incredibly unpleasant to listen to. It also sounds very rooted in the early 90s to me and, personally, I don’t think it has aged particularly well. Everything blends into one big wall of noise with very little melody or anything for me to grab onto. I can appreciate that My Bloody Valentine have a distinctive sound and that plenty of people love this album, but after three albums I think I can safely say this band is just not for me. Favourite track: I couldn’t pick one. I thought this was awful. Least favourite track: Take your pick. I struggled with the entire album. Album artwork: Nothing particularly interesting to say about this one. Much like the music, it does very little for me.

Rate: 8/10. Bloody Valentine but no Jensen Ackles :(

I feel like this is what music would vibe most with heroin

Every time I listen to a MBV album, I get half a shoegaze shuffle of a nano-step closer to a sense of understanding. Perhaps someday I'll even just enjoy them unreservedly. At current rate of progress, barring accidents or serious illness, I'm on schedule to be enlightened to their greatness sometime around age 76.

I know that shoegaze gets talked about with an eye roll these days with so many acts taking a stab at it. I do think that DIIV, Just Mustard, Hotline TNT and Alvvays deserve a nod as far as current day acts who pull it off. When it is done well, it’s such a great sound and boy did MBV do it well, creating what could be argued as the very best of the genre. Respect to Slowdive, Cocteau Twins, Jesus and Mary Chain and Ride as well but in my mind, Loveless stands at the top. They masterfully balanced the haze, the sludge and the shimmering beauty. They made an album that at times sounds like they’re playing underwater and that sound when you get lost in the haze, the sludge, you float. What a closer Soon is, MBV throws that in at the end to show that shoegaze can be danceable as well. People will complain about the distortion, the wall of sound but that’s exactly what makes this so cool, the melodies that break through the wall of sound make it special and they pair so well. 5 stars

Pop rock songs dressed up in some incredibly creative noise. It leaves you feeling like you came back to your hometown and don't recognize it anymore because it has changed so much in the decade since you left. Brilliant 5/5... ...oh but the songs underneath are so painfully mediocre for the most part that I probably won't listen to this again.

Cool as hell.

Missä örinä?

Yeah not my thing. There were moments of this is ok but mostly it felt just painful noise to my ears.

There was only one song from this album available on Spotify. I listened to it and some other tracks and feel the same way about them now that I did in the 90’s. The music is just missing something for me.

i mean it's pretty self-evidently great. at least i'd think. but it has a 3.2 on here? i feel like it's pretty accessible for what it is? regardless, Loveless is a pretty big improvement on the already good Isn't Anything to me. it's immediately much larger. the intense feedback washes over me quite nicely. it works better than most shoegaze because it's fucking LOUD and also has genuinely well-written songs underneath all the feedback. when i first heard this, it seemed so overwhelming. nowadays i've been around the block and i'm struck by just how 1991 it sounds (in a good way). Soon especially sounds like the acid/madchester/baggy shit from the time. and it's basic but my favorite songs are Only Shallow and When You Sleep. deserves to be one of the 1001? duh

3.5 stars. To me, there's a fine line between bland, meaningless shoegaze and really good indie rock that you can get lost in. This album definitely belongs to the latter category for me - there are enough textures to keep me interested and some really unique sounds that immerse me. Reminds me of Bob Mould or Sunny Day Real Estate but with a bit less catchiness than either. It's not a standout album and I doubt it'll ever be a favorite, but I think it's a solid album to put on while working or trying to clear my head or just trying to get into a dazed, floaty headspace.

If you want clarity, drive, or any sense of separation between instruments, skip this album.

