I'd never heard of this, so had absolutely no preconceptions, other than the cover, and that turned out to be a red herring.

I've not heard of this artist before, but what a tremendous find. American soul music isn't my natural go to, but it's hard to deny greatness when you hear it. A couple of tracks I recognised, so not all new to me.

The only Joni Mitchell I've heard before are the overplayed hits from the radio and numerous snippets used in TV ads.

This is really quite a decent offering and very much a surprise to my ears. I was always under the impression that TSAHB were proper dad rock, and to be fair there's an element of glam rock, which is to be expected for the time, however there's a smattering of very good tracks, 'The Faith Healer' is excellent. I've heard a smattering of these tracks before. The singles stand out, but the album is a good solid '70s rocker. I probably won't go back as there's too much music in the world and not enough minutes left.

So, I've got this, and for a while I used to wax lyrical about how Yes should be reverred in a godlike status. The musicianship and technical ability being demonstrated is pure prog. However, whilst I love the opener, 'Roundabout' and the production of the album as a whole. I find, as I've got older, it's all a tad arrogant and self-indulgent, and interludes between the main tracks are simply 'look-at-me' statements for each member of the band.
Punk needed to happen.

RHCP have made one good album and this isn't it.
The misogynistic overtone of the lyrics, and Kiedis generally being an unlikable individual make this an unrewarding listen.
Musically, in places, there's a decent noise being made, if a bit over-produced, but overall it's a bit '90s teenage lad centric.

It's really hard to put a lable on SFA, such is their diverse and experimental sound, this album being one of the most genre bending of their discography.

"incorporating pop, prog, punk, jungle, electronica, techno and death metal"
I've heard this album so many times; Wiki, there's no death metal!

I know this is meant to be a classic and indeed deserves it's place on this list, but I've always thought of Cream as being suitably catered for by owning a Greatest Hits compilation (which I do). The big tracks here, I am familiar with, and they are bangers, but some of the filling is typical of 60s output, and doesn't deserve to be on the same slab of vinyl.