Own it (CD) - What is the best way to experience this album? I've listened to it in my car and through high quality headphones...The car sessions are most tolerable, but I don't think you get the best experience unless you hear all the nuance though headphones. BUT WOW - it wrecks your ears. I wish I had found this album in the 90s when it came out, but I went all in on grunge and if Walmart didn't carry the album - I couldn't really get my rural Idaho hands on it. Nevertheless, while I recognize the importance of this recording - especially now that we're going through a Shoegaze renaissance - it's not really something that I reach for on a repeat basis. It just demands so much from you as a listener - it's so dense and layered, but you have to dig through each layer deliberately since everything is compressed to the same molten lava level of intensity. Don't get me wrong, that opening track just absolutely crushes. It's soooo good. but my ears need a massage after a full listen of this album - some Brian Eno or Steve Reich to rinse off the fuzz. HIghlights - "Only Shallow", " When You Sleep", "Sometimes", "Soon". I'll still give it 5 stars - maybe specifically for that snare sound in the opener.

not available for streaming on Apple Music

It was terrible music for a headache today. The headache cleared and I listened in my car - tbf always loved "when you sleep" but hadn't heard much more. Interesting and probably leaning towards a 4. Then w/headphones and a glass of wine...

Ik vind het geluid van het album niet zo comfortabel om naar te luisteren. Veel ruis en ik hoor de stemmen amper.

Might be good if the mix wasn’t so awful. Just noise for the most part. 👎👎

Yeah, it's noisy. But I kind of like the noise and the songs are pretty good underneath it all.

Struggled to get into it - don’t really like the distortive sound that runs through many of the tracks - not my thing

Finally got around to listening to this because you can't listen to it on streaming in the US. Fuck the big streaming corps! This shit is a shoegaze masterpiece and one of the craziest listens ever. If you heard this in the 90s for the first time, you wouldn't know what to make of it. It was way ahead of its time and is definitely something you wish never ended. Its an endless trance of different noises and faint vocals that play as the melody to the music. Definitely one of the best and most inspirational albums ever.

I do appreciate the sounds they influence but didn't have a standout moment with this particular album. Respect that it was a very early iteration but not something I would listen to again

Whelp only one song on Spotify and I didn't have the chance to go elsewhere

Rarely can I say I'm truly in the mood for some shoegaze but this hit the spot decently well today. Can't say I'll listen to this super often (it's not on Spotify anyways, had to Youtube this one) but I had a decent time with it. 7/10

#12 The weirdest listening experience yet in this challenge. I didn't get the album at all on my first listen. The atrocious mixing, no bass and drowned out vocals. What is going on?? So I keep on listening to it and I'm slowly starting to understand the artistic (or autistic) choices made. It has something no other album has but right now I'm keeping it at 4 stars cause you should be able to recognize the true greatness of an album quickly.

really fired up about the distribution of this album's ratings

O ky 1 playable song, and its ok

do you ever read reviews of albums on here and think.... is it just me? am i the problem? people are explaining why they love this album and they're using words that make it sound like this is the kind of thing i'd love AND YET I JUST DON'T GET IT.

Trying to decide if this is really shit or awesome. It's sortof shoegaze rock. I don't know I guess I like the sound even thought I don't really want to listen to it again. 3/5

Absolute pinnacle of shoegazing. Let's all sleep like a pillow, Jesus yeah!!

Only shallow one of the best songs of the early 90s. The riff is relentless and the vocals melt into the guitars. The rest of the album doesn't match these heady heights and is a bit samey

So good. Always get them mixed up with My Chemical Romance—shame on me. Banger.

I have no idea what the lyrics were but this album was really mellow and I enjoyed it.

One of my personal favorite albums so super biased but relistening is always a treat Blown a wish is like the most beautiful, swoony romantic song ever

A couple songs of this, sure. An entire album? No. I can't.

Triple blind. I’m not really sure what to think about this one. The beats honestly rocked pretty hard, but the vocals were a bit milquetoast. Not sure what to make of it…

First time dabbling with shoegaze. I was surprised the songs were so upbeat. The lyrics and grunginess of the music made me think it was gonna be a lot of minor key, but they kept it happier

This isn't as good as their debut. Occasionally the layers and layers of dense guitar and high harmonies works but too often it's a dirge.

Ok I get the hype. That doesnt mean the hype is totally for me, but I get the hype. It is another deconstruction of rock conventions, rebuilding them through guitar pedals and effects. Not bad. It listens as a whole album very well too, front to back. That being said, sometimes some of the effects came through at a frequency which was very shrill and sometimes harsh on the ears. Ultimately, I also think I prefer these ultra-colorful, blissed-out textures in the form of “Heaven Or Las Vegas” by The Cocteau Twins. They compile it all into a more catchy format. 3/5 respectfully

not for me

Amongst the brutality and the harsh noise the album produces, there is a delicate beauty and a lingering hopefulness that absolutely blew me away. I am really impressed with how cohesive is sounds despite its heavy and loud production. Judge this one as a singular experience and not on its individual tracks.

Second time listening to this album, can see the influence but not a fan of the vocals.

Nothing really that exciting here

что-то не мое, хотя отдельные треки ничего

Though I know its a classic, I just really cant get into it. Totally not my thing

fuck yesssssssssss..... ive been waiting for this one. its such a good sound.... guitars stacked high with effects creating hazy walls of that good shoegazey texture with vocals drowning in the mix and solid beats to drive it all forwards. i loved this album when i first heard it over a deacde ago and i love it just as much now too, if not more. as with our last album this isn't really one where i can pick out individual tracks as favourites. the strength is consistent throughout and for music like this u gotta just let it wash over u and not worry about keeping track of stuff like track boundaries, yknow? its music to vibe the fuck out to. a perfect summer sound....... and a very easy 5 stars.

fav songs: only shallow when you sleep dense, hazy, quintessential, 70/100

This album took a good couple of years to really grow on me, but lately I have started to accept this as being truly one of the greatest albums ever made. The melodies and arrangements are dreamlike quite like nothing else, and the experience that causes you have have is honestly almost spiritual. I'm also actually quite a big fan of the completely unintelligible vocals, I think just having them there as another instrument in the ensemble works really well and makes it even more dreamlike, even if you can't understand a word. This is THE quintessential shoegaze album, and 35 years later it still couldn't sound any better.

the second release of beloved shoegaze group my bloody valentine, and a pretty ambitious one at that. production costs were through the roof, the band traveling to different studios, messing with different recording styles, and most notably guitar audio experiments; that bit specifically ended up getting a lot of praise from critics. unfortunately this would be their last record for a good bit; the band's current label ended up dropping them due to working difficulties. this album is a real trip. my bloody valentine always makes music that sounds like you're lost in a deep sleep, and this album is no exception... compared to other dreamy-sounding albums, all those other bands have full strange landscapes and shapes to accompany their dreamy tunes, but here it's just pure... foggy... sludge. it's very saturated. but you can't make anything out. you're walking in an infinite fog. there's no beginning or end. you're just in it. it's absolutely insane. i can see why a lot of music critics like it; there's just something about pressing play and immediately you're thrown into the dumpster. it's the muddiest music you'll ever hear in your life, you won't be able to tell when guitars start or finish. if you can handle a bit of constant noise for an hour or so, it's really good.

Что общего у шугейза с шугарингом? Тяжко, но сладко

OH yeah, its all coming together. this song has 3 of my favourite songs, and two of them are also probably the best songs of all time

better than I thought it might be. like a shared distant cousin of smashing pumpkins and sonic youth.

I was very pleased to see another My Bloody Valentine album on this list, as i enjoyed the last one very much, and this one was similarly well received by me. All of dreamy, slightly wobbly and bendy haunting synth is present on this album. There is a breathy and dream-like quality to the vocals. But in addition to that there are some really catchy indie style guitar riffs, like on "when you sleep". The main guitar hook is something straight out of a 90s sitcom theme. But when you compare that to "i only said". The latter almost sounds other worldly. The two songs sound like back and forth between a human trying to speak and alien language and an alien trying to speak back. As though "when you sleep" is a message from the human race and "i only said" is the alien reply. I enjoyed this album and it helped me find a new genre, "Dreampop". (4.000)

Not something I would generally listen to and I'm not sure if I'll listen again, but overall I kinda liked it.
